Topic: The Lost Mine of Phandelver Q&A Subject: Map of the Northern Sword Coast
You can see the map is divided into hexes, each 5 miles across. The road leading north from Neverwinter eventually leads to the city of Luskan.

Topic: The Lost Mine of Phandelver Q&A Subject: The Lost Mine of Phandelver Q&A
This is just a placeholder for an upcoming game I'm running. Trying to mimic the other couple of Q &A threads I checked out.
DM: Lano
Players:
Padre
Schnozzle
Nomad D2
Chessicfayth
Norm
Universe: Forgotten Realms
Default Story Hook: You are in the city of Neverwinter when a dwarf (possibly a friend or distant relative), Gundren Rockseeker, hires you to escort a wagon to Phandalin, a frontier town that sits against the Sword Mountains. Gundren has gone ahead with an old warrior, Sildar Hallwinter, to attend to some business in town while you follow with the supplies. You will be paid 10 gold pieces each by the owner of Barthen's Provisions in Phandalin when you deliver the wagon safely to the trading post.

Topic: So, You're New Here. . .Awesome! Read this. Subject: New Avatars
When we suggest an avatar, does it have to be an original work, or can we google something and put it there?
My preference is a stock photo of a cartoon or real life komodo dragon. But I have a feeling that'll be rejected by the admins.

Topic: Let's play edition 5 Subject: Progress
I'm at 3 (or 2 and a half) character sheets of 5 at this point.
AFter everyone has theirs ready, I think I'm going to post everyones here (via pdf sharing links). This is because I might take everyone's and just redo them (not changing anything, just having my own notations and such). Just as a final "that's all good, right?"
Some of you may wish to keep your character sheets secret, and if that's the case, let me know.
Edit: via PM
Double edit: Actually, more like 4/3 and a half (I can't count)

What sort of formatting tricks is there on here? Is it just a matter of knowing html?
Like, I'm wondering how I can hide text or post hidden info. If there's an easy way to do that, or if I just need to google how to html it.

Topic: Let's play edition 5 Subject: On character attributes
Your suggestion is noted.
This is my first time DMing. So...I just want to see how it goes. To counter the point, I don't see Schnozzle's character, for example, being outpaced, since he's the only one who can use magic (so far). I think that's where having diversity in people's classes comes in handy. It makes sense that the fighters have high stats - wizards and rogues don't need to be that strong.
If you're using the point array, it's very easy to manipulate your attribute scores by what race your pick, so as long as you have the points where they count, I think it should even out.

I was just thinking that I don't think we have anyone with a bow.
Edit: padre actually DOES have a light crossbow, at least according to the character sheet i have access to.

My experience with DnD is two custom versions of the game, and in neither of them did we have a full-time cleric.
You're probably right on the arcane spell caster thing, my familiarity with the spells is very low.

Topic: Let's play edition 5 Subject: healing
Having a "white mage" is always a good thing, but it's not absolutely necessary. And other classes, like a rogue, can be just as important. The game is pretty balanced that way.
You don't have to be a cleric to be a healer, paladins make decent healers too. And I'd be surprised if none of the mage-proper classes (like druids, wizards, sorcerers) don't have healing abilities, though I don't know of any healing spells of the top of my head.
Also, you don't have to be a magic user to heal, healing potions and other medicines can be available (and healing is a possible skill proficiency).

Topic: Let's play edition 5 Subject: Norm's question
the thing with half elves and half orcs (and dragon born and gnomes) is that the handbook specifically says that they are "uncommon" races.
Like, if you're a half-orc, especially a barbarian one, you're probably not going to be allowed in bars, or if you are, people are going to shuffle out as you walk in. Orcs just have a really bad reputation, and most people who see you are going to make assumptions about you.
Half elves can get along more easily, so I guess that makes sense.
If you REALLY want to be an uncommon race, I guess why not, though.
