Subject: ah!

WoW! Thanks so much I had no idea there was a 5E adaptation. Will be reading eagerly when I have the time!

P.S. I have internet till the 8th but will be busy

EDIT: This appears to be more 3.5 based so for now when creating your character, use the original 5E handbook. I'll get to work on making the rules and balancing mechanics and so on.

If you are interested in the setting though, you can take a look at this and the link that I posted as it will be heavily based upon it.

You can look at official dark sun setting stuff over here. I'm going to get a world history and setting up in about 2 weeks (on the 18th of may hopefully) but until then if you're curious look at this website.

http://www.athas.org/products?tag=Rulebook

I don't believe you have to pay? If you do, just google 3.5 dark sun setting.

Sorry for the lack of details everyone!

@nomad: Yea I like how clerics and paladins aren't necessary per say, they're definitely welcome but it lets people play what they want

I believe we have a paladin which is plenty of plenty of healing. As well I've noticed in fifth edition, you have plenty of natural healing via hit dice.

When you take a short rest, you can heal your health up using hit dice. (Short rests are an hour in my game)

I don't know if this is applicable in 3.5 e or 4e but I read somewhere that this is one of the differences.

Nomad, feel free to play anything you like!

Edit: As for levels... What level would you guys like to be? Fighters get a really big powerspike at level 5, so I'm probably going to level you guys quickly until then.

Hmm: Taking a look at it, most classes don't have anything till level 2. So how bout we start there? Gives people arcane tradition, reckless attack and spell slots for rangers as well. Everyone good for that? You'll be slightly better than the average run of the mill beginner adventurers but nothing too powerful

Edit: number 2, extra backgrounds. As for backgrounds, since some of the default backgrounds aren't really applicable, feel free to PM me a background and we can come up with some proficiencies that might work. As well you can use a background and rename it.
I.E: Using outlander for an exile
There is slavery so there will be an escaped background. I guess I'll homebrew it? Shoot me a PM and we can work together to find a background with proficiency and background traits that work for your character

Subject: Starting level

I'm thinking the starting level will be at 1st level with the ability scores (or standard array) either choice you desire.

However if enough people want fourth level, we can skip to that. I'm thinking first level because we can let people learn mechanics and stuff for fifth edition. I'll just level you guys quickly up to fourth/ fifth level.

As well, I'm allowing the use of this specific unearthed arcana class, the psionic which was a class in 3.5 e I believe? Feel free to take a look at it and play it if you want. This has replaced the Mages in the god-King's cities.

As for warlock, I personally love them, my first character was a warlock. Check them out in the players handbook, you might like em!

Alright keeper of dragons, barbs are cool, i have alot of ideas spinning in my head about the campaign. Looking forward to it!

Topic: Recruitment for Dark Sun setting campaign?
Subject: Some general rules about char creation

Character creation is pretty simple. Pick a race, pick a class that you'd like and one thing thats in this that i noticed wasn't in 3.5 e are backgrounds. The backgrounds represent what your character was doing previously, before they did an adventure. This will determine some of your starting equipment and your proficiency with certain skills. (Skills don't exist in 5e, where you get skill points and level stuff up for instance).

Feats at level 1 aren't available unless you're playing variant human.
To get a feat, you have to trade an ASI instead.

I rolled stats for everyone (Not too bad imo), so you can use these or standard array. (15, 14, 13, 12 ,10, 8 )
16, 13, 13, 12, 11, 9

Alternatively, if enough people ask for it, you can roll for your stats. I'm less fond of this, not b/c people can cheat, more because I've been on the bad end of bad dice rolls before. (Rolled 3 1's and a 3 for 4d6 drop lowest)

If you have any questions just lemme know

Edit: @SirSadaar: Sure, oath of the crown sounds like it would definitely fit in the campaign. There are a couple of ideas that I have as to why your character would have learned of this and how it's fueling your powers

Thanks shield It's actually good that you're here cause you can answer any mechanical questions that anyone has while I'm gone

Yea, path of the berserker lets you hit stuff more frequently, prevents people from charming you/frightening you and then lets you frighten other people

path of the totem is a more spiritual form of barbarian where you can adopt certain characteristics of animals when you rage.

I.e.: Take half damage to everything except psychic (totem of the bear), gives you a buff as a leader (pack of the wolf), eagle lets you be more maneuverable. At other levels you get more aspects of the beast.

Nimu: Yep Dark elves still exist and I believe they worship the arch demon Lolth. Exiled from what? The underdark? The world isn't as hostile as Slate per say. It's more of the difficulty of finding water/food and as a spellcaster, evading the templars.

In general, what is trouble some are the animals that have adapted and managed to survive, and the raiders which go out and steal/enslave people.

I forgot to mention this but anything from the SCAG (Sword coast's adventurers guide) should be fine.

Subject: Character creation

What level would you guys like to start at? I'm thinking since we have new people, we can start at level 1 and I'll just level you guys pretty quickly. That way, we can all get used to the system?

Nimu: Yea of course! I'd love to have you 5E is very simple compared to 3.5 E in my opinion. (Very reduced skill list, I think most classes have proficiency with like 4 or 5 skills. Spellcasting is easier as well). If you need any help just lemme know.

Nomad: Rangers are good. I'll make sure to post a map where the primal nations reside

SirSadaar: Both are fine! But Paladins may have some trouble with casting some of their spells. I might run a mechanic that Nozzle is doing for Slate and have a percentile dice rolled for certain spells with a certain chance (5-10 percent) chance of failing. Smites will still be okay though. We'll have to work out as to where you got your powers as well.

Sure i'm down for having a 5th player and alright, a good party suits me.

Evil premise would be you would be bounty hunters/ slave hunters. I like the good party more though. I'll get to work on the map. Hopefully I'll get it posted before sunday but chances of that are looking slim I'm really hoping i'll have internet on the cruise, if not we'll have to wait till maybe may 18th for a map and stuff.

If you want to play a deity, anything from the forgotten realms is good or the norse pantheon. Thing is, any knowledge about those gods would be very little as the god-king would have wiped out all records and started a new religion but those were the worshiped pantheons of the world prior to this third age

Yea I think right now, it might be leaning towards a good party? Anyways, I don't have a lot of the map fleshed out but there will be druids and rangers. Rangers and druids are more commonly accepted by the free country as their magic comes from a primal connection with nature.

However in the God-King's domain, his order will be wary against druids and anyone that can cast magic as they are possible threats.

What I have so far:

I think it would be easier to start in a city where magic is looked down upon but people are more open to it than when you get closer to the capital.

As well mechanically for spellcasting arcane things.
Very rough idea but you can cast spells without harming the earth (casting normally) but if you choose to do so, you can make the soil unfertile and all plants wither and die within a 15 foot cube centered on you to cast a spell of second or lower without spending a spell slot.

Nah, I don't think there's any stigma against elves, gnomes and tieflings might be a bit rare. Feel free to use any race from the sword coasts adventurers guide (except maybe aarakocra)

Tieflings and gnomes would be reduced in number though

Edit: Actually theres a lot of slavery involved as well. I'll have to get back to you on that but feel free to play any race in general

That sounds good then I'll try to get a map in within the month. Will be busy till may 1'st but I'm excited for this campaign! If you have any questions just lemme know.

One thing to note: If playing a wizard, make sure to hide your spell book,

As well if you are able to read, some suspicion might fall upon you. Just a side note

Subject: Arcane magic

Yea arcane magic is taboo though you can still play a wizard if you want. Just know that in some areas you'll be hunted down and a lot of people will be upset.

In the setting, the gods are silent or have died, a lot of propaganda from the king who claims that they are a god. However, feel free to play a cleric. Clerics are rare but there are ways to still wield a gods power

P.S. What type of campaign are you guys looking for? I'm going to guess a roleplay one but evil party or good party? If you have any suggestions let me know

If the dark sun setting isn't wanted though, I can just run a normal campaign in another world that I made before hand as well.

Subject: Recruitment/Interest for Dark Sun setting campaign? (5E DND)

heya guys, planning on running a game in the next month or so and I just wanted to gauge some interest. It's going to be DND 5E, in a dark sun setting.

For those of you that don't know what that is, here's a small blurb about it

It is a world where magic drains the very essence of life. Ancient wars have left vast swaths of the planet sterile; even now, druids fight a losing battle to preserve the environment. To practice magic is to tempt death at the hands of the mob, yet the cities themselves are ruled by the most powerful of defilers.

It's going to be in a world that I homebrewed, if enough people express interest, I'll make a map and have a bit more information about it. Hoping to hear from you guys soon

Try not to get into too many shenanigans without me

EDIT: About the combat, I wouldn't mind doing it in chat or doing it in Q&A either. Both of those options sound good. We could also do it normally, I check on the site regularly enough as I'm sure a few others do as well so?

One thing guys, I will be away from May 1st to May 15th on a cruise, I hope I'll have internet but most likely I'll have to pay for internet, so I won't be able to post. Don't let me stop you though, keep posting and I'll trust Nomad to handle my character appropriately

Damian nodded in agreement and ran towards Daxos, intending to aid him but as he stepped forward to lift the man up but as Daxos brought the man towards the shelter, he realized he did not require aid. Walking towards the man, he lifted his hands up in a peaceful gesture. He spoke softly but urgently:

"I have no desire to kill you. My name is Damian. Let us bring her inside and we shall see what we can do for her.".

(Assuming he's peaceful)

Damian quickly checks to see she's alive but regardless, he attempts to lift her body and drag her into the enclosure if he cannot. Assuming she is alive, Damian would quickly check to see where her focus is/ component pouch and take that away from her. Sweaty from the work, he wipes his brow and inquires towards the cleric:

"Does someone have a healing spell? We'll also have to replenish the water. Are you able to do so Father Tolly? I may be able to aid you.. I have apparently been blessed with magic.".

(OOC: Tries to parley with the axeman, bring the woman inside and heal her.)
