Alright, we have finally delved into combat. Now... you'll notice I drug Tann'Talas into this to run it because well I'm terrible at running combat.
As a player, however, I can make these suggestions.
First, yes... combat posts are generally much much smaller than the rp posts that happen between combat. They generally consist of a breif appraisal of the situation and then a description of what your character is going to do about it.
If you want to work on adding some length go over your characters emotions at the situation.
How do they feel suddenly plunged into darkness?
You can also go through the chain of thoughts that bring you to your actions...

Braum looked to his left and saw that Camile was savagly attacking the gnoll that had run toward her, on his left he caught sight of Jardin fall under the gnoll that had attacked him. He decided that Jardin needed his help more and ran over to his aid.
