DM EDIT: Mr Aryn had this past Monday a baby Girl so please wish him good tidings. He will be gone from us till sometime next month so Alasdair for the moment is an NPC that will be run by me.

Ok I seem to have lost Internet at my home so I'm presently at the library . (They only give you an hour's time online now ) I have been told that I should have it back by tommorrow morning but you never know with AT&T. So if there is no new Trilogy post by my tommorrow night late thats the reason.

Ok finally got my Internet back this morning so this week’s DM post is up. My next post will once again be next Sunday baring any Internet mishaps .

Also to Keeper all I can say about my Cowboys is they went a hell of a lot further then your poor Pittsburgh Steelers.

Its thier time as the Saints were my next pick to reach the Super Bowl if the Cowboys faltered as they did.

There has been a friendly difference of interpretation between myself and Kyle in the nature of Haila's Detect Evil spell, though it has no bearing on that posted by me or his upcoming post this week we still wish to get each of your interpretations on just how the spell actually works, as far the spell's listed description. The spell is below.

Casting Time: 2

Area of Effect: 10 x 180 ft.
Saving Throw: None

This spell discovers emanations of evil (or of good in the case of the reverse spell) from any creature, object, or area. Character alignment is not revealed under most circumstances: Characters who are strongly aligned, do not stray from their faith, and who are at least 9th level might radiate good or evil if they are intent upon appropriate actions. Powerful monsters, such as ki-rin, send forth emanations of evil or good, even if polymorphed. Aligned undead radiate evil, for it is this power and negative force that enables them to continue existing. An evilly cursed object or unholy water radiates evil, but a hidden trap or an unintelligent viper does not. The degree of evil (faint, moderate, strong, overwhelming) can be noted. Note that priests have a more powerful version of this spell.

The spell has a path of detection 10 feet wide and 60 yards long in the direction in which the wizard is facing. The wizard must concentrate--stop, have quiet, and intently seek to detect the aura--for at least one round to receive a reading.

My take is that the caster only gets a "sense" of evil (or goodness) as well as the degree. It is not a "glow" that others can see more of a "sixth sense" type thing.

It would be up to the caster to divulge or not any info gleaned by this spell.

So in this case the caster would have noted an evil object of some degree in the backpack. Unless they say somethign no one else would know about it.

Not the way you traditionally play the spell I know but it is how I play it if I DM.

When I DM I use the same type of detection as Keeper mentioned... no glow.. just a sense that the caster feels... stronger based on the nature of the evil..

I wasnt sure when you posted a glow so if you notice Kenji didnt react to the glow but to Cor's actions..

But I have always noted that the books are 'More like guidelines than actual rules'

To each DM their own styles. Basically it is up to the DM on how he wants anything to work or not.

Added note: If you go with the 'none glow' detection then Haila's spell might lead her to believe that Maggot is evil.. this could cause further problems than if it was just an item on said person. Just my 2 cents
