"We only get paid if we find this hidden thing in the ruin before anyone else, so I suggest we get a move on if we have everything we need."

Reynard did not like the unsubtle threat by Morrigu, but he said nothing. At this moment, it was probably not best to antagonize any one of group. The first mission would be taxing enough on their loose alliance. Even he would admit, to himself, that he was hardly trusting of the group here. Despite this, he had to push past this, and work with them.

He nodded to Crowe. "Very well. I am fine with moving out now. I have already obtained my supplies, so I have no need to wait. Hopefully, I am not impeded too much with my armour in the heat."

I have them. They are right after the HP/Saving Throws/ proficiency bonus. I do notice now that I messed up and have athletics at +3 instead of +5. Would you please correct that? Apparently, I forgot the additional skill which comes from being a human variant. Could persuasion +4 be added to his list?

I am aware, but Reynard isn't exactly that perceptive (8 wisdom). I figure that he would be thinking 'Oh hey, everyone is getting up' vs the distraction; although, he would figure that out shortly after. I am kind of playing around with Reynard being a human and being exposed to stereotyping vs his belief that everyone should work together.

Thanks for pointing it out though. I have the tendency to overlook things while writing.

Reynard nodded to Ochit. "As cold as it is during the night, I feel that it would be easier for us armoured folk to stay warm in the nights than to not cook in the day. I know that torches are limiting, but I feel we will be able to make the best progress at that time. And have no-"

"You want something, dark-skinned freak?"

Reynard looked over to see one of his companions, Morrigu the Drow, standing in front of some merchant. He did not seem at all happy with whom he was dealing with. Ochit and Doc Klik both immediately rose to help, with Doc Klik knocking over their table in the process. Trossach too moved in, though he said nothing. Reynard wiped some off the spilled water off of himself sighing slightly to himself.

Unaware Doc Klik had said anything to the merchant, and noting the silence in the inn, Reynard stood up and moved beside Morrigu. In any other situation, he would have watched for how a Drow would react. After all, they were not known for being a pleasant species. However, he would stand up for his companions. He didn't want any off them stabbing him in the back during the mission, after all.

"Sir, I understand where the distaste for Drow stems from; however, I am afraid that I can not simply consent to you accosting one of my group members. Therefore, as Ochit has previously stated I do recommend you apologise." After waiting for a response, Reynard addressed the rest of the silent inn in a guard-like manner. "Nothing more to concern yourselves with. Return to your drinks and frivolities."

"Ay! Are you guys gonna be waiting all day over there? Or are you gonna be be useful and do the damn job we're payin you to do!

Reynard glared at the Templar. As if a couple of minutes would be a critical factor to this mission. He sighed, and moved towards the tavern with the party. As they walked, Reynard grumbled about the heat. His armour only added to the issue.

Once there, they found the merchants well prepared for their arrival, having prepared to charge extra for supplies. He grudgingly paid 6 cp to get 2 more days of rations. As the group slowly began to gather after buying supplies, Doc Klik and Trossach began to discuss leaving immediately.

"Perhaps we should leave in the evening or at first light tomorrow? This heat may end up causing more issues than a little delay." He paused, waiting for a response. "If most of us want to leave now, I shall by no means wait behind."

It had only been a couple of years since Reynard had left the guard of his old town. Despite the obvious corruption of the rest of the guards, Reynard found he missed those times. He had left to try and be able to better help others; however, so far he had barely been able to help himself. At least there he had a stable income to get food and shelter with.

As the Templars gave their speech Raynard listened. He was not fond of them. They took their duty to Bodyguard the Sorceror king very seriously, but they did so without regards to the rest of society. As this presentation showed. Instead of dealing with the threat themselves, they chose to force others to do it for them. Still, the pay was good, for a mission that the Templars felt was beneath them.

Reynard sighed. How had he gotten himself into this? The last couple days were a blur. He shook his head, returning his focus to the group. As the crowd started to dissipate, he was left standing with a motley crew. For one of the first times, he actually found himself dwarfed by multiple others. A half orc, Mul, and Tri-Kreen all made his stature seen small.

The other's began to introduce themselves. Crowe was first, followed by Ochit. Then, the Tri-Kreen introduced itself.

Reynard spun around as it spoke to him, and the others, telepathically. Reynard had never worked with a Tri-Kreen before. From what he knew, they roamed wastes in packs, hunting down anything they came across. This one seemed civil. Despite the now introduced Doctor Klik making him uncomfortable, Reynard supposed that he would have to get along with Klik. If Reynard didn't, he probably would end up dying during the missions.

The Mul, Trossach, then introduced himself. So far, everyone was in accordance with teaming up.

Taking advantage of the silence, Reynard spoke up. "My name is Reynard Coslett, and I will join you. As long as you choose to fight by my side, I shall stand beside you." He motioned to the entire group to try and convey that he meant all of them. "I mainly fight with my hammer and shield," He said while gesturing to this equipment," But I can heal as well; though, I have doubt I am anywhere near as capable as our trained friend, Doctor Klik."

@ Nimu: I don't believe that the 5e SRD website is really ready for any traffic yet, but I can send you(and anyone else) the PDF's for the Player's handbook and the Sword Coast Adventurers guide (which are all of the the player's resources right now).

As for a paladin, I am thinking of being a Paladin of the Crown, but instead of serving the corrupt current officials, he/she (depending on what I decide) seeks to rebuild a more benevolent society. Would this work?

I am kind of thinking Paladin or Fighter, though I have no problems switching classes as needed. I generally play melee off tank classes, but I can do anything.

Would I be allowed to use some character options from the Sword Coast Adventurers guide(the ones that don't rely on the forgotten realms setting)?

Zilvra was sitting at the bar as unremarkable as possible, when the Tengu from last night approached her. "I do not know if you remember me from last night, but I was curious if you had any idea what this was about just now?"

She nodded to him. "I have absolutely no idea. I am hoping, as terrible as it is, that the guards have set up a bounty on someone." She paused, thinking about it. Glancing over to her new acquaintance, she said in a hushed voice, "I am going to ask him. If he doesn't answer straight, and you want work, play along with what I say please." She casually, pulled her cloak off, quickly folded it, and tried to keep it out of most people's eyesight.

The barkeep came out, and offered them something. Holding her head up higher and more confident than she had at all this morning or the previous night, she said, in a regular voice, "Yes, I would like the normal breakfast... as well as to know what those guards were speaking about. The commotion did not seem amicable."

Zilvra excused herself, and headed up the stairs to her room. She grumbled to herself as she peeled her armour off, dropping the pieces to the floor. She pulled off the gambeson, then was standing there in her grungy, formerly pristine white tunic. It had been a long time since it had last been bleached. Eyeing the bed, she realized just how long it had been since she had slept in one. Less than once a month since...

She shuddered slightly, before regaining her composure. Sighing, she fell onto the bed. This was hardly the nicest bed she had slept on, but it was nice not feeling the rocks in her back, or the dampness of a cold foggy night.

Zilvra woke up, with the room lightly illuminated from the sun. Not that it made much of a difference to her. She could see well enough in the dark in such a small room to not care particularly much. Instead of her banded mail, she dressed in her studded leather. Until she went outside of the city, she probably wouldn't need it. She strapped her banded mail to the bottom of her backpack, then headed down the stairs. It wasn't the most quiet of things, as the metal armour clattered against itself. Rubbing the pommel of the longsword on her left hip, she took a seat at the table. Breakfast, the a job search. That was the day ahead.

The guards came in, and discussed matters over with the dwarf owner. Keeping her head low, Zilvra waited until they had left. As the dwarf stormed into the back room, Zilvra slipped closer, trying to see if she could hear anything more about the situation.

Zilvra coughed before responding, the sickness still ailing her. "Indeed? Ah well. I was hoping you might have some work for someone of my...ah.. skill set..." she said, gesturing to the large sword strapped to her back. Shrugging, she said, " I am trying to earn some money. My current ventures are not based at all around profitability, so I am hoping to find something to regain all that I have lost so far."

Zilvra remained at the bar, trying to find solace at the bottom of her glass. She hated remaining idle. It gave her too much time to reminisce on the past. All the pain and mistakes that had occurred... she shuddered slightly.

Quickly, she ordered another drink. She leaned forward, letting the feelings of numbness overrun her. She sighed. Leaning forward, Zilvra continued her drink.

As the night progressed, Zilvra booked a room, and bought a meal. And a 3rd drink. Silently, she brooded to herself at the bar.

The crowd in the inn began to slowly disperse. Zilvra paid for a final drink... as did a Tengu who had taken a seat at the bar as well.

Setting down her 4th drink, Zilvra rotated slightly on her seat to face him. " You seem to be a capable warrior, Tengu. What brings you to Trepus? I have been out of contact with current events for a couple of months."

A couple of weeks before...

With a final slash of her Kriegmesser, the 5th and final kobold fell before her. Wiping her sword clean with her tattered cloak, Zilvra eyed the scattered bodies. Though it was never a bad thing remove such creatures, Zilvra had not been planning on tracking a squad of Kobolds. Coupled with the fact that now her real target would be harder to find, this put Zilvra in a foul mood. Taking the small bag the Kobolds had of preserved food, Zilvra stormed off.

Later that night, Zilvra sat by a small campfire and her tent. She looked over the overly treated meat the kobolds had, before devouring some of it. It was stringy and dry, but that was no matter. Pulling out the crude map she had drawn previously, Zilvra realised she'd have to back track. From what she had decided before hand, a second set of tracks was heading towards Trepus. Although she doubted she could find the tracks again, she had a start. She'd be at Trepus in a couple of weeks... then what? She was running out of money and supplies. Along with asking around for her target, she probably would try to get a sellsword job as well. After washing down the bits of the meat with some water and putting out the camp-fire, Zilvra retired for the night.

3 days before...

Zilvra woke up much earlier than she had planned, due to a fit of coughing. Clutching her head, she rolled over in her bedroll. Her throat felt like it was on fire, her head like a dagger was shoved in it, and she had a wet cough to boot. Laying on her back for a moment, she let the world stop spinning. It had been a long time since she had been sick. She groaned as she stood up. Apparently, it was going to be an early morning.

Current day...

Although Zilvra was not as sick as the days before, she was still feeling the lingering effects. The cough was persistent. Entering the town around evening, Zilvra pulled her torn grey cloak tighter. It was a purely false sense of anonymity. She carried her large Kriegmesser strapped to her back, along with a shield. The shield was battered, with a dirty black fabric crudely nailed across its face. Her armour was scratched up; however, it was still noticeable that she had carved off some sort of insignia on its chest with a dagger. Though she herself only stood at 5'7, and was a slightly more muscular than average build, her face was much different than normal. In shape, it fit with normal half elves; smaller pointed ears, a somewhat angular face, and so forth. However, her skin was a sickly white grey, her hair was off white (shoulder length when combed backwards with some strands falling in front of her face) , and her eyes were a silver blue, with nearly non-existent pupils. She stared down at the ground as much as possible while looking for an inn. As much as she would have liked to wear a helmet, that was bound to raise suspicions.

She came across the Brass Cat Inn. She strode inside, and went for the nearest empty spot, whether it be at the bar or a table. "Barmaid!" She called, "Something strong, and cheap!" A short fit of coughing punctuated her sentence, as she leaned back the best she could in her seat.

I'm thinking that Zilvra has never met any of the party before (sorry guys, I am that guy who slows down the introductions this time, hahaha). I just think it would be hard, with her backstory, to have her know someone well, and still be on good terms with them.

Zilvra had sprinted upstairs to don her banded mail. She was in no way going to not properly put it on though; if, in her haste, she did not strap it on properly, she would be much less helpful against the undead. With her Falchion, she was more than confident that she would cut her way through the undead. Besides, if a couple of guards with a picket fence could defend it, so could she.

She was loathe to admit it, but she had a bad taste in her mouth. It wasn't the regular undead, unless there was a massive horde, that bothered her. It was whatever was controlling them. She had heard tails of liches and Death Knights, but had never heard of any nearby her town. The ones in the tails she was told as a youngster were as powerful as an army, and only the mightiest of heroes

Chuckling, Zilvra chided herself. Things that powerful were only of myth. Sure, there were some monsters that she couldn't bet, but nothing that could destroy an army. It wasn't like there would be anything anywhere near that powerful attacking this village. Slinging her Falchion across her back, Zilvra walked down the stairs. Not waiting for anyone else, she marched out the door, lowering her visor on the way out.

She only left moments ahead of everyone else. She walked, albeit quickly, to the gates. Her armour slowed her down, and would tire her out if she ran to quickly. She did a last minute check of the gear on her. She had left all her camping gear in her room, as it would only serve to slow her down during the fight. Keeping her sword unsheathed, she kept the dull side of it resting on her right shoulder. She would be ready if anything would attack.

Arriving at the gate, Zilvra noticed the guards were focusing on keeping the gate shut to keep the undead out. It made sense. The average villager would be unable to protect themselves. Zilvra hoped there was some sort of tower or platform for archers. Otherwise, that gate was simply delaying the inevitable.

"Zilvra!" He gasped. "Thank the Gods you're all right!" Then he paused to regard her, still grinning widely, before catching himself and regaining some composure. "...I mean, yes, ahem, you are here. And safe. And we have a, ah... a mission to do."
Now visibly red-faced, he straigntened his hat, clicked his heels, and nodded in self-assurance. "...Yep. We're all here. And..." The armoured man with the halberd was obviously unfamiliar. "...And who are you again?"

Zilvra stared at Kestross through her helmet, her eyes narrowed like the slit in her visor. "Yes..." She said, drawing out the 's' in a monotone drawl. She turned as the Sergeant turned to address them.

The party followed Pynn through the muddy streets and the pouring rain until they came upon the western gate. Almost a dozen guards were nearby, some bracing their shoulders against the gate, others standing with spears and halberds at the ready. "Pynn! Get your arse over here and help us out! There's twice as many as them as us out there tonight!!" As Pynn ran over to the gate, one of the guards motioned for you to come to him. "Glad to see some more bodies that can help us fend these retched creatures off. Sergeant Jessop's the name. Come with me, I'm going to need all of you to help clear the scragglers who drifted around the walls."

Though she had wanted to hunt down the source of the abomination menace, Zilvra would make do with this. As much as glory, and a quick resolution, was on her mind, defending the population was more important than her longing for a conclusion.

As you followed Sergeant Jessop to the Eastern gate he explained how for the past three months Dalhurst has had no contact with the outside world, and everytime they tried their messenger would vanish in the mountains. It was only the past two months where the undead started to show up and attack the small town. "I'm sure you've probably been told all of this by the mayor but it still boggles us. No one knows how this happened and the mayor thinks it has something to do with the wizard who lived here long ago. Anyways enough rambling, you need to help me clean these undead off my walls." A couple of guards opened the eastern gate for you, and the moment everyone was outside the gates slammed shut once more. With nothing but dim torchlight from the walls, Sergeant Jessop starts to lead you to the first group of wandering undead.

"A wizard may have started this, but 5 feet of steel will will end it!" Zilvra confidently stated, making a slash in the air to prove a point. Previous inhibitions had vanished, replaced with an all business attitude now. She could not falter on the field of battle. She still had that bandit chief to hunt down.

"Sargent Jessop," the sorcerer asked as he moved out of the security of the town's defenses, "I'm sure there is a reason - I admit I have never defended a town from the undead before. I just want to learn as much as I can about fighting the undead from those that have survived doing it for a while. But why are we leaving the security of the walls? If we stayed inside couldn't we pick them off as they tried to climb over? Why expose ourselves if we could eliminate them from safety?"

Not waiting for the guard to respond, Zilvra had her own answer. "Well, the palisade isn't exactly a castle. I don't think the Dalhurst has much in the ability to repair it either. Besides, what better way to deal with undead than to take the fight to them?" A feeling of cold and calm came across Zilvra. She had no personal hatred of undead. At least not to the extent of bandits. She would fight this battle tactically, and effectively.
