Dungeons & Dragons Poem - Published in 1984

I was doing a little research online and stumbled across this old poem. It was published in The English Journal way back in 1984.

Dungeons & Dragons (To Brion) - Jayne R. Smith
Lost in the world of is,
You wandered in the realms of might have been.
On your white horse you fought dragons,
Lurking in paper dungeons, with your paper sword.

When the dungeons deepened
And the pathways dimmed,
You grabbed a thin thread,
Held on, followed it to light,
It frayed, wore thin,
But you wove it into a sheer fabric
Through which you could safely see the world,
Function in it, survive-
But still clash with dragons.

Then you slashed the veil,
Leaped into the world khaki-clad.
The dragons became real;
Your sword was steel.
You flourished, deserted the dungeons,
Shot your white horse,
Rode into reality on your black motorcycle-

And really died.

Dungeons and Dragons (To Brion), Jayne R. Smith, The English Journal , Vol. 73, No. 5 (Sep., 1984), p. 84.
