I just think the point for point represents a personal's internal strength better than a limited amount of a certain level. Say if you use a level 2 to pay for a level 1 spell, you have energy that is being wasted. I could post the system charts here for your review, but it is your choice.

USS Discovery, Deck 2 – In front of Mac’s quarters
2366.10.22 – 1405 hours

There she was, waiting for him with Lt Bandig being pulled off of brig detail to take her place as acting Chief of Security with Ensign Raditz (if he is still with us) replacing him. Rrowl would’ve been the normal choice but she had him overseeing the security for vaccine and accompanying it wherever it went. So much was happening at once that her mind was all in a shuffle with thoughts splitting off in every which direction. She was bothered by keeping her true intentions secret from a man that she would normally trust implicitly.

Tuvar stood there leaning against the wall next to the door to of his quarters, a small type I phaser in a holster along her belt line. She did not want to come off as someone suspicious with a phaser that would be used normally for full security detail only, so she carried one that was standard for one of her station. She did not hear Mac come up until he was just a few steps away, drawing her attention towards the man that she was to now keep under constant eye.

would you mind if we used a point system as introduced in Unearthed Arcana based on class lvl; how many bonus spells you can cast vs. max level of spell able to cast. Not sure how many points it would give me but I could look it up.

Subject: watching

She watched him as he passed among the sleeping figures and was never quite sure what he was going to do. Mysterious was his features and slightly disturbing for her to think about. Although she knew to never truly judge a person from their physical appearance, Alyssia thought of a dark evil when she looked at him but could sense no darkness from him. Perhaps he was a troubled sould, one who needed help to pull him out of the struggle between darkness and light and show him the true path.

The servant of Lysora watched as he yanked the cork out of the bottle with his teeth in a violent manner and tilted the bottle upright as if to drain all of its contents. A look of relief washed over Draven as he finally lowered the glass container before winding back his arm and throwing it full force into the fire and creating a bigger inferno for just a moment. Such pain filled the man that Alyssia did not understand how he lived with it.

She only watched on from the edge of the forest as a Khord that she did not recognize came up and introduced himself. A few words were exchanged before the Khord handed Draven something and proceeded on. Curiousity filled Alyssia, and she made her way from her area of solitude at the edge of the forest and toward her dark companion. Maybe this is why Lysora has led her to this point, to help this one man.

"So, friend if I may use the term so, what just transpired at this point?" the question hung in the air. Alyssia truly hoped the man would tell her the truth; it would show her something of his character.

(OOC: although I have no ranks in sense motive, I will do my best in trying to discern if he lies or tells truth. No offense Val, but she does not truly trust one who seems so "dark")

2366.10.22
USS Discovery, Main Security - 1300

Tuvar had been thinking of the question she had posed earlier of whether not the vaccination would pose any harm to her. Although she had given Rrowl the main portion of her duties for the day, she still had not been able to dissect enough of the vaccination and isolate the portions that harm humans. Her curiosity would not let her settle on the matter until she had found the answer that she was looking for. She was bebinning to grow frustrated with her inability to find a solution.

Tuvar was about to call Dr. White when Commander Gavison strode into the room. Without hesitation, she quickly stood up to the position of attention before snapping a quick salute before proceeding to the position of at ease. Tuvar wandered why the commander had came to her office, her mind already working on the answer.

“Computer,” he said as the chamber fell silent. “End all recording in this room. Security protocol Alpha Gamma Gamma Delta One Nine Six Nine, by Commander Gavison’s orders.”

=/= Orders confirmed. Security recording temporarily disabled, Commander. =/=

Kel smiled, “Precautions.”

"Pardon, sir?"

(Insert Gavison monologue her.)

"Sir, I will try not to disappoint you."

“The assignment is difficult to say the least. We can’t provide you with any more reason to be in his shadow than necessary so you’re going to have to think on your feet. Both the captain and I feel that should you need to temporarily reassign some of your responsibilities you have the go ahead. Protecting Jack MacTavish has just become your top priority,” the commander replied.

"I will think of something, commander."

Gavison nodded as he replied, "Good luck, lieutenant." Tuvar watched on as Gavison strode away and out of the door.

"Computer, resume security recordings, authorization Tuvar-Sierra-Echo-Tengo-Five-Tree-Eight-Four-One."

=^=Security recording resumed.=^=

"Lt. Bandig, please report to main security."

She would have to think of a reason to remain close to Jack. It would more than likely prove to be quite some challenge.

Subject: feelings of guilt

She had come far since that fateful day just after the sixteenth anniversary of her birth. Alyssia thought about all the different events that had brought her to this point in her life. The death of her betrothed over three years ago had started this chain of events that had brought her much bliss and happiness. Lysora guided her on a path of goodness and instructed her in the ways of healing bodies, minds and spirits. Learning the hard way, Alyssia knew that at times you had to take life in order to protect it. Such had been the case with this village.

Looking around brought the sight of many happy villagers to her eyes, but it had been bought at a great cost. Tears began to roll down her cheeks at the sight of the witch’s head ablaze atop of the bonfire, smoking and turning to ash with the heat. Sadness at the loss of a life, even that of an evil one, plagued her. Alyssia knew deep down that she had been at fault for not being able to heal the sorceress of the pains that troubled, that she had been unable to bring peace to an aching soul. Maybe the gods would be merciful to the woman in the afterlife which she now resided.

“May Lysora grant you peace and heal your pains, dark maiden,” Alyssia whispered beneath her breath as her slender hand and fingers wrapped themselves around her oaken quarterstaff.

Many words, of thanks and good tidings, passed by her ears. These people were now able to go back to their live without worry for their children or their own lives. Why was it that she could not feel the piece within her own self at the moment? Was there something else that she could have done to save this woman? Alyssia would now never know, and this troubled her. A true servant of Lysora would have been willing to have lain down their own life for the others, but she had been full of greed at that moment in time, had not yet been willing to die. Perhaps these tenants were not true, but it was what she believed deep down.

Solitude came to Alyssia as she made her way into the woods surrounding the small village. Although she could still hear the villagers’ celebrations, it was but faint music to her ears. Kneeling down in the earth and loose leaves on her knees, she closed her eyes and steadied her breathing. In and out, slow and steady, the rhythm came to her. The material world fell away from her sense of awareness and was replaced with one where she felt lighter, as if the weight of the world had been taken off of her shoulders. Red filled her vision where a brighter light came through her closed eyelids.

A grassy meadow filled with an array of wildflowers that was always the same filled her vision. It was here, in the wide open space that she was truly able to be in solitude, where she was truly able to be alone and feel at peace. Sweet scents came to her nostrils, the scents of dandelions, roses, lilies, carnations, and more. It was a place where all but the ugliest of souls could find some measure of healing to their soul. This was the realm of Lysora.

What is it that you wish, my child, the disembodied voice came to her mind. It was calm, soft, and soothing.

“Sacred mother,” Alyssia spoke, “I am troubled by recent actions. No longer am I sure if I have done the right thing.”

Lysora came into view. Her soft blue eyes came to peer into Alyssia’s as if looking deep down within the sould that rested in the shell of flesh. Waist length hair that was white as swan’s down rippled as if it was in a light breeze. Her very movements spoke of both the pain and joy that filled her being. Robes of soft silk of a very light blue hung on shoulders that not even this place could help to feel lighter. It was as if Lysora truly bore the world’s pains.

Her lips remained still as the words once again came. Fear not daughter, my hand guides you always. One can only be helped if they truly wish for the help that is brought to them. Sometimes one life must be snuffed out so that a greater number may be healed. Your actions were not formed out of greed, daughter, but a desire to live that is the basis of any sentient creature.

If you had given your life for that of the sorceress, how many more would have gone unaided? How many would die in the future for you to not be there to aid them? This, my daughter, is the answer to the question that rests in your heart. Now go and bring light unto those that will accept it.

Alyssia awoke back in the forest, aware of all the life that surrounded her. A rose full of soft, bright red petals rested in her lap. No thorns lined it stem, as was befitting of Lysora. The goddess had no thorns, had no desire to harms others that would embrace her. A new sense of calmness fell over Lysora as she made her way down to the village that had been freed of tyranny. Alyssia looked at the witch’s head in a new manner. The witch had been offered healing and had refused. No longer could she blame herself for the actions of others.

Tossing the rose into the bonfire, she spoke, “May you truly go on in peace to rest in the embrace of the goddess if she will take you.”

The sweet scent of roses filled the air, and more than one head turned to look in her direction. Tomorrow would bring another journey to her steps, would bring the start of a new path under her feet.

USS Discovery, Staff Meeting
2366.10.22, approximately 1100 hours

Tuvar listened on as the doctor spoke about the vaccine and then MacTavish repeated what she had heard from him earlier. But a vaccine that could not be teleported or be around humans, that posed quite a challenge. An all non-human crew qould be required to ferry it down to the planet via shuttle. And it would have to include at least one medically qualified personnel on hand at that. Although she was out of practice on her medical practice, Tuvar had made sure to keep up with the latest practices so that she was able to remain qualified in any matter.

Noah looked around the room at each of his officers. "Any further questions? Does anyone else have anything to add?"

"Yes, Doctor White?" Tuvar stood and spoke up, "What would the effect of the vaccine be on someone who is only half-human? Being a medical doctor myself, although choosing not to actively pursure the field, I know that someone who is of Vulcan and Human descent has an anatomy that is closer to that of a Vulcan."

She let the question hang in the air as she stood, hoping that she had made a correct assumption. It did surprise her at times at how she could so well follow logical lines of assumption.

Since Tuvar is only half-human, the other half being vulcan (duh!), would that offset the threat that the vaccine would haver to her? If so, she could lead the away team (being the only member of the senior staff that is not fully human, that she could be a likely choice to lead the away team.

She is also medically trained, although being out of practice, and a qualified pilot. If I didn't know any better, I would say Olan had a hand in making this a kind of mission where Tuvar could really shine.

I have the book of exalted deeds and would be interested in playing an impoverished sorcerer/wizard. It would mean that I wouldn't have any spells with costly components, but that would be fine with me. Also, do you have the completed mage book. I would like to set up a character to take the ultimate magus prestige class, which is a mixture of spontaneous/prepared arcane casting.

USS Discovery, Deck 15 – Main Security
2366.10.22, 0900 hours – Stardate: 43836.7

Tuvar had managed to relax a small bit the previous night. After the meet and greet, she had just wandered off to sit by herself in order to enjoy her meal and lull in her thoughts. It was there that she had remained until Mac had come to speak to her for a moment or two. The report of what she had to work with now sat on her desk, and she was curious to who this person was that shared the name of MacTavish. It was not something that she was going to take lightly for any reason. She had seen too many lives lost to take anything that was even a possibility of a threat lightly.

The ability to follow logical lines of thought that was the most common characteristic in many vulcans was not lost to her. Although she so often allowed her passions to persuade her in her thinking, Tuvar still possessed the ability to follow the lines of intel that had been presented to her. She no longer wondered why Mac had been so tight and wound up the previous day.

Pressing her comm she spoke sternly, “Tuvar to MacTavish, please report to Main Security when you have the opportunity, out.”

OOC: Eol, could you possibly send me a copy of the swing scheduling chart. I do not remember where a put the other copy all those many weeks ago.

2366.10.21
USS Discovery, Security One – Deck 15

It had been a fairly easy-going day with all things considered. It had been some time since any individual had acted out of line aboard the Discovery, but Tuvar did not mind that much at all. Easy was fine by her because it meant that her crew was doing their job by keeping everybody in the regimented line that was Starfleet’s code of conduct. She read over the reports and saw that only two individuals had been sent to the brig. A couple of punches had been thrown over something that the two did not even seem to remember. A slight laugh made its way from between her lips. Not everyday brought something amusing to her.

Tuvar pushed the PADD away from her and took a moment to rub her temples. A slight headache was forcing its way to her temple, something that she really didn’t need at the moment but was something that she could most definitely handle on her own. Thoughts of Matthew had been keeping her up at night, the distance between them seeming even greater now that they had been able to spend a few months stationed together aboard the Discovery, but his transfer had been ordered with no chance to appeal it. It seemed that she could look just about anywhere nowadays and see the love in an individual’s eyes that they harbored for a soul that matched theirs. Tuvar just wished that it wasn’t so hard to be away from the one that held the key to her heart.

=/= Bridge to security. =/=

Tuvar’s attention peaked at the sound of the comm.

Rrowl sighed and tapped the intercom. "Rrowl here."

=/= The captain and executive officer hve left the bridge with Commander Avanti, sir. Lieutenant MacTavish requests and honor guard to send them off and to receive the new senior officers. =/=

The kzinti officer nodded. "We're on our way," he answered, then cut the communication. His gaze fell upon the form of Ensign Radizt. "Raditz," he teased, "as unattractive as you are, you will probably be better received by honored guests than myself. Take Jeffries and Marks and go play honor guard at transporter room one."

An amused laughed came once more to the Security Chief as she spoke up, “Although, my shift was over by more than two hours ago, I’ll go ahead and command the detail myself. Besides, who better to provide an honor guard than the Chief of Security herself, right?

“Raditz, form up your team and follow me,” the command came easier for her now than it did just about nine months ago. She had grown to fill the position that she found herself in each day. Even knowing that her decisions had put men and women in a hospital bed or even into their grave, Tuvar still felt better about what she had to do in order to keep the general populace safe from whatever threat may target the Discovery.

It did not take long for the group to get to transporter room one, and there they waited as the others phased into being aboard their new vessel.

That is something that not all can afford, but of course, We with longer lifespans can take all the time that humans cannot. Even half-vulcans live somewhat considerably longer than normal humans.
