Now this should be a good fight... Looks like it's my time to play me part as meat shield, and I shall do it as best I can, with the knowledge that we have 2 clerics about....

Subject: Is it a bug, or a bear?

Mal's smile was short lived, for even as his eyes slipped away from the curious little Cidal, and begins commenting on a route, the loud crash, and vibrations it triggered brought the Swashbuckler back into a combat stance, a snarl forming on his lips. He was NOT pleased...

“Bugbears,” the Mage hissed between his teeth, to which Mal agreed. They seemed to fit the bill, but they were much larger than the warrior had ever imagined them. Growling, he starts forward, but noticed the mage in the middle of Casting. Mal understood little of magic, but staying out of it's way was an easy lesson to have learned.
Cursing, Mal could only hope that Alan was accounting for Wembley, and promptly dropped into a roll, staying as low as possible to get to the fallen Cidal's side.

((From here, it is up to Wembley, as Mal will either begin dragging Wembley back to safety, or if he moves before Mal arrives, the swashbuckler shall hold his attack until the fire dies, then strike out at the ball-and-chain wielder.))

Subject: Dirty ol wizard anyways

As the curtain slipped back to, Mal knowing in his heart that it would be some beastly demon, or blood thirsty monster, He was in fact, simply left stunned at the woman before them. Quickly though, his saber lowered, and he took on a slight smirk. He had been among ship crews a long time, and through all the ports he had visited, a prostitute usually looked similar.
But as the beautiful consort spoke, Mal's smirk became an expression of disgust. Ignoring the offer of a massage, the disappointed, and already angry Swashbuckler moved back away from the side room, muttering about foul wizard magics and dirty old men.

His despair only grew as Alan mentioned that only portals would get them out of this place.

"Seems one be as good as th'other. So, Blonde or Red Head?" He asks, little mirth in his small joke. It would just be another game. Perhaps it was all games... Perhaps, without knowledge of where the portals go, one could simply make random jumps into evil rooms forever...
And for that matter, what if only the Wizard knew the way out? They didn't even know if the geezer was still alive. And last of all, even if they DID get out, the island above was impossible to survive apon, and they had nothing to build a boat.

All of this ran through Mal's head over and over again, but he says nothing. Why bother killing the group's possible hopes?

The Swashbuckler looked to Wembley, peeking excitedly through the last curtain. The little rogue always seemed to smile, and enjoy everything he came across. Mal briefly considered that perhaps the Cidal didn't comprehend the danger they were in, but disregarded that. He believed Wembley knew full well, and simply hoped for the best.

"Optimist..." The Swashbuckler mumbles to himself with a smirk, lost in thought. And, he supposed, they should all be that way.... What could it hurt?

Hodges leaned against the wall, watching the wounded trooper, his expression hidden under his bucket. And a good thing too, because his calm silence was simply him panicking on the inside. This wounded trooper would be extra weight. He would slow them down, and possibly get them all killed.

But could he really face leaving the man behind? He could, he decided easily enough. But the others would never go for it..... No, they would drag the useless man along, and in a perfect galaxy, they would save him.

That was assuming their reinforcements were coming in strong enough to even break through the Droids. If they couldn't this was all for naught anyways...

"Just like the simulations, eh?" He finally growls quietly to Batter, then chuckling softly, and moves back out to the corridor.

Mal regaurded Alan's theory, that this room was nothing more than what it seemed. A Bath and Sauna house for the Wizard's own luxury.... But Mal couldn't let go of the idea that there was something more. Why have youe steam room set with an illusion about one's god? Why did it connect to the weapon room? These things made no sense. No, there was something evil here, in this room of relaxation.....

Following close behind Crow, saber raised and ready to strike, Mal stands at the ready as Crow disturbes a curtain, ready for any beast to lunge forward with murderous intent....

Mal sat back silently, listening to the various storied. It seemed his own experience was fake. It matched the others too perfectly....

His Mistress of the Sea was in no danger....

"This wizard's game be gettin' old fast.... One's gods are not tools to be used against them... An' I'll personally enjoy shoving me saber through the crazy bastard's chest if'n we ever find him..." The Swashbuckler growls as he climbs shakily to his feet, and following Crow into the chamber.
Though the steam made it hard to draw full breaths, he manages to steady himself enough to help look around for anything of interest. He agreed with the ranger. Portals were a torture device in of themselves... Best used only when no other options presented themselves....

Hodges looks up as he hears Riggs suddenly ask, "Wait, what about the back-up we've called for? What about Caboose and Omega?? Didn't they say they were coming?"

Looking around, the trooper shrugs. "Who knows. We can't rely on them. We don't know how many clankers are out there. They may have more than Omega and Caboose can get through....."

He pauses, cursing himself. This was no time to hurt Morale. So, he simply finishes with, "We need a plan. If we stay here too long, back up won't get the chance to save us. It is safe to assume the droids know where we are now, so we need to be elsewhere."

Walking away at that, he follows Batter, his gaze falling to the wounded trooper.

"Will he be able to walk or fight?"

Hodges asks, his reason for asking evident even with his face hidden under his bucket.

Kal'Ar had enjoyed attempting to run down the little thief, and it had been a great way to keep spirits high, and pass the time. Anything to take his mind away from past events, and present issues. And it wasn't until they had reached the edge of this swamp that the Ronso's spirits dropped.
"This was not mentioned..." He had growled, more to himself than anyone else, and led the way into the sticky wet mudlands. Soon in, he agreed to carry Nefrelle's pack and Staff, and even offered to simply carry her as well, but the little companion insisted that she walk.

Not much farther on, however, Kal'Ar had to pull the poor thing from the ground, as she had sunk to her waist in the sticky muck. So bad was it that it even threatened to capture the blue beast's feet as well.

Unaware of any oddities in this meek place, the fighter spent most of his time cursing, grunting, growling, falling, and all in all, dragging himself, and the other two when necessary, through this cursed armpit of the land, making no attempt at conversation, nor replying to anyone else's.

Mal wakes with a gasp, his saber flashing in a vicious strike to his right, fending off the demonic rope before scrambling backwards until he touches a wall, breathing hard and uneasy, and covered in moisture, a mixture of sweat and humidity.

Eyes flashing side to side, he slowly realizes where he was. Dropping his saber, he takes a moment to catch his bearings, resting his head in his hands. Had that been a simple dream? It had seemed too real. Too Lucid. He had seen her dying before his eyes. This was a vision! She was in danger, and he had to save her. He knew this to be true. Slowly lowering his hands, he glances over the rest of the party, curious as to if they had made it through without incident.

Hodges slides down to a sitting position, breathing hard. As soon as the hole is sealed, he unseals his armor, and removes his bucket to wipe sweat from his brow. He was not really so exhausted as full of fear. He had never seen real combat, and was only glad they had all survived this first skirmish. His training had shown, as it had from the rest of his unit, though he had not really been watching them.

Pulling his helmet back on, he turns on his comm and, after a steadying breath, says, "Alright men, sound off if you ain't dead. This isn't over yet..."

Standing again, he leans on the wall, adjusting his rifle, and looks down on the fallen droids, allowing a bit of pride to seep into him. A Trooper really was worth more than a droid in a fight. Even a shiny-armored trooper that was greener than a Rodian in a fight.....

Mal immediately answers the mage, shouting to the group in general,

"I be havin' no interest in playin' this wizard's demented games. Ivan, Lead us out, if'n you'd be so kind. And please hurry, before we all be killed by whatever monstrosity be comin' out next."

With that, he holds his saber facing the pillar, just in case they aren't gone fast enough.

((OOC: If the group has a direction to go, Mal will immediately follow, bringing up the rear so as to prevent an attack to one of the smaller group members should it come.))

See, As I said before, I see alot of Kender in Wembley. And everyone knows Kenders dont die by others' hands. They die by their own.

Mal grits his teeth as the great pillar opens, revealing three short little canine like beasts, each sporting claws bigger than seemingly possible, and each immediately leaping out at incredible speed, charging toward the more petite party members.

Growling, the Swashbuckler moves toward Gam and Dudley. Much as he feared for Wembley, He imagined the little halfling would be fine, one way or another. Luck seemed to follow the thief, and something told Mal that by the end of this, Wembley would be the only one unscathed.

((OOC: Mal won't get to Gam and Dudley this round. These things are fast and deadly, and the Swashbuckler knows that to sprint means to leave himself open. As one of the only two meat shields, I can't die yet. ))

Mal nods in satisfaction as they step through the portal into a room with a wide, some what impressive array of weapons. Finally, everyone could have good, trustworthy steel in their hands...

“Oh dear!” Says Ivan with a dramatic air of dread. “Not this room! This is where that thing with the claws and the fangs and the hey hey hey came out of that block there. Better arm yourselves fast dudes because we are going have company.”

As if on cue, all possible exit portals flicker and diminish, leaving an uneasy feeling in the pit of the Swashbuckler's stomach. Raising his Saber before him, it's weight reassuring, he takes a single step forward. Prepared for anything he could imagine, and hoping it wasn't so bad. After all, Ivan was but a cat... Things would naturally seem scarier to one so small.... Right?

Mal finally speaks, the daze wearing off of him, and suddenly says, "Then our choice be an easy one. If there be 10 beasts guardin the portal above, then they be guarding something in particular. I say we be findin' out what. Ain't much use wanderin' randomly..."
He looks to Gamard for the Khord's opinion, trusting in his battle tactics and wisdom to confirm, or veto the Swashbuckler's declaration. Looking to Ivan, he adds, "I dinne' expect you to join in the fightin'. Simply stay behind us and you'll be safe enough...."

*TAG!*

This was all Kal'Ar heard before a pebbles bounced off his head, drawing a deep rumbling growl from his lungs. His eyes followed the little thief's progress until she slipped from the roof, instantly dropping into a almost crouched position to pursue, his beastly speed impressive to most of his fans. Dust rose from his feet as one after the other, they pound down the street after Nia, so lost in the game he does not even consider if their poor, left behind friend could catch up.......

Mal continued to stare, silent and wide eyed. Nothing about this made a lick of sense to his usually rational mind. Was this a dream? Had the stick wielding man in black actually knocked him unconscious? Was this even happening?

Something told the Swashbuckler he wasn't dreaming, but he still could not manage to come to terms with what he saw. Unless.... Was this a creation of the wizard Alan had spoke of? Perhaps a poor innocent bard that had also wound up here, and was twisted and reformed to amuse an old mad man?

Everyone else seemed so accepting of this strange event, taking it at face value.... But something evil was afoot here. Something not at all right.....
Well, he would have no part in it. Crow was the test mouse now. If the strange weeds he inhaled turned him into a cat as well, Then Mal would strike hard and true. After all, it wouldnt be the first cat he had beheaded since he had arrived on this cursed Island.......

But what if Crow didn't change? Could this be a potential ally to the party? Mal still doubted it. The loquacious furball seemed quite content with his current lot in life. Another thing that made Mal suspicious.....

Mal moved with the rest of the group up the stairs, Saber held at the ready, and knees slightly bent, fully expecting a full scale ambush. But there was only more bottles, more booze. But on the next floor, the snoring sound immediately set him on edge. He didn't know why, but he felt at this point that anything at all in this place was a danger to them all.

However, when the Syl and Wembley moved forward to investigate, he made no move to stop them. Best to wait and see, lest he receive a whack to the face again.

But of all the evil, vile, disgusting creatures he expected to jump out as the lid was removed, the truth simply caused his sword to droop, and his eyes to bulge. It was a cat. A cat in clothes. A TALKING cat in clothes.

"What in the nine hells....." The Swashbuckler murmured as it dropped to all fours and meowed. Had he imagined it? No, no, he hadn't, for little Wembley saw it too, and moved to capture the feline.

Too in awe and much too confused, Mal simply watched the events before him unfold, unsure what to do, if do anything at all. After all, what possible harm could this ...... thing cause? Besides a few minor scratches and a nasty hairball, or course......

A grin split the Kiffar's face as his shot tore through the droid's back, sending it rolling through the underbrush, and leaped forward, moving fast, but alert. The Mercenary knew that now, he was vulnerable to all sides, with no backup near by. And anything could have heard the shot....

As he gets within a few yards of the downed B1, he slows to a crouched advance, blaster ready. But the droid was done, and lay smoking and dead. Well, dead as droids can get.
Under it's arm lay a strange grey box, with small flashing lights. But what was it? Surely the droid had had a purpose carrying it, but if it was a weapon, the B1 would have used it..... right?

Slowly approaching, Sellikus snatches the box, lifting it to test it's weight, then falls to a knee and sets it down, moving to open it, his curiosity and desire for wealth making him act rashly. So wrapped up in this is the Kiffar that he fails to even register the approach of the two storm troopers as they trudge through the underbrush toward his back......

(Actions: Open the box!)

Mal rubs his face tenderly as the light comes back on to reveal the man in black laying on the floor, cradling a bottle.

“Are you alright?” the mage asked, “I appreciate the thought of coming to my aid but you shouldn't rush forward into danger when you can't see where you are going.”

The Swashbuckler nods, moving his hand from his face. "I be fine..." He answers simply.

“Seems our 'friend' here,” Alan continued, glancing back down at the still form of the Man in black, “has a mission to protect this stash of spirits. Maybe we should refrain from removing any more bottles for now.”

“I am not sure this thing is alive,” he says after a few moments, “probably some sort of magical construct or servant assigned to this cellar. Fascinating!”

“Up might be a more interesting and safer choice,” he said finally, “the lower levels of a Necromancer's abode are usually reserved for more 'unsavory' things.”

Mal nods. "I agree. Besides, I be havin' no interest in droppin' deeper into the bowels of this damnable hell pit." He growls, and looks down at the dark being. "But how're we knowin' this thing'll not be followin' us?" He adds, raising his sword threateningly, but not advancing on the fallen warrior.
