Topic: RDI T-shirts
Subject: Huh?

How much do t-shirts cost in US anyway? I could hardly get two shirts for $31 (20€) in Finland, hell I'm not sure I could get even one shirt for that price - certainly not with a special design.

2 shirts ordered: CE and DM. Of course. Nearly 12 bucks for delivery to Finland, but I can live with that. Shirts are a bargain anyway.

Strangely enough, the final order lacked the cost of the delivery. I only got a
"A total amount of $ 31.00 will be debited from your credit card."

and

"Delivery (Standard) $0.00" in an email.

Thanks for helping a blind man across the street.
I simply took the words "Size chart" as a heading for the drop down. Never thought of clicking it.

26" should be wide enough since my (forgive the ad) Jinx ones are 25" across. Yay!

I'd order one or two, but I'm wondering about the size of the XXL. I hate the tight fit shirts. They simply don't fit... me.

Inches! Can ye give me inches, mate? (And Grugg let it go, you know very well what I mean)

Things moved in an incredible pace and dwarves aren't build to move in such speeds. Not even their minds work so swiftly - with the exception of the few who have chosen the path of rogues and cutthroats of course. That was one of the reasons why there were no dwarven mages around... or that was a theory Kilgim had come up with once in a drunken stupor some 11 (or was it 21) years ago.

In one heartbeat he was running to save the fallen lad, but Dapple surprised him once again like he had done more than once. He moved almost faster than the cleric's eye could follow and emptied a healing potion in one big swig. By the time the stout warrior priest reached the boy, he was already on his feet dancing away from Kilgim's thick fingers. "No need, old friend", she said and it took the bald dwarf another moment to realize she was speaking in his own language. It was of course no surprise to Kilgim. He'd known the kid for years and knew she was surprisingly fluent in dwarwen. "Ha, me knew that, lad. Just testin' ye. Now move!"

The tower was coming apart, but suddenly the crumbling and shaking seemed to slow down and nearly came to a stop. Not wasting any time to wonder why, Kilgim headed for the door only to be called back by Char: "Tru da win'ow! Now!" Window? Ye out o' yer daft mind, laddie? No time to argue either, the orange-bearded dwarf turned, summoned up some more speed and launched himself at the window after Dapple...

... and came a feet short of course. With Dapple pulling and the ranger pushing, Kilgim too was over and out in no time. A short drop and a hard fall and an uncontrolled roll later the priest was pushing himself back on his feet expecting the tower to fall on his head any moment. But it didn't. Not his way and not even on top of Arien. Instead, the tower vanished. Tons of rock and mortar went up in a cloud of dust. No fragments flying around or anything. Just dust everywhere, really everywhere. Whatta hell? Who are these people? Me didn' know the Imps 're that stron'

When the dwarf was finally able to open his eyes without a fear of getting them full of dust, what he saw in the place of the tower really hit him by surprise. It was Alloryn, in imperial red, ghostlike and struggling with something invisible... something serpentlike. Automatically the dwarf began to go through a long list of prayers in his mind trying to find something that could be of help to the sorceress. But no hidden words of power jumped up and called out to him. No, he needed more time.

After a while Kilgim forced himself to move his gaze from a dear friend to another. The lad seemed ok despite the fall and Char was already up and running. Arien! Must get t'Arien No knowing whether the tower had fallen on the knight or not, the priest scrambled across the rubble and after the ranger.

It was starting to feel like a suicide. Or actually going against a Corp had seemed insane from the start, but with couple of the main characters in the group already arguing, it felt to Guardian they were already dead. Not that it really mattered. He'd felt the same way before more than a few times and had always come out standing... or if not standing, at least alive.

This time... He simply wasn't sure. But the truth was, it didn't matter how he felt. He'd made a contract with DigitalScribe and that was all that made a difference. If Scribe said they were going in, then they would be. Quitting a job because it was too dangerous wasn't exactly good for a bodyguard's public image - it wouldn't really help to get good deals in the future.

The way he saw it, the mixed group would have to get to the target on the ground even if they would have a chopper or an AV. Most of the group (to the bodyguard's knowledge) had no military training or experience in air-ground assaults. With luck some of them would be able to fast-rope down on a rooftop or any other location in one piece. Most probably wouldn't... Not a soldier himself, Guardian would probably either land too fast or too slow and possibly twist an ankle in the process. It looked easy, but wasn't.

Doing it the good old way - waiting till the chopper or whatever had landed before getting out - would simply be too slow. Biotechnica's Sec would gun them all down before they had a chance to defend themselves. And even if everyone in the group knew how to use the ropes properly, they'd still be subjected to the compound's surveillance gear, radars and such. Sitting ducks, was the ancient expression that came to the bald man's mind.

Waiting till the heat settled down a bit before speaking, Guardian cleared his throat and looked directly at Spiff. "The snipe. I know how to use it. I'm not Delta level, but I'd say I'm better than the guy from next door with the thing. Don't know if we need the thing or not, but if you people seriously consider an open assault, then the more fire power we have is the better."

With a shrug the big black man turned his deep brown eyes at Croaker. "So, you're the man calling the shots. What's it going to be? Sneak in, sneak out or charge? I'm no ninja like MDK here and neither are most of us, and certainly not a soldier, but I'd still imagine we'd attract less attention by approaching the target on ground, by foot."

Subject: just another post

The name of the dangerous looking ninja type rang a bell. Guardian had been warned of MDK from a number of sources including the NCPD. Even though Guardian wasn't exactly operating on the wrong side of the law (if it was even possible to follow it to the letter), he wasn't very comfortable around the police either. Due to the illegal businesses of most of his clients, he'd been interrogated a number of times about various crimes the clients had allegedly committed around the city and outside it.

Not taking into account his more or less wild youth, Guardian himself had only been accused of unlawful actions only once. It had been a pitiful attempt by a power hungry sergeant on the rise. Frank had only been doing his job protecting a suit from a samurai. Of course the fact that the Corp hired assassin had died due to a massive loss of blood caused by a sword-cut halfway through his body had raised some suspicion. And the Kendachi found on the scene hadn't really helped either.

Fortunately for Frank, he'd made a really good friend with another Night City Police Department detective 18 months earlier. Danny "Greyhound" Mendelovitz had been working undercover trying to track down a black clinic and a graverobber ripper-doc, who was apparently making good business by killing and cutting to pieces ronins who came to his theater to get some enhancements. Some smaller corps or booster gangs like the Steel Slaughter Slammers or the Sinner N' Saints apparently were very interested in the gear removed from the solos.

But the croaker had had a former copper watching over his back and the pig had made a positive id on Greyhound. Together they'd set the sergeant up and planned to neutralize and slice'n dice the man. Fortunately for Mendelovitz, his former colleague had been laid off from service for a reason. The man had been fully hooked 'dorphs and in his euphoria jammed his op. Danny, unsuspecting, had been totally unaware of the self-made ronin preying on him.

And luckily for the lawman, Frank had happened on the scene and with his professional skill immediately spotted the would be junkie assassin immediately. Afterwards he'd given a lot of thought to why he had risked his own life to save an unknown man. It was not like him or anyone else in Night City where everyone had only one priority - his or her own survival. It was a harsh place to live in despite all the modern hi-tech gizmos and gadgets helping the everyday life. But saved the man's life he had (without any real risk to his own, he might add) and still had no real reason why.

But the strangest thing about the whole incident was that the two men had become friends immediately. Be it due to them both being more of the old-school types or not, but the friendship had lasted throughout the years as a close one. If Frank had a big brother, he'd want one just like Danny.

So when the big, black bodyguard found himself in trouble he couldn't handle - arrested by the NCPD -, it was Danny who came to his rescue and vouched for him. The old dog of a police had to put his own career on the line to save Frank's ass and he did so without a second thought. And it had been the Greyhound who gave Guardian the heads up of MDK too. Just in case. For one never knew when the two of them might meet on the street on the opposite sides. And nothing kept a man alive better than information. It sure had saved Franks behind on more than one occasion.

The asian was just like he looked - dangerous. A ninja, an assassin, a killer for hire. Everything Guardian despised. Sure, he wouldn't blink an killing a man in defense - his own or a client's. But killing for money was something he would never do. That's probably why he never had too much money. Protection business didn't pay nearly as well as termination did. But that was ok to Frank. He made a living. And now he would make a few e-bucks keeping Scribe alive. He knew he didn't have to worry about MDK in that sense. At least not right now. The man didn't have a reputation of being reckless and foolish, but a real professional who made his kill without being shot himself. Hell, it was better that way if one wanted to make a name. Getting killed didn't give any reputation. Just like getting one's customer zeroed in a bodyguard's line of business didn't either... or at least not the right kind.

There were a lot of things Frank could've asked and said about the "mission" and the target location Peacekeeper mentioned. But he didn't. It wasn't exactly his problem how the group was going to accomplish what it had been hired to do. Naturally, should every suggestion be really foolish, he would have to speak up. If not directly, then through DS. But right now, Guardian would simply keep on observing the people around the table and in the joint in general. Always ready for action. It was - after all - what he'd been hired to do.

As seems to be the habit lately at our wonderful site, I'll be posting some baby pics as well. I had to post some of our 6-year old Liisa too, because they are really good in my (biased) opinion.

I couldn't find all the photos I wanted to post on my work laptop, so there'll be more later on. Sorry.

Apologies for the size of the images too. I reduced them to 50% of the original, but that wasn't quite enough.

Subject: Taxes taxes taxes

Well since our dear, dear Vanadia started, I couldn't resist.

Don't worry about your taxes on your side of the big A, my friends. They're not so bad. Trust me.

My income tax is at the moment 32%, in addition to which I pay around 5.5% of compulsory pension plan and insurance. I make something like 60% of what a senior unix admin would in USA. Our value added tax on everything I buy is 22%, gas is $2.2 per litre which is about $8.4/gallon, right? Tax on capital (if that's the correct word) ie. selling shares, houses, etc. is 29%

And if one of my relatives would die and leave me hefty sum of money, I probably would have to take another loan to be able to pay the taxes for the money before being able to accept it. Sick huh?

And of course the purchasing power parity per capita is way lower than USA due to our high prices. So we don't have big houses and fancy cars (normal people that is). Actually most Finnish families have only 1 car I think and the average car in Finland is the oldest of all European Union, including the poor Eastern European countries.

There! Try to beat that!

Subject: Suomi Finland Perkele!

Ah like Skari already mentioned, always nice to see one's name mentioned in the limelight. I'll gladly give you all the help I can Bobster.

1) Will English replace Finnish? Never. Not going to happen ever. No. Our language is changing though and too fast for my liking and into a direction I don't fancy either. And most of the influence does indeed come from English.

2) English is very common in Finland. Our second official language is Swedish, but English has long ago left our dear neighbours' language in its shadow. I'd imagine you could indeed start a conversation with nearly anyone in English and get at least some sort of a reply. This is especially true in cities. In the countryside people may have forgotten what they've learned in school and might even refuse to speak English, but even there I'd say the younger generation would be able to understand you fairly well.

3) German... hmm.. Never been compulsory, but when I was a little kiddo (the dark ages or so), a few of my class mates picked up German as their first foreign language. They were a clear minority of course and I believe it's even less common today. German has never been available in all of our "ala-aste" or your primary schools. I guess part of the popularity of German language in Finland carries from the war when we were forced to fight alongside with the Axis for three years in order to keep the Russians out. Many of the German soldiers, especially officers got involved with Finnish women. I don't know if any of the Germans were able to stay behind when we finally drove the Germans out of the country in 1944.

And even though we "betrayed" the Germans in WWII and they burned our Lapland, Germany has ever since been a very important business parter for Finland.

4) Swedish. 5.5% of our small population of 5.3 million are so called Finnish Swedes or Swedish-speaking Finns. Our 2nd official language and compulsory usually from the 7th grade. Where as English (the most common foreign language) often starts on the 3rd grade. Russian is of course taught in schools, but is not compulsory. Can be either the first, second, third of fourth foreign language. I've no idea how much French is taught in our elementary/secondary schools, but a lot less than English, Swedish, German or Russian. Can also be the first foreign.

5) Ah.. should've read the questions through again... So... It's often like this: English - 3rd grade (8-9 yrs), Swedish - 7th grade (you do the maths 12-13?), German, French or Russian (or none) - 8th grade, again: German, French or Russian - Upper secondary School (15-16 yrs) Around 90% of kids take English as the A1 or first foreign language. In 2005 9% started studying an A1 language on the 1st grade and 15% on the 2nd grade.

Dunno if any of that made any sense at all.

[Backposting]

The night at nameless motel (or naturally it had a name, but it was one of those motels one could fit 13 into a dozen - nothing about it to make it stand out from the masses), went as nights in such places usually did - nothing happened. Scribe had snored through most of the night keeping Guardian awake. Not that he would've slept even if the media hadn't been making the noise. During an assignment the big bodyguard rarely slept - or slept the way most people were accustomed to. As his employer enjoyed whatever dream he was seeing, Guardian sat on his bed eyes closed, with the pillow behind his back and the katana on his lap. He was completely relaxed and resting, but very much aware at the same time. Learning to sleep while awake had taken a very long time, but it had saved his behind a few times.

The job had started off with more action and violence than a regular job usually did. Then again keeping DigitalScribe safe and sound more often than not meant exactly that - keeping him in one piece and alive. The media had a peculiar habit of getting into trouble when he was after a big scoop, but as far as Guardian knew that was quite normal on Scribe's line of work. People rarely wanted the public to know about their private issues or shady deals. And in Night City, when someone wanted another to keep his mouth shut, that someone usually shut the mouth in question up in a direct and bloody manner.

In the morning the next address on their list was no big surprise to Frank. The bald bodyguard had been to NH Mallplex more than once with DS. It was a place of pure ice if one was looking flashiest outfits and gear of the moment, but it was also fairly safe for handling "sensitive" issues. No gang or hitman wanted to get into a fight in such a public place. CCTV was everywhere and numerous the guards carried live ammo and there always seemed to be a patrol or two of the city's pride enjoying their daily dosage of caffeine and doughnuts.

J.D. was one of Frankie's numerous contacts and one of his favorites, if Guardian's memory didn't betray him. The two were like competing brothers or cousins in a love and hate relation. Ebertech, the coder's company had a good reputation and its software was favored by many braindancers. Another group of people the old-fashioned bodyguard didn't always completely understand. Frank didn't mind going to the Mallplex or visiting J.D. at Ebertech, but usually he preferred to keep a low profile and stay of the limelight. That wasn't really possible when guarding public figures and being seen was of course necessary to gain a little more fame in order to get the better paying jobs.

So as they walked through the shiny halls of the Plex, Frank was a bit surprised to see them heading away from the business tower and into the clothing area. For sure it probably had been agreed on at some point earlier, but he must have missed it. Chastising himself for not been as alert as he should've, the big man followed his current boss into Action Jackets. While the others where busy getting themselves dressed up, Guardian kept a watchful eye at the surroundings while grabbing a couple of needed items for himself. With his big frame, there weren't too many options, but fortunately he wasn't the only "man" sized person in the business. Still Action Jackets had the ultimate solution for people of different builds. The digitally controlled tailoring module made sure that no one could blame the store for not having items that fit them. And gladly not all of the clothes had neon lights, swirling colors or rolling vids in them. Action Jackets also dressed people who didn't want to be seen.

After the quick stop at the action man's wardrobe the group made their way where Guardian had originally expected them to go - the business tower. Scribe did his bit and talked them in. Holo-Harriet (it wasn't the hologram's name for sure, but Frank had picked it up from somewhere) would not let anyone in without an invitation from inside. And while to anyone not knowing about the strange relationship between the two, the media's request to J.D. might have sounded like something that would certainly earn a rejection, it just made Guardian chuckle quietly. But it was the code-wizard's answer that really made the big man smile.

At first Guardian was about to ask from Scribe if they all would really be going inside to meet J.D., but he quickly decided against it. If Frankie would've wanted the rest of them to stay outside, he would've said so. Maybe the troupe made his current story seem more believable or something. Whatever the reason, it didn't really matter to Guardian. He did prefer to stick tight to his client at all times. It was the only way he could be sure anyone couldn't get too close and do something nasty which would cost him his pay.

It probably wasn't a completely unique scene they were causing inside Ebertech, but for sure more than a few heads turned their way as Scribe led them through the maze of cubicles and rooms to J.D.'s office. Preacher and Spiff were probably strange enough for the clerks and programmers, but Scribe's appearance was something most of the people probably were not used to seeing at work. And then there was Guardian himself... 6'4" and nearly 200 pounds of muscle dressed in black, the trimmed goatee and mustache, the stylish Mikuzis hiding his augmented eyes and kevlon/polylog Ruf and Gibson covering the rest of his frame. Unfortunately his usual red'n black Jackson had been ripped in the action on the previous day and Action Jacket's had only had Jacksons of his liking in silver. Since he never wore anything else, the all black was now a bit... less black, than usual - especially so in the bright lights of the office and the Mallplex.

Of course Guardian could have appeared even more dangerous or imposing had he been carrying his Arasaka Rapid Assault shotgun or Kendachi MonoKatana in the open. The New Harbor however was a clean and tidy area, if the construction sites and the Mall could be called such. Heavily armed people were not tolerated and even though he had the needed licenses to carry the things around (with the exception of the monoblade ofc), they might have caught too much attention for his liking from the security or NCPD. Instead, there was on his shoulder, the worn-out specially fitted sling bag with velcro holsters for the sword and the shotgun.

The "negotiations" were handled in the usual manner with Scribe coming out with less money lost than J.D. would've wanted. But that was how it always was and Frank knew both of the men were equally happy to do business despite the seemingly large difference in the starting price and the final one. And J.D. would be getting his piece of the cake in one way or another. Then soon enough they were in a cab again.

At the Red Lantern the group was united again at a lunch table. Before sitting down Guardian eyed through the people in the joint and once happy made up a quick excuse to visit the men's room to check it out as well. Satisfied with the safety of the place, he asked Spiff to move on the other side of Scribe in order to get the seat with his back towards a wall and as wide as possible a view at the entrance and the other customers. The exchange between Croaker and Spiff was over by the time the bodyguard sat pushed his seat back and sat down, but he could see from their faces that something had happened. With a question mark written on his face, he cast a look at DS, who dismissed the silent question with a shrug. Nodding, Frank leaned down casually as if to tie the laces of his shoes and opened his bag... just in case.

Right after Peacekeeper received and ended a phone call, two strangers walked in. Immediately, Guardian smelled trouble. The two didn't appear hostile, but the tall asian's way of walking woke up the martial artist inside him. Frank wasn't the most capable man when it came to unarmed combat, but his Aikido training along with the Tae Kwon Do chip had often helped him come clean from a brawl. The man, who introduced himself as MDK, was certainly dangerous. But apparently Jack had hired the man to give them a hand... or a foot. The thought almost made Frank chuckle again, but this was a more serious situation than the one at Holo-Harriet, so he pushed the thought away from his mind and nodded slightly in greeting instead. The other new guy was no fighter, that much was obvious and the two made an odd pair, but from the way they moved while approaching the table, it was obvious to Guardian's skilled mind that the two were acquainted.

OOC: Please forgive any mistakes in the post. I didn't have time to check it out.

With the Greens and their commanding officer down, Kilgim risked a deep breath and took a look around at his companions. All were alive and apparently well. There were some minor injuries, but all in all things looked fairly good for a change. With a grin at Dapple, the bald priest shook his shoulders to get rid himself of tension of the battle. "Me knows ye know me could've 'andled 'em without yer 'elp... But thanks again, laddie."

One of the enemies was still alive, though not for long it appeared. The man had accepted his fate and begged for a swift, mercyful death. It was quite unlike the Greens Kilgim had fought before. The Imperials weren't really known for their tendency to give up and surrender. He couldn't really care less whether the Green lived or died.

He wasn't one to support the idea of execution, but shared no love at living enemies either. Usually after a fight only the winners survived. Such was the nature of these things. And one day he would not be on the victorious side. But when that day came, Kilgim knew his soul would find a way into the domain of Battlelord where he would carry on serving his master through all eternity. Life was simply one step on the ladder - one step closer to his God. With a shrug he dismissed the thought and moved to take a look at Valentine's limply hanging arm.

But there was betrayal even in surrender. That was they way of the Imperial army. As Maximus' s blade swung past its intended target, things started to happen in slow motion or so it felt for Kilgim. He could only admire the skill of the Green as the man leaped up like a puppet on a spring and launched his fist into a lethal blow. But at the same time another moved and the warrior priest was not surprised to see who it was. Unlike himself, not completely taken by surprise, Dapple moved with lightning fast reflexes to save the huge gladiator's life.

But that wasn't the only lighting fast thing happening in the room. There was also - Lightning! As Maximus fell down the stairs head first, the room was suddenly lit by a bright electric light appearing out of the blue. With no time enough to blink, Kilgim could only watch the bolt strike first Dapple and then jump to him. The jolt of pain arcing through his body was immense. Not the worst he'd felt in his life, but not far from it either.

At the same time Arien is engulfed by flames and two Reds appear in the doorway, one staring and one screaming for death. Before anyone could react, the Imperial sorcerers were gone. Now there was no time to waste. A short-lived victory had been turned upside down and fed to them feet first. Dapple and Maximus were down and apparently killers were on their way.

With a quick glance at Dapple, the grim-faced cleric made a quick decision. The lad had taken the full force of the lightning bolt, but to the best of his knowledge the damage was already done, he would get no worse. The big warrior on the other hand was bleeding and bad. And with enemies about, there was no time to summon Clanggedin's power to heal him. Fortunately Dwan had once again been wise to provide the party with potions.

But if things weren't bad enough with two members of the group badly wounded (well Maximus was witnessing the miracle cure of the potion of course), then they suddenly got even worse. There was a tremendous sound of something crashing through the tower's wall and the whole place shook with a tremor. Kilgim pushed himself up from the doorway, grapped his Blackaxe and whirled around - expecting to find a new enemy coming at them through the rock and plaster. But there was no one, at least none his eyes could find. Instead, what he saw, turned the look on the dwarf's face even more grim and he let out a low guttural growl. There was a man-sized hole in the wall and Arien was nowhere to be seen.

The growl was just about all he had time to do before the whole wall came crumbling down and dust filled the air. The sounds Kilgim and his companions heard next were sharp and loud enough to pass through the noise filling the air. And there was mistaking about it. The whole structure of the tower was starting to collapse. "That's not good!", the cleric called out, "She's gonna come down!"

Not caring about the invisible imperial wizards anymore, Kilgim had more urgent and lethal things to worry about. "We've no time t'fight 'em in 'ere. Let's get outta 'ere. Now!" The dwarf quickly leaped beside Dapple, grabbed the boy from the front of his vest (quessing here, can't remeber what Dapple is wearing) and threw the lad on his shoulder. From the grunts the lad made, Kilgim could guess he was hurting pretty bad. "Sorry 'bout that laddie. But me's glad t'see yer alive"

OOC: Assuming things here ofc. Will change if need be.

Subject: Raven's here

I've posted.

I was under the impression that the tower is coming down and very soon?
I'll correct my post if that's not the case.

Sorry for being out of the picture for so long everyone. Once again I've had a very busy work schedule with everything not going as planned. Too much work and too few people. You all know the drill.

Also we've all been down with the flu, Saara included. And that doesn't happen often except for me of course. I seem to have a terrible resistance against such things, but fortunately my girls are made of better materials than me.

It can also be this darkness, which is luckily starting to give into light, that's making me ever so tired. We do now have light from around 8am till 4pm though and the spring sun is starting to show. So I'll be better soon... I hope.
