Topic: I'm rather new
Subject: Posting SRD links

is no real problem. I have them saved as HTML, so all I hae to do is open the document, cut, and paste.

Simple. And I don't mind the minimal effort.

I could, however, ask the MWIC (man what's in charge) about putting a link to a page on my own domain where I am putting my collected "helpful gaming links" like the SRD links, random generators, graphics, and such ...

I'll approach him about it. I really should do that. Someday. Soon. Maybe.

Topic: The Christmas Game!
Subject: A simpler Christmas (winter holiday, Solstice, whatever ...)

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Bags, but not gift bags. I use the brown paper bags form the ssupermarkets as gift-wrap and tie with a simple string or three ...

2. Real tree or Artificial? Neither. Don't need a tree to celebrate the holidy. It's just a symbol that means many things to many people.
3. When do you put up the tree? No tree, no worries about putting up or taking down ...

4. When do you take the tree down? See #3

5. Do you like eggnog? Most definitely!.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? I got a multi-blade pocket knife with teh cub scout log on it one christmas. I had to open six boxes, all wrapped, that were inside one another to get to the box with the pocket-knife. I still have the knife ....

7. Hardest person(s) to buy for? My brother. I never know where his interests lie or when or how they will change from year to year.

8. Easiest person to buy for? My father. He loves everything, even if he doesn't know what it is..

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Nope. Not my thing.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Both ... but I tend to be late sending them, either way. And I ALWAYS forget someone, even though I use a list ....

11.Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Whoa! Ummm, I can honestly say that I have no "worst" gift. I loved 'em all.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Home Alone. The kid is me in my younger days, but in a more modern setting ...

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? March. I know what's coming and I have time to think and hunt for just the right gift while I am shopping for other things.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yes. An heirloom (watch and fob) gifted to my grandfather, who gave it to my father, who gave it to me, and then I passed it on to my son..

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Pastries. Any of'em. All of 'em ...

16. Lights on the tree? I'm a commie. No tree, no lights ...

17. Favorite Christmas song? A serious choice would be O Holy Night. A light-hearted humorous two would be Dominick (the Christmas Donkey) and Grandpa Got Run Over by a Reindeer.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Stay at home ... distance has already made strangers of most of my extended family.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Nope. They don't visit that often.

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Sheesh. No tree, no lights, and NO topper! (#3 again ...)

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Only ONE on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas morning.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Figuriing out what to do with all the gifted fruitcakes that usually aren't eaten, and how to minimize the number received next year ...

23. Favorite ornament theme or color? Snowflakes and the ecologically damaging window flocking. I live in the southwestern desert, transplanted from snowy northern Indiana. While I miss the snow, I am glad I no longer live in it..

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? An old family recipe for a (kind-of) Holiday Cherry Cheesecake with a chocolate topping and laced with cherry liqueur ... like a cherry cordial pie/cake. The mouth waters ...

25.What do you want for Christmas this year? For my part, I would like to see the return of the "simple" celebration of Christmas, without the commercial and retail hype that says "Chriestmas is not Christmas without ouir product"

Subject: Well, you asked ...

“Melia, what are your thoughts upon this issue? Do no be silent, lass. Your opinion carries much weight in this group.”

Melia dropped her chin to her chest and sighed deeply. It figured. She had learned to keep her temper from overriding her mouth, but had yet to learn to curb the temper itself altogether. She still rankled at the accusation against her, but in retrospect -- and it should be taken in retrospect -- it was almost laughable. So she should not have flared at Artemis' lack of inclusion of her presence. She knew it was not done maliciously. She had retained the presence of mind not to throw accusations of her own at the others, but her silent tantrum had not happened unnoticed, evidently.

Davian's query to her drove that thought even deeper into her reverie. Just when she thought she knew them and their little "janks", one of them -- always at least one of them -- surprised her by being just the opposite of what she had "figured out".

She forced a smile as she turned. "Me? I think we've been had. By who? I don't know. But I intend to find out. I agree that going back to the sultams lands now would be foolhardiness at it's height. It would be nice to find a cave for shelter and planning, but," she glanced around her slowly, "I can't imagine one being anywhere close. Nor did I see any mountains on the horizon that would be a likely spot for one."

[[ ooc: or did she? ]]

'Twould seem to me that this small watering hole would be mapped by others to use as a life-saving spot in this vast expanse of gods-forsaken sandy nothingness. There might a small town somewhere nere, but I don't think any of us has a clue where or how close. I think that east is the direction to continue, since we were sent this direction to start our exile. And speaking of that ... the ranking guardsman seened not to want us to die and coudl be considered an ally. We can figure out how to contact him later, I think."

[[ ooc: was she able to get his name when she asked? ]]

"I carry a tent with me that is large enough to provide a shelter for us in all but the harshest weather. It would be cramped but it would be shelter. I cannot, however, provide shelter for the animals. That is something that we should also look for ... ummm ... well , we also need to maximize our water-carrying capacity... and ... that's what I think ... " She trails off to silence, looking sheepish for her lengthy dissertation and tapping the boomerang against her leg.

[[ ooc: is there anything of interest on the mule/horses/bodies? What'd we get, huh? huh? What? ]]

Subject: Gentlemen? may the fleas of a thousand camels ...

The trip to the oasis was made with only the obvious conversational topic(s) discussed: How? Who? We did what?!? Did we really? Drunk or drugged? Melia found herself envying Artemis for his use of the discarded material from his "party clothes". Her own face, she could feel early on, would be burnt nearly to blisters if she didn't find shade soon. Oh, well.

Once at the promised spot that had the promised salvation in the way of gear and transport, conversatin lulled in favor of the choice and inventory of mounts.

And in Webby's case, of bodies also.

Melia made a point of keeping quiet until she had something to add, so she focused on checking the contents of the pack-saddle on the mule without taking the pack saddle apart. A better inventory could be done when they were away -- far away. Davian and Webb exchanged views as to what to plan from here. Both seemed to be intent on revenge of one sort or another. She turned, and was about to comment on their assessment and her own agreement when Artemis chimed in with:

"Gentlemen, if I may interject ... "

Meila's comment died in her throat, and she placed her fists on her hips and glared at Artemis. Either he was only addressing those who had spoken aloud, or he was dismissing her presence -- again. The guys all did it at one time or another, seldom enough, but at the same time often enough to be aggravating -- to her. Maybe she was just too sensitive about it. And that sensitivity maybe could have come from being singled out as the 'female member who did spout about equal and personal rights to an entire harem'. Maybe the guys just weren't used to a female presence. Yet they seem to accept her into the company readily enough. She honestly believed that they did not leave her out of conversations intentionally, but still ...

She turned and resumed her inventory of the mule's pack-saddle., mumbling softly to herself.

Subject: Pain! Pain? What a pain ...

Melia opened her eyes, blinked, then yelped from the pain of not being able to stop blinking immediately. But stop she did. Wottinnell had happened? Last she remembered, she and the others were celebrating and they themselves were the guests of honor. After all, they had stopped the raids, when even the sultan's vizier couldn't muster the men to do it.

Then they were on their knees in sand and being charged with all sorts of strangeness. What amounted to "upsetting the redfruit cart". All she remembered was the drinking and knowing she'd have to nurse a hangover in the morning. This was no hangover. This was serious.

" ... female member did spread rumours among the Sultan’s wives of the ideas of personal freedom ... "

What?!?! The only time she remembered speaking with the sultan's wives was during the bathing and dressing to prepare for the celebration. And although whe was a big proponent of personal freedom, she was not fool enough to foist her personal beliefs on those of a different culture, least of all one she was unfamiliar with. But if she was drunk -- or influenced, somehow? Hmmm... -- .she may have done just that. Oboy.

" ... immediate execution ... death by hanging, death by fireball, death by lightening ... "

Death by what? Oh, this just keeps getting better and better, Melia thinks.

Wait. He said 'any attempt to re-enter the lands'. So they weren't gonna die just yet. But the HEAT ! That would be a slow and unpleasant death.

Wait again. Spotting their gear beyond the crossbowmen, she sensed salvation, of a sort.

All of this was noted in sullen and prudent silence, but inwardly Melia was as hot as the sands surrounding her. She -- they -- couldn't be responsible for the crimes spouted by this guy! So many transition lately! In a tomb, the owner of said tomb transports them to a desert. They make friends, then help their new friends, then they get accused of -- well, stuff! They were far removed from familiar surroundings. They needed to find out where they were, first, and THEN decide what to do and how to do it. No, FIRST they had to find shelter of a stable sort, and somewhere they weren't being chased. But how far would they have to go to be outside the sultan's lands and free from "persecution"? Oh, just wonderful !!

Then the bastitch that was doing the announcing surprised her. As he bent in an arrogant and flamboyant motion to tie his bootlaces as it flaunting his position of power, he whispered that they would die unless they sought the aid lying just beyond the next dune. He even described briefly what they would find. Then he stood and adopted his "official" demeanor and ordered the party to get their gear and leave.

She wasted her breath on asking a single question as she rose, and while he was moving back into his ranks: "May I have your name, sir? I would know the name of my enemy, on the chance we should meet again.".

[[ ooc -- She's not expecting an answer, but hoping for one. A reason behind the madness ... ]]

While sorting through their gear, Ameilialta set one of her boomerangs aside until she was finished donning her own sccoutrements. Then she picked up and hefted the weapon while eyeing the "announcer"-turned-helper,. as if judging whether or not to risk a shot. Then she turned and followed the others moving quickly to the east, as directed. Topping the dune, she sees a smallish knot of trees. Trees? More like huge, rough-stalked flowers near a small spring. Anyway, there were dead bodies, as mentioned. Also, there were five horses and a mule, convenienly tied to the trees -- or whatever they were.

Once in the area of the trees, Melia chose one of the horses and dis a quick inventory of its tack and gear.

[[ooc -- if no one approaches the mule, she will do a cursory visual to see what it may be carrying before tying the lead rope to her own chosen mount. ]]

Tanned and a bit-more-than-slender, Amelialta easily passes for a human. One would have to look twice, or maybe thrice, to notice the ever-so-slight slant to the eyes and the nearly invisible vestigial points on the tips of her ears. Even her hair and eyes are the non-descript brown found in most of humankind. Then there is her size. At slightly less than 5 feet tall, she would be considered small for either the human or wood-elven sides of her parental heritage(s).

Amelialta prefers not to speak of her past history at all unless it is with, and includes, her current companions-of-the-moment. She actually has friends among those she has adventured with, for she has found that adenturing types are more accepting of differences, racial or otherwise. So has she been accepted into this group of adventurers.

Wearing light scale armor and hooded cloak, she carries the bow-and-sword combination usually favored by the elven side of her parentage. Her unique addition to those standard weapons are her boomerangs, one of which is carried at all times on one hand or the other. While it is not a fearsomely-damaging weapon, she has come to appreciate its "knockdown" capability and it's indirect angle of attack.

It don't mean she did it, but it would be the one directed at her.

It DOES mean she'll want revenge for it, though!

Subject: Olegarn

Once Ole led the others to where he found the injured little one, Thagovan took over and asked one named Grothtorg and another, Crulgrin Shadebeard, to see if they could find any sign of where the children may have gone or what may have taken them.

Ole opened his mouth in a silent "Ah!", and tilted his head back suddenly, causing the bat, Smyert, to squeak and shift his grip on the bound hair at the back of Ole's head.. That was where he remembered Crulgrin's name from. The library archives mention him as a caver for his clan, much as they mention Grothtorg. But where Groth had recent entries in his accomplishments,. Crulgrin's history seemed to "drop dead" a few years back. Well, he's here now, and an opportune and valuable addition to this party, with his skills.

"Does It Eat ... Much ... Mushrooms?" Ole wasn't sure who Loco was speaking to until he turned and looked at the cleric's hand pointing at Smyert. The Khord's face was positively beaming and, although his words were clear, his face had a slightly unfocued look about it.

"Ummm, no, I don't believe he does, vernerable one. I have never seen him eat any mushrooms at all."

He wondered if the cleric was perpetually in his bemused state of mind, and whether or not it was induced or natural. A coiuple of the many things he would like to ask the Khord about, but not here, not now.

The two trackers led the party to an area where there seemed to be signs of a struggle or disturbance. There was also some strange impressions in the sand. According to Crulgrin and Grothtorg, they appeared to be made by something sharp or narrow, and led off into the distance, and off the path.

Then came a scream. A female voice, truncated, cut off. It came from the direction of the searching parents. Then there was a briefly-seen flash of a quickly-moving light. A torch? Possibly. Captain Kharov wasted no time in readying his shield and weapon before he rushed to aid whoever had screamed. He was followed closely by Baldorf, who seemed to have put his shyness aside suddenly, as if the focus was all he needed. Speaking of focus, Ole now had to decide where to direct his focus. That became obvious as more and more of the children's "saviors" went toward the area the scream emanated from. Ole went with the majority leaving the few behind who were still mulling over the new "footprints".

The sudden shift of activity from one area to another so rapidly troubled Olegarn. It smacked of fast travel, and not necessarily by the paths. If that was the case, whoever -- or whatever -- it was either had exceptional eyesight, a different mode of travel, or an uncanny knowledge of the mushroom forest. And when he arrived at the site of the commotion with the others, he noticed the area in question was off the path. Not good..One doesn't stray from the path. Everyone knew this.

But Olegarn's entire life was one that had "strayed from the traditiional path". So why should this be any different? But Ole was not a leader. Nor was he a follower. He was an investigator, a finder. It was up to a "spearhead" to lead into unknown, and for Ole to make the unknown known. Ole delved in his mental archives for a clue that might fit what he had "picked loose" so far, which was not much ...

After being relieved of the company of the vampires, the remainder of the trip back to the orphanage was made in relative silence. Dai and Miran were busy cradle-carrying Ocyari, and so had their own respective focus. Biensel was as quiet as he had ever been, but Percifeer was uncharacteristically silent. Pao was tossing the night's events around in his mind, juggling thoughts of Pio's death, and Llammorh's willingness to accompany his body to the temple of Lysora without mentioning the chapel at the orphanage. Then there was the market transaction yet to be done, the words spoken by Stuart and those spoken by the vampires, the revelation of Ocyari's possible heritage, and Dai's opportune meeting. A night of signs, protents, and coincidences. Or was he reading more into it than was there?

As Pao entered the orphanage with the others, he had an almot-immediate feeling. Not of nostalgia, no, more of a feeling of mild discomfort, as if reliving an old, unpleasant memory. But now was not the time for regrets or unworthy thoughts. There were things to be said, things to be done, not the first of which was rest! It had been a long -- very long -- and eventful day.

After Ormander's initial concern about Ocyari, and Miran's typically brief and cryptic answer, the headmasterr started to let them in, telling them to head for the chapel within the orphanage. But he then paused as he noticed someone he didn't recognize -- Yothrik.

    “Who’s this?”

Pao had to smile again at Miran's calm and non-chalant reply to that query, as iuf he were relating an everyday occurrence:

    "A messenger from Ocyari's father."

Tapping Percifeer on the shoulder as he spoke, Pao said quietly, "Ormander, it has been a long day, and much has happened in a short time. At least as far as I am concerned. May Percifeer and I accompany you to your office? I can relate quickly what I know, and Percifeer can fill in the details I do not know. I can assume the others will come as they are finished with their own tasks."

[[ ooc -- Whether Ormander agrees to meet in his office or be briefed where they are, Pao will quickly anb briefly tell him of the events that have transpired since he joined the group, including the death of Pio, the leaving of Llammoth, the clandestine meetings with Stuart and the vampires, the market transaction they have yet to do, and meeting with Dai. He also mentions that rumors have been heard in Councilor Velch's office concerning the theft, but what they were is yet to be determined. ]]

"I apologize for not bringing Pio to the chapel here, Ormander, but I thought it best at the time to put the resources of an entire temple to work on his behalf. At the time, my own temple was closest and time was of the essence, as it is even now. Llammoth volunteered to accompany Pio and watch over him."

"In the short time I have been on this quest, I have seen and heard much. Some things tying to this dire problem of yours, and some, like Ocyari's unforseen heritage, shockingly coincidental. If her parentage is related to this, I would be even more shocked but, regardless, it must be dealt with. We just need to sort out the when and how of that particular issue. For now I need rest. I would like to speak more in the early morning."

[[ ooc -- gonna find a room and rest. Converse can be in the morning, as far as I am concerned -- after prayers and meditations for spells ... . . . . . . . did I forget anything? ]]

Subject: Pearson

Pearson
As the team moved toward the auxiliary lab, to Pearson's mind came, all unbidden, a memory from his teen years. He used to play a game that was part board-game, part role-play -- Tunnels and Troglodytes. As a card-character, he and other players explored "unmapped" tunnels, caves, and rooms in an ever-changing underground setting. Funny thing was that he never expected to be doing just that when he was "all growed up".

And this current situation was everything that he loved about the game. Unexplored (for him) tunnels, strange rooms to search and clear of wierd critters, looking for a treasure -- even if it WAS uncertain as to what the treasure was. Olkay, so there was a down-side. The damage suffered from the wierd critters they encountered was real, and it was painful! But he had his armor, the ARBA. And he had his pistol as his "sword" for close-fire, his assault piece as his "bow and arrows", and his trusty, pill-poppin' grenade-spitter as his "spear".

These memories and "revelations" brought another quiet smile to Pearson's face as they flittered through his mind. But he was not the fool to live in them. His focus was on the here-and-now, listening carefully, eyes in constant motion to keep from getting "surprised and slaughtered" again. But the thoughts kinda brought things into perspective for Pearson. They need to be adaptable to the moment. One could be told to "expect anything", but life had a habit of injecting random chaos into the "anything". So Pearson was expecting only what he saw. THEN he would decide and act -- within his orders, of course. But he was determined not to be surprised ever again -- ever -- especially not in this place.

The sudden and relative calm these thougnts elicited in Pearson would extend, he hoped, to future orders to Pearson from the Ell-Tee. The lieutenant had the map for where they were, whether in his head or elsewhere. So Pearson didn't need to know the entire layout of the facility -- yet.
