Topic: SW Unknown Regions
Subject: First skill check, a solid pass.

A few vulture droids flew off the frigate, passing heart-wrenchingly close to the King's Kruise; however, non of them fired. The frigate slowly edged closer to the much smaller ship.

"72 Delta 89b, this is the Miraculous (GF-17, Gannarian Patrol) of the Confederate Police Force. Captain Aryg speaking. We are on the search for Republic spies. Cargo, my crew, armor and equipment." He speaks, sounding ALMOST professional... "We are on a bit of a time crunch, Delta, so if we could wrap this up..."

There was a pause on the other end of the comlink. After a few moments, the droid came back on. "Verifying designation, please stand by." The droid went silent after that.

It was at least two minutes before the droid said anything again. "Captain Aryg, your designation has been cleared. Continue on your mission with utmost haste." The droid said flatly. A few moments passed, and the droid said one last thing, "And command has told me to inform you that if you need any assistance, to feel free to contact us, and a battalion will be sent as soon as possible." With that, the droid officer terminated the comlink call. Slowly, the Munificent Class Frigate rotated back around, and began to head back towards Gannaria.

Drunik and GeeDee were able to plot the coordinates to their next jump with ease. Unlike the last hyperspace jumps, this one took merely an hour to finish. Once done, the they were out in the Unknown Regions. A quick scan around showed three different systems; although, the type of planets in them was unknown. However, emanating from slightly west of Galactic North was a faint signal. Further analysis revealed it was a much older signal, at least a couple of thousand years old. How it was still broadcasting was a mystery. It could be worth investigating though. Or, it could be a pointless waste of time, since it was a signal from years ago.

(OOC: Sorry about the delay, labs and midterms are killing me. Hopefully, I'll be able to speed up my post rate next semester.)

Yeah, maybe see about getting some feats. It could make the tower shield much more useful in combat.

You could also strap it to your back. The penalties disappear (minus the ones from weight) if you do that.

What is the action to draw a shield? In pathfinder, it is a swift action, so you could draw it when engaging, and ditch it later. With a squad of soldiers, it could be more effective since you'd be a line against anything coming at you. Without them, it might be an item more strapped to your back and you take out when acting as cover. Or, just change the look of your heavy shield. That's what I would do without the Tower Shield specialist class.

Double attack I guess? Since you can't use two handed weapons quickly, it's not really that good. You could also just describe your one attack over the given attack as multiple times, for the same damage. It would then be just a cinematic difference, so you count the damage the same a single attack.

Topic: Tower Shields
Subject: Legionary Cohort!

I have used a tower shield a couple of times in Pathfinder. Usually, I use it to close the distance between myself and some ranged opponents. There is a fighter archtype that can use tower shields without all of the penalties (he still had massive one since he had a tower shield and plate armour), and I made a pretty good guy who specialized in it.

In Pathfinder, the tower shields give a +4 AC for an armour check penalty of -10. The upside is as a standard action, you can block off one side of your square, and no non-magical attacks can hit anything behind the shield. The tower shield champion archtype reduces the and can get bonuses to saving throws against some magic guys. As it says on the Pathfinder SRD I use, the tower shield isn't much good out of a battlefield, or if you only want to have AC and hp.

I assume that for legion character, you are referring to the Holywood portrayal of the Roman armies, with the Lorica Segmentata and Scuta tower shield. Roman tower shields were pretty much ineffective in one on one fights, not that their training was really guided towards that either, so they would often use slightly smaller, ovular shields in battle. Though those shields could still be tower shields, you could also count them as heavy shields. And if you really wanted to, you could count the Scuta as a heavy shield, keeping the tower shield look for aesthetics.

EDIT: I have personally done a bit of work with tower shields. They are very encumbering, and I wasn't strong enough to do anything but duck behind it (since it was a ...Pavice I believe is the word) tower shield. It was only good in multiple person fighting, when you had other people near by to protect you from being outmanoeuvred. In a duel, it was ineffective.

Outside the room they clones waited; the door slowly groaned, as if something was being pushed up against it. The three clone readied themselves for a fight that could begin at any second.

Inside the room, Gyro was completely unaware of the situation in the hallways. He was still switching through all of the cameras, trying to find any trace of anything nearby. The computer made a clicking noise, as it's screens switched over and over again. Subconsciously, Gyro rubbed his somewhat sweaty gloved hand across his chest; although, it accomplished nothing. He kept going through all the cameras, click, click, click click.

Wait, what was that? Gyro swore he saw something move around the remnants of the ship in the hangar. Leaning forward, Gyro immediately took control of the computer. He quickly changed the screen back to the hangar, staring at the burned ship. Was his imagination playing tricks on him? Or was it something else? Was it something actually there?

Gyro paused, staring at the screen. Did these cameras have other setting on them, like infra-red or targeting? Blast, he should have paid more attention in the briefing when they first got here. Still unaware of the looming fight outside, Gyro began to try and change the camera's settings, or get a better view of where he saw movement.

(OOC: Yeah, sorry for the late post. Midterms are painful. And the way mine are set up, I have a never ending sea of them.)

Okay, here are the fake identities provided, if you want to make use of them.

Ship name: Miraculous (GF-17, Gannarian Patrol)
Allegiance: Confederate Police Force
Mission: Hunt down possible Republic spies
Captain: Aryg
First Mate: Dreht

Cargo: Basic weapons and armour, along with multiple types of restraints and some survival material.

Additionally, I'll go and calculate how much supplies you have in total, and have it somewhere where you can see it.

Ya, I got a ship for ya... And it can hold ALOT of supplies..." Valum looked up to the Quarren as he spoke. Nodding, he motioned for Sergeant Levince to follow as he walked out the door after the Quarren. Looking to Levince, he couldn't help but chuckle. "We have quite the team assembled don't we Sergeant?" Moving forward, Valum kept his foot steps in time with the Quarren's ahead of him as to not fall behind, yet not catch up either.

Sergeant Levince glanced at Valum. "I guess you could say that," he carefully replied. As the they group entered, and began to discuss among themselves and troopers in the hangar, Levince walked over to a different trooper. After a brief discussion, the trooper gave Levince a hand trolley with several boxes on it. They said their goodbyes, then parted ways. Levince quickly moved up the loading ramp, catching the end of GD-99's speech.

As if the point wasn't made, GD flipped his pistol in his hand. "We play by the master's rules." He confirmed, closing the boarding ramp with a slam of his metal fist, his glowing green eyes never leaving the Trandoshan.
"IF there are any easily sick passengers, please leave. " the droid asked, immediately leading folks to their rooms while Drunik followed, informing the droid, "Your gonna get us there. we will take the rest..."

Remaining silent for the whole speech, Levince entered his room, very quickly closing the door behind him. Once the party concluded discussions, Drunik and GD-99 quickly took off from the runway, and lifted into the Coruscant sky. As they left, none of the defensive fleet made any attempts to contact the King's Kruise, letting them past without incident. The jump to light speed went on without a hitch.

It was a three day flight to get to Gannaria. Gannaria itself was of little importance; it was a small, spice generating hub, with more ties to the Hutts and other criminal factions than the war.

On the three day flight, nothing occurred to hamper their progress. The King's Kruise was not a large ship, and it was hard to avoid contact with one another. Levince spent much of the time in his room; though, even he came out a couple times. Never once was he seen without his full gear on.

Once they got to Gannaria, Drunik and GD-99 swiftly moved towards to the end of it's gravitational field, and began to calculate the jump to hyperspace, which would take them into the unknown regions. While doing so, a single Munificent Class Frigate approached them. Quickly, the droid officer on the ship contacted them, mechanically saying, "Attention unidentified Pursuer Class enforcement ship! This is Frigate 72 Delta 89b. Please state designation and purpose in this sector!" The King's Kruiser's sensors displayed that the Frigate had locked weapons on them, but had yet to fire.

(OOC: I'll throw something in the Q&A about the fake identities and info provided. Not that you have to use it though.)

David felt helpless being dragged along by the crowd. It felt... strange. Everyone seemed dead set on going the same direction. That was especially inexplicable, since there were plenty of rides and attractions everyone was avoiding. While being dragged along, he tried to see some of the entrances of the rides. This must be mob mentallity, David thought to himself. He cursed himself silently. If they rioted, this would be a dangerous place to be, especially with Jade.

They all were dragged into the tent, and were sat down. David felt like the stifling darkness was suffocating him. The energy of the mob had strangely died down, but he was still in the seat. Suddenly, the light came on, and some tall black clad man stood on the stage, under a single light."WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO THE DARK CARNIVAL'S ONE AND ONLY FREAK SHOW. PLEASE SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE WORLD'S MOST HORREDNOUS SITES. TREMBLE IN FEAR, QUAKE IN AGONY, WATCH AS THE FREAK'S COME TO LIFE!"

Oh, this was not where David wanted to be. Would it be people dressed in costumes? Or worse actually deformed people. Either way, this probably was not a place for Jade to be. David started to stand, but the light went out. Once again, it was pure darkness.

After a few moments, David noticed the familiar glow of fire. Glancing over, he noticed Amera holding a lighter, with Jade at her side. Maybe that fire would get them evacuated out of the tent? At this moment, he could care less about how they got out, as long as they did.
--------------------------

Jade clutched to the side of Amera in fear. It was brutally dark in this room. It was terrifying. Jade did her best to stay calm, barely managing not to cry in the darkness. Suddenly, a single light came on and the man who had given her and Amera the black roses stood at the stage. After giving a very brief speech, the light went out again. Jade whispered to Amera, " Isn't that the guy who gave use the black rose and riddle?" Jade sat in the silence to a moment, listening to Amera confer with her sister. Jade held tightly to Amera's side, feeling a bit more comforted when Amera wrapped her arm around Jade.

When Amera lit the lighter, the area around her lit up. It was by far better than the darkness. Jade felt her fear recede a little, even if she was still stuck in this place.

Sitting down in the chair in front of the computer, Gyro went to work. The system was damaged, but he was sure he could bypass the affected systems. Light reflected off of the front of his helmet.

Finally, he got the cameras working. He scanned around the base quickly. There was... nothing. A charred ship, but nothing else at all. No bodies, no droids, no enemy ships, nothing. He kicked the underside of the computer in frustration. "This is way too clean for a Droid attack," He muttered to himself.

"Gyro," Riggs began, turning his attention to the other clone and clapping him on the shoulder, "I've got a few possibilities going here. We could turn on the energy shielding on the outer door, which could keep us a little safer, but it wouldn't keep more droids from just cutting through our walls again. I think we should conserve our power and leave them off." He thought for a moment, then continued. "With that, we could fight our way through this mess and wait for our backup to arrive and possibly be killed in the process. Or..." and here, he gestured to the self-destruct sequence. "...we could warn the backup, blow the whole complex to smithereens, and take everyone down with us."

Gyro glanced up at Riggs. "I'd rather we didn't blow ourselves into itsy-bitsy pieces, thank you. As for door shielding... it wouldn't stop the droids, just delay them. I believe we should just open the doors and fight, unless we can't any longer. We just have to hold delay them as long as possible, not defeat them. Then, we will have reinforcements." Gyro glanced back down at the computer. "Besides, if the Confederate scum were good enough to get the drop on us, they probably have the signal mimicked. The only way anyone is going to know, is if we ourselves warn them."

The pursuer is a well armed ship, and fast both sublight and in hyperdrive. However, it is a bit less armoured than some ships. The lack of a nav computer doesn't make hyperspace impossible, just a lot more difficult to do without crashing.

Good starting posts! As the Jedi is Kamina's character, I have pm'd him stuff to figure out how to write his next post. He will reveal part of the initial plot too, to help speed things up and get him in the game.

As for ships, at the moment it looks like the pursuer is going to be the ship in game, unless anyone wants to change it. I think I'll have it work in orderly condition, for now. Just keep in mind, the lack of a navcomputer makes hyperspace jumps difficult. If it is a stock ship, you have one unused emplacement point, and could buy a nav computer (20,00 credits and 1 emplacement point), or a limited nav computer for 2000, and no emplacement points.

Day 375 of the Clone Wars.

Coruscant Military Barracks.

Both Drunik Saller and Horachkt were ushered into waiting rooms, both separated from one another. Despite being on different sides of the military base, both rooms had similar features: several plain white chairs lining the perimeter; extremely plain, un-scuffed white walls and floor; a smooth ceiling only marred by a couple bright lights; and a strong cleaner like smell. Additionally, by the door stood a clone trooper, standing silently, gun in hand. Both were kept there a long, nearly unbearable time.

In Horachkt's room, the clone trooper opened the door and called to him, " Trando! We've been summoned to the briefing room. Please, walk there." As Horachkt left the room, the clone trooper followed a couple paces behind him, enough to be out of his power hammer's reach. The clone followed like a sentinel.

As the time came for Drunik to leave, he was approached by the clone. "Sir," the clone began, " the briefing room is now ready for you. Please follow me." The clone turned, and briskly walked towards the room.

The hallways were as bland and boring as the waiting rooms, perhaps more-so with the lack of chairs. The clones moved quickly, keeping conversation to a minimum. They walked in a droid-like fashion towards the room, making sure that Horackt and Drunik were only a few paces away.

Horachkt and Durnik got to the room at nearly identical times, coming from opposite directions. One of the clones opened the door, then gestured for Horachkt and Drunik to enter, and each of them waited outside for them to leave.

Inside the room, the monotonous colour scheme continued. There were three chairs positioned around a table; two on the side facing Drunik and Horachkt, and one on the other side occupied by a Kel Dor. Standing on the left side of the Kel Dor, was yet another clone trooper; though this one had the green markings of a sergeant. As they entered to room, they Jedi stood up.

"Ah gentlemen! Please take a seat." The Kel Dor gestured to the chairs. Not waiting for them to take a seat, he began, " What is discussed here can go no further. If you do, Republic Intelligence would not be pleased." He paused for a moment, then turned to face them. " I am Jedi knight Valum Dio. The assignment you two will be getting will be incredibly dangerous. You have each been selected because you possess a skill-set that we need to successfully do this mission. This is the one time you can choose to leave, and have nothing more to do with this mission. Are you in?" Valum paused, waiting for the others to respond.

(OOC: Well, this took me a while to get up. I'm hoping to be able to post on Thursdays, but that may be difficult with University and all. Valum's name may change, as he is Kamina's character, and he didn't choose the name. This will be open until I can figure out how to limit who can post.)

Okay, so before we start, I'm wondering what ship you would like to have. I have narrowed it down to a few ships that would work in this setting. The 'Nav' at the end of ships names means the ship has a navicomputer, without one needing to be added in. It's not a requirement, but it would make your pilot checks much easier!

Pg 78 GS-100 Salvage Ship

-Star Ships of The Galaxy
PG 70 Citadel Class Cuiser Nav
PG 80 Dynamic Class Freighter Nav

Also, if everyone wanted, the ship you chose could be a ship that belonged to Salvator's character. It would not be charged on his starting credits, since a ship is required for this setting.
