LD, try another browser. Might work fine with Safari or Firefox. (assuming it's IE that's giving you a hard time)
I agree we need to revive the chat. Just go ahead and enter whenever you have the time and someone will most probably join you. I tried it last night and fairly soon managed to attract another member.  Unfortunately, I was a way for too long and he/she slipped out before I managed to say hi.

Hmm
I'm running vista and only had to disable the one on my browser, so I don't think the OS is your problem, I'd look in Norton.
Unless you activated some extra protection on Vista, it likes to try to make you turn those on.
