We are all sitting about the common room regaling each other with tales of adventures long past, ale or mulled wine filling our cups when the inn door burst open, a cold breeze blowing the warmth of the inn away.

A hulking shape silhouetted by the bright early springtime sun, fills the door completely. Stooping to get through the door, and still not able to stand fully erect once inside, your first instinct is to grab your weapons for an ogre has walked calmly into your midst. Except you are checked by the polite apologies as the hulking form reaches behind closing the door, while taking off his cloak, and propping a massive Ashandarei against the bar. Shock runs through you at the fact that this mountain of a man has four arms.

Ignoring the stares of everyone in the inn, he addresses only the innkeeper, “A room if you would please; the finest available... and a round for everyone.” He tosses a platinum piece to the astounded man. Retrieving his Ashandarei, he follows the innkeeper up the stairs to his room. As soon as he is out of sight the common room erupts in conversation.

As many of you know I have been working on a Human mutant character concept, and I have finally finished what I was working on.

This is what I came up with: (D&D 3.5)

Name: Markus Flynn
Class: Ranger 3, Fighter 7
Race: Human Mutant
Size: Medium (enlarged form)
Alignment: LN
Height: 8’ – 3”
Weight: 320 lb
Looks: Huge person with 4 arms, and translucent skin. Brown hair cut short and green eyes.

Str: 20 I originally rolled 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 17 (on 4d6 dropping lowest)
Dex: 17
Con: 16
Int: 15
Wis: 14
Cha: 15

BAB: 10/5
Fort: 11
Ref: 8
Will: 5

Grapple: 27/22
Speed: 25’
Initiative mod: +7
AC: 27 Flat-footed: 24 Touch: 14

Racial features /Mutations (The MP Costs and Values have to equal 0. The benefits being balanced by the drawbacks)

EXTRA ARMS [MAJOR]
You grow an additional pair of arms. The extra arms look and behave exactly like your other arms.
MP Cost: 6.
Benefit: As a creature with more than two arms, you gain a +4 mutation bonus on Climb checks and grapple checks. For the purposes of combat, both extra arms are treated as “off hands” (that is, you still have only one primary hand).

ENLARGED FORM [MAJOR]
You grow, becoming an freakishly large specimen of your kind.
MP Cost: 6.
Benefits: You become as large as your size category allows (8 feet tall for Medium-size characters, 4 feet tall for Small characters). However, you function in many ways as if you were one size category larger. Whenever you are subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), you are treated as one size larger when it is advantageous to you. You are also considered to be one size larger when determining whether special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect you. You can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty (for example, a Medium-size character with this mutation can wield a Large weapon one-handed).
This mutation does not change your face or reach.

THIN SKIN [DRAWBACK]
You are more susceptible to harm.
MP Value: 5.
Drawback: You take 1 additional point of damage each time you are wounded.

ABILITY DECAY [DRAWBACK]
Your body or mind suffers from some marked deformity or deterioration.
MP Value: 4.
Drawback: One of your ability scores (your choice) permanently decreases by 2. You cannot apply this drawback to an ability score of 3 or less.
Special: You may take this drawback multiple times. Its effects stack.

REDUCED SPEED [DRAWBACK]
You are unable to move as quickly as normal due to various mutations and deformities.
MP Value: 3.
Drawback: Reduce your speed by 5 feet. This speed decrease also applies to any natural burrow, climb, fly, or swim speed you might have.
Special: You may take this drawback multiple times. Its effects stack.

*************************************************************************************

After about a half hours time the hulking 4 armed man comes back down the stairs, freshly groomed and dressed in fine clothing.
Both sets of arms clasped behind his back he stands as striate as the ceiling allows addressing the inn patronage, “Good evening everyone!” His surprisingly tenor voice resonates across the room, “My name is Markus Flynn, and I’m sure you have all noticed my entrance into this fine establishment. If you will but allow me to sup in peace, I would be happy to tell you all, my tale!” Turning to address only the innkeeper, “I would be much obliged for a meal of whatever the kitchen is serving this evening, and another round of drinks for everyone.” Remaining crouched, he walks to an empty table in the far corner of the room. Sitting down, the chair groans under his large frame.

Largely ignoring everyone, other than the cat that has curled up in his lap, he eats his meal savouring every bite. Finally having finished one of the serving maids whisks away his plate, bringing Markus another tankard of ale. “Thank you miss.” He says with a smile, placing a silver piece into her hand.

The conversation had picked up while Markus was eating, but now it dies down again all eyes turning to him.

Clearing his throat, Markus begins, “My tale isn’t as exciting as most people think upon seeing me, but it is an interesting enough tale, if I do say so myself!” With a reminiscing smile on his face, “My Father, Michael Flynn, was an adventurer now turned farmer. And my mother, Gondelyn Flynn, was a mage who never had the chance to gain a great renown; though she was apprenticed to Elminster himself.

She became pregnant with me early in her apprenticeship, and concealed the fact for fear that the Great Elminster would send her away... As she found out would have been for the best.” Taking a sip from his tankard he continues, “My parents told me that at first the pregnancy was as normal as any... but as her pregnancy and apprenticeship continued things became more and more difficult. Finally after 5 months Elminster found out, and told her the consequences of her actions.”

Markus looks around the room catching many people in the eyes, “You see, when you use magic, it affects your body. That is why many powerful wizards are withered and not all that pleasant to look at. The magic takes its toll on the body. And when a women is pregnant and uses magic it takes its toll on the unborn child as well.” He raises all four of his arms to illustrate the point.

“Elminster made my mother promise to not use magic any more while pregnant. To which, after learning what using magic and being pregnant could do, she readily agreed. However the damage, if you call it that, was done.”

“I was born two months early, yet was still larger than most babies born a few weeks late; coming in at 11 lb 4 oz. The time of my berth and my unusual size weren’t the only thing different about me.” Again raising all four arms and pulling up the sleeve on one. “If you look closely you will see that my skin is translucent. My parents told me that when I was born it was nearly transparent. And it stayed that way for a few months until becoming milkier to what you see today.”

Markus continues his story, “Home for me growing up was the Cormyrian countryside outside of Suzail. Father had a farm there where I helped out. Mother was often in Suzail proper continuing her apprenticeship. Though there weren’t many other kids my age about, the ones that were either stayed away, or bullied and made fun of me because of my differences. And because of that I tended to stick to the woods, and wilderness. There I found comfort in the trees, with the animals.”

Taking another drink, “When I was 10 years of age my mother left her apprenticeship. She was worried that I wouldn’t learn anything of society spending all my time in the woods. So she took me to school. Teaching me how to cook, and how to talk, and act within society. All in all those lessons in etiquette were more than useful, but they were dry and boring.
Over the next few years my mother started to go out adventuring... flexing her new found magical powers. Each time she went out she was gone longer and longer. I stayed home on the farm with my father. My great size and strength was a great boon on the farm.”

Shifting slightly and taking a breath, “Then one day when I was 16, a messenger came to the farm. My mother had been out adventuring...” He clears his throat, “Excuse me, as many times as I have told this story it still chokes me up... My mother had fallen.”

“A herd of minotaurs had taken something of value... to this day I don’t know what... Her party had been hired to take it back. As it turned out the herd was too much for the group. Only Jacob Woodsbridge a young fighter new to the party survived to be able to let us know of my mother’s fall. My father and I were distraught. But we managed to move on with our lives. It was then that I started training; teaching myself about fighting, learning with earnest the ways of the woods so that I could avenge my mother’s death.”

Turning to the serving maid with a smile, “Excuse me miss, could you please bring me some nuts, or some other thing to munch on? Thank you”

“I don’t want to take too much time, but I will tell you this. I did indeed find that herd of minotaurs... and they paid for their crimes...” Looks into his drink, “...With their lives.”
Looking back up as the serving maid brings the nuts, “Thank you my dear.”

“Now; please I have told you my tale, Won’t someone regale me with theirs?” Markus concludes, popping a nut into his mouth.

I was hoping that Ayrn would be back and able to respond and keep things going. However Ayrn isn't back yet and I don't want the game to fizzle.

So...

The characters were heading to the inn at Mandala... Do you's want to RP stopping at the inn without Ayrn or continue along?

Also haker9 has inquired about joining the game, to which I have said was alright. They have not yet PMed me a character though... So more to come on that.

The sword breaker is just a short sword that has notches on the one side... isn't it? Because if that is the case wouldn't it follow the same basic stats as that of the short sword? Just with the added bonus for disarm/sunder?

I'm developing the character, for a freeform rules based game... And the DM isn't here ATM to be able to ask...

Our normal rule of thumb is that if we can show the rules we can do it. But in this case I just don't know which one is a real rule, and which is someone else's homebrew. It is a common enough RL medieval weapon that you would think that there would be some rules for it...

I just found another entry that puts the damage type at piercing and a threat range of 10-20x2. That is now all three damage types... *sigh*

3.5 is what I'm looking for.

What I have been able to find has a split from +2 to +4 for the bonus, 1d3-1d6 dmg, some say it deals slashing damage, others bludgeoning...
Some say that it ignores some hardness of what it is sundering.

Each entry I've found is different. So I was hoping that there is some unified entry out there somewhere.

So I've been thinking about making a character that makes use of a sword breaker. However in looking it up, I've come across multiple entries on the weapon, but the only thing they can agree upon is that there is some kind of a benefit to sundering and disarming swords.

So for those of you's out there who do use sword breakers, or DM's with characters that use them... What rules do you use?

I've been looking and I've found a system for mutations that will work for my character concept.
It is a modern gaming system that used D20 so with the exception of a few modern specific mutations it works perfectly with D&D(I use 3.5)

A long time ago, in a town far from here... I once had the sex rules for D&D (2ed I believe)

I was wondering if someone out there in cyberland had them still or better yet had them for 3/3.5ed.

The reason that I want them is for rules on mutations.
The copy I had included random mutations from magic use while pregnant...

I was looking through the monster manual for some character concept ideas and I seen that sometimes the sahuagin have mutants with 4 arms... And I was thinking that a 4 armed human would be neat character to play...

I just didn't know what kind of level adjustment would be needed, and what kind of other bonuses and the like would take place.

I was driving past my towns cemetery last night just as the sun was setting, and it brought to mind a number of books I have read...

So in these books the necropolis is filled with undead but they always come bursting from the ground. So it comes to mind that undead (with the exception of Vampires) don't need to sleep/rest... And most have no need for feeding and such.

So why do the masters of undead keep them in their graves? Is it to keep up their moral which they don't have?

I have found that if I don't manually subscribe to a post then I don't get email updates about the post... is this normal?
