Oh you roll AC. So are you rollin it like in the DMG? Armour bonuses + roll? Are we allowed to take 10 on those?

Nope

You can't take 10 in strenuous situations like combat

And yes, I'm doing it as d20 + [applicable bonuses]

Just as an aside, if combat is strenuous, when would you need an AC check that you could take ten on? I can't think of any rofl.

Sib-kun had emailed me the question of where the eyes remain.

Two of the six remain at the 'boundary', watching the group, and for some unexplained reason cannot pass to continue the pursuit. The other four, as can be guessed, have gone back to finish off the fallen npcs.
