Subject: Brig continued

Stardate 2365.02.09 (Tuesday 42138.7)
USS Peregrine; Deck 5 - Brig - 15:25

"You'll get through this Lauren," she continued, "though we won't be roommates any more, I'll be here for you, if you want it. Just expect me to be a straight-shooter, as always, and there won't be any surprises."

Lauren turns her face towards her friend and sighs, releasing her knees and shifting so that her feet slide back beneath the bench. She grips the edge of their shared seat and offers a sympathetic expression. "There's nothing to it, right? Just grin and bear it."

Dana noticed Lauren's relaxing posture as her feet slid down and back beneath the bench. That's a start. she thought. She gave Lauren a faint grin at the term ‘Grin and bear it' and shrugged her shoulders before saying, "There's an old saying ‘That which does not kill you, makes you stronger'. I'm not sure where that comes from, probably some Vulcan Proverb or another." Her growing grin made it hard to tell if she was kidding or not.

"I appreciate you coming, Dana, no matter the pretense." Almost eagerly taking the opportunity to change the subject, the small scientist continues. "What's been going on with the Peregrine while I've been swimming in my own muck?"

"Well now," Dana thought for a moment before speaking, "I don't know if you heard, but there was another incident in your department. Petty Officer Rogers was exposed to some nasty chemicals in the Chem lab and he received some very nasty chemical burns. But he is doing better now, and we should have him back in shape in a couple of days. Lt. Sh'iraolnas is investigating the incident to determine how it could have happened."

Dana put away her items back into the medkit and then sat slowly on the edge of the bed, she sighed, "Lauren. You know this could have been worse. If we had been back at the Starbase then the Captain would have handed you over to Starbase Security and you would be facing a Court Marshal. Your life in Star Fleet would be over. But here you are, a little lighter in rank, and after this punishment phase, you will be back at your work. The work you love, right? So, if that is what you want, then get through this and then get on with your life. Your career is still on track, though you have experienced a minor setback, but nothing you can't overcome. You're young, you still got a lot of years in Star Fleet ahead of you."

"I should have expected a reprimand from you," Lauren sighs sourly and draws her knees up closer to her chest. "But don't worry about me, Dana. I'll just throw myself into my work and eventually this whole thing will be a distant painful memory."

Sullenly staring at the stark floor of her cell, the small woman's brown eyes begin to fill with tears. "How can you possibly understand? You would have probably barged into the captain's quarters and jammed your finger in his chest in protest. But I'm not like you, Dana. I did what I thought was right and it turned out to be wrong. Very wrong. From now on, I'm going to stick with my duties and steer clear of any additional drama."

"It's not a reprimand Lauren," Dana replied, "it's the facts! I do worry about you, because I know how you are and how you would take this whole punishment thing. But you're right, in time it will be a distant memory, and it's up to you how painful it will be."

Dana chuckled a little bit and shook her head, "I don't see myself jamming a finger into the Captain's chest about anything; I would find myself your roommate once more." She smiled slightly and then it faded and her voice got softer, sounding a little sad when she continued.

"You're wrong though," Dana said with a sigh, "I do understand." She didn't go on right away, but dropped her gaze to join Lauren's in staring at the floor.

"I've never really shared this with anyone," the Chief Nurse said, a unusual quiver in her voice, "and the exact details aren't important. But, I too was once where you are now. There was an incident in the Academy, when I was in Medical school. I had aspirations of being a Doctor, like my mother, but ... something happened and it almost cost me my career in Starfleet. Circumstances were ... complicated and the situation was resolved without a court martial, in return I would remain silent on the matter and it would be kept out of my record. But, my plans to be a Doctor were dead in the water, and I could only continue my Medical career as a Nurse."

Dana fell silent for a few moments and then looked at Lauren next to her, "Yes, it is now a distant 'painful' memory, and I agree.. steer clear of any additional drama." She smirked slightly as she sighed and looked back to the floor.

"You'll get through this Lauren," she continued, "though we won't be roommates any more, I'll be here for you, if you want it. Just expect me to be a straight-shooter, as always, and there won't be any surprises."

Máiréad whirled around to face the nearest sound of something dropping to the floor; when she saw the robotic creatures she hisses in anger. More unnatural abominations brought forth by evil men.

She looked around and saw that everyone was still close enough to her (within 6 yards, the map seems to indicate the group is still within that range). She grasps her staff in one hand and makes gestures in the air with the other as she mutters arcane prayers to the spirits for the ‘might' to defeat these evil mechanizations.

(OOC: She casts Hero's Might on the entire party, including herself - Those enhanced with Hero's Might gain a +1 bonus to damage when making melee and ranged attacks.)

After her spell is complete, Máiréad makes sure to stay behind Lum's hulking form, so that she can assist in healing when needed and he can provide some manner of protection for her. It is an arrangement that has worked out well in the past.

(Note: She had cast Stone Cloak on herself in the last post prior to the cat's dropping in. I have lost count of the Magic Points she has left, but I'm sure she has some. DM, could you update when you get a chance? Also, did she recover any between the firebug encounter and the cats?)

"How are doing Lauren?" Dana said to her friend, sadness at the situation showing clearly on the normally stoic face of the Chief.

"Miserable," the mousy faced former chief replies, the word practically dripping with self-pity. She sits on the bench in the back right corner of the cell, knees tucked up under her chin, arms wrapped about her legs and looks up at her friend without so much as moving her head a millimeter. "Are you here to end my misery, Dana? A true friend would. Just an accidental overdose of insulin would do it."

"Pity? Really?" Dana said as she walked over to her friend and set the medkit down on the table and opening it up took out a medical scanner, "I knew that you lead a sheltered life, Lauren, but I thought you wouldn't stoop to self-pity." She turned on the scanner and began to wave it back and forth near PO Crane; as she did so she continued talking.

"You must remember that ‘you' got yourself into this mess," Dana told her, "and that ‘you' have to face the consequences. So, you got demoted, which almost always happens when you go to a Captain's Mast, and you have some extra duty, a little brig time, and some bread and water restrictions. That is why I am here. To make sure your physically going to get through it alright. It might not sound like much, but after a day or so, just eating bread and water can take its toll on your body. I'll be here each day to make sure that you get through that alright. I'll be up to you, to get yourself through the rest of this mess."

She paused and set down the scanner and then reached into the medkit and pulled out a hypospray and after setting it she pressed it to Crane's forearm, where it hissed briefly. "That's a vitamin booster. You seem fine, physically, but your metabolism is a little low, probably because you didn't eat much prior to your mast. But the vitamin booster will help keep you stable; other than that, I think you will pull through this alright. As long as you're willing to try."

(OOC: Tag. Will pause here so that you can reply, wherever. I will adjust later for any responses.)

Stardate 2365.02.09 (Tuesday 42138.7)
USS Peregrine; Deck 4 - Sickbay - 1510

"Chief Cook to Nurse Miraan," Dana said into the comm.

=/= Miraan here.=/=

"Miraan," Dana continued, "Can you report early for your shift, as in immediately? I need to go to the Brig to perform a medical examination."

=/= Absolutely Chief. I am on my way.=/=

Dana gathered her portable medkit together and was ready to go when Nurse Miraan walked in a few minutes later.

"Thank you Nurse," Dana said as she put the strap of the medkit over her shoulder and headed to the door, "I will relieve you at 0300 in the morning, so that you won't have to overwork your shift."

"No worries Chief," the lovely red haired nurse said with a smile, "I didn't have any plans really."

"I have left instructions on the PADD regarding our patient," Dana said as she paused in the doorway, "please continue the treatments specified and notify me immediately if there are any unexpected changes."

Miraan nodded as she picked up the PADD and walked towards PO Rogers bed.

Dana took one last look towards PO Rogers and then turned and left the Sickbay headed for the Brig. She thought about the condition of their severely wounded patient; he had been responding well to treatment so far. She had repaired the damage to his skeletal structure, and the muscular system and was well underway with most of his flesh and skin. She was taking it in stages to give his system time to relax and not induce too much stress. He was still under sedation until she thought he was sufficiently regenerated to handle it. Hopefully tomorrow he would be ready to be wake up and tell them what had happened to cause his horrible accident.

Stardate 2365.02.09 (Tuesday 42138.7)
USS Peregrine; Deck 5 - Brig - 1520

Dana walked into the Security Area and stopped before the Security Crewman on duty at the security station.

"Good Afternoon Petty Officer," Dana said as she stopped before her, "I'm here to perform a Medical examination of Chief... ah Petty Officer Crane... prior to her beginning her sentence. The orders should have been updated to allow Medical access to her during her confinement."

Petty Officer 3rd Class Salia Rotet looked up at the Medical Chief as she stood before her. She noticed that the Chief seemed a bit uncomfortable about being here, but didn't know why. Salia looked down at the screen before her and called up the confinement order on PO Crane, and did see that a note had been made that Medical was allowed access to ascertain the prisoner's condition every 24 hrs.

"Good Day Chief," PO Rotet said as she looked back up at her, "It does say here that you are allowed access, but I will have to check the contents of your case first."

Dana nodded and opened the medkit and showed her that it only contained medical scanners and the like. Once this was done, the Security PO rose and walked over to the brig area and took her to the 1st cell where she deactivated the force field and allowed Dana to enter the cell containing PO Crane.

"Thank you Petty officer," Dana said as she stepped into the cell, "leave us alone for the examination, please. Patient privilege."

PO Rotet had started to object, but the talk of patient privilege made her nod and reactivate the security field.

"I'll be out here, if you need me," Salia said before returning to the Security Station.

"How are doing Lauren?" Dana said to her friend, sadness at the situation showing clearly on the normally stoic face of the Chief.

Ah, I reread your post and see that when you said about "the others on the other side of the pile" I thought you were talking about party members, but you meant the cats. My bad!

Inwill of course support the party, casting assistance magic and then healing and other magic as she can, but I'm waiting on a crude map from the DM at the moment. Want to make sure I know where everyone is first and where the cats are on this side of the pile.

I also see that Ensign Blackmon has a turn at Command? I assume that is the Big Chair, right? ~gulps~. I hope she is ready when the time comes, but at the rate time goes here in this game that'll be a few months away yet. . My lucky is that is when something bad will happen, when she has the bridge.
