Subject: Happy *Facelick* Birthday!

So the word on the street is a certain beloved slobbery staff member was born this day some odd years ago. (Emphasis on odd for him.)

Since I'm on and most everyone else isn't, I'm stealing the privilege of making a thread reminding you all.

So a round of the good stuff, extra froth and extra slosh for for our Dearest Eol Fefalas!

In honor of the occasion I'll be passing out special super soft, eco-friendly, non-conflict, politically correct, hypo-allergenic, Mac and PC compatible monogrammed towels. Neat single file line please.

Laughing at dwarf women crushing windpipes sounds like dangerous business, Tann.

I bet the remains of the man who told the female dwarf she wasn't as strong as the males would attest that she is indeed equal in physical prowess... if she hadn't you know... crushed his windpipe...

When others stepped up to help out Salene did her best to melt back into the shadows. She hated being the center of attention and was very glad that it didn't stay on her for long. She watched the confrontation between the Khord and the woman with growing anxiety about their mission. She applied herself to finishing off her tankard, not wanting to draw attention to herself again by adding her opinion to the debate.

As she looked over her intended companions the half-elf couldn't help but wish she was cowardly enough to have remained silent. Throwing her lot in with total strangers was risky at best. She hadn't traveled with anyone since she left Coria and wasn't sure now was a good time to start doing so. Still to think of that poor child in the hands of the monster that took her... or the people who would send a monster to take a little girl. She shuddered and pulled her cloak closer around her.

Salene waited until the others had taken themselves to bed before she decided to go look around a bit. She slipped from the tavern to go prowl the town. Deciding that it would be in very bad taste to take anything from these people after they had offered so much to help, she simply went for a walk, careful to avoid anyone who may be wandering the streets this time of night.

The silence of the town bothered her, very much used to the constant hustle and bustle of Calestra, and out of old habit she takled to herself softly, her inward thoughts escaping her lips. “Horses... I've never ridden a horse before... Only really seen a handful.” Her eyes scanned the darkness at the edge of the town and she found a little corner to sit in, leaning against a wall as she peered into the darkness, wondering what madness waited for them out there. “Drannon is such a strange place... well I suppose anywhere is strange when you're used to one place. At least I'll get a chance to see more of the country.”

When she felt her eyelids beginning to droop she would make her way back to the inn and go to her room, locking the door before settling in to sleep for the rest of the night.

When morning came the half-elf dragged herself from the bed and gathered her pack, wondering how long she would be able to travel with these people without feeling the urge to run her own way. She shook her head. “I will see this through. That child needs us... and if not her than the others that monster might take.”

With that she made her way down to the common area. She retreated back to her corner to wait for the others to assemble.

I must be missing a rule from somewhere because women don't take strength penalties.

I can certainly agree with the fighter's lack of skills, which honestly is a bit silly. They treat fighters as someone who has only done just fighting. Realistically they would have a lot more class skills.

We could just find a race of oopa loompa like creatures and enslave... I mean hire one of them. They have to sit on here all the time lurking. We give them a cell phone with unlimited texting and they text us every time something is posted. We'd only have to pay for the cell phone.

I've been debating if I really wanted to weigh in on this but I am an opinionated person and new or not, it's a matter I have some experience in.

I've been a mod on a small forum site. It's not fun. Nothing feels good about censoring things that you honestly agree with on a personal level. However, in the interests of keeping the peace it has to be done.

Just because something sounds one way to you doesn't mean it does to another person. In a forum situation like this we may have deep bonds but when it comes down to it, we're just words on a screen. Without any sort of body language or inflection to assist us in puzzling out the tone people are using when saying something it's easy for an offhand rant or teasing comment to come across as a deeply offensive attack when people can't see your face. Sure you may be grinning as you write about how much you hate doing this or that but the next person who comes along only sees what's typed in. It's very easy to take something that was said jokingly seriously and something that was said seriously as jest.

In short, read over things you say. Let someone else read over it if you're not sure. Actually if you're not sure if you sound like a jerk, maybe you should rewrite or just scrap the whole thing.

And don't take it personally if the mods take down something you say. This is home to a lot of people and they're just protecting that, as is their duty. I've seen sites torn apart because their mods just don't care enough to watch the forums. Small comments can break users up into little factions and a place that used to have a family like, occasional squabbling atmosphere turned into an all out war zone. It's partially for your protection as well. It's easy to get your feelings hurt when you post something only to have someone come along and jump down your throat because you didn't realize how offensive you sounded. The mods do these things because they love this place and want to preserve it for us.

Anyway, I'll stop with that.

Topic: Brewing my own beer...
Subject: Informative :3

Well the first obstacle in my quest is I actually live in a dry county so I have to go quite a ways to obtain any alcohol, let alone good alcohol. Most of the places that sell beer around here are County line "Last chance" sort of places that sell mostly rotgut hard liquor and "barley pop" as my dad used to not fondly call weak beer.

I'm sure I could find some if I traveled to Little Rock however. I'll take what you said to heart and when I get some time and disposable income maybe I'll go on a sophisticated beer run.

Beer was not a topic I expected to find myself researching at any time. Just sayin.

Topic: Brewing my own beer...
Subject: Curious

Well now I really wanna know how it compares. May have to see if anyone around here home brews and see if I can't get my paws on some.

So My first call to a friend who I figured would know these things led me to moonshine... this could be a long quest.

I think brewing your own is really more of a just like the flavor sort of thing than a really like to drink thing. That's an awful long and complicated process for something you can shell out some money for at the store if you just wanted a drink.

The lot of you!

With that said, I've only ever tasted cheap commercial beer and am curious if the home brewed stuff would suit me better.
