Subject: Picks

Ody, my bad. I must have looked at the wrong person. A true fan indeed, and they almost pulled it off. Maybe one last spell was needed.

Hmm guess someone should have picked the Cowboys afterall.

Of course! A litter box! Doh! Well next time.

Glad things are well. I'm looking forward to your posts; I just love Smoke. I sit here and look at my cat and ask her: Why don't you talk to me like that? Of course she remains silent, but from the look in her eyes she wants to say something, I know it.

She gets out of bed and walks into the den stretching and rubbing sleep from her eyes. Her gaze passes over something and then whips back as realization hits. In the corner is the box, but a large hole has been ripped in one side. The box is obviously empty.

"Ah, hell," she mutters, " should have gotten a bigger box."

Sorry to hear of all your personal troubles; I hope everyone comes through alright!

Yeah, I'm terrible at this football stuff. I don't really even know the teams, except for the Pats of course.

Just to show you how terrible I am, I'm going out on a skinny limb, and picking:

Tampa Bay

Just because I like the cannons they fire off when they score.

My condolences Nomad!

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread with sadness and sorrow. So lets get back to Football.

SUNDAY

New England (GO PATS)
Philly
Indianapolis
Miami
Minnesota
Pittsburgh
Baltimore
Denver
Cincinnati
Oakland
Los Angeles
Green Bay

I'm still undecided about Monday. I'll hold off on picking that one just now.

Oh, Tann I'm sure your head was fogged long before I came along.

Also, how do you know that Bannix's Butt is Bald? Hmm on second thought, I don't want to know.

I already posted Máiréad's actions, including looking at the control panel, just looking for now. Seeing if she can read any of it, assuming there has to be some type of writing; most panels have something.

Yes, the room needs to be searched. Recommend we don't attempt to open that sealed door just yet. Not till we have completely examined the room. If someone wants to check the cabinets, just do it carefully.

We could close the door we came through, that would slow anything down that tried to follow after us.

I think we will find some control here that will open that sealed door, when we're ready for that. Lets examine and see what we find, eh?

Stardate 2365.02.09 (Tuesday - 42137.6)
USS Peregrine; Sickbay - Deck 4 - 07:12

Chief Cook looked up as Nurse Reynolds walked into Sickbay and she frowned. She didn't know what the woman was doing here since she didn't have duty this day.

"Good Morning Chief," Reynolds said to her as she went over to one of the medical equipment drawers and opened it.

"Good Morning Nurse," Dana responded, "what are you doing here? You're not scheduled for duty until Beta shift tomorrow."

"Yeah I know," Sandra said with a sigh, "But there was a scanner that was a little out of alignment yesterday. It was within specs, but I wanted to see if I could get it correctly. It... well I thought about it all night."

The Chief smiled slightly and nodded, but she didn't say anything. She knew how it was; she sometimes had an itch that just had to be scratched. Besides, she wasn't going to deny her personnel from working if they wanted. She kind of thought that perhaps Crewman Reynolds was trying to prove herself here. Nothing wrong with that either; Dana would always encourage that type of behavior.

Dana was distracted from her thoughts by a beep from her computer; she had a message which she opened:

To: CPO Dana Cook

Subject: Response: CPO Lauren Crane

Chief Cook,

I would certainly be interested in whatever you wish to share concerning Chief Crane. I have a few minutes available before a meeting scheduled for oh-seven-thirty if you can make it, otherwise, I'm afraid that my schedule does not permit time before my meeting with Captain Drake.

Regards,

Lt. Sh'iraolnas
Chief Science Officer

Dana nodded to herself and looked up, "Nurse Reynolds, would you mind watching the Sickbay for a few minutes. I have some urgent business to attend to. I shouldn't be gone more than fifteen minutes."

"Of course, Chief," Reynolds said, "I'm going to be here for a while anyway."

"Thank you!" Dana said as she sent a quick response to the Lieutenant. All it said was, I'll be right there. Rising she left the Sickbay and headed to the Science Lab.

Stardate 2365.02.09 (Tuesday - 42137.6)
USS Peregrine; Deck 4 - Science Lab 1 - 07:18

It only took a minute for Dana to arrive at the Science Lab where the Chief Science Officer's office would be; it was on the same deck after all. She paused at the door and pressed the announcement buzzer and waited to be admitted.

Asovil looks up from the request for a second set of eyes on a set of algorithms for dark energy disbursement that she is writing and calls out, "Enter."

CPO Cook pressed the open button and stepped into the lab and into the office for the new head of the science department. She took in the Andorian woman before her as she stepped forward. She seemed abnormally attractive for an Andorian; most of the Andorian women she had seen were harsh looking and appeared to have never smiled in their lifetime, but this woman was different; she looked likable.

"Chief Petty Officer Dana Cook," She introduced herself as she stood to attention before the woman awaiting her introduction and permission to get down to the reason she was here.

Standing to her willowy height, the blue-skinned young woman steps around the desk to greet the newcomer. Returning the salute, she motions casually towards the chair and plants her left buttock on the corner of the desk. "Please come in and sit Chief. I'm afraid, as I stated in your message's reply, that I have another meeting in a few minutes so I apologize for the brevity in which we're forced to conduct our first encounter.

"Now, you stated that you would like to speak with me about Chief Crane?"

"Yes Lieutenant," Dana responded as she moved to sit in the chair indicated. "Hopefully I won't take up too much of your time. First off, it is not my intention to intrude upon your department, or call into question how you will run it now that you are the new department head. My only concern is that my friend receive fair treatment." She sighed slightly as she gathered her thoughts before continuing.

During the pause, Asovil remains politely focused on the blond woman's lips. The science officer had figured out that if she watches the lips of those she's in conversation with while they speak, she's more likely to retain information. This is exactly what she's doing as the Chief gathers her thoughts.

"Lauren is my friend and roommate," Dana went on. "We have known each other since she came aboard and have grown close. With that in mind, I hope you understand why she confided in me about her situation when you no doubt told her to keep it to herself. She knows that I will tell no one and she needed someone to talk to about it. Sometimes it is good to get troubling things off your mind. She is devastated by this and thinks she will be kicked out of Starfleet for it. She loves what she does, she loves this ship. It will kill her if she is kicked out."

"I know you came aboard and investigated the situation that occurred in the Science lab with Lt. Tesenblen," Cook continued, "and that you found out that Chief Crane was the one that revealed the violation to Starfleet Security instead of going to the Captain—a direct violation of the Chain of Command. Now, I am in no way condoning her actions; I am a firm believer in following the proper channels.

"Lauren knows she did wrong," Dana continued. "She thought that the experiments that Lt. Tensenblen was conducting was a danger to the ship, it's crew and even the mission. She was only trying to do the right thing, but she did it in the wrong way. I am not here to plead for her innocence, I just want you and the Captain to hear her out. Listen to her reasons for doing what she did before she is judged. I know her, probably better than anyone on this ship, and I know she didn't do this to harm anyone, but the exact opposite, to try and save the ship."

Chief Cook paused to take a breath before going on, "I would hope that the Captain would handle this aboard ship and that she be allowed to stay aboard and serve you in the capacity that I know she can. She is a wonderful Geneticist and dedicated to her work. If given the chance, I know you would grow to like her and count on her. Please don't let your first impression in this case sour your outlook on her. Given the chance, she will surprise you."

"That is all I have to say," Dana rose as she finished. "I don't require any response from you LT. I know that you probably can't discuss too much about the situation. I just wanted to make a statement. I know that you don't really know Chief Crane, so I thought someone that did could provide some insight on her. I hope you will consider what I have said when you talk to the Captain today. Thank you for your time."

Manicured thin white eyebrows rise at the abruptness in Cook's closing statement and Asovil blinks a few times in a second. It is true that Chief Crane had been instructed not to speak with anyone else about this situation until discipline had been delivered, but if the CSO were being honest with herself (and she is), then she has to admit that she had given no thought to CPO Crane having a roommate. Sh'iraolnas' last ship had been a large one and even Chiefs had their own quarters. Any girl knows it's just about impossible not to share what's going on in your life with your girlfriends, especially when they live with you.

Affecting a forgiving smile, the Lieutenant says, "I appreciate you coming by, Chief Cook. While I cannot, and will not, speak for the captain, I will say that you make a compelling argument."

"If there's nothing else,?" Asovil cocks her head just a little to the side and looks askance at the human female.

"No, sir," Dana replied as she moved towards the door.

"Again," The CSO removes herself from the desktop and walks the Chief to the door of her office. "Thank you for sharing your concerns and for looking out for your friend. She's lucky to have you."

Dana nodded before she turns and exits the room, headed back to Sickbay to resume her shift.

(OOC: Another collaboration with Brom. Thank you sir! )

Subject: Ooooo pretty!

When Rhy brought out the messenger bag and they all saw the blood and its condition, it was obvious that the Firebugs were not the messengers, but had in fact killed the messenger. When the contents were brought out and the parchment unrolled to reveal an intricate map, Máiréad gasped.

"Such a beautiful map," she said in awe, "this is fine craftsmanship. But what is this writing? This is the same symbol as on the spiders?"

When Lum translates for them, she nods and then asks, "Send more ‘what', I wonder?"

(OOC: Allowing any discussion regarding the map; will back post if needed)

"Rhy," she said once the map was done and secured back in it case, "you found the map. Keep it well."

Once they were done with the room they moved on to the doors that were partially open. Tomiki declared the door free of any traps, and Lum used his strength to push them open, they see another room and another set of doors which were closed.

"Well," Máiréad said with a small smile, "I guess we can be sure the Firebugs didn't come through here; unless they have learned to close doors behind them." She chuckled slightly as they moved on to the next set of doors.

Those doors were not locked and yielded to Lum and Tomiki's strength and they see another dark room. Taking out their flashlights, she binds her light to her staff with straps as usual, and they find it looks like a control room. The many panels and large monitors appear off, but there is a blinking red light on one of the panels. (Note: Whenever she mentions taking out her flashlight, she always secures in as mentioned above. Just assume it is, since I don't think it necessary to say the same thing over and over. )

"Let us check out this room carefully," Máiréad suggests with a faint smirk, "before we flip any switches, shall we?" She is referring to a previous mission where ‘someone', who she doesn't need to mention, thought it was a good idea to start turning dials and switches to see what happened? They had all barely made it out of there with their lives, when the mechanical beasts came from doors that opened in the walls.

(OOC: I know I just made it up, but I figure it's ok since it doesn't really affect this adventure in any way, and I didn't mention any particular name. If anyone wants to take credit for that ‘slip up', they are welcome to do so. )

They find another set of security doors which do appear to be sealed. The cabinets that she sees under the control panels don't interest her at the moment. She moves over to the panels where the light is blinking, and ‘without' touching anything, she looks for any sort of writing or indication of what these panels actually do.

"Spirits guide me," she mutters softly.

(OOC: If she needs to do any sort of Knowledge or skill checks, please make them. I don't know how this all works. )

(Edit: Just made a couple of minor changes)
