Cursing Damian for a fool, Jacob kicked free enough of the vines that had sprouted to take cover behind the cart. Looking over with harsh words on the tip of his tongue, Jacob let go of them seeing the shock evident in the boy's stance. Either his magic was out of control, a truly terrifying thought, or it was his first casting. Either way, it would be troublesome moving forward.

Looking back around the shelter turned skirmish-grounds, Jacob took in what he could. The mage he'd intended to target had already been put down. Others had noticed what he had and decided to put down the threat. Or perhaps it was coincidence, who knew?

He next intended to put an arrow into the Changed approaching, but stopped when Xana ensorcelled it somehow. Trusting her to deal with it at the moment, he sighted down the shaft of his arrow, taking aim at the axeman further out. It'd be a nice change if he could manage to take the man out before he became a serious threat.

(((OOC: Firing at axe wielding man to the west.)))

Missing your target is not a great start, as first impressions go. Still, it was all in the appearance, right? Thats why Rotu tried to tell himself anyway.

He gave as loud and obvious a laugh has he could, trying to give the appearance that it was all just a game, and nothing to be taken seriously.

Then he bore down, and struck again.

(((OOC: I'm willing to let the dice keep going. Still trying to cover those closest to me if needed.)))

Sorry its taken me so long. Here is my choice of actions.

Three kinds of attack: (STR)
Basic (better chance to hit, less damage) 1-3
Finesse (middle chance to hit with middle damage) 4-8
Hard (Least chance to hit but big damage) 9-12

Two kinds of defence: (AGL)
Dodge (best chance, least effect) 1-4
Parry/Block (low chance and greater effect) 5-12

Rotu is a go big or go home kind of dwarf.

Rotu was annoyed. Not once had anyone gotten his name right in.... longer than he cared to think about. He assumed he was Rolo, though the announcer was vague enough to leave even that up for debate. What little was left of his dwarven pride balked at being called rotund.

The truth or lack thereof was irrelevant in his mind.

Fortunately for Rotu, he had an outlet for all this pent up aggression. It was a bright spot, one he cherished, and the only one he had left. Wolves weren't especially exciting, but presented challenge in sufficient numbers, which they certainly seemed to have here.

He glanced dismissively at his teammate moving off to the corner. You never leave yourself without an escape when fighting wolves. When they cornered you, they won.

Not that he was much for escaping, mind you. He was going to be the hero of this little arena, and heroes didn't back down from such paltry odds as these!

The fact that he may or may not have been a little too.... rotund... to do much escaping anyway, was also irrelevant.

He moved forward with the other two, raising his halberd in the air and loosing a battle cry. It was time to star making his name.

Or it was time for Rolo to start making his name. One or the other.

(((OOC: Unsure how speed will affect turn order and character positioning, so will post intentions and put faith in the gm. Rotu will move to cover Hitomi and Kia.)))

Subject: Definitely focused, kupo.

Lini had intended to listen to the long-winded hume. He really had. But it didn't take more than a handfull of sentences before his mind started wandering. Maybe this was supposed to be a grandiose important occasion. It certainly sounded like this speech had been rehearsed. But Lini was always preferred action to words. He briefly wondered if being prone to such speech was a hume trait. He'd have to keep an ear out. Maybe he'd ask the one joining the group.

Looking around again, he eyed the only other person to introduce themselves. A viera with a rather intimidating sword. Lini wouldn't trade his gun for anything, but admitted to a certain fascination with swords. He wondered at times what it must be like to wave one around with such grace and precision as Sukini probably would.

Lini shook his head as the man in front of him opened the floor to questions. He only had the one. He was sure if he missed anything important, someone would fill him in. "Whats the job? When do we start?"

He wondered if he'd ever get to meet this Echario person. He wondered what a famous adventurer would be like. He hoped to be one himself one day, after all. Maybe that should be his next question.

Topic: Slate: The Hundred Years of Rain
Subject: So much for the report.

Jacob almost resented being lumped in with the others. City folks indeed. There was little doubt in his mind he knew the area better than any three of the people before him. In another situation he might have spoken on the subject at length. It was one of the few points of pride he had that he couldn't let people one-up him on. Unfortunately, this was neither the time nor the place, it seemed. His report would have to wait as well.

If he were alone, he'd just share the water and have done with it. He could get where he was going with less than the average fighter. Of course, if he were alone, they either wouldn't have come across him, or they'd have killed him immediately. There tended to be less middle ground when you were alone, he'd noticed. Still, one look at the rest of the group was enough to see this would be a fight.

Not that the look would have been needed. Shot fired. Obviously wide, so hostilities hadn't been triggered yet. Jacob doubted it would be much longer though.

Ah well. He had a job to do. Glancing around, he took another good look at his surroundings. The cart was in front of him to the left. It should make good cover. Most people didn't shoot at good, pure water. Not if they were even half-way sane. Looking out at the group that stood opposite him, he zeroed in on a girl without weapons. If you came unarmed into the wilds, you were either important enough to have protection, a mage, or you were soon dead. The very look of her ruled out options one and three. A mage then, he guessed. That would be his first priority.

(((OOC: Jacob takes in what is going on, and gets ready to move to cover and fire at the mage, should hostilities break out.)))

Lini reflexively grasped the gun he cradled, peering around the room at the others. These seemed to be the people he had dreamed about last night. He was determined not to freak out about it.

He didn't seem to be the only person with that determination. But he ignored the part of his mind making that observation, and gripped the stock of his pistol again.

After listening to the Viera and the Hume, he decided it was his turn. "I'm Lini. Moogle gunner and the best shot you've never seen until now, kupo. I hope we can all get along." He paused for a moment, thinking on what Gelion had asked. "Nothing comes to mind, they're relatively new, aren't they? That'll change now that they have us though, kupo!"

Jacob sighed to himself as he and Geoff set out. He ears were still ringing a bit, regardless of him being quick to cover them. Amplifying your voice over a distance like that was certainly a useful ability to have, but, in his humble opinion, not at all necessary. It wasn't like the rains were upon them this very moment. They could have sent the cleric back.

He shook his head, trying to rid himself of such petty thoughts. It was a minor, minor detail in the grand scheme of things. He had volunteered to do this job, and was working on limited time. That energy would be better spent finding answers.

He remained quiet as they both quickly and briefly searched the area. Not much to go on. Clear indications of a fight, but the blood on the ground would tell anyone that. Though he made note of the amount and position, his eyes following it as it lead down the trail towards the lake bed. Nothing for it then, but to head back and pursue it further tomorrow. At least they'd beat the rain out here, so they had a definite direction. Come morning, it'd all be washed away.

Jacob finally speaks. " We need to head back. The rain falls in less than 15 minutes."

(((OOC: Once Geoff is satisfied, heads back to the others.)))

Race: Dwarf

Weapon: Long - Halberd
Armor: Heavy - Half Plate, polished to shine, always.
Special: Steadfast - Increase Soak by 5 hp

A dwarf who stubbornly refuses to tell of his origins, preferring it to remain known only by himself and his owner, thank you very much. Chases the path of Prestige as a hero of the arena. Prefers to finish incapacitated enemies with the spike of his halberd, when possible. The games may be bad business, but its still just business.
