ask...
Directly due to Grugg's request, I have added a javascript to validate your draft preferences. If you give a non-integrer value, or give totals that don't add up correctly, the form lets you know and makes you fix it before you submit.
Of course, my backend checks are still there for those who decide to disable javascript in an attempt to break the site.

calling all Gruggs!
I have fixed the faulty draft logic that allowed for a lopsided number of pithcers/position players (depending on how badly you weighted the preferences).
Can you try to break this again? I'll run some more test drafts, but I think that I have it.

big changes
I have instituted full minor leagues - not just one team, but three level of minors, to closer approximate a real organization.
Of course, this slows down the player creation/draft process... running a draft used to take less than two minutes. It now takes better than six. (not that this matters to anyone)
I'm still tinkering a bit with how player ratings are calculated. I've also added a variety of player progression curves... so no two players will progress the same way. while most will follow a more linear progression path, some will be busts, some will be gems, some will be late bloomers, etc.
I have the system automatically assigning pitchers to roles (first starter, second starter, closer, etc), though you can edit these as you choose. I will soon have it auto-populating the depth chart and lineups, as well.

Seems fun.
I'm new to this site and I've never seen this kind of SIM game before. It seems like a good idea and from the posts of others it seems to appeal to a lot of people. I know a lot of people love baseball and naturally because of that would love this game but this goes beyond my expectations. The teams and everything are neatly set up with the pictures, colors and fonts and it looks like a nifty little thing. I'd love to see how this turns out in the end.

update
I have now set up a routine that, at the end of the draft, has the system go and create lineups for each level or your organization (for both righty and lefty pitchers).
Basically, the system tries to decide who the best overall player on your roster is for each position, accounting for whether the lineup is against a righty or lefty pitcher. Now that it has filled the positions, it then uses tried and true baseball wisdom to set the lineup (fast, contact hitter in the leadoff role, best hitter on the team bats third, best pure power guy bats fourth, etc).
While you are certainly free to edit these as you wish, it should be nice to have some sort of default to fall back on.
