Subject: Into Trouble we Head

He had yet to put up his weapon, but not a person seemed phased by it. They were used to seeing heat being packed, especially here in the undercity. Vegas seemed more than happy to take up the invitation to entertain the crowd packed into the Rat Pack. James had to admit that the man's was not bad as he broke into an old classic that held a familiar tune to the music that had already been playing in the club.

Chela was the woman's name that he had been introduced to. He did not forget a name or a face or much of anything for that matter, and his mind took it all in with glutton. She wandered around and eventually came up with a tray of four drinks. Three of the drinks were placed on coasters at a single table while the fourth was carried a bit further back. He never lost sight of the woman, his enhanced eyes picking up every slight movement she made.

She was stopped by a big fellow, about the size of Casino here who now seemed distracted by a game going on in another part of the club. Him and his companion bodyguard were both packing - both smartguns and oldcybe. They were dangerous, that he could tell. His mind logged away the details of the encounter in the case that they would be needed later; every hair out of place and every minor curve of the one fellow's tattoos. The third man though, definitely more dangerous than the other two and definitely not somebody that needed hired muscle to protect himself. He refused the drink and took a look at the paper before crumpling it up and tossing it to the floor. The big gangster did not look too happy as he started to move out.

After bringing the happenings to Casino's atttention, the big solo simply replies, "Damn, Fixer stay here and cover me, I'm gonna try to talk to that guy leaving." He takes off while leaving his SMG with James. Before James could open his mouth to say anything, Casinso was already halfway to cover the distance between themselves and the group.

"Well, frag it," James simply said to himself. Vegas was now off the stage and appeared to be consoling Chela. James shouldered Casino's SMG and then racked his slide to make sure he had a clear round in the chamber while snagging the round that cleared his chamber out of the air and pocketing it. "Hope this don't go too far south."

With that, Fixer takes up a position to cover Casino and give him some measure of protection to come out of bad situation alive.

(Okay Brom, I would like an awareness check possible to see if I can't tell if they are wearing some kind of body armor of possibly oldcybe skin armor implants. Just trying to see what kind of protection they may have so I can shoot at a lesser protected area if it comes down to a firefight.)

Subject: Unto the Rat Pack

It was now early Saturday morning as the group of newly founded compatriots split into two groups, each following a different lead. Before the group split (assuming they all approve), James made sure to gain the numbers for each of the group members agents and programmed them in. Communication was too important of a tool and each group would need to share its discoveries with the other if something important reared its face. He noticed how his agent was a bit faster than those of the others; James had paid top dollar for it as he enjoyed some of its other purposes as well.

As James headed out with Casino and Vegas, he slipped his mask back up to cover his face and filter out the pollution that littered the air here in the undercity. His mirrorshades once again were pulled down over his eyes, and the grey hood of his jacket was pulled up to hide his other features. "Alright, friends, let us get this show on the road." The words rang hollow even to him. He did not have any friends in this life; they all seemed to turn on him or show up dead.

Seeing as how this was the time when the less savory element came out, James pulled free his Uzi and reslung it over his jacket. He hoped it would serve as a possible deterrent to any who had hopes of jumping them. A show of firepower sometimes served to convince those that would mean him harm to look another way. James unfolded the stock and pulled the weapon secure into his shoulder and at the ready. Though he had no experience with combat with the weapon, he still knew the basics that Brayden had showed him. It took a slow, deep breath to calm his nerves.

The small group was not too far into their walk when Casino pointed figures crouching in the darkness. The Vampire posers hissed at them and slinked back into the shadows to wait for some other poor fool to prey in. This was not Jame's concern. He may feel sorry for whomever they chose, but he would not know them, would not be burdened by their suffering.

Nothing else happened as the group traveled to the night club. Fixer's credchip held nine less credits than it had before, 3 a piece. He held his tongue for the time and would hope to reimbursed come the end of the run, whether they failed or succeeded. They went to enter the club and were charged another then creds. 'Not even a solid lead yet, and already down nearly twenty credits. Need to get something fast or may not be worth the run.' The thought ran through James's head, but he knew that any high paying run would incur its own costs.

Those that visited the Rat Pack held the same look as Vegas, with those flitty suits and fancy shoes. This must be where he gets the look. The clean air of the club let James slip the mask down off of his face, and once again he breathed unfiltered air. It was still not time for him to relax and let down his guard.

"Well, hello there, Vegas!" Chela smiles sweetly as she quickly leans in and kisses your cheek lightly so as not to leave any of the bright red lipstick she's wearing on your skin. "Casino! It's good to see you two lugs. It's been a while." Her friendly brown eyes fall on Fixer and she makes a quick assessment. "Who's your dour friend, love? And what can I get you boys to drink. You look like you could use a stiff one."

"Well Love ... it has been way too long since we have seen your smiling face too."

Vegas looked longingly into her deep brown eyes before continuing the conversation:

"The Handle of my dour friend here is Fixer.

"Fixer, this is Chela.

"As for a stiff one ... make mine ... Bourbon on the Rocks!

"What about you boys?"

Fixer replied with a short, "A clean water, on the rocks." He did not drink even when things were chill, and now they were on the job. He would not judge those that did however, everybody had their own habits and faults. He would, however, keep an eye out on their surrounding and the full crowd, never could be too cautious. Trust was a hard commodity to buy.

(OOC: Okay, going to keep up an active awareness. Make rolls as needed. James don't trust anybody, after being worked over so much. He expects trouble.)

Couple of things. With me going with Casino and Vegas, how is the rest of the group going to get to Bartholemew. Will we need to arrange transpo for them before heading to the club? Secondly, sense motive check on Casino. Don't know how that works and what kind of read I get off of him, don't really like this kind of stuff between pc's, but these two don't have an established history and after being betrayed in his past, James is not such a trusting person.

Lastly for now,James is the kind of person who keeps an eye out for anything that seems 'fishy'. So he's always using a passive awareness if that is acceptable.

As for him going to Bartholemew, he won't be much of an asset there, seeing as how Blossom is just as capable if not more so than him getting through electronic type locks. Gave him a hint of skill in it, and he's not much of a fighter, almost no skill at all with arms, just relying mostly at the moment on his natural attributes for 'combat'.

"Frak!" Blossom whispers and looks up sharply from her agent's screen. "We may have a problem, my little go-boys. Looks like students reside on campus."

That did not sound like such a good thing to James. Students on campus could be caught in crossfire if a shootout occurred, but this was supposed to be a silent run. NO FIREFIGHTS. Still, things did not always go according to plan. James had lost count of the number of times things had gone wrong for him.

The pretty bird, Vegas, began crooning in a rather decent tone. His voice was not all bad, it was something he could listen to in an amateur club and not walk away disappointed. James was unable to place the song or who had originally sung it, but it sounded like something old; not this music that runners listened to nowadays, all hard instrumentals with the singer screaming into his mic. A peacock, that's what James was reminded of by the man. And now, he was trying to peacock up the netrunner Blossom. As long as business was done, James did not much care what kind of relationships were started.

With his tune finished, Vegas started in on his thoughts, ",..for any leads from the seedier side of life." He did a little bit of shuffling towards the door while continuing to hum the song he had been singing before.

James listened and observed as he was prone to do. His near photographic memory storing everything away for later. He was not usually rash to action, considering the implications of what his choices may bring. This was the first real job offer that he had had in some time though, something that would do more than just ‘pay his bills'. Perhaps, just perhaps, this would get his name out there for a bit something bigger. No time to second guess things now.

"So whata say Mathis, up to a little night life?" Casino called him out. Just moments ago, the man was disagreeing with him on not wanting to pay for the entire group's transpo. He could not help but ponder at the man's motive now. Was he truly welcome? Or did the man just want to keep him in arm's reach out of distrust? (OOC: Not sure how this works, what would amount to a sense motive check on a d20 system, and how it would work against another player) He was not the most handy in a fight, but he might be able to pick up something that the other two might miss. His mind tended to pick up a bit more than others.

Vegas was an Edgerunner, or else had gained the trust of an enclave, and he trusted Vegas. Perhaps he could give him a chance. Three would be safer than two, and a gang could pack just as much heat an armed Corpo security force. "I suppose I could run with you, Casino. That oldcybe might croak on you, and then where'd you be. Besides, expecting trouble?" The smirk at the quip on the runner he knew would be noticed. James did not much care though. The gear in his bag would help the Bartholemew group out if they ran into security lock issues, but he was not going to trust out a thousand eb of gear to people he had just met though.

"Doc can pose as a father just as well as I can."

Reply is up and true to my character. He's never really had anybody to trust. Even those within his own altcult have put a bullet in his chest, literally. He has lost all those he's ever cared for. This tends to make a guy look out for himself.

Subject: Concerns

James thought about Casino's concerns for a moment before responding, "Well friend, if I may call you that Mr Casino, I have been brought up that each person provides their way. I will not ask you to pay for my tools or ammo. If you are worried about me ditchin' out on the run, then I most likely wouldn't even be here. A runner with a bad name aint gonna get a next job.

"My main concern is I've got bills to pay, and if we decide we're not able obtain the kid, then this job only pays 5 c's. Transpo, whether public or private for a group this size could cut into that a decent chunk. Now, if you don't have the cash up front, then I'm sure something can be worked out. Cause if we don't even get the info on the boy, then no pay day."

He was not trying to do anything the sort of blackmail, but James would not pay the way for everybody here. All his bills for the moment were paid, but it was just a few weeks before his agent service was due. He needed the cash probably just as bad as anybody else here.

While the two bickered about who would take charge, Casino took action and said how things were going to be. He did not wait for them to settle their discussions. James did not care much who took the lead, he would follow any sensible plan really.

"You two may take a page out of this un's book," James said to Glahn and Blossom while referring to Vegas. "Mr. Glahn, this aint no open road. May not get those open shot you're used to past 300m. And dunno how well that old tech going to carry you here in night city. Close quarters, this little uzi here chambered in a .45 can do a bit of damage within 50m." James said that last bit while patting his hidden smg with the suppressor poking a bit past the lower edge of his jacket.
"If we wanting to be taking public transit. I've got the credchip account that can get us on it. You pay me in your cash dollars and I will use my credchip to get you on."

James was just hear for a job, he would keep this muscleheads gear going and even get the crew past the odd lock if need be. "I will let you soldier boys figure out your plan on all this. I'm just here to make sure the gear keeps going ‘til the job is done."

(OOC: I know it is short but wanted to get something end before another update.)

I've got one. made sure to take the $20 monthly fee for a month off of my starting dough as well. SO if the team is carrying cash, guess I could front for bus or tram tickets and get reimbursed. And if we are talking about remaining funds to get us through the game, my toon has got about 250eb remaining but has his own water purifier and kibble to keep him running.

Topic: Flesh & Blood - A Night City Adventure
Subject: Intro

James woke with a slight start as an alarm resounded through his ears, the proximity alarm of his agent being sent directly to his auditory link. His eyes sprang open to a man just about a meter away, the distance he had set his alarm to go off at. He had a knife in hand, approaching quietly with it drawn out. Though the lighting on the monorail was dim, James could see clear as day, his vision enhancements amplifying the ambient light. The young edgerunner pulled his Uzi Miniauto free of the sleeping bag that covered his sleeping form. James's smartgun link instantly registered that he had grasped the weapon, and a targeting reticle came into his field of visions to tell him where the bullets should hit. A suppressor would muffle the noise of the weapon firing if he needed to use it. Though he had no experience in an actual fight, it would not really matter at this close of range. This was not to be the easy score that the man thought it would be.

"You might want to reconsider this move, friend," the words came out of his mouth with surprisingly no shakiness or nervousness. James knew that he was not an intimidating person. One did not need to be real intimidating though when you were sitting behind a full auto weapon that could potentially riddle you full of holes. "Book it before you get lit up."

The man hesitated amount before backing off and then going further down into the monorail. James let loose a slight breath of release as he was once more left alone this late at night on the train as it wound its way through night city. A chirping through his phone splice let him know that he had a new message. Letting go of his Uzi and pulling his agent from his pocket, James quickly input his passcode and the device went to his homescreen. The message icon had a small one popping up from it, but at least it was something. So hard to get any work, the thought came through his mind. He had a score to settle and would not be safe until he did. To do so, he needed the skills and resources to settle the score. And for that, he needed work.

Starlight. The name of the sender. It was not a handle that he knew, but maybe his name had gotten around from previous work. James could only hope that they had heard of him through his handle and not his actual name. Fixer was the nickname given to him by Brayden, the old solo that had taken him in like if he was his own son. Plus, he did not need Narya to hear his name and know that he had not been zeroed out as she had planned. That is probably the one thing keeping him alive these last several months. That and keeping mobile. He just had to keep moving so that she did not know where he was. At least her actions had lost her access the enclaves, that was a major plus in his book for him. Not that it would keep her out if she drafted in the wake of another edgerunner. Best bet was to keep doing what he was doing and stay on the move, working to pay the necessities, and stay breathing.

Opening up the message, simple words popped up on the screen. 'Quick Run - Quick Cash - Interested?' After shooting back a quick affirmative, a second message came back to him.

'Meet - 11:30 PM Tonight - Night City Integrate | Undercity | OceanZone - x0002334 y 00000021 - Look for Gray Samurai'.

James checked his position right quick on his agent and how quickly he could get there using public transit. He would not be able to get there on time. Being late to a meet was never a good thing, but it would be better to let them know then just to walk in like that. '1130 no good. Be there ASAP.'

With that lest message broadcasted out, James slipped his agent back into his coat pocket.rnrn His sleeping bag was a bit aged, a pale and faded blue, but still holding it together and perfectly functional even if he just used it as a blanket. It did not take long get it rolled back up and strapped securely in a small roll. A quick inventory showed everything still in his ruck, an old leather pack of a light brown and one large main packet with a handful of smaller pockets on the outside. There were his tools, his spare ammo, extra clothing, his food, and his water bottles on the outside. James snapped shut the main pouch, slipped his now rolled up sleeping bag through the straps on top and cinched them down. A quick heft brought the pack to its normal position, James quickly shifting it a bit to improve the balance out the weight. A last inspection of his Uzi, pulling the charging slide back a bit, saw a round still in the chamber, ready to fire. It would have been bad if it had been otherwise, the situation with the knifer just a handful of minutes ago could have turned out completely different if that had been the case.

He was dressed in olive drab trousers and Kevlar jacket, black boots and short-sleeved shirt, and the grey hood of his jacket pulled up into place along with the black beanie. A pair of mirrorshades covered James's deep blue eyes, his coal black hair hid beneath hood and beanie. There was not much muscle on the slim man's body; he was lean with an average build, not athletic. He tried to keep hidden the fact that he was still kicking it out on the streets. James kept his Uzi tucked beneath his right shoulder with his magazines under the opposite side. His Avenger was holstered in an inner waistband holster on his right hip. Concealability is something he attempted his both of his firearms. It was best to not show everybody that he was packing and possibly draw attention and conflict to him.

The monorail stopped at his destination after a short bit. James's agent showed that he needed his mask, and the man pulled it up over his face, letting the filter do its job. The breathable air was still a bit tasteful of the pollution in the undercity, but at least it was clean enough to breathe through the device. He stepped out of the monorail and gave a quick glance; the platform was deserted this late at night. His agent told him the time was 2335, the meet had started five minutes ago. He knew was going to be late but had hoped to not make it real late. Benefactors did not care for late runners, and he knew people that had lost jobs due to the fact they had run late to a meeting.

The cool air felt good as the young runner took a brisk walk to the coordinates he had been given. Nearly a dozen boosters hung out by the entrance of an alley next to a pair of buildings. They all wore grey battle masks fixed into visages that were not at all pleasant to look at. A sword of some sorts hung on their back with SMGs in their arms. James did not care to know if they knew how to use what they were packing and planned on not finding out. They all wore a variety of military style clothing. Perhaps these were the samurai fellows that he was told to look for. He would not know unless he asked.

"Good evening, friends," the statement came out of his mouth in a collected manner. "Y'all know a starlight by any chance? I was told to show up here for some work."

A couple of the boosters glanced at each other, but James could not tell the look upon their faces due to their masks. One of those two grunted and shrugged for him to follow. It was not that great of looking of a place to be in. A layer of water coated the floors, but it was close to the ocean. He was glad now that he kept his guns oiled up, nobody like rust getting into a place where it should not be and locking up things that needed to be moving. (OOC: I remember a time training down by san diego, didn't have my 240 lubed up enough and the rust getting up in there. Had to break the charging handle loose. Definitely something you want to learn in training and not when it is the real deal.) The workers kept their eyes averted as the small entourage took him further into the building. They seemed as if they did not care to know the big boss's goings on. James wrinkled up his nose at the smell of the fish. He did not care too much for it himself and was glad his mask filtered out what it could. James was left standing before another small group of the boosters, the other two turned to go back to their post outside. One of the four opened the door, and James calmly strolled inside the next room.

James scanned the room and took in its occupants. There were six other occupants, one of them most likely the benefactor's representative. He spotted three other edgerunners. Two of them wore bracers that he noticed up front with one of those and another having crescent moon shapes next to their eyes that spoke of optic splices (correct me if I'm wrong please and don't know if James will have the same or not; said that optic splices could take the form of like contact lenses in the book). One that he did not care for too much off the bat was dressed in expensive style clothing that spoke of a middle but doubtedly upper level edgerunner if he was pulling work down here. He dressed flashy, possibly trying to pull off some look that he identified with. The second man wore just a .44 at his waist on the utility belt but wore black fatigues with a black bag slung over his left shoulder and a battle mask sitting on top of his head. James could appreciate the mask; anonymity was sometimes needed when pulling jobs that could make enemies. The last of the three was a beauty, Asian descent. Her height was matched with his with the heels she had on her boots. James did not know how he felt about operating in heels, figuring they would be a bit hard to run in if they had to bail rather rapidly. She must rather like to do things rather closely, noting the long blade on her hip and the shottie tucked beneath her arm.

His vision ran over the fellow that looked like he might be out of some vid. The man sported an old tech visor and no other cybe that James could see offhand, perhaps he like to keep it concealed so that others would think of him as less of a threat. He could see the submachinegun beneath the man's trench coat but could not make the model. The last man in the room appeared to be appeared to be a nomad, possibly a roller. He could respect working with one of them with the knowledge that he would most likely not ditch out on the run. The final member of the room was a short petite little thing with another pair of heeled boots. Her outfit was fairly colorful and on her right thigh sat a fully custom pistol that was most likely beyond James's humble talents to work up. She was a bit of a looker though.

"Team," Starlight intones with a slight derisive tone. "Meet Mathis."

James did not miss the woman's tone. He figured the woman was the benefactor's woman. He pulled down his mask and spoke up, "Better late than never, darling. You're the one that messaged me. Was a bit too far out to make it on your timeline. Now, my name's Mathis but the handle's Fixer. I'd prefer to keep my name off the streets if that aint gonna be a problem.

"Now, if one of yuns could let me know what the job entails, I'd be a tad appreciative." (OOC: assuming somebody lets him transfer the data to his agent) James looked at the details a bit as the rest deliberated the next move. (OOC: If anybody interacts with him, will edit the post from here.)

"Well," Starlight quips. "It's about time. This is the last of your team. This is Echo.

"Now that you;re all here and getting along, I'll be taking my leave. The night is young, and there's work to be done. You've my contact info if you need to reach me, chombattas. Upload your status on the hour, every hour, and keep me informed so that I can keep Saint Nick in the loop. Au revoir, my pretties."

James takes in the latest arrival. It appeared to be another nomad styled runner. She may or may not have been from the roller state as well. An extra glance was spent to take in the woman's features. She was good looking, but it was more of a natural beauty than a manufactured one, like your classic girl next door features. "Save the best for last?" he addressed the new comer in a questioningly manner. The three stones embedded on each check especially caught him attention.

(OOC: Okay, got this up and heading to bed. Will add a bit more to it as I get a git more down time.)

Ok, a couple of them. Working on some stuff for an introductory post on the assumption that brom may just have me be a late arrival to the meeting. Question one, if I have an auditory splice, am I able to link my agent's audio to sound directly into my ears. Don't think it'd be that far off seeing as I have hearing aids that link with Bluetooth to my phone currently. Question 2, what kind of public transit is available in the undercity? Bus? Subwayish train? Etc?

Okay, that's it for now. Thanks for any responses.

Hey Brom, I remember the cyberpunk game you ran long ago and would be interested if you still have a slot open.

Topic: Final Fantasy: Crimson Falcons
Subject: And Combat.

The party had been introduced to the foreman of the lumber mill as they arrived at the place. He gave them all a quick rundown of the happenings as they arrived. Tuman still did not believe that the insects could get to be near as big as what they were saying, but he perhaps would see for himself soon enough.

The allies of the crimson falcons move forward into the tress. Tuman took up a place in the middle of the party, so he could be protected by his ‘allies'.

It was not long before they could hear the insects and one rushed forward towards the group. Big may have been a bit of an understatement as this insect was about the size of the young man. Acting as quickly as he could, Tuman kicked into what he knew.

"Elwyss go," he spoke as his fairy flew out of its protected pocket and into the air. He had it fly around the bee and attempt to shoot it with its bow.
Tuman himself slipped into a light arts trance and lifted his grimoire up in his hands. His voice put power to the words that he read. He could feel the power take ahold of him.

(OOC: Okay, elwyss +3 to attack with her shortbow for 1d2 damage. Using grimoire w/ light arts +1 to hit on ranged touch attack 1d4+4 damage)

Bees. Definitely not something that Tuman had in mind that he would be fighting when joining a free company, a glorified band of mercenaries. Not of the great tales started off with the heroes fighting bees. All tales had a beginning though, and though this was not the beginning of his, it would be a dull start to a new chapter. A small smile crossed his face at the thought of bashing a bee to mush.

"After all, how big can a bee get?" he posed the question as his newfound ‘companions' began to rise from the table.

"Bees, huh," the large Al Bhed spoke up, "Gil's gil, 'suppose, right? Might as well go make some." And with that, the man left after the canine looking man.

Next to rise was the archer and woodsman. He grabbed some food before posing his question, "Anything we should talk about before meeting up at the gate?"

"Just try to keep their stingers out of me," the young scholar spoke with a slight grin. He spoke a word underneath his breath as he channeled a bit of energy into the left breast of his robes. "Let's go, Elwyss."

With that the fairy who was his familiar and companion flew down into the small pocket that inside his robe and began to rest comfortably. Tuman gathered up his pack and strode out of the room.
