Sorry to hear about your employment situation, Alacrity. Here's hoping the offer comes through!

I'm still out for the foreseeable future. ... RL has bitter-sweet taste about it. My wife and I have had some very sweet moments over the last few months, but things have not gotten better for her yet.

I'm still in.

Brom did you want Sung to handle the conversation in the gun shop, or have Asher do it? Asher's tendancy would be to let the captain or Sam do the talking if their around... though this is a gun shop and, well, guns are what Asher does best!

Brom,

I'm not quite sure what to post next, or how far into the future I am allowed to post.

Some background info regarding this other plane of existance that Sanya has visited would be tremendously helpful (I hope). That little piece regarding her magical training, while very cool, also completely caught me by surprise.

I also have a couple other questions:

1) how long does it take to get from Sanya's tower to Rayther by horse? by foot? (I feel as though I've asked this question before)

2) when should Sanya expect the "gift" to arrive from the judge? If it arrives by mid-morning, Sanya will look to examine it. If not, I believe Sanya will head to Rayther mid-morning.

3) is it proper for one of Sanya's servant to "announce" her desire to meet will the Lord of Rayther prior to showing up? If yes, what's the proper amount of time between announcement and actually audience?

Personally, I prefer it out in the open.

A couple of questions:

1) I'm not planning to have Sanya do anymore than you have posted for her. She'll go to bed as you have suggested. So... do you want me to start posting my actions for the morning?

2) How long is the trip from Taurwen to Rayther by horse?

3) Can Sanya have "Endure Elements" permanently cast on her?

Thanks!

Alacrity,

Is there more to come with your most recent update that I should wait for, or should I just post that Asher heads into town looking for ammo and his bag? The reason I ask is that I thought Sam, Sung, and Asher were all going together to the meeting and then hitting the town to resupply. I'm cool either way.

Brom,

How much funds does Asher have to spend on ammo?
Just curious.

Taurwen | Rayther | Outside of The City of Rayther | Claise 23rd, Teladay, 452ER, 6:03pm | Storming

The Lady of Taurwen sat back in her chair, closed her eyes for a moment, and paused to let Cyeen’s words sink into her memory. It was a deliberate pause -- long enough for the good judge to stop holding his breath in anticipation of her response. Always in such a hurry, humans. Never pause to think what good or ill may follow their decisions.

In the silence, she contemplated briefly on the meaning of the dark news that the judge had brought her. What are you up to, Todraid? While she knew the High Speaker feared her, the man had so far had enough sense to not challenge her outright. And Sanya had done her best to show that she cared little to have his position. She cared for the people of Rayther dearly, but had no real desire to be their queen.

“I shall help you, Judge Cyeen, as best I can,” she spoke softly. “I shall seek an audience with the High Speaker tomorrow, late afternoon, if it pleases him.” Looking the judge in the eyes, “I should like it very much if you would accompany me.”

[OOC: assuming a positive response… though, if he declines, it matters little.]

“You are welcome to enjoy my hospitality for the night, good judge. Youdar will ensure a room is made available for you, and can provide you with anything else you desire.” Sanya rose from the table. “I must retire for the evening, however, and try to discern the truth of the matter behind your troubling news. “

The paused again, another thought coming together, “I shall also like to examine your ‘gift’ more closely, if I may. I realize you have left it back in your office. Perhaps in the morning, I could see it.”

[OOC: Assuming some sort of response.]

She excused herself from the room, inviting Youdar to follow her. Once out of the room, she instructed her manservant to make a room ready for the judge and provide him with whatever food or drink the judge might desire. “Treat him as an honored guest, Youdar. He may be one of our few allies.”

[OOC: Assuming a positive response]

The Lady of Taurwen moved up to her library, selecting books from the shelf that might help shed more light on the subject. After studies and meditation on the subject, she too retired to her bed, waiting for the morning.

[OOC –PART 1 – Sanya will be looking for books on the subjects of charms/enchantments, magical decanters, a genealogical record of the High Speaker, and similar books.]

[OOC –PART 2 – I’ve stopped here because I want to finalize Sanya’s spells known list before proceeding. I hop to complete it by week’s end…. Thanks]

Subject: Here... it's a bit longer than I expected...

Rocinante, 11:30 pm

As the Kid made his way to his bunk, he mentally kicked himself for drinking himself stupid. Gonna gets folks killed with such foolishness, Kid. You know youse and the bottle ain’t friends. What if tha’ headhunter had been look for other sorts of trouble? That’s right… you’d have been dead.

Tired as he was, Asher didn’t stand up well to the mental assault. He didn’t bother to remove the day’s dust from himself or take off his clothes. He simply flopped into his bed and let exhaustion take him captive into a fitful sleep.

Rocinante, 12:45 am

The sudden, violent shaking of the ship was more than enough to stir Asher from his deep, yet restless sleep. He sat up straight in his bed, gasping for breath. For a moment, he thought he had overslept and ol’ Sam was taken them into black already. The Lad stared around his bunk for a few, long moment, trying to push the exhaustion away.

Somethin’ don’t feel right…

Climbing out of his bunk, Asher meets up with Ma and Miss Willow, Ma ready to take care of whatever trouble might be outside with the end of her shotgun. Looking out the bay window, Asher could see that it was the headhunter’s ship taking off at full burn. He laid a gentle, yet firm hand on Ma, stopping her from exiting.

“Safer in here than out there if the damn fool wants to take off that way, Ma.”

When the Roc finally stops jittering around, Asher goes back to his bunk and picks up his Peacekeepers, before leading the ladies out of the ship to investigate.
The ground was scorched and, as he looked up at the ship-speck in the sky, the Kid wondered aloud, “Why he’d leave in such a dang hurry? Reckless idiot could have set the whole town on fire if he had a blow back.”

Shaking his head in indignation at the headhunter’s foolishness, Asher turned his attention back to the earth. It was then that he caught Ma’s eye and sensed she had found something. The Kid came up alongside of her, the smell of her discovery assaulting his nostrils before the sight could his eyes.

The charred remains of the bounty hunter apparently caught in the blast of his own ship. What is goin’ on here?
Before Asher could draw any of his own conclusions, Miss Willow pointed out the bullet hole in the hunter’s head.

The Kid’s lips pursed tightly, and shook his head. “Looks like someone grew tired of playing ‘hide and seek’ with this guy. We best head back to the ship.”

On they made their way back to the ship, the Kid noticed something lying next to the Roc’s landing strut. Thinking it to be some kind of debris blown over from when the hunter’s ship had taken off, Asher looked to clear it away. As he came closer though, the Lad discovered it to be a hat. I’ve seen this… Asher thought, trying figured out why the hat seemed familiar. Where? Where have I seen it?

Suddenly, as though yesterday’s events were flashing through his mind in rewind, Asher found the memory. The woman with the pearly peacekeepers! The Kid was sure of it. Stooping down, he picked up the hat. What was her name again?

Back in the galley, the three of them stood around, Ma heatin’ up some water to help them all get back to sleep. They chatted a bit, but for the most part Asher was left to his own thoughts. Hope you find the peace yer lookin’ for soon, Ma’am. Runnin’ from the gun ain’t no way to live life.

Asher was about to call the Cap’n, when the man himself step though the galley door.

“Awful late, dontcha think?” Wyatt said softly, eyeing the group with furrowed brows and a downturned head, his thumbs hooked in his belt.

Asher let the good Doctor tell the Cap’n the story. The frown never left Sung’s face during the recital of their discovery and when they were done, he gave a slight shake of his head. “So, someone stole the bounty hunter’s ship after killing the Buhn Dahn?

“None of our gorram business if’n you ask me. Less we know about that mess the better. Now, there’s a lot goin’ on in less hours than I’d like to count. So, I suggest the likes of you all get some sleep so we can be fresh faced and bright eyed when we have to make decisions that’ll effect our overall well-bein’. Dohn-ma?”

Asher gave the Cap’n a nod, “Gotcha, Cap’n.”

The Kid headed back for his bunk, hoping to find peace for his own troubled mind.

Rocinante, 3:20 am

Asher tossed over in his bed yet again. The Kid had lost track of how many times he had done so over the last couple hours. Opening his eyes, he peered through the darkness finding the object which was keeping him up.

The woman’s hat lay on his table. It’s just not right. he thought with a frustrated sigh. Getting up, the Kid picked up the hat and quietly made his way to the cargo bay. Finding a shovel, Asher opened the hatch and cautiously approached the remains of the head hunter.

It not right. the thought came again, as he stared at the bullet hole. The Kid was no bounty hunter, and nor would he ever accept a contract to take someone’s life. But Asher knew what it was to live by the gun, and he hoped to god that someone would have the decency to bury him when his time came to die by the gun. A man shouldn’t be left out on display like that… in his shame…

Resolved, Asher went to work, digging up a shallow grave in the dirt that had been loosened from the head hunter’s ship takin’ off. Though his muscles ached and he body cried out for bed, the Kid knew he would have no rest until he had seen the job done.

It’s not right. Asher wrestled with his thoughts as he wrestled with the dirt. Shooting a man is one thing. But putting him under the ship? He looked up for a moment, searching the starry sky for the ship-speck. Why?

The mixed emotions the Kid felt -- hatred that the woman would act so indecent moved to anger towards what could destroy a woman’s innocence so completely.

It’s just not right.

The hole was dug and Asher dragged the body into it, the smell of the corpse threatening to overcome more than once. Yet, he remained steady to his course, making quick work of covering up the dead man. When he was finished, he felt more still need to be done. So, he kept silent watch over the body. Need a shepherd. he thought. Someone to say somethin’

But there was no shepherd, and the Kid had no words. In the still, cool air, he stood, like a watchman. And in the stillness, Asher’s mind wandered back to the times he had stood and kept watch for a moment over his brother’s graves.

After a time, Asher breathed in deep. It was a cleansing breath which left the darkness of his soul for a moment at the grave. Taking his hat off in respect, he gave the grave a nod of acknowledgement before turning back for the ship.

Rocinante, 5:55 am

Asher woke up from his short sleep. He had set his alarm, something he rarely did, knowing that his normally faithful internal clock would have utterly failed him this morning. The sleep had been too short to take away any of the toils of yesterday. Still, the Kid felt a certain sense of peace which carried him forward.

Coming into the galley, he was the last to arrive (another anomaly) for breakfast. As he went to pick up his plate from Ma, he kissed her gently on the cheek. “Thanks for nursing me back to health last night. I would have been a wreck today if you hadn’t.”

Sam and Wolf were back already, and it gladdened the Kid’s heart to see the pilot up and about. Sam caught Asher yawning, and made some comment about him being lazy and what had taken him so long to get to breakfast. Asher smiled. Yep. Same ol’ Sam. Nice to have him back…

The Kid filled in the crew that he had gone out and buried the dead man late in the night. “Sorry, Cap’n. I know you said it was none of our business, but I just had no peace ‘bout it. A man should have to lie out there in all his shame like that. It’s not decent, y’ know?” He looked around the room for affirmation. “It’s just not right.” He said, looking at the ground.

Miss Willow surprised the Lad with a strong hug, and light kiss to the forehead before looking into his eyes, “You’re a good man, Asher Talhone, a good man.”

The Kid blushed profusely, “Thanks, Miss Willow,” he said simply, as he looked to take his seat around the table. As he ate, he listened to the Cap’n talk about getting paid and what needed to get done before they could break atmo.

When he had finished giving the others their orders, the Cap’n glanced over at the Sam and the Kid’s direction. “I’m assumin’ the two of you’ll be joining me at the town meeting?”

“Sounds good t’ me, Cap’n.”

“Good. Then we’ll swing by the port authority once we get our fill here, an’ after that we’ll hit the main street an’ see if I can’t get me a new hat, while Asher picks up our ammunition, an’ Sam replaces that shirt they made Swiss cheese outta.”

“You got it, Cap’n.” came the Kid’s reply. And he added, “Need to swing by the Doc’s place too. Left my bag of tricks there in all the rush… would be good to get them back.”

When the meal was finished, Asher made quick work of getting ready, combing his hair and putting on some fresh clothes. His gun belts strapped on, the Kid was going to reach for the Peacekeepers again, but changed his mind and picked up his 6s. Bit more intimidating… maybe we can avoid a fire fight today.

Subject: I'm trying, really

Apologies all around, guys. I know I promised you something two days ago, Al. But work continues to interrupt and take priority right now. I keep thinking I'm just about down and than a couple new urgent "projects" pop up.

If I were to post, I'd write something about burying the bounty hunter and thinkingabout the mysterious lady... wishing her peace. Probably reflect on that a bit.

And in the morning, while tired, Asher will also be happy that the group is back together. Privately, he'd thank Ma for looking after him the night before. And privately, the Kid would apologize to the Captain for not being more responsible last night and knowing his limits.

He'll be all in favour of accompanying the Captain to the meeting, and restocking the ammo. I thinkhe alsoneedstopay the doctor a visit to pick up his bag of weapons from under the bed. (unless we want to assume that Sam and Wolf brought them back in the morning).

Asher will be wearing his pair of 6s today, looking for a more "intimidating" presence.

Thanks for your patience, folks.

Brom, I'll also try to post for Sanya soon too. Probably not until Sunday/ Monday. I owe this game a post first, though.

Subject: Looking to sort out the ramblings...

It is good to be home.

Sanya had that thought often when she returned from her travels, and it was no less true tonight, sitting down for dinner while the winter storm raged outside. She had spent the last day preparing documents and speeches for the Rayther council in regards to her most recent trip to Bayris. The members of the Trade Council of the western port city were a shrewd lot who would try to squeeze a leven out of a whorl. The negotiations weren’t complete, but Sanya felt satisfied that she had made some headway, and was confident that others from the Rayther council could finish up the work she had started.

The meal set before her was extravagant as usual. While the sorceress could easily be content with so much less, Sabil took pride in her labours and Sanya enjoyed allowing the cook the freedom to express her creativity through the preparation of the food. The elven lady also had to admit that the cook’s work had been instrumental in making many trade negotiations go smooth as visitors were softened by the pleasant food served to them.

She was just starting to contemplate that truth while eating the first few bites of fowl, when her loyal man-servant politely interrupted.

“Ahem,” Youdar spoke. “Your ladyship, the High Judge Jalber Cyeen is here to see you.”

Sanya looked up from her meal at Youdar, who promptly lowered his eyes in deference. “High Judge Cyeen, you say?” the lady asked.

“Indeed, my lady.”

Sanya’s right eyebrow cocked up with curiosity. “Interesting.” The elven woman thought briefly about the meaning of this. The High Judge was always quite good about sending messengers a day or two before to announce his intentions to visit. Sanya almost ask Youdar if any messengers had arrived while she had been in Bayris, but she knew her manservant would have informed her earlier if that had been the case.

“Show him in, Youdar,” she said, still trying to discern the meaning of the judge’s visit. As an afterthought, she said, “And then bring in another place setting. I suspect the good judge will not refuse a warm meal.”

Youdar bowed and left, returning a few minutes later with Jalber in tow. As the judge entered, Lady Sanya rose to her feet, a sign of honour to her friend. She was careful to note his demeanor as his came in and made his way straight to the fireplace. His nose almost white from the cold, and his jowls shaking with each step. His brow was furrowed, his hands rung together, and occasionally blown upon. He did not even acknowledge his host, so focused was his attention on the warm the fire provided.

“Praise Shinara,” he breathed heavily. “I was beginning to think that I’d never thaw.”

”High Judge Cyeen,” Sanya spoke, her voice soft but full of authority. “What brings you so far from home at this late hour and in this weather?”

“It is potentially a terrible thing, terrible news, no, a terrible thing and news,” Jalber continued to keep his wide back facing Sanya as he warmed himself. “Truly disastrous, and well worth the journey to your tower, Lady Sanya. Oh, well worth it indeed! There is trouble afoot. Trouble of the most heinous kind, I assure you! And it should need your direct attention. Yes, yours and yours alone, for there are no others to fall back upon at this point. Disastrous, I tell you. Disastrous!

“They’ve all gone, all of them—or at least some of them…most—any who could have done anything most assuredly. And the council? That council does nothing but preen and accept gifts. Oh!” Jalber struggled to remain facing the fire, but at the same time tried his best to find Sanya with his wide-eyed gaze. “The gifts are all secret, but I’ve seen some, and I tell you that I like none of it! I’ve had to practically lock myself away, a prisoner in my own home, Lady Sanya. A prisoner! I’ve been too afraid to even hold court, and I’ll open not a single package. No, not I. Glassy-eyed, and soulless, that’s what they become. Puppets! Oh, I’ll not be a puppet!”

Jalber turned quite suddenly and started warming his backside, his hands still held behind him, his great girth slow to follow his momentum. “I came as soon as I learned you’d returned from Bayris. Did you not receive my missives? I’d sent three. All by foot messenger, and the last was through my trusted servant Densam. Oh, what has become of Densam? Poor lad…I shall never forgive myself if he’s been harmed. Never!”

Sanya allowed a pause to hang in the air after the judge had let loose his barrage of words. It was meant to invite peace back into the room as much as to ensure the man was finished speaking for the moment. spoke, her voice was gentle and soothing.

“Calm yourself, Lord Cyeen” she said, her voice a gentle rebuke. Youdar returned at that moment, preparing a place at the table for the Judge opposite of Sanya, near the fire. “Come, sit at my table and take some small comfort in the warm food.”

[OOC: Assuming the judge takes a seat… or not… regardless…]

Once the High Judge had calmed himself a little, the elven lady continued, “Now, Lord Cyeen, please. Speak plainly to me this matter that has caused you so much distress.”

[OOC: Assuming Jalber continues with more details, Sanya will attempt to gather the following information – 1. What is the matter that he wants Sanya to attend to? 2. Who is “gone” that could have helped, and to where have they gone? 3. Who on the council is “accepting gifts”, and what exactly are these “gifts”, and what proved does he have that council members are accepting gifts? Who are they becoming “puppets” to? 4. Who has been sending him “packages”? How many has he received? Has he opened any of them? 5. Why does he feel as though he cannot hold court? Does he feel threatened? If so, by whom? 6. When did he send out his messengers?]

Brom,

I have no problem waiting. Thanks for putting this together.

I'm still hoping to send you a revised spell list for your approval. Hopefully, late tonight.

Also, I've begun looking and trying to sort out Sanya's history, making notes and such, trying to put some "skin" on this elf witch.

I noticed that you said you are also looking to rework our histories a bit... looking to intertwine them, I'm sure.

So, I was wondering... should I be investing much time into this looking over my history? Will your revisions be pretty major, or tame?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what your start date is, but I'm not in any rush to start (well, I'm, but I'm not... there's tension...)

November is looking like an almost complete write-off for me as I've gotten word that I'll be traveling for nearly 4 weeks. I'm off on vacation next week. So, my connection to the internet will be sporatic at best.

I hope this doesn't discourage you. Like I said, I am REALLY interested in this game.

I just noticed something about Sanya that should be an interesting roleplaying opportunity:

She has a phobia of rodents in her history and a rat familiar.

Not sure if that was done on purpose, Brom, but it did make me laugh.

I also had a moment of deja-vu reading through your character, Van. Admiral just put up that thread about the Inn back in 2001 and I had read through a bit of it... one of them being Brom's old Gods of Audalis game. (which looked really neat, btw). And then, lo and behold, you resurrect one of the main characters! (think you can convince Alacrity to bring back in Angus? That could be fun!)

Anyway, looking forward to gettin this on!
