Long time listener, first time caller

Greetings folks. I've been lurking on this site for a while, having found it while looking for some DM resources and taking a liking to "Loaded Dice". I've been gaming since about 1996 when I first picked up Shadowrun. D&D was soon to follow (2nd ed) and I've pretty much been with it ever since. I did play WoW for a while (Imiani was my main), but have been clean for over a year now!

Finally decided to sign up and say hello.

Welcome to the Inn

So if you've been lurking; then you know what's coming, heh, heh, heh.
So when you're dried off stop in to the DraonChat Chat room for a chance for some instant insanity.
All newbies get a free frosty mug of "Good Old Froth-n-Slosh" from the Chatroom bar. If I'm not there to serve you just pull one from the keg at the end of the bar. BTW if you're the first one in it's usually works best if you open a new chat room without a pass word. There are sometime technical difficulties with getting booted on the standard chatroom.

So let the fun begin and welcome oh great newbie Innmate.

Welcome

Congratulations on being clean.

I could come out now and say Hi, My Name is Eric, and I'm a WoW player...

However, in spite of my best friend and brother and my Wife pestering me, I make sure I'm done with other, more important stuff before I sit down and get mindless with WoW. That's the reason I only have 1 level 80 to date.

Anyway, welcome from one newbie inmate to another.

.

And you guys can quit any time you want, right? I know I was like an addict. I'd quit, go through withdrawl after a couple months and re-up. Getting my account hacked, getting it back, and then re-hacked and my account then getting frozen pretty much finished me off. :-/

Thanks for the welcomes.

But Wait, there's more!

Welcome and Well Met, Imiani!

You didn't think we were finished, right? Why, I don't believe you've been FaceLicked yet (psst! Here's a towel!).

I offer you my customary gifts of flowers and spiced mead! Enjoy your stay, new Innmate. Please vote for the Inn each day at the home page and check out our webcomics, Old Wizard and Loaded Dice! Any questions--I'm just a PM away.

Question

I am curious about the applaud/smite thing. Mostly, I'm wondering what is considered smite worthy as it seems like several folks seem to have fairly high smote counts. Is that just because they've been around long enough that they've acquired that many or is it more of a joke thing?

*Edit: It would seem that I've picked one up already. I'm not entirely sure what I would have done to get it. Confused, I am.

To Smite or not to Smite.......

Well so far my smites have come as more of humorous response to my Puns. I've now even received a honorary title for my Puns.

Although I agree that if Smote it should have some kind of explanation, such as -1 for bad joke. If you smite be visible and up front. and I would say if someone already received a smite for a joke then one is enough.

If a smite were a violation of the terms of service then you would also get a PM from a staff member.

Applauds are given anytime a person likes something that was posted.

You can only give one smite or applaud per thread. (I've been smited twice for a pun but they had to find me on another thread to do the second. )

Noted

Well, in that case I'll just chalk it up to randomness as I can't find a reason. In my mind I'll just envision a mysterious, masked smiter bringing the hammer down on unsuspecting people.

So, how bad was that pun for someone to track you down in another thread?

Oooh! Pick me! Pick me! I wanna turn!!!

Hi there, Imiani... Welcome to our kooky li'l corner of the world weird web!

We're always happy to see new faces hereabouts... especially if they tend to stick around and become not so new faces... the well seasoned ones are fairly tasty, you know?

Anyhoo... the applaud/smite (karma) thing... really it's intended for little else other than "fun"... you really like something that someone posted and you give 'em an applaud... someone posts something that's particularly groan-worthy, you smite 'em... Karma, around here, is really nothing to take seriously, though. Some people literally beg for smites... other people toss out applauds like fairy dust... some people won't smite cuz it makes them cry... other folks won't applaud just cuz they're grumpy... *shrugs*... I can guarantee ya that Eol will yammer incessantly trying to explain simple stuff, that he'll facelick you (see above) and give you an applaud for enduring it.
