I wish I could find myself a group to game with, but lots of stuff going on. I think if I owned the books about what stats go with what type of character, I could play anything. That is why I depend on character generators to build my characters for me, because it tells me based on my roll what is the best solutions. I enjoy building characters, but don't know enough about the races to choose anything other than elf, even on online games I generally choose elf.

I'm sorry but I couldn't possibly live underground, it's so gloomy! I'd feel like I were a bear, in constant hibernation! It's also why I generally avoid drow as well...I usually choose the wild elf or something that lives in forest areas.

Humans do not belong in ficton, so I rarely ever play a human.

Now I'm tempted to make a Dwarven Prospector, adventuring to find a new mine for her people.

Although, what sort of class would that even be Needs appraise, but not exactly sure how the rest of the skill requirements manifest.

Located in Complete Adventurer, Dungeon Delver is a prestige class with Rogue as the most likely foundation. I'm looking for a Base Class.

On further thought, that actually might be the primary reason why rogues are common. When it comes to class skills, the Rogue has the widest range available to it, which makes it a strong candidate for people who like skills to reflect their character's background, as well as for minmax players.

Continuing further, that's probably the main reason why I seldom play a Fighter; they get so few skills, which makes it really difficult for a Fighter's sheet to reflect a character's background if it deviates at all from the standard 'military recruit' archetype. Or at least that's the feeling I've gotten.

I can certainly agree with the fighter's lack of skills, which honestly is a bit silly. They treat fighters as someone who has only done just fighting. Realistically they would have a lot more class skills.

As a male player who tends to play both make and female characters, there is a good reason I do not choose female fighters; they are limited in strength and that is the prime fighter attribute. I have played several female rangers and spell casters. I did play a female fighter once but that was with a DM that gave me a bonus to initiative rolls in the first round of combat as no "girl" would be a fighter (she used light armor, well concealed). I find female can come in handy for thieves as well; especially if you have a high charisma.

Why do Female fighters have to have less strength? Is that a 2e rule I don't know about cause there's no such distinction in 3.5. Besides a dex fighter is ever bit as effective as a str fighter.

I must be missing a rule from somewhere because women don't take strength penalties.

There is no gendered bias in D&D over any of the prime attributes or any classes.

In real life we can, of course, say that the average man is stronger than the average woman. But, adventurers are (by definition) not the average. You only need to check out some of the Olympic events to see some uber-strong women that would easily have a strength of 18 (or more).


EDIT: That's applying to Humans of course. I imagine the typical Dwarven women are as muscly as their male counterparts (it's the beards...)...
