hmm

Is there anyway to tag links so that they have a coloured dot before them (or maybe a coloured link) that gives the general family or genus that the topic belongs to (Q/A vs Recruitment; General vs. Creativity)?

Perhaps

Another option would be to add a field for a short form of a thread title so that the user could control what pops up for their thread.

That way I could have CWWLLO as the short form for Continuing Where We Last Left Off.

good suggestions, all!

I will implement a "short title" option, as well as some sort of color-code for denoting which forum threads belong to.

but

Wouldn't it be easier to make the 5 last topics into a list, instead of 2 columns. If you make the font a little smaller I think it would work. That way, longer titles remain visible, and it becomes extra clear which topic was last updated.

well...

I originally tried it as a list, even with a tiny font, it just doesn't look too good.

short topic names...

...are a reality. Use your long name, fine. But you can now provide a short name for use in the "Last five Updated" list.

This field is visible on the "new topic" page - and if you leave it blank, it just uses the existing message subject.

For existing topics, site staff can edit these (as they always have been able to), and the general public may edit their own threads (i.e. topics they have started) by going to the bottom of the page and clicking the "Edit Topic" link.

Coolness

Very cool, very cool. What, might I ask, is the color code?

I'm still making images, so I will post the colors when they are decided.

nice feedback...

Thanks for the input, folks.

The color code is visible on the main forum page, as well as on a given forum (general, rules-based RPG, free form, etc) page - note the colored dots beside each category name.

oh, yes...

...and just for coolness' sake, if you hover your mouse over the colored dot beside a shortened title name in the header, you'll see the entire title name.

It's the little touches...

Just making sure Im not going colorblind.

All the rules based are one color, all the free form are one color and all the off topic are one color, while the general are all different. Thats correct right, Im not just losing it...
