She listened as Draven described his plan.

"It would indeed make sense to separate the two, but I shall not let you go alone. You need not fight on your own while I am here," Alyssia spoke, hoping her words sunk into the stubborn man's skull.

Perhaps she could change the way the man thought about those that would be his companions.

Alyssia watched as Thondrek appeared from the front door of the tower, the bladesinger's spell expiring to and making him visisble once more.

After her khord friend's description of what lay in the tower the bladesinger spoke, "We cannot be certain there are no survivors. There might still be information to be found, and indeed, those two bears need to be put out of our misery. I’m going to enter the tower, but I cannot ask you to join me. If you do, it will speak for your bravery and I will be eternally grateful. But you do realize these are no normal bears. I have heard stories of this affliction, and if they were able to lay down a tower full of wizards…. you get my point. Are you with me?”

"If the Mistress is willing," Alyssia spoke up in kind, "Then I shall make it through this tower alive, but I will never turn down a chance to better the light."

Alyssia stood in her place as she awaited the replies of the others. Her eyes spoke of the determination that was anchored into her soul.

He paid rapt attention to every word of the history of the forming of the barrens that came from the Ivae prince's mouth. It was sad what others could bring themselves to do to one another and all over something that was not rightly theirs to begin with. If it was meant for them to have magic, then the gods would have blessed them with it like they had the dragons. Magic pulled from the pools of mana, the basic essence of life in his opinion, could not truly be controlled and was bound to have its consequences.

Magic born from the spark within, that was another story entirely. Vesper's magic was his own, not 'borrowed' from the world around him. This was who he was born to be, not because he had decided that he should be better than others and steal his way to get there. No, the gods had just made him better, had given him the spark that ignited his soul to wield magic. The borrowed magic allowed others to wield a larger variety of power, as such the Ivae had taught him, but the spark of sorcery had its own power that most thought too poorly of.

He had listened to their pitter=patter long enough. Vesper rose to his feet with a little difficulty as pain rippled through his right leg. The magus swore that the athritis from his childhood accident was determined to get the best of him, but after a decade and a half, he had grown much used to it The wound would slow him down a tad, but if these others wished for his aid, then they would have to learn to keep pace with his stride.

Robes of a faded red color, wool with its dye having bled out from age, hid his other clothing for the most part. Most believed wrongly of him from his appearance, saying that he appeared the part of a haggard commoner with a bit of an exotic appearance. Of course he looked different, all of those from the steppes did with their darker skin along with dark hair and dark eyes. Some even went as far to call them savages, but atleast among his people he did not have to worry about the deceit and treachery that seemed to spread like a wildfire among the other kingdoms of man.

Vesper use his staff for a slight bit of support as he stood, "If none of us have anything further to say. We might as well set ourselves upon the road."

It just hit her, how she had seen magical auras before. If magical aura prevented one from entering this tower, then perhaps she could find a way in that nobody had noticed before and save the companions some trouble. Or if her khord companion did not manage to come through, then maybe her insight would be needed.

With a slight prayer whispered beneath her lips, her sight took on another spectrum of vision.

(OOC: gonna cast detect magic. Gonna smack self in head for not thinking of it earlier.)

Subject: Leave no man.

Leave no man. Either we all return or none. This is one of the precepts that guided the Altressians in their everyday lives. Arthass regretted that he would not be able to give those that had fallen of the side of the cliff a proper burial. The burden did not lay so lightly upon his shoulders, but it was his as their commander. Death by the executioner would have been so much easier. But then again, when did he enjoy taking the easy route?

Arthass heard Garbad, his old friend, cry out, "“We need to help him, he’ll die out there alone.”

“So leave him he’s not one of us” Came the reply from more than one Altressian. “Yeah just leave him, he’ll last long enough we can start climbing outta here.”

"He is one of us now. He has stood and fought alongside us and we leave nobody to die alone. For strength and honor!" This was his cry upon this field of battle as Garbad broke free and attempted to draw the attention away from Alexander.

The shield wall surged forward to surround the beast that stood in front of them and the shortblades pierced into the hide of the monster. Protect the man beside you, from thigh to shoulder. This is how our phalanx works. One weak point, and it is little more than nothing. Oh how these lessons had been drilled into his head.

His patience was tested as he did not want to leave the warrior that had so patiently guided them to die alone. Yet he needed more warriors to do more than we was doing now. Arthass knew he needed to think quickly if he was to get as many out of this situation alive as he possibly could.

(OOC: Hopefully, you mad Garbad either favored soul or cleric with the phalanx fighting feat as I asked. If you did, then I am going to try and move what men I can to accompany Garbad and get Alexander some needed healing. If the Altressians leave threatened areas, they are gonna make withdraw actions so as not to provoke Attacks of Oppurtunity. Also, let us make full use of our flanking benefits.)

Subject: save those whom you can

Cold, it was extremely cold here, but they were used to it and knew how to climb mountain faces. Just like back home. This thought was not the first and most likely would not be the last. It had been several months since his army's, if it could be called that now, defeat, several months for them to find some other glorious battle. None had come, and it looked as if though they may never find one.

Arthass looked into the eyes of the man nearest to him, the pale blue almost seeming a gray. He looked into them with a certain confidence that said they were going to make it through these trying times. There were all a single entity, had been trained as such, and needed to work together as such until the gods decided that they were no longer worthy of this world. And even then, they were certain they would fight the of those that ruled the heavens, now different so far from home.

The man looked down at the golden ring with the carved dragon that sat on the mid-finger of his left hand, given to him with his first command. It sustained him while his men suffered thirst and hunger, and a certain weakness followed it. A pain cut through his spirit at seeing them all suffer so while he could do nothing for them.

"Save as many as you can. Mourn those you cant." This was the advice given to him so long ago, but Arthass would not give in to the hopelessness. He would save them all. They had come so far together and would make to the glorious battle that awaited them in this place called Trice.

Arthass's heart stirred as the ground beneath him shook and caused his shield to rattle. It reminded so much of the tremors that ran through the mountains back home. A clamor ran through the men and women that had followed him, worry filling their voices. Morale was low, but he had managed to keep them together thus far.

The Dragons scattered as something or things rose from the ground beneath them. He truly doubted that any one individual got a good look at what caused them to break their huddle, where they had been protected against the cold. As he turned around and got a true look at the beasts, his heart rose up in his chest. Never had Arthass seen the likes of these creatures, never had he imagined anything like them.

Their were appearance was near enough to the creatures that he had seen upon crossing that great sea, except these ones had legs. Their hide looked leathery and tough, but he would see how well it stood up against a good phalanx unit looking to bring it down. Like a pack of wolves looking to bring down the elk. Little bites at a time. It is just that these are looking to bite back.

"To arms! Form up! Work together or die alone! Surround them in groups of three. Protect yourselves and those that stand with you and may whatever gods call this land home be with us."

This is how he knew to fight, working with those that he had been raised as a family with. Now he would see what the beasts of this land were capable of.

(OOC: Gonna take full advantage of the pahalanx fighting feat, which all of the followers should have, to form a shield wall. Using heavy shields and light weapons grant +3 AC and +1 to Ref saves. Had so conveniently fogotten your darker side Kaelyn.)

I know that. Was just saying that the Field Dress Uniforms are changing to blue so that it cuts the cost of having to redo uniforms and issuing them and such, cause most (or all?) have dress blues for formal occasions. It is now just gonna be the blues, mandatory by 2011 I do believe. I have the date in a soldier's almanac that is back in the house. But humbug, I'll let you have your lease. .

The army's olive green will not be in effect come 2029, they are going back to the blues as field uniforms, and whoever has not noticed the Battle Dress Uniforms are now digitalized like the Marines, but with a different color pattern. Combat Boots that are standardly worn are the snadish brown ones, so no more shining just a scrubbing the dirt and stuff off. Rangers do have the option of wearing a Tan beret instead of the BDU or Garrison cap. Also, military name tages don't have first initials that I have seen.

Physical description: Arthass is a man that loks to be bred for battle. He has not an ounce of spare fat on his body that comes from long days of marching, drills or just plain doing what he does best, killing. A curved scar runs at what could be a forty-five degree angle from his chin to temple on the left side of his face, coming from an enemy spear that made its way beneath his helm. His nose is slightly flat and crooked in a few points from its time of being broken a fair share. A simple tattoo dons his right forearm in the shape of a serpentine dragon, the same tattoo that any of his fellow Altressian soldiers would also bear if their forearm was bared.

His armor is black as is his trousers, boots, and thick cloak. He wears a white tunic. On his shield is painted a silver dragon and it is also engraved into the right breast of his cuirass. A white plume running from front to rear decorates his helm and sets him aside as an officer. Blue eyes are cold and nearly devoid of emotion while his black hair is cut nearly to the scalp.

Blood, just like so long ago, poured its way from the window sill and down the walls of stone. A sense of sickness washed through the woman as she took in the sight. Alyssia felt that she would never get used to the violence that seemed to be following everywhere she went. Or just perhaps, it was she that followed it.

Swift feet took her to the door of the tower, focusing her intent on the slabs of wood that now stood before her. Her vision intensified on it and she could pick out every grain that composed whatever wood made it up. She was determined to get to those that may now need her help. Magic surged forth from her fingertips, the very are now charged with the electricity that passed through it, the smell of ozone reaching her nose.

(OOC: gonna cast lightning bolt on the door, didn't think magic missile would even come close to bringing it down. If her spell dont work, Alyssia is gonna cry out to those of a more physical stature to try and break it down. i.e. Draven, Thondrek and Geim)

alrighty, the xtra +2 comes from shield specialization(Hvy Steel); I do believe the heavy steel shield can be used with shield wall, a friend has that book, do believe it is in complete warrior. Also, my char history isn't done but Arthass is from another continent. Him and the surviving members of his company were given a choice when they were defeated when Altress was conquered by Verdas, execution or banishment.

Now, they were sent out to sea on a vessel guided by magic along with the rest that chose exile. They do not know if they are in same plane but another realm or in another world entirely. Arthass lead the remnant of his battered company. Most will be soldiers, but one or two would be a priest or mage.

As per the item familiar, it looks like I forgot what skills I wanted to put into it. Also, the special ab I took for it was Increased Sapience.

Its Alignment is Lawful Neutral
Skills: Knowledge (Mil Tactics) 7 ranks; Intimidate 7 ranks
Bonus: +4 Diplomacy
-- Ego: ?

Hopefully this answers those questions of yours.

Story: Born in the city of Krath in the Nation of Altress, Arthass was destined to be a warrior just as every other first born child, male or female, was. At the age of seven, he was taken away from his family and was never allowed to see them again, his surname stripped from him. The Altressian Army was never the realm's largers, but its soldiers were said to be some of the best.

Arthass grew up in a world where he was surrounded only be his brothers-in-arms to be. Loneliness and solitude pulled at his spirit, his ideals of family and hearth would forever be no more. He was taught to fight for his food, or else he would not eat. Without the ability to fight, others would have taken it from him. Arthass learned to never show his true skill, else others would pounce upon him in a wave of outnumbering foes, striking from among them the one the feared most.

At the age of twelve, the Brothers were no longer allowed to prey upon each other. Discipline was enforced, rigid teachings now showing them that they needed to work together as a single, coherent unit. Their main weapons were to be shield and spear. A shortblade also worked well with their shield wall tactics. A wall of shields protected the Altressian Dragons as archers and mages threw spell and arrow into the enemy ranks.

Arthass saw his first battle at the age of sixteen, one of many border sorties against the Verdasians, their neighboring giant. He had taken a life for the first time that day and saw the Altressian motto put into effect for the first time as well. "No mercy, no prisoners." This is what had been instilled into those that had fought, this is what they showed to those that tried to took their nation from them.

For the next six years, the Dragons fought in the twin passes that were the lone way through the mountains that made up the souther border of Altress. Arthass worked his way up the chain of command as he became bloody and bruised, scarred and tempered in the forge known as battle. He saw companions fall, brothers and sisters pass on to not take another breath. The Verdasians had made an empire for themselves beyond the mountains that protected Altress, and were trying to force the small pocket of resistance into submission.

Arthass can still remember those last two weeks clearly as the two centuries that remained within the western pass was closed in on both sides. The eastern pass had fallen and with it the security of their nation and the life of their king. Supplies had stopped coming and they were all put on half rations. Being able to keep their enemy at bay by standing between five and ten men abreast under the conditions of the pass. Their shield walls held.

At the end of the second week of constant battle, less than fifty men remained to hold the lines. All were weary and fatigued from the fighting and less than ideal rupply condition. Arthass was there on the front line with the seven remaining of his men, that were his original command. So many of the officers had been lost that now all of the squads and companies were intermingled.

Verdasian calvary came down at them hard and managed for the first time that he had seen to break through their shield wall. The Dragon was knocked prone and could feel the trampling of the hooves as they knocked into him and occasionally over the soldier. His armor and shield held up, but he had been battered senseless. Arthass had not the energy to fight back when his assailants came and bound his hands behind his back and gagged him with a dirty cloth.

Given the choice of execution or banishment from the lands, the Verdasians not wanting a reminder of those who had so successfully resisted them, Arthass chose to be banished. A number of his men chose to follow him, and they left from the coast of Verdas on a ship that had been charged to take them away. Their store of rations never seemed to deplete and what remained of the troops of the Western Pass landed upon a foreign land. Their armor now repaired and their black cloaks mended, the company made their way to make contact with those that called this land home.

Update: Char history done, and I just need to put it a description and personality.

So it was that Alyssia watched as Draven trailed off from the city. Mayhap this was her chance to do more than just tail after him, mayhap this is where things could be going rightly for her attempts to heal his soul. Without appearing to hurried, the woman turned and followed Draven. She could not be for certain how long their other companion would take in the Syl city, and this was her chance to be alone with the one that had eluded her thus far.

"What is it that truly bothers you?" Alyssia asked of him as she came up to his side.

(backposting conversation)

-----

So and here they were yet again after another day of travel. A tower stood before the companions with a syl warrior banging upon its doors. She only stood and watched as she screamed her tirade at the place's occupant or occupants, whichever it was.

The anger was clear on the bladesinger's face.

" Hey there, whats going on? Seems like who ever is up there doesnt wanna come out. Whatcha need help with?"

Loda watched as Gothard trotted up next to her, and sat down, looking at the horse, and the woman.

" And please, dont mind Gothard, he's as friendly as can be."

"What may we help you with? I'm sure anyone of would do so, except for maybe Draven," she called out to the woman.

It had been a miserable second and third day. True, Alyssia did not suffer the normal pangs of hunger that accompanied a normal individual, but she suredly did not like being wet either. So as she her companions dried out, the woman attempted to look as cheery and brightful as possible. But all of their happiness seemed to log back down once again as they came to the gates of a Sylvari city.

Even Malius, brethren of the people that lived in the Syl's city, was looked at in a manner that was unwelcoming.

Alyssia let her companions explain their situation, not much for conversation at the moment. But she could no handle it any longer when the guards became rude with them.

"So you have had contact with one of the diseased creatures! Who says your animals aren't infected? We cannot allow the wildlife in this city to have possible contact. So far we've had no incidents and we intend to keep things that way! I tell you once more: You are welcome, but your animals are not."

Alyssia spoke in a calm manner bur firmful with the guards, "Do you speak to all visitors in this manner. I am a servant of Lysora and can put witness to the fact that these are common animals. They have none of the characteristics of the diseased and mutated. Now, what say you?"

"I sometimes wish the same, priestess." Brushing by her, Draven strode towards the forest.

Alyssia was slightly hurt at the rebuff but just let her eyes go down slightly towards the ground instead of chasing after the man. Why he never let anyone close to him, she would perhaps never know. The goddess knew she had done nearly everything except for perhaps offer to share the man's bed. She had only been with one man and that had been back before when she had been the humble apprentice of her village's healer. Now that she thought on it, it had been near four years since the day she had made the bargain with Lysora

A woman appears befora Alhandra as she weeps over the now still form of Gerard, his breathing shallow and his heart near to stopping. She and Kriath had been able to do nothing for her bethrothed's wound, to stop the blood from flowing from his body. Alhandra was certain that her love was to die.

"Who are you?" was all that Alhandra was able to get out between stifling her weeping.

The woman help up a rose, its petals seeming to pulse as a beating heart. Her robes, white as a fresh winter's snow, hung to the ground and yet did not seem to become soiled. Sparkling, clear blue eys seemed to gleam with what little light was left in the room. Pure white hair hung about the woman's shoulders and further, yet the woman was not old but had a very youthful appearance except for her eyes. There was wisdom in them, a weight that seemed to weight down her appearance of innocence.

"You know me, daughter. I can heal him, this man that you love. But for me to do so, you can no longer ignore my calling to you. I can do this for you, but you can no longer live the life you know. Either way, you are to give him up forever."

"I'll do anything you ask."

Lysora's voice echoed through her mind, "Then it is done."

She knew that it hadn't been the goddess to heal her love, but herself that had channeled the power that the goddes had granted her. Why could she not have just lived that normal life, why had the village had to have to come under the raid of those who would thieve from others? Alyssia knew that she would perhaps never know the answers to her questions, but knew what it took to heal.

Love. It was one word, simple enough. She would have to love, to give and share all that she was, to sacrifice her heart to whomever she truly reached out to. Alyssia knew that she would have to love as she had not done since she had stopped being the huble healer known as Alhandra. She would have to love Draven to truly mend his broken heart and spirit and except the pain that came with it.

As tears flowed from her eyes, Alyssia left the company of the celebration to keep her own company for the evening.
