We're supposed to kill the king?? Jeesh... What's this, a suicide mission? What do you think we are? Assassins? Come on... We only kill to make the world a better place. We're not cold blooded murderers, but protectors of the realm! ...

Wait... Sorry... Wrong game.

You want us to kill the king? Fine. Never liked the man anyway.

I know, I know. You're as anxious as we are to move ahead, to reveal us the terrible evil behind the macabre show (which I loved btw) we just experienced.

But it's safe to say, that I won't be able to post during the weekend. I'm alone with the girls for the weekend as their dear Mom is enjoying herself with her friends on a cabin in the middle of a forest in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

Newcomers! Welcome, welcome all.

Now Odyson's right, you hear. Get your father to join as well. We've got our share of Innmates from 10ish to 40+, so he for sure doesn't have to worry about being too old. Hell, I'm nearly 40 myself. And you know... if nothing else gets him to join, this will: Every dad should know which sites his kid or kids surf on. He needs to make sure this site is safe for you. (not that I know your age)

Subject: Meet Raven

The sun had already set when Danamar made his way back to their… his… home after another nice, quiet day. He'd finished the carafe of Limelight red he'd been sipping all day at the Golden Oak and taken the long route back home. Even if Greyhawk wasn't exactly a city where a lone person should be walking through the streets and alleys at night, the elf never felt threatened as he made his way across even the shadiest parts of the city. Maybe it was the air of confidence and danger that lingered around him or perhaps the people in the "borrowing" business were in the know. Perhaps his reputation had spread amongst the lowest of beings as well. Certainly there'd been more than a few who had wanted to gain some name by trying to cut down the "Dark elf" as some called him.

The slim dark figure moved up the stairs without a sound. It wasn't something he really gave thought to anymore after decades of hiding and sneaking, but it came from somewhere deep in his backbone instead. Just as he was stepping on the platform in front of the door of his second floor apartment, something made him hold back his foot. Something, be it the sixth sense or experience, made the hairs on back of his neck stand up. Something was not as it should be. Standing on one foot, Danamar crouched down, turned his head slightly, opened his mouth and listened. In a couple of heartbeats the sounds of the city disappeared to the background and he could hear someone moving inside the apartment with heavy steps. Either this killer was a novice or very, very confident about his fighting skills.

Whomever it was that had entered his apartment had done so without forcing his door and was not really trying to remain unnoticed. The door was slightly ajar and Danamar could see as well as hear the person inside lighting his oil lamp. Since the opponent was not trying to hide, there was no need for him to do so either. The elf slowly lowered his boot on the board he knew would squeak intentionally making his presence known to the other person. There was immediate response from inside as fairly loud and determined steps came to the door and a deep voice called from inside: "Friendly."

The nondescript man standing in the doorway said nothing more and merely offered Danamar a sealed letter. There was nothing on the man's face that revealed how he felt about the elf. He appeared to be carrying no weapons and was in no way threatening. And after he'd given the letter, the messenger politely stood aside to let Danamar enter and left without looking back or saying another word. A dozen of possibilities swirled around the elf's mind as watched the man disappear around the corner. The letter could be from an enemy - another attempt on his life. There might be poison on the envelope or the sheet of paper inside or there could some lethal insect hidden inside. There were numerous ways to kill a person with a weapon as innocent looking as a letter. Was it something about his daughter, Kayaen?

But something about the messenger made Danamar feel as safe as he ever did. That could of course be the intention of a killer to get him off guard. But in his line of business "gaining rank" was something one did on personal level. There needed to be proof that one had killed a master assassin in order to get the needed reputation. He for one had never cared for such crap. After all, the way he'd gotten involved in the killing business was somewhat different from the usual as was the way he'd left. For people like him, resignation was often not an available option.

It had taken Danamar a long time to decide on what to do about the summons. He'd caught the code right away, but hadn't felt the any excitement a promise of an adventure might cause on others. He'd actually burned the letter already, but somehow it had been returning to his thoughts more and more on every day that passed from when he had received it. Maybe there was magic involved, maybe not. That was difficult to say. But when he finally made the decision to leave, there was no doubt in his mind anymore. As always he packed his backpack and left the city behind without a delay, for he did not wish linger on things that might make him reconsider the wisdom of the choice he'd made.

Volke. Now that's something new. was all Danamar Amarillis thought as he laid his eyes upon the banner of the ambassador of Abyss. No thoughts on why such a person would call him crossed the elf's mind for it didn't really matter. Second guessing things was no good. He'd find out soon enough. The guards at the edge of camp had obviously been advised of his coming for they offered no resistance and let him pass without a word. There was an anxious kobold waiting for him right behind the outer ring. It was obvious that the creature was afraid, though not of him but rather his master. Toadies like him were constantly worrying for their lives and in this particular case, Danamar didn't blame him. Volke was not exactly known for his kindness…

He was late. That much was obvious as Danamar stepped through the tent's entrance. There were four people (in addition to the kobold) obviously waiting for him. It was easy to see from the setup who was who. Volke, the only full-bloodied elf in addition to himself, was standing by a table with his back towards the entrance and a some ten yards from him, standing in a line of sorts where three others like Danamar, if not by looks then by profession - killers, hunters, assassins. Without turning to face the late comer, their would be employer spoke with an even, cold voice. "You are late, Danamar Amarillis."

The kobold ushered Danamar to join the others and told him quietly to introduce himself and get to know the others. The elf ignored the little creature for a short while before taking a few soft steps across the tent's floor to meet his new companions. He eyed the two half-elves and the human as he moved, considering their looks and pondering about their skills. He almost laughed aloud at the irony as he saw the silvery hair of the male half-breed. It wasn't too long ago that he had himself killed another half-elven assassin who'd shared the outlook with this one. He could only hope this one wasn't as bad as Zilvreen had been.

"Raven." was all he said as he looked the others in the eye. There was no need to explain his profession to this lot, they all knew what he was. Raven was wearing an outfit of full black: soft leather pants, vest, boots, overcoat, a shirt of silk and a cloak of cotton. There were black leather bracers embroidered with gold on his forearms and a grey silk scarf around his neck. Six handles of throwing knives were visible from sheets woven into the front of his leather vest and two long daggers were hanging from his belt at his waist. The long jet-black hair was tied on a single ponytail and his bright green eyes seemed to catch everything.

Subject: How cool is this

Hi Tari! It's great fun to have more and more 2nd generation Innmates around whether it be for lurking or posting. Don't worry about not having anything to say. It doesn't really matter. Look at your Dad for example: 3000+ posts and what has he really had to say? Hell, he doesn't even speak, but licks peoples' faces instead.

Just kidding of course. But posting is really only one side of being here. Reading the posts in the games is another. Then there's of course writing poems, taking part in the posting games, etc. But of course you know all that already having been here for some time already. What I'm trying to say here? *shrug* I don't even know really. Maybe it's just "don't worry, be happy". Take part whenever you feel like it...

And nice to get to know you Litil-Eol. Welcome indeed!

Thanks for having me, gboy. Actually I did find my ancient World of Greyhawk book too, but I'll certainly read through the first page again. Somehow I've managed to miss it till now.

I'm not really looking for unarmed skills, but rather a fighter/thief type dual wielding daggers (and throwing them of course) and wearing no armor. It used to be possible to create a pretty nasty killer with 2nd edition Player's Option books, but I think I can come up with something "nice" with 3.5 ed too.

Prestige classes like Invisible Blade from Complete Warrior come to mind. But getting up the AC will be more difficult. I know there are classes which use INT or WIS for AC, but I'll just need to find one that fits the character.

Whoot! Sounds great. However there's no way I can get you the sheet by tomorrow. So if you can kick off without me, I'll gladly join you guys a few days late?

Though I've played 3.5 Edition quite a lot, I haven't made a character with the rules in a long time. It'll take me a while to scan through the books and find out if an unarmed fighter is really feasible.

Also I've never really played Greyhawk personally, though I've had the 1st edition book at some point. (not sure if it still exists) So is there some book/source I could read to familiarize myself with the setting?

Sorry about cutting in like this, but what's the situation of the game right now? Do you have a full crew, Gboy?

Or would you have room for another assassin? I have one character stored away in naphthlene somwhere and he might fit right in. He's an elven fighter/assassin who's specialized in daggers - dual wielding in melee and throwing. Also, he doesn't wear any armor, but trusts his incredible skill and agility instead. The only problem is that Danamar is originally a 2nd edition character and I'd need to port him into the 3.5 system. If you still have room and would have me in your game, that is.

But congratulations Olan and RDI for reaching a magical number!

It doesn't have to last long, now does it? Then again even if it might work, it could easily go terribly wrong. Let's say that I wouldn't exactly encourage my players to try it either.

But once again a very nice strip. Thanks guys!

Don't think Kilgim has any spells to help make the strings visible. Ofc he might try dispelling the magic if all else fails.

Subject: Will this work?

Turning of the dead priests failed as Kilgim had feared it would. The corpses held no evil soul or spirit in them. They were just empty husks controlled by an unseen evil force. The heroes and the dwarf in particular would have to come up with some other plan and quickly. Going through the prayer for Clangeddin's strength Kilgim, watched four hobgoblins appear from thin air and move to face the terrible puppets at Flynn's command. There was a flash of surprise visible on the orange-bearded face as he reconsidered the bard's skills. It was followed by a nod of approval, but there was little time for anything else.

As two of the hobgoblins moved into attack, they were lifted from their feet to hang in midair and cut into pieces as if some invisible force had pulled them apart. The grotesque chefs then launched their knives along with the hands holding the weapons at the remaining humanoids and hacked them into a bloody mess. Apparently trying to attack the priests was not a wise thing to do. Somehow, Dapple had understood it right away. The lad had earned his pay once more. To avoid sharing the hobgoblins' fate, blocking the blades seemed like a wiser approach and fortunately for Kilgim, Arien was right next to him to do so.

"Seems t'me the corpses are 'ere only t'lure us into a fight so that the spirit can tear us t'pieces. So don't attack, but move t'me." Without waiting for his companions to comply, Kilgim began another prayer, pulled a bottle of holy water from within his backpack and hastily began tracing a circle of some 20 feet in diameter around himself and his companions. "Me hopes they can't cross the line, so get yer butts inside it 'n hold yer attacks fer a 'heartbeat."

OOC: The benefits of level 7: casting Protection from Evil 10' Radius. Hopefully it'll give us some time to think.

Subject: Hyup

I saw Expendables a week ago and can easily agree with Tann. The movie was every bit as good as I thought it would be. I'm sure no one would go see it expecting an intriguing storyline or amazing acting (though I thought the guys did just fine) or any surprises for that matter.

But as an old-school action movie fan, I got exactly what I was expecting. The good old (No, really. They're getting old.) big action stars in the same movie. I can imagine the fun the guys must of had shooting the film. Big guns, explosions, whole lotta shooting and martial arts. What else could you ask for? Oh yeah, mustn't forget beautiful women and bikes. Without going into further detail to spoil the movie for anyone, I'll just have to say: Go see it!

... and do NOT bring the wife/girlfriend along. She wouldn't understand why you're laughing when you are.

Sly, Arnie, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Stone Cold... No. I didn't miss Muscles for Brussels Van Damme, Chuck Norris or Steven Seagal. They just wouldn't have fit in the crew.

Subject: Bring them on!

He'd been expecting something like this to happen, but still the way the horrible undead began to reform like marionettes, made Kilgim flinch. The evil magical energies swirling around the room seemed to be pulling body parts together and pushing the monstrous beings to their feet. There was no time to observe the patterns the evilness was forming. The time to wonder about it would come later, if it would. The The dwarf gripped the leather covered handle of Black Axe tighter and gave his neck one final twist. "Oh yeah? 'is t'best ye can do? Brin' 'em on!"

"Kilgim!", Char's yell caught the cleric's ears at the very moment he raised up the holy symbol of Clangeddin: a circular pendant made of the purest of silvers with an engraving of two crossed axes - a picture not unlike the tattoo on Kilgim's forehead. "Undea'!" The bald dwarf nodded at the ranger and muttered: "Me 'ears ye, laddie. Me 'ears ye." Holding the amulet in his left hand, Kilgim could feel the familiar feeling of warmth which seemed to be radiating from the holy symbol. It made his fingers tickle, in a good way. He could feel the power of his God at his disposal. Well… at list a tiny fragment of it.

The dwarf stood his ground despite the approaching monsters. He knew Arien would be there to keep him safe for the while it would take him to banish the walking dead, and so would Maximus. The mighty gladiator had proved his courage and power of will many times before. Even the unseen magics which had tried to pull the mountain of a man's huge sword from his hands had failed to intimidate him. Kilgim felt no fear. He was amongst friends. And those friends were the ones he wanted to have beside him in dire situations such as this.

"Father o'Battle, 'ear yer child's call. Let yer power cleanse 'is 'oly place from these abominations!" While quickly saying the little prayer, the iron hard dark eyes of the priest observed the undead's approach. When he felt the might of Clangeddin surge through his body, Kilgim relaxed his muscles, drew breath and yelled at the zombies: "Begone!" He knew the theatrics weren't needed nor was the prayer. But it always helped him concentrate on the task and to direct the holy energy better at the enemy.

...If only he'd concentrated more on the teachings of the elders back at the temple as a youngling. The way of the warrior had drawn his attention, divided the lad into two parts so far from each other - a healer and killer, in one body, sharing one mind. He was a hero or so the songs the minstrels weaved said. He'd never felt like one. It was his work, his duty, his life. His. But at times such as these a shadow of doubt worked its way into his otherwise strong mind and made Kilgim wonder. What if he'd made a choice? What if, instead of picking up the jet black axe, he'd followed the path of his mother. What if he'd filled his mind and body with only the words of the Silverbeard. Would he be here? Probably not. But were his mind and heart not divided, his belief might be even stronger and his powers far greater. The non-living evil in the temple would not pose a threat. Kilgim could channel greater amounts of Clangeddin's power through himself and even the greatest of the undead would fear the messenger of the Lord of War...

But that was not how it could be. This was here and this was now, hopefully? He was both a fighter and a priest - a prayer and an axe. He could not change that and neither could anyone else. Where his axe would fail him, the God's power would stand in to help him survive and bring down the enemy. He was Kilgim Blackaxe, a wielder of both weapons and divine magic. And he would avenge the deaths of the priests.

Without waiting to see what happens, Kilgim begins another prayer to Clangeddin...

OOC: After he's done with the turning attempt. Kilgim will cast Prayer, then pull the second axe and join Arien and Maximus in the fray. Helping the "tanks" where he could, but making sure he can move quickly to anyone in need of healing.
