Can we get a DM call on the basilisk blood? As written in the description it "turns a creature to stone". There is no mention of size effected and since a basilisk turns creatures of any size to stone I read it as it would effect the dragon completely. Granted there is a saving throw but we have 4 doses so it would be our best option at the moment.

Distance
That is a long way. Do we want to get closer? How quickly? Roan on its back, neck, head with a vorpal blade sounds like his best bet to do anything. Then again, without called shots being worth something I'm not sure how much damage he can do since Tann seems unlikely to let him decapitate the thing. But from a distance he can't do anything. If he flies towards it after we have launched an attack he seems like a sitting duck. But maybe a decoy duck.
So, do we wait a round or 3 for them to get up to it? Or launch attacks now?
Do we assume the veil is of some use against a beast this magical? Or do we give it up and scatter to avoid all getting caught in a massive breath weapon or magical attack?

Hiding.....
Well with a Dragon this old and big it most likely can see through our veil and any invisible spell. Its scenes are just too keen.
As for turning it to stone, how would we get the heart then?
It may have magic resistance too so some of our spells may fail.
We need Thor in person to battle this thing. Keeper how's your deity calling ability?
Let's keep in-game RPing until the we work out an attack or the attack turns on us. Moving player knowledge to character knowledge might have some benefits.
Has everyone read up on dragons and Red dragons in the monster manual? There is knowledge there that our characters would know. Also maybe we can pulling knowledge for Allanan with questions, he dos have better Dragon knowledge.

??????
So it would die when turned to stone and then stay dead when turned to flesh?

It would if the dead Dragon is broken in a way that would not allow it to live when turned back to flesh. Something like it's head broken off.

The Blood
You don't know, best thing I can tell you is to use it and go from there. As for size it affects, if you read the Basilisks description, its eyes turn creatures to stone no matter the size. As for its blood again all I can say is use it and see.
Remember this dragon is huge about the size of a United States supercarrier and a half. The dragons in its claws are mature adults so consider this dragon even older and most likely larger then even a Great Wyrm. It's magic resistance will be high as well as having a damn good AC.
As for Veil, yeah that's not gonna help at all
Best thing is read the General Description for Dragons in the MM. Except for its older age, everything is the same.

Prepare
I think we need to heal and buff before we attack. This looks like it will be a hard fight, let the beholders bat at it a few more rounds while we make ourselves ready.

Plan
We need to use this time to get in position for whatever it is we want to do. So, what is that? Do we need to heal?
Roan - Fly up with a vorpal blade? Get in position?
Lothor - Use the Basilisks blood - seems unlikely to work but is probably a better chance than a sword or bow.
Talca - All he really has is a bow. I suppose he could also try the blood.
The blood would mean Lothor also needs to get close enough to throw it.

Remember this
Dragon Senses: All dragons have excellent senses of sight, smell, and hearing. Their enhanced senses enable them to detect all invisible objects and creatures (including creatures or items hidden in darkness or fog) within a radius equal to 10 feet times their age category. All dragons possess a natural clairaudience ability with respect to their lairs; the range is 20 feet per age category. The dragon must concentrate on a specific section within its lair or surrounding area to hear what is going on.
Some dragons are able to communicate telepathically with any intelligent creature. The percentage chance for a dragon to speak is based on its Intelligence and age category. Refer to individual descriptions for percentages.
---------------------------------------------
This Dragon will know the minute you do something. For the moment he does not sense you, as your on the edge of his sense range without concentrating, and he is dealing with his captors who he is quite pissed at. Once you attack or do anything other then prep and watch you will have 1/2 to 1 rd before he possibly attacks back.
As to why they kept him frozen that is in and of itself another mystery perhaps worth uncovering
Or not

What, no challenge???
Well, that sounds easy enough . . .
He knows everything we do, he is the size of a carrier, he is a dragon with a abilities based on his age category, which almost certainly is something that makes "ancient" seem akin to "toddler." No problem. Lets just call it a 'gimmie' and move on to getting the heart.
I have been wondering why the beholders had it imprisoned (and how they got it in the first place) but that seemed to be an issue of secondary importance to, you know, death.

Asked For Help.....
I posed the question on how to kill this dragon on a 2e Facebook site.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/77802512083/?ref=bookmarks
There are a lot joke replies but a few interesting thought.
Take a look if you are on facebook and let me know what you think.
I may try some other sites too. By Thursday or Friday we should really start fleshing out the attack. Turning it to stone, cutting off its head and then casting stone to flesh had merit. But how to pull that off?

Help
As far as I can tell I have to join the facebook group to actually see the results for your question. Guess I could do that. What did you see of interest?
