Topic: Murder in Baldur's Gate
Subject: Unashamedly adapted.

The next time I tell somebody I've seen worse, or wierder, THIS is what I was talking about.

Creed fought with an instictual panic that the creature seemed to inspire just by its presence on this particular plane of existence. Perhaps he ought to have aimed at the one on stage after all. But its wasn't as if he could've predicted this. Sweeping his gaze over the stage again, he drew an arrow, and loosed it. Perhaps freeing up the half-orc would help move things along.

(((OOC: Will fire arrows at whichever surrounding minion Hurisk appears to not be aiming at. Continue until end of rounds, or both are dead. If both go down inside one round, next shot at the creature, stealthily if it hasn't noticed me.)))

Topic: Murder in Baldur's Gate
Subject: It's all about the money.

Creed pulled his hood gently lower over his curled horns, looking at a slight downward angle to hide his solid gold eyes from view as he moved forward. Dark horns, black hair, crimson skin, and golden eyes did not put the locals at ease. He hated moving to a new area, the fight to reestablish himself and rebuild his reputation from nothing, but a stationary tiefling was more often than not a dead tiefling, and migrating, however vexing, was preferable to the alternative.

It still irked him. He could run a damn good game, but nobody played games of chance against him. They all assumed he would cheat them. He would, of course, but that wasn't the point. He wouldn't have bothered coming at all if a reliable contact hadn't pointed him toward's Baldur's Gate. As reliable as such people could be anyway. This city was, he hoped, the next step down the path he'd chosen.

He weighed his options, such as they were, as he walked with the crowd. A large city meant a large city guard. That could be a problem. It also meant a large underbelly. That could be a problem too, of a different sort. The local toughs woudln't appreciate competition, he was sure. Creed unconciously shrugged to himself, doing his best to blend with the throng of travellers. There was always somebody that needed killing.

Having nothing better to do, and deciding it was as good a way as any to do a first round of scouting, Creed was content to follow along through the upper city, taking note where he could of guard stations or obvious patrol routes. Always good information to have. He stopped with the rest in front of a large stage, decorated with banners and flowers, which were all sagging a bit in the light rain. Not that many seemed to notice or care. He focused there where some Duke Abdel Adrian (as the crowd was kind enough to scream at him) was beginning to speak. Well, pander to the crowd, if you asked Creed, which nobody did. Nothing new there.

He was about to slip back out of the crowd when the cloaked men made their move. Creed couldn't help but smile as panic broke out among the masses, while he began slowly moving towards the group near the edge of the stage. Somebody would handle the fellow on stage he was sure. He didn't care one way or another for this Duke fellow, but there would most probably be a reward if he could distract or kill enough of these cloaked men long enough for the guard to do their jobs. Even if there wasn't, it would jump-start his reputation in these parts, one way or another.

(((OOC: Creed moves unobtrusively through the crowd into sneak attack range with the bow, and attacks the nearest person. If at any point Someone closes on him, he will fight with his rapier, dropping the bow if absolutely neccessary. In the event no one challenges him directly by turn two, he will fire another arrow.)))

Next question: Is it feasible to move through the crowd unnoticed enough to get into sneak attack shortbow range?

Zarzuket sighed, though the sound barely reached his own ears. The gnome really hated it when this happened. He just wanted to travel. Study shoes, and perfect his craft. Was that too much for a poor gnome to ask???

But no. Inevitably he found himself drawn into some conflict, fighting for "justice", or "freedom", or "survival". Pah. Sure, he knew the blade of his sword from the hilt, but did that mean he had to go around killing other people's problems the rest of his life? He was just a shoemaker!

But he was committed now. It appeared he'd be, yet AGAIN, studying the effects of battle stress on footwear. Because he hadn't got quite enough of that beforehand, thank you very much.

Still, Takrome's boots were of a new design... And while they'd stand up to any kind of travel, he hadn't gotten around to combat testing. They wouldn't fall apart at the seems; he was a professional. But he held his own work to an exacting standard.

It will be interesting to see where it can be improved, he thought, as he returned to the Inn to await the next step on their "journey".

Zarzuket stared at the rest of the group unbelievingly. "You're serious? He asks, and you all jump to do it? Are you all compulsed? Or perhaps concussed? Any recent head injuries?" He shook his head. "Sure, lets just go fight the undead of unknown strength and number. No need to get more information or strike a better deal. Yee-haw." Zarzuket grumbled to himself for a bit, then looked around again. "I'm a cordwainer! I'm just here to study boots!" He sighed again. "Not that I can just abandon my proj-, er, friend. Count me in, I suppose," the gnome finally concluded with a sorrowful glance at Takrome's footwear.

And if in the back of his mind he was designing footwear for zombies, vampires, and ghouls, why, nobody needed to know that but him.

Subject: Sorry I'm late.

Zarzuket poked his head out of the fourth room, looked around and, spotting noone, ducked back in. Paranoia was getting the better of him.

He could have sworn he was being watched since they entered town. Of course,he felt that way in every town he'd ever set foot in, but that detail didn't occur to him. He huddled over his latest project. The stroll about town to check out the local footwear hadn't been fruitful in the slightest. Boring, ordinary, and quickly worn out; that summed it up.

Whenever he could be torn away from his quest for the perfect boot, he wondered with no small amount of curiosity what the town had in store for him.

Subject: The Gnome and the Elf.

Zarzuket pondered this as the group began to move. He wondered if the sudden aggressive streak being shown by his elven companion was being caused by a possible tightness around the toes of her shoes. Perhaps a small stone in the heel, missed in morning boot clearing? He shook his head. Takrome was always like that, and almost never meant it. He then chided himself. Of course the toes weren't too tight. He'd measured and crafted them himself, hadn't he?

The gnome scowled. He'd been put out ever since they'd first been visited by their mysterious... employer, he supposed was the word.

--Five Days Earlier--

It was one of those rare days. Zarzuket was content. Not burning with curiosity, or driven with a need to research. Just content in his work. The goblin cave had been less than a joke with his current travelling companions, and he was now able to focus on his real job: Shoe-making.

He turned his eyes upon the.... strips of cloth masquerading as footwear his elven friend was wearing. It was an old argument, but damned if he wasn't going to have it again. He pointed, nearly incensed with anger, at her feet. "Look at that! Just look! Disgraceful I tell you. When are you going to wise up, and give your poor feet a break? Thats torture that is." He widened his eyes a bit, trying to appear as earnest as he felt. "Just give me a day, I've got a brand new design. You'll swear they've been hit with a Levitate."

Takrome eyed the gnome, "Cobb, the moment I give up my boots is the day my heart fails me."

The little shoe-maker sneered at this. "Then your heart will fail on the morrow, for those.... things.... shall give up on you before the day is out."

She narrowed her green eyes slightly, but there was a flicker of indecision there. A hesitation that had never appeared the times they'd argued before. "Cobb, enough.. The boots are fine." Perhaps at long last...

Zarzuket prepared his final blow, the one he'd been saving for the first time she showed weakness. It was time to drive in the final tack. "One day. You wear what I'll make for you for one day's travel, and if you're feet haven't build a damn shrine to my skills, you'll never hear from me on the subject again."

A glint of humor flashed through her eyes, and only experience with the elf told him he hadn't imagined it. It was followed by a sigh, and shedding of the monstrosities on her feet. "I hate you, small gnome," she said, a slightly softer tone belying her words. "Do not make me regret this, Cobb." A few measurements later, and the gnome was off and happily working once more. Or he would have been, had they not had a visitor immediately after.

The old man beckoned, and he could tell by the others expressions they would be rushing to answer. A small sigh escaped the little blue gnome's lips. He hated rushing a job, but they'd be setting out tomorrow, and he had a challenge to win. He'd leave out a few of his more... extravagant features, but the result would be head and shoulders above the standard boots.

He looked down in distaste at his own footwear, nearly purchased from a general good store. He hated treating his feet like that, but how was he supposed to improve his craft if he didn't know how the common gnome suffered?
