Pretty sure...

...we're all still here.

I know it's been a butt-kicker of a week for several of us. (Stoopid work and having to have money to live, anyway!)

I've got a few posts in the works (a couple of them likely to be backposty kind of stuff) but I'm holding off some because I don't want to get ahead of myself. lol

still aliiiiive

The week was muuuurder! But finally Amara and I are out of the woods of software releases. Whew. So sorry about that! We are working through reading and replying, and bosses promise no more insanity... or they will get a phaser blast!

Unfortunate Tidings

Hey, all.

As you may or may not be aware, I am a member of Starfleet International Inc., considered the largest Star Trek fan organization in the world. I currently hold roughly a 4th-in-command position of the organization worldwide.

Well, today SFI had some shocking and tragic news; our Commander of SFI passed away unexpectedly this morning due to complications from an unspecified outpatient surgery. It's still a bit of a shock to write that, as this was very sudden and unexpected, and he was a good guy and a friend.

What this means organization-wise is that I will be immediately moving up to a position of greater responsibility in SFI, and it's going to require a significant investment of free time handling my new admin duties for an organization of several thousand people. It pretty much has to happen now so that there are no snags in SFI's day-to-day operations (this is unprecedented as well as tragic; SFI has never had a Commander pass away while in office in over 40 years of existence).

Thus, I am unfortunately going to have to hang up Thorson's shiny metal arm. Eol has agreed to NPC him as necessary, although I hope I can at least pop in from time to time to keep up with the story and maybe do an occasional post of my own.

My apologies to whomever I was in the midst of RP with and to whom I had upcoming RP sessions with.

Good gaming to all, and I'll be lurking when I can.

crud

Well, I've been PMing back and forth about this. This clearly makes me quite sad for my selfish interests... but Duncan, it makes me sad for you. I'm so sorry, man.

Condolensces

Duncan,

Well we havent really interacted but I can still say that I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your Friend and comrade. I know it kind of promotes you up in the organization but I'm sure you didnt want to get that promotion in this manner.

My prayers go out to the man's family and friends. Hope to see you around here sometimes.

okay

Just as a heads up, a post is coming from me shortly. I am trying to figure out what we're doing with the CEO's spot, as well.

New development

Hey again. Well, after the events of the last two days, I have now left the organization. Those in it who could make a difference have chosen not to, and it has fallen to people squabbling and arguing about non-important crap before my friend's body is even in the ground. I want no further part of it, and am honestly rather relieved to be leaving it. One must pick one's battles, and if the battle has no hope of success with the way things currently are, it makes little sense to fight it.

However, I'm not ready to resume gaming just yet. While I have no problems with being out of SFI as it is now, it was still a part of my life for many years, and my Trek fandom is in a weird place right now.

So my thought is, continue as planned to NPC or replace Thorson, and when my head is back in the game, I'll just come along somewhere as a new character.

Thanks for the words of support. I love Star Trek and always have. But when things become more about politics and less about Star Trek, or for that matter less about the passing of a fellow human being, then being a part of such a group becomes nothing but a source of disgust and disappointment.

Besides, one doesn't need a fan club to be a fan.

Ouch

I totally understand those feels. I left my fleet of almost a decade under similar circumstances, so I know it can be a huge bummer and leave a bad taste in the mouth. Take the time you need, you rock, we'll be here.

All hugs and care Duncan. Don't talk to any strange Lofwyrs!

Fluff/momentum post coming soon

I figure I'll try to toss a fluffy post for Mathias up by the end of the day tomorrow to keep some the momentum up. Also I haven't posted in ages and I feel bad.

Sweet!

Yana and I are working on a bit between Dr Moore and Lt Zai, also... and I have an idea or two for some other fluff posts, as well.

Now that I've caught up with last week, I might be able to catch up with this one.

The last week and a half for me at work has just been brutal, and Duncan's announcement knocked me off base.

I'll have a post up today or tomorrow, period. End of story. Yup yup.

I'm ready to get back to boldly going!
