Subject: Heya

Hi guys! I'm on my summer vacation, should you be wondering why "that Raven-dude" hasn't said a thing for a while. The vacation is over after this week and I should be back into posting business next week. Should be. Of course work will be a hustle after three weeks, but I'll do my best to post. I'd hate to see this game die even if we're moving reeeeeaaally slow atm.

Br,

Heya all,

As the evil summertime has hit us all again and the games have all but ground to a halt due to too much free time in our hands (or final exams or whatever), I'm going to take my leave of the Inn too.

But worry ye not my dear fellow Staff members, Dungeon Masters, players, friends, innmates (and the rest if I missed someone). I'll only be gone for a bit over a week on what seems to have become our yearly trip to Germany. We were planning to head to Malta this Summer, but the Travel Agency had other plans... Or actually it had no plans... or perhaps too many plans. Whatever the case, they ran out of money and went bankrupt. So Deutschland it is once again and it's not a bad choice. Not bad at all. Right, Addy?

Therefore Tann, Almerin and Hammer, please NPC Ayreon, Marius and Danamar while I'm gone should the games miraculously will progress in the meanwhile.

Cya in a bit!

Subject: here's a little something

Marius nodded to Mylos as the Brathun sat down on the chair next to him and nodded at the food and wine before taking a mouthful from his goblet. The unlikely duo sat in silence and observed the crowd at the tavern. The place was obviously a common living room for the townsfolk as some where only chatting with friends and not drinking or eating anything. Although there was already some people at the Boar and more were coming in little by little, there was no cheerful talking or laughter to be heard. Some cast suspicious looks at the witch hunter and the gnome, but no one made a move to have a chat with them. But that was fine by Marius. The witch hunter had met the same kind of behavior towards strangers many times. It was only natural for people of a small and remote settlement to be suspicious of visitors. Yet, he couldn't help it. There was something else in the air too…

Having finished his meal, the templar poured himself another drink, leaned back and had a look at the crowd. He noticed a chord coming down the stairs and heading towards the bar. Another stranger for sure. Marius could see some of the townsfolk giving the dwarf the same look too. The newcomer ordered a drink and a meal, picked them up from the counter and turned around looking for a place to sit down. There were still a couple of empty tables, but he decided to head towards the one the Sendrian and the brathun were sitting at. The dwarf put his dishes on the table and looked at Marius: "Might I have a word with you, stranger?"

The witch hunter looked at the man for a heartbeat too long making situation almost awkward before nodding at an empty chair opposite to Mylos. The chord took a seat and turned to face Marius: , “You seem a man of sturdy stock and a hardy soul. I am looking for some hardy folk to join me on a mission, a quest, if you will. A mission for the good of these people.” He gave it a moment to sink in with the witch hunter apparently waiting for some kind of a response or reaction. He didn't get one outside Marius's attention. “You may have heard that the town has lost some of their lads these past six months. Those lost include the sons of both the mayor and the baron of these parts. It is thus far an unsolved mystery, and joy-stealing one at that, as those remaining worrying and wonder if their son might be next. It is my intention to solve the mystery and, should the gods allow, return the lads to their families, giving hope back to the people and driving out fear.”

Another pause in the speech, but the templar felt the stranger wanted to continue. Expressionless he nodded for the man to carry on. “A mission for the good of these people is motive enough for my purposes. Though I heard there may be one willing to compensate us for our efforts, should we explore this mystery. Interested in such a mission, sir?” Marius pondered the question for a moment. Money he didn't require, but having been in the town before and seeing it devoid of people was certainly something that required a closer look. The kids disappearing was definitely the work of some evil power and hence it felt like the witch hunter's duty to find out what exactly was going on.

But before Marius had time to respond, the inn's door opened once again when the local bard entered. The witch hunter would've expected something happier, but apparently the minstrel knew his crowd as most had turned to watch his performance. As the somber song died away, Marius turned to face the dwarf again. "The disappearances sound most strange indeed. And although I can't really speak for my companions, I am fairly certain we all would be keen on knowing what lies behind it all."

Subject: Let's go people!

Room for four… That's what Marius had asked for and that's what he got. He would've preferred it to be one for five people, but there was no turning Arvin around. They both knew it, so the witch hunter hadn't even bothered to try. The lad was big and strong enough to take care of himself no matter what might lurk in the dark of the forest at nights.

Having to pay up front wasn't all too uncommon for the templar. Maybe it was his looks or maybe it was the trouble he seemed to attract for some reason unknown to him. Or maybe it was something else. Whatever the case, he gladly dropped the eight pieces of gold into the barmaid's awaiting palm. The sendrian then fished out a few more and nodded at a free corner table. "I'm sure my companions wouldn't mind a warm meal and a couple of pitchers of your best wine to wash it down. Oh and why don't you give me a nice warm cup of mulled wine to drive away the chill from my bones right now."

Marius emptied the mug almost too hastily nearly burning his tongue in the process. But the spicy hot drink really did its magics to him and the witch hunter immediately felt better. Nodding his thanks to the lady behind the counter, Marius headed up the stairs to the "most luxurious room" in the house. It wasn't anything fancy, but it would do just fine. What he liked the most was the chimney in one corner of the room. It would definitely keep them warm through the night. There'd be no need for bed warmers tonight. Marius picked a bed in the corner for himself - one with a good view at both the door and the window and dropped his backpack on it.

He then opened the window and had a look outside to evaluate the ease for an uninvited guest to climb inside or for himself to drop down if need be. Satisfied with the check, Marius headed back downstairs and to the table he had reserved for their little group only to find the food and the drinks already waiting. With a very rare smile on his face, the templar sad down with his back against the wall and poured himself a goblet of wine. There was no telling what was going on at the inn, but it certainly seemed much better now than on their initial visit two days ago. Perhaps an explanation to everything would come with the morning. And even it didn't, then at least they'd get to sleep in proper beds and enjoy a nice tasty dinner.

Sorry for not being able to post, Almerin. I sincerely have loved the game so far and definitely will want to carry on playing. Work has been hell this week and not only because it's been busy. My energy has been drained by various reasons this week and currently I feel a little down. This ofc has nothing to do with the game and I hope to post during the weekend.

Sorry again, dear friend.

The fight (Danamar knew he couldn't really call it such) was over in a very short while. As the rage and hatred finally let go of the blood-covered elven ranger, he let his sword arm relax and the blade's tip sink a couple of inches into the ground. Leaning down on the pommel of his brother's slim sword with his hands and forehead, Danamar took in a lungful of air. The raven colored long hair fell over his head hiding his grim face onto which a slight smile crept as he realized he must've held his breath all the while he had been cutting his way through the horde of goblins. The smile was quickly washed away however by a feeling of guilt and self-loathing that hit Danamar like a two-handed maul.

He didn't mind killing the goblins, orcs, hobgoblins, kobolds and whatnots in fair combat. But what he had just done could only be described as massacre and murder. It was not what he believed in. No. All things deserved to live, even the evil ones, as long as they didn't hurt anyone else. He knew such thinking was not logical or probably not even wise, but it was how he felt inside. Killing never made him feel good. Not even when it was for nourishment's sake. With a sigh and a shake of his head the druid stood up and wiped some of the blood away from his pale face.

It was then that he noticed the look on Rex's face. It was both wonder and worry. The elf knew he had now revealed another side of himself to his companions. The hatred was buried deep inside of him and very rarely got out, but there were times when he was unable to suppress it and keep it hidden. Those times were like this or like what he'd imagined this had been. He had felt fear for the lives of the nice halfling couple, he had seen the fate of his home town pass before his green eyes again. He would never let it happen to anyone else if he had even the slightest of sayings in the matter.

With a weak smile Danamar assured Rextugenous he was fine and that the blood was all from the goblins he'd slaughtered. He moved in to help the bard to calm down the horses. Handling animals came easily to the elf. Somehow he felt more safe and at home in the wilds with only animals around him. An animal would never betray him in anyway. It either feared him or didn't, but it never turned around and stabbed him in the back when he expected it the least. This time however soothing the horses was somewhat harder than it should've been for even for the druid. They could smell the fresh blood all around them and it was probably only the fear of the dragons that kept them frozen still. Speaking softly in elven Danamar held the rains of the mare with one hand, patted its neck and shoulder softly and smoothed down the hair of its nose with the other. Slowly the animal's breathing slowed down a little and the fear left its wide-open eyes.

The reappearance of the two dragons, however small compared to the ones Danamar had seen before, startled the elf enough to make his hand drop on the sheathed sword's handle. He witnessed the power of the halfling-dragons and knew it would be hopeless to do battle against them. But Danamar Maeleneill would not go down without a fight. Holding his breath unconsciously again he waited for the immortal creatures to make their move.

Without a word the strange duo turned back into Drog and Seg with the same shimmer he'd first seen only a couple of minutes ago which now felt like a much longer period. The look on their faces was not a happy one Danamar had been hoping for. It appeared there was no going back to the way things had been before the fight. The avengers now knew their true identity and would never be able to imagine them as a jolly halfling couple anymore. Fortunately the draconic duo didn't lust for more blood that day. What they said made the elf let out a sigh of relief and relax:

"You both showed us kindness along the trail to the City of Lasch. We will do the same! You may keep the wagon and its treasure ... save for these Rings of Invisibility!"

"Fredrico and Lars were kind to us ... they saved our lives ... not knowing our true forms! We will find other treasure! By following the Goblin Shaman and his Acolytes!"

"You may leave this clearing in peace! We will do the same!"

For the last time Danamar and Rex got to witness the magical wonder of the transformation from halflings to small dragons and their eyes followed the departure of the magnificent creatures until they could no longer be seen. Then without saying a word the human and the elf first turned to face each other, nodded in unison and finally turned to look expectantly in the direction their remaining companions should be coming from.

Subject: I don't know how to take these deaths

I don't generally enjoy books that have a "chosen one", a single hero who is the only one that can and will save the world. But I think Martin is almost going too far with his "murderous rage" in his attempt to keep a fantasy novel series as realistic as possible.

Of course having said that I must immediately apologize for writing the above against my better judgement. I have not read all the books and don't know the reasons behind all those deaths. It was just my immediate reaction to the spoiler, which I like Olan, should never have read.

Oh come on... Just think about it. A nice roast of lamb with some baked veggies washed down with a soft ale or a nice red. Then sitting by the fire, listening to the bard and sipping some sweet Tokaji or Madeira style dessert wine... What possibly could go wrong?

That's if they do have a bard or even roast ofc.

Celeste dear, I was born with 1st edition and lived 2nd edition Ad&d. I know exactly what protection the secure shelter gives and I'm happy it does. The young mage is of course as safe in the hut as we are at the inn, but he is alone.

However, I have no idea what Almerin may have in store for us even if I've got some wild guesses. There are things that aren't stopped by wizard locks or alarm spells. The mist worries me. In any case, that was just me saying "please be careful out there". I was certainly not saying Arvin shouldn't leave the village. I think Phelan is roleplaying his character brilliantly.
