versions
We are 3.0/3.5 players. We've got a plethora of books from that version ~ it works well for us. ^_^
Though rules are little looser for us; I'm not a huge stickler, and thankfully, neither are my players.

It's the way to be
If you ever feel inclined, d20pfsrd.com has pretty much all the rules for Paizo Publishing's Pathfinder. Its sometimes referred to as 3.75 because it simplifies some rules while buffing up PC classes so that they all have a druid/ranger/monk/paladin feel. The downside is that Prestige Classes become pretty obsolete.
The thing that I personally like more about Pathfinder is that it really focuses on making the campaign world (Golarion) a thriving and interesting place - i did not get that so much with D&D products.
Anyways, its just something to look at for fun, as 3.5 is also really awesome!
I will keep an eye out on the comic from now on.

light source
No one thinks about the light source. just the other day, the cavalier in the party, the only one without darkvision, had a con't light put on a amulet and wore it around his neck. As a DM I said, you realize you are hanging a bright and shiny target around you neck? Yeah, it is only 60 feet was the answer.
Ummm for you to see yes. For the drow archers....

heheh, even worse
Try when the party cleric casts inflict serious wounds against a boss and critical fails the range touch attack, followed by rolling near max damage.
The poor character in melee with the boss never stood a chance.
and, since I forgot to add it (sorry), thanks for the comic Celeste!

Ouch T_O! Yeah, that character didn't stand a chance!
Curse you critical fails! I found the best random percentage fumble chart to use though.... makes my life alot easier then just making up fumbles to happen.
