I think being blind would be easier as being mute takes away the main form of communication in this world... and it is socially acceptable to be blind... but not so to be silent all the time...

Stones (noticing a stoney theme here), 'cause they will still spark after a rain. Try rubbing two wet sticks together -- not even a wisp of smoke ...

The fall itself can be quite neat depending on the circumstances, the stop just hurts, so I'd say the fall.

Take your pick:
1) Be charged with the responsibility for saving a world (you'd get the potential to do so, but you'll still be the one that has to put in the effort and work to do it)
2) Be the one that chooses and charges a person to save a world

In both cases, the charging is quite public, and so everyone would know and see (even over TV and the internet).
