Map

a question about the map - it looks like nobody is near Daxos other than his allies and a corpse. But I thought someone took a swing at him. Is he further away because after the attack he moved backwards? That swordsman will be his target regardless.

...

Well it has been one heck of a weekend. Company every day, going out and enjoying myself like some kind of heathen. It has been madness. I apologise for leaving you guys hanging with no answers for the past few days.

Nomad, I see now that I didnt move the swordsman on the map as I described in the post. I've updated the map above to reflect the correct position.

Looking forward everyone's next post!

*fades in*

Not much from me this round. Hopefully this turn we can wrap combat and get back to it.

Which Axeman?

Impluse, which ax totting fool are you trying to barbecue? I've got the one outside the boat wrapped up in a swarm which I was going to maintain. The fire might disrupt the swarm - which would mean I need to decide on another lovely friend to introduce myself to

ah mb

If it disturbs the swarm I might not bother with it and I'll just try to save Clary then, thanks for pointing that out

Edit: I might target that lone green dot then? You got the spell caster and her lover right?

Let's talk about combat.

I would like to talk to you all about some ways to spice things up or just make it more engaging. Silent and I talked about a few options. Here are those and a few more:

** We could have fewer combat encounters in general - that's something that you all can help manage. I will definitely be throwing more bad people your way, but they don't all have to end in violence.

** I could make combat deadlier. Say, everything has half HP.

** The encounters you run into could be small groups or single-creature fights. This doesn't play well IRL, but would probably do better in PBP.

** We could do combat in chat. Now I really like this idea, but I realize it's difficult to get everyone onto a single schedule to be in one place at the same time. If we only do one chat combat every 3 months that would be fine too.

** I am open to ideas here.

Combat

I really don't have a problem with how combat works. This is how it seems to go in all of the other games I have seen. It is the nature of a posting game. A little speeding up where it can easily be done and the results are obvious is fine.

The chat option is a nice one, although as you said the timing is hard. I get on this site almost every day. But that is not the same as saying that I can manage a specific time. However, I suspect that most of the time I could manage something. Or, as a rogue, a general sense of "I will stay back and shoot arrows at this type of target," could be given if I was the only one not able to be there.

As for the amount of combat, I think it is best to just see how the game plays out. Combat is a fun part of the game, but not the only part, especially as we try to get used to a new world. I'm glad you said that not all contacts with bad guys have to end in a fight. That is something we can keep in mind for future encounters. But there has to be some hint of that from the other side as well. Daxos does not like the idea of killing off all of the remaining people in this world. Silly, peace-loving rogue. It is in the nature of the class, right?

Combat

I think combat went fine, it's just the nature of the interface.

Trying to do this is chat sounds like a good idea in theory, but I know that I won't be able to commit to that. In other games I've played in, DM's have asked players to post actions in the Q&A for combat. This speeds things up quite a bit, but does inhibit combat RP on the player side. I've seen it work quite well though.

I'm absolutely interested in a game with less combat and more role play, stealth, manipulation, etc. That's more my style. Having encounters with smaller groups of enemies might do well to speed things along too, but I'm also interested in just seeing how the world grows around us.

Q for the GM

Is there any chance to save the female spellcaster?
What about the cleric they killed?
