They could go together.  

If we are going to teleport, we might as well just get there directly and fully avoid overland travel. Or maybe we can set a series of teleports that would hide the final destination? Small groups of us with an additional mage that will teleport to a different final location or something along those lines. 

If the how do we travel question hasn't been answered yet, I vote for going on foot the whole way. It's safer.

Tann, with regards to equipment for battle (both arms and armour), how do we aquire new and better equipment? Do we purchase them in any armouries we encounter in-game? I always like to have the best equipment I can get lol.

We are pretty much past buying stuff in shops.  Most new gear is found in treasures from encounters.
