Traveller game interest?

I have been wanting to play a game of Traveller for a while (preferably the Mongoose edition but I'm open)... However I'm not interested in being the GM...

So I'm curious as to whether there is anyone interested in being a GM in a Traveller game, and if there are other people interested in playing?

I can honestly say I have never even heard so much as a whisper about this game.

What are we looking at here?

Bump

One of the things that I like about Traveller is that it is a game that can run settings from Stone-aged, right up to Ultra High Tech. The norm being somewhat more than modern aged technology... With FTL spaceships being available.

Is no one interested in playing or GMing a Traveller game?

Well...

I took a look at the rules of the book. I'd be interested in playing a game of it, but I don't think I could GM one, especially since I am already committed to my SW game. Before I say yes I will play, I'd like to know a little more about the game's setting and plot.

I am largely in the same boat, as unhelpful as that is.

If you would like I can post links to the expanded books that I have....

As for setting, most of it is made as you go. Though there are some premade maps and such... Whenever I've played I've just made up a number of worlds before play and put them on the sector map as they are found.

GMing

Okay... since my other (Duchy) game is currently on hiatus, and I really want to play a Traveller game I will be the GM (Unless there are other takers?)

So for those who have looked over the basic book and are interested in playing what are your thoughts?

Hmmm

I found the rules were interesting an character creation is certainly comprehensive, there is very little on history, background and setting. There is mention of a Third Imperium but nothing on what is does or means. Is it like Space Rome? Is it like the Federation?

I am playing two space opera in the form of Serenity RPG games. Looking fir a pilot in one of them too. If I had something to work with for traveller, I might be interested but I'd have to start somewhere.

I seen your post for a pilot, and am interested, but I don't know the rules, and don't know if I want to go to the trouble of learning a new gaming system...
Is the serenity system D20?

As for the third imperium... I can see if I can find more info... but most of the game is based on random generation of a sub sector.

I've done some looking and I cannot find the book about the imperium... so here are some links to random info that might fill in the blanks.

The Imperium

Here is a link to a lot of info about the imperium, especially the Traveller Atlas.

d20 - no

Serenity is not d20. It is the cortex system by Margaret Weis. I have the rules outlined in the QnA and with online games you really don't need to know the rules completely.

Looking through your links. Still looking for a concept to base a game around.

I'll look through the Q&A a little more. I didn't notice the game info

As for what to base a game on... what is any RP game based on
I've always been a fan of exploring the fringe but any adventure works.

Traveller

Traveller is sort of Pre-Serenity. It is what we had back in the good ole days of 2nd ed that passed for a Space Adventure Game. It was good, but I like the Serenity rule system better myself.

PJR - You should definitely look at joining the Serenity game, I am anxiously awaiting my turn to play in ROC. If you want to play Traveller, this is very similar I think.
