Topic: RDINN Quilt? Would you contribute?
Subject: Yes bigger

Like do it with a larger panel in the middle and then do the other arranged around it.

Lemme find an example.

http://www.quiltguildofgkc.org/Opportunity%20Quilt%20011.JPG

Okay, ignore the fact that this is rabbits and imagine the big picture in the middle as the Inn logo and the weird... ball arrow things as "Inn staples" like... Don't Feed Grugg and Facelicks from Eol Maybe even a tribute to each staff member. Then the outer rabbit blocks as the room scenes you had suggested or something more Innmate/game oriented.

May do them larger so I could do more detail and I think it'd be cooler with A double sized block in the middle with the Inn's logo then a circle of Inn "staples" around it.

The half-orc looked over the group, grunting his disapproval frequently. He stopped before each one, his yellowed eyes dragging over every detail, searching for out of place gear or weakness. He glared up at Aleya for a moment and made a disgusted sound, shaking his blocky head. She met his eyes, a vicious smile spreading on her full lips, and shrugged. “I know they're raw recruits not the elite team you requested, Paagdish, but they will serve nicely.”

She turned back to the group then, taking a moment to decide how she wanted to answer the hob-goblin's question and chuckling at the Jaebrin's response. “I need Maple Ridge. I need the town, resources as intact as possible with little or no innocent death. Do not punish anyone for the crimes their parents have committed.” Her voice turned icy and hard as steel, violence flashing in her eyes. “Should a child be intentionally felled by your hand I myself will ensure you never make the mistake again. If you wish to kill without reason you should leave now.”

She paused long enough to make sure none of them were stupid enough to move. “Maple Ridge is a two day walk to the North. If you need any supplies that have not been given to you Belja's Nook, in the east, is a neutral trading camp. Don't start trouble there. I trust in your abilities to find your own means of paying.” She thought for a moment and then slid a hard leather case containing a map of the country from her saddle and held it out. “You'll have to decide amongst yourselves the best route to Maple Ridge as well as the method you plan to use to secure the town. Don't let me down.” She watched a rider approaching and frowned, momentarily distracted from the group.

The rider, obviously a warrior judging by his gleaming silver plate mail and the multiple weapons on both his person and attached to the saddle. Paagdish growled deeply in his throat but Aleya remained calm and unmoving, watching as the man slid from the saddle. He had sharp golden eyes that traversed the recruits, a scoundrel's grin on his lips the whole time, and black hair that was clipped short in a common military style. “You're needed back, Aleya.” His voice was musical and even when addressing the fearsome woman it held a playful mirth. “Bonestaff's orders.” He fell silent for a moment, his eyes falling on Triana. “Aleya, do you have a sister you never told me about?” He approached the half-drow girl, bowing deeply. “The paladin Tyrael, at your service, beautiful.”

(I know the map's a bit rough but you get the idea. The dark green around Oakcross is a forest that I can't think up a name for.)

Subject: I knew you'd be in on it Eol

Just so long as it's a simple OUTLINE line drawing. Whatever you come up with will be perfect I'm sure.

It has to be something that the color of the "lines" can convey the color of the whole, as there won't be any fill. Like these.

http://iamsusie.blogspot.com/2007/10/tea-towel-embroidery.html

I'd like something about facelicks on there as well since that's a Inn essential.

I'd just need an outline drawing. I do line embroidery, not machine picture embroidery. Actually doing some pillow cases would be good practice for quilt time...

I can't just make a batch of them. You're talking about a year of work per quilt. XD Maybe if you're good I'd embroider a pillowcase with the RDINN logo for you.

If I go telling you that I had better make a trip to Hobby Lobby... I have a feeling I won't get away with just one.

Subject: Love the ideas...

But you far overestimate my meager abilities. I was thinking VERY simple designs. I'm not sure I could pull it off as either idea. Plus, the squares are only 7 inches. I would have to embroider VERY little to do people and combat scenes and such. I really wish I could. If this one goes well and I don't stab my fingers to catmeat doing this one I may try something more complex in the future. And I'd really love to have more of a...The best part of RDINN for each artist (or one artist several times if I can't con I mean... entice enough into it)

And I do think you're right that Giving the quilt to t_catt would really be the best option.

Subject: RDINN Quilt? Would you contribute?

So I am a crafty individual. For a long time I've been wanting to hand embroider a quilt but can never find any patterns that catch my eye. Since I would be spending probably a year of my life bent over a hoop with needle in hand and possibly bleed over this, I'd like it to be something that I really care about.

Problem is I don't really care about much. Nothing that could translate into a quilt.

Then I stumbled into the Inn. When I log in and it says "You are here: Home" it doesn't just mean home page to me. Yeah I know I'm still new... but I honestly feel like I belong here. Anyway, sappiness aside, I have a query to put to you, Innmates. Would you like to help me make a quilt? All I require from you guys is artistic input, that is... the embroidery designs. I'd need twenty game or RDINN oriented simple embroiderable designs. They would essentially be little more than line drawings. They would have to be able to translate into 7" square blocks, but I would hand embroider them all and sew them into a quilt. I have no idea what I would do with the quilt when I finished. Maybe give it to a lucky Innmate.

Anyway, this is just an idea. If I can't get a few people willing to help with designs I'll just disregard, but I'd love it if I could get enough people interested.

Edit: Actually I'd only need 19 designs. Jozan has rightfully said that if I make a RDINN quilt the middle square is simply required to be the RDINN symbol. I just have to pull off embroidering it. XD

Topic: What the Inn means to me.
Subject: .

Several years back I lost the love of my life. Her name was Jessica and we started dating despite her having pretty advanced breast cancer. I got her into DnD because it was something she could do in bed on the days she felt the worst. It was her only social interaction outside of her family, the people at the doctor's office and me. Toward the end it was also the only way she had to escape thinking about her impending death. She told me once that while she was being Kriea, she wasn't a young woman with cancer, she was a gorgeous elf that wasn't going to die for centuries. After Jessica died I stopped living for a long time. The world went on around me but I didn't. I dropped out of school and moved in with family because I had tried suicide once and they were afraid I would try again if left alone... and they were probably right. I hadn't even considered gaming again until someone found my player's handbook by chance in my closet and said they had been interested in playing but never got the chance. I had a lot of mixed feelings, the most prevalent terror. I had no idea if I would be able to, would the game still be tolerable for me, let alone actually fun? Could I possibly bring myself to come up with stories knowing the last time I had seen Jessica I had wasted it playing a stupid game instead of just holding her and telling her I loved her the whole time? Then I came on here and thank the gods that I did. I may joke a lot but it's still sometimes really hard for me to even open my player's handbook because for a while I held some pretty deep resentment towards the game for so long. The joy the Innmates got out of the game reminded me of just how much Jessica had loved it and how much it had honestly helped her in her worst hours. I'm not going to say I'll ever be able to see gaming again in quite the same light, but I can say the Inn's been a healing place for me. I've really opened up to some of the people on here and I really feel more like myself before I lost her than ever. I thought when I stopped playing the last time I was closing a chapter in my life and little did I realize how much I honestly needed it.

Thank you guys for giving me a chance to be someone else, a lot of other someones. Thank you guys for welcoming me with open arms and not treating me badly for being new to the game(again). Thank you for a home when I've been wandering lost.
