Just glancing at the character sheets, I noticed that you have a lot of skill proficiencies Eol.

how did you grab that?  As far as I know, Fighter gets to pick 2, Background gives you 2 and then your race might give you one more.

I'll be posting my char sheet tonight btw, Gonna shameless rip Eols formatting

haha Bory sounds wonderfully fun!  Excited to meet him.

Concerning Karos, I am actually wondering if I should go play him as a tiefling.  They are allowed in the world right?  And hopefully not discriminated against... (though i could use that)

Love the sketch Eol!  It looks fantastic  I'm a terrible artist so I was picturing something akin to what I draw, (which is basically stick figures and rough notes beside it)..

Really liking the image of the character!!

As for what you have proposed, that is great.  I was wondering if, (I think his name is Karos) would have interacted with you before or your order and have seen you around.  That way, perhaps he sought help from you/ your organization beforehand and got it, then tried to venture off and you found him beaten up and broken.

That way it would A) Establish that he trusted you enough to ask for help
B) He knows that he cannot venture off on his own and again, you helped him without him even asking you.

Lemme know what you think!

I really like the 1st idea.  The second idea is what I had in mind, needing a group for protection and security but I'd much rather have a solid idea/motivation to really stick with the group when the going gets tough.

If you wanna come up with a method for our two chars to know each other that would be appreciated!

As for the barbarian Urchin, If we wanna know each other as well, I"d be happy to do that.

The third option I don't really want to do... I've had a lot of issues with group PVP and it doesn't end well... At least in my experience.  I had to leave a campaign because of some IC issues that leaked into OoC hatred.

The pair of individuals quickly converse in this dimly lit alleyway, with the figure having long vanished. Having reached an agreement to the discussion, the two of them make their way to the pastor, the one Damian told Alexander to go talk to.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, at the table with McRath and the Pastor.

“I’ve seen my share of weird, Pastor,” Colum shares warily, looking at the other man from beneath his brow, his head slightly dipped. “There’s a very real fight, that’s for certain. It takes a special someone to handle that fight and often requires more’n a sermon.” Glancing about at the crowd milling in proximity, McRath decides to take the plunge. “This white-suited fella seems to be always in the mix or thereabouts from what I hear. You gonna go looking for him?”

The pastor smiles knowingly at him, having taken a bit of a leap in order to tease this line out from him.  He sits back down, settling in comfortably, glancing around at the rest of the crowd who for the most part have shifted into eating food rather happily, the chit chat focusing more towards upcoming events versus dark times.

Pastor Jeremy is in the area, smiling happily and chatting with people while having another plate of food.  He appears to be promoting these new bible study groups, called small groups.

The pastor slides the package over to McRath.  "It's nice to know that another man of the cloth has seen the darkness, and lived to tell the tale.".  He takes his hat off, putting it on the table, folding his hands and looking at him.

"This.. man in white.  I don't know how much of it is heresay and how much of it is truth.  But one thing I know for sure is that I'm gonna be on the case.".

At this point, A rather disheveled looking teenager and a man dressed in a work suit (may need to edit?) that comes up to their table.

"Hello".  The pastor says, getting to his feet with a smile.  "How can I help you?"

((OOC: I'm rather excited that we have the party all together

I'm leaning more towards the arcane trickser

thinking that'll be using magic to disguise himself while he pulls cons off, constantly lying and trying to hide his true identity.

Only issue i'm gonna need a reason to stick together with the party.  My first rule when making a rogue is come up with why they don't screw with the party..

I'll put a backstory once I get some more thinking done.  As for now here's what I have

Human: Lived in?

Perhaps an urchin that made a living by stealing little bits of food and sharing em
Was part of a very tightknit group of friends
Grew up, started pulling bigger jobs, some that actually had a gold piece or two instead of the usual silver
One of his very close friends started dabbling in magical arts
Perhaps due to the stigma with magic, some in the group didn't like it
Eventually he was curious and started watching her practice
Someone betrayed them, ,reported her to the organization?
He burned her spellbook to prevent the evidence against her, but kept one page?
She got taken away
He was framed to be the one who told the guard,
Got a sum of gold that was ridiculous (compartively, I think urchins start off with like 5 or 10 gp?)
The group chased him away

Motivations
Find the bastard that told the person
Find a new group that he is able to work with

I need a motivation that makes him keep his word though....  I'll tweak it some more but what do you guys think?

As for the post this week, Will you guys be coming up the stairs to meet the Pastor?  I'll update as soon as you guys tell me

I appreciate the disclaimer about rolling up whatever you want

As for DnD party comps, one of the things that I like about this edition is that it doesn't really need any class.  I know a topic that I learned when I first started playing is that clerics or healing isn't even necessary which is rather nice.

So for now I have 2 char concepts I'm considering

Arcane trickster Human (variant if allowed) with the Actor feat,
Meant to lie and talk out of his way out of anything, (backstory not decided yet)

or

Valour Bard (Half elf)
Meant to be a supportive character that buffs everyone else and is the face of the party. Going to be focused on telling stories of old and performing them.  Main motivation would be to go out and find new stories to have, either through talking to others and learning new stories or by being one of the heroes in the story.

I think so far we have a martial class and nothing else has been decided.  Druids are probably fine?

I'm actually interested to hear more about how spellcasters are regulated as well though.

I haven't decided anything else but I was thinking of going a bow wielding support bard, college of valour.  That way he could be a spellcaster but wouldn't have to show it...  Thinking of being on the wrong side of the law

I'd be happy to fill in any backline that we need though, I"m pretty flexible.

Haha it certainly has been a long time since I have posted so it's not a problem at all
Concerning this week's post I will have it out by wednesday.  however since Nomad and Eol are talking, I don't think I"ll be able to do much there so if you two wanna post as much or as little as you guys want, feel free to.

I'm not entirely sure how to handle it through play by post so if someone also wants to enlighten me, I wolud appreciate it

I'm not sure how it worked in previous dnd games but there are tags that a weapon can have that changes them.   If you're planning on being a dex char, you won't be able to use the spear effectively because it doesn't have the finesse tag.

The finesse weapons off the top of my head are dagger, shortswords, scimitars and rapiers.

Im looking forward to hearing more about your char

Sounds good!  I can build a char once the lore starts coming in.  I can fill whatever role you guys need me To as well

Concerning martial class with magic abilities, i would recommend taking a look at fighter, subclass eldritch knight.

Either that or warlocks.

Eks focus more on martial prowess, warlocks focus more on magical abilities

I'm perfectly fine with starting at level 1.

I have a few char concepts that I could do, as a GM, you always have a ton of char concepts but you never get the opportunity to play them

Concerning XGE, not a problem, I can easily make use of PHB stuff  Though I do have to ask...  PHB spells as well?  So nothing from Elemental evil for instance.

I wouldn't classify myself an expert but I do have a lot of experience so I'd be happy to help out with char sheets.  Just shoot me a PM and I'd be happy to go through everything.

I'm not the GM but I'd be happy to help out with char creation at least.  I got started with TTRPG games with 5e and I think it's the most friendliest towards new players.

If anyone also needs the resources for it, you can PM me and ill point you towards the right direction to find some

In my experience, Level 3 is good because you're just starting to realize your class features, typically get your subclass archetype feature then which is nice.   Level 5 is good because theres' a big power spike  for martial classes and spell casters.  Martials get second attack and spell casters get third level spells.

I'm comfortable playing at whatever level you want, though levels 1 and 2 are a bit nerve racking due to the fragileness of player characters

Heya Lady Dark

I'd certainly in be interested in playing a character.  I would love to play some Xanathar's guide to everything classes but PHB works for me!
Sounds like the world you're running would be cool.  I'm excited to hear more about it
