Got some new glasses. These are the first prescription glasses I've worn in over 15 years. They look good on me. I love the way gold metal frames look.

There's only one problem. I'm nearsighted and when I wear the glasses I loose the first foot of sight in front of me.
Now its like my sight is reversed. Everything within a foot of my face is blurred, but I see really well far away now.

Congrats on glasses - I know the difference they can make.

May I suggest that it sounds like you could use bifocals?

Hehe, as a guy who's about to never need glasses again (laser surgery next thursday) may I say at least you have glasses that look half decent.

He shoudn't get anything he doesn't want.

I've worn glasses for most of my life and have had numerous new perscriptions.

Whenever you get a new perscription the world does go funny for a short wile but it's nothing to be worried about as the world settles down to normal, in my experiance at least. I think it's something to do with your brain having to adapt to the new perscription, it essential is seeing the world in a different way and it has to work out how best to interprit it.

From my understanding:

Your brain has the amazing ability to work with almost nothing. It can take a blurry muddled mess and make sense of it. Over time this causes your brain to rebel, creating eye strain, exhaustion, migraines, depression or anxiety, etc.

Glasses basically fix whatever problem your lens has that's forcing the brain to work overtime. The brain takes a few days to adjust to working at a lower capacity and then you are functioning optimally again.

I'm on my second pair in about 6 years. Going again in a few months to get them adjusted again. I can't drive very well without them anymore.

I've had bi-focal for while. But I'm far sighted and my vision keeps pushing away. I got blended lenses the last time. I found that they give one spot of focus and I have to move my head to keep things in focus. I used to do fine detail work like engraving, but not anymore. I had a wide field of vision so it makes me nuts to have just one spot.
