Topic: The Chakran Portal - an Adventure in Audalis
Subject: Geim

So much for his words of wisdom to the group. Geim grimaced as he watch Kurok run forward towards the skull that was the "ball" in this game. Thondrek raced after him a second later.

Geim did his best to go with them Perhaps they could hit the orcs hard with a front line of dwarves and make the orcs think twice, perhaps they would get their heads handed to them on a platter. The three dwarves did have one thing going for them a low center of gravity.

Geim asks for a blessing on them all more out of habit when they went into battle. This was a much a battle as anything fought with weapons and armor.

Subject: Geim

Geim was awake and had eaten one of the potatoes that was thrown unceremoniously in their cage. He didn’think he has rested long enough to get his spells back, though had a few words for Kharox. “Kharox, if you could just give me half of my spells back because tthese buggers are not likely to let me sleep or rest long enough to regain them in the normal manner.”

He was leery of the activity that suddenly seem to center on their cage. The sun had already passed its highest point, and something was going on around the cage. Activity had picked up in the camp. Goblins were running up and down with wooden planks and poles, small groups of orcs strolled leisurely towards the west side of the cage and talked wildly amongst each other. Words that were picked up were ‘match’, ‘maggots’ and ‘bootskull’. More than once, a glance was cast at the prisoners, followed by smirks and elbow banging.

Not long after, orcs and goblins carrying spears approached the cage, gathering around it. They formed two lines, one on either side of the cage’s door. Then, a familiar group of orcs approached, walking between the two lines. The spear-wielding masses pounded the ends of their weapons against the ground in an ominous crescendo. The group of orcs, the seven who had been watching the cage earlier that day, was clad in spiked metal shoulder-pads, leather armor and leopard loin-cloths. As they arrived at the cage, one of the guards opened the door and made way for the leader of the orcish seven. He was the largest of them all, which is usually the case in orcish culture, and his skin proved that he had survived his share of attempts to take his life.

“Follow us.” It grunted in the common tongue.

Geim knew that he was in no good shape to be involved in such a brouhaha, nor were his companions.

“Listen up my friends, this game their talking about is an excuse for carnage. Don’t get caught with the bal, throw it way a as quickly as possible and stay out of their way. Our best bet to to stick together, duck and dodge. None of us can take much of a beating in our condition. “Though I would like to try to pound them into the ground, it isn’t in our best interest to do so.

Siliwen watches Alea's preparations with interest. That rope around the middle is a good idea. The rope will act like a safety just in case she fell. Then it could be used to bring her equipment over after she crosses.

"Take care, Alea. That rope trick is a good idea I think we should all use it that way we can pull our things over afterwards. before the the last person goes we should pull their things over and then as well that the second to last person's,. plus the rope they have tied on. When they cross we still have a safety rope in our hands to help whomever is last."

Siliwen stops for a moment. "I hope you understood what I said. Well never mind I will keep it in mind as we go along."

Subject: Bronwyn

Bronwyn watched as the one gnoll she had already hit with Magic Missile run off into the forest screaming. Well he will certainly stir up the pot and get it boiling once he gets back to where he is going.

Bronwyn didn't want to be here when he got back. If she could fun away from her that would be even better. Only she didn't have the ability to do that. Instead she turns to Elendil who is moving forward towards the cage. A very bloodied Elendil.

"Oh Goddess." gasps Bronwyn as she moves closer to join Elendil. Elendil's leg and side were bloody with several ragged rents in her armor. Then she sees the captive in the cage.

"Hello, who are you?" Bronwyn asks, but stands at a comfortable distance from he cage not sure who or what is inside of it. To her human eyes it is a darkish bent over shape since it is in the too small cage.

"If you are going to get him out Elendil I suggest you do it quick. We have to get out of here before the creature that got away comes back with others."

"Hurry. We need to get to my Buttercup and get out of here."

Subject: Arianna decides

Arianna looked around at those who had pledged themselves to Gunther's quest. A cleric, a fighter and the barbarian himself. Not one of them as familiar with the wilds as she was at one with the natural world. She had come this way to make a name for herself This might just be the start she needed. IT was certainly better than sitting around here waiting.

Arianna stands quietly and moves silently forward from where she was sitting near the hearth. Her dark green cloak elegantly trimmed with embroidered vines and leaves at the hem and front edges. Her hood was still up but she drops it when she spoke. Her features are pure elven though her coloring is rather vibrant from one of her kind. Her hair is a rich dark auburn, and dark very reddish brown. By contrast her skin is very pale like fine cream. Most striking is her great lavender almond shaped eyes with fine auburn brows arch high as is typical for her kind.

In contrast to the to barbarian Gunther she seems more like a child. short, a little under five feet and slender in comparison, except if one is observant her face though ageless in not that of a youth's. There is a keen awareness of herself and her surroundings. and a sureness in her movements. The grace of her races is clearly evident in her movements.

"I am Arianna Evensong, an Elven Ranger. I too would join you in your quest. I know the forest and wilds, and the flora and fauna. My skills can help you pass through the wild lands easier." Arianna's Common is lightly accented slightly and has a lilting song like quality.

Easier on the members of the quest and on the lands and animals as well is what Arianna thought but did not say. Her ways were not their ways.

Brianna catches sight of the young human entering. That is her first assumption based on his coloring until he turn to face her. His features and build are elven. She thinks he may be a half-breed. No elves in her lands have such a skin coloring

He goes over to get a room and drink and then make his way over to the table when Xuor and she are drinking. Brianna likes his open look and as he walks closer is eager to met another local. She is about to greet him when he beats her to it.

"Does one of you two own that horse in the stable, the black stallion? Their is something unearthly about it."

"Own him, I do not, His is not ownable, but I ride him. Unearthly is also not a word I have used to describe him, but since he is not from this world I daresay others may use it, the word is appropriate.

I am Brianna Stormrider, These are my friends Xuor, Lorae, Logan and Vatta she continues and points to each--and your name?"

How wide is the bridge?

Does the ring cut it off the other side entirely?

Is it still growing in size?

Is there any way to get by the ring staying on the bridge, so that swing on a rope and by pass section held by someone on the bridge but not up to the ring and get them swinging and perhaps get them to the other side?

Brianna gave good-natured laugh and Xuor long speech.

"Whoa there Xuor, you sure use a lot of words to say a few things. You certainly don't have to ask my permission to get us rooms. Though I daresay we could have doubled up to save some money, though we don't need to right now so that doesn't matter. You just go ahead and take care of things like that id you want to you know this world better than Lorae and I do. Your money here is all different form what Brianna nods at Xuor's assessment of those of the group remaining. "I knew so I can't figure out what is a good price or not. So thank you for handling that."

Brianna nods is agreement with Xuor's assessment of the remain members of the group.

"Yes, I think we have the makings of a good group. We lost two good ones though. Highnar was a doughty fighter to be sure, and Cerric surely had a way with magic and healing. Though Lorae can heal too, so that is a blessing." She takes another long drink of her ale and then changes the topic of conversation.

"Lets go see that bowyer and fletcher as soon as we finish our tankards. We can come back and drink more later," she gives Xuor and quick wink.

Brianna played hard, fought hard and lived hard, especially in the last 3 years of her life. Which had reformed her from the gentler girls she had been in her youth into something her family would not have recognized in her. Her mother and sisters, had then been alive still would not have recognized Brianna as the same child they had known. Their deaths were a big part of the change in Brianna's life. Vengeance now drove her, though tempered a bit by the Goddess by the huge slap down she had been given after she had tried to return to her homeland with an avenging army at her back.

Brianna did not see the sudden look of sadness that had crept onto her face, nor the faraway look in her eyes. She held her drink up halfway to her mouth, but it did not move one way of the other for a time.

Suddenly the tankards move and Brianna drain the last of its contents in one long draught, then set the tankard down with a thunk.

"Ready when you are." She mood switched back to normal, at least seeming to be normal.

He head was muzzy as he finished the last of his healing spells. Luckily he had used the hightles t level spells first. He found it harder and harder to concentrate but the tough dwarf kept at it. He could barely keep his head up. Geim longed to rest but it was not to be

The orcs noticed the first of the companions fall into slumber, they sent two of them away, who soon returned with a set of drums and wooden clubs. It was their turn to treat the heroes to a taste of their musical skills--which were abominable. The drummer knew to keep a pace, but the other orcs slammed their clubs into the metal bars of the cage in a unrhythm that was so out of beat that it was an art in itself. There would be no sleeping in quite a while.

Geim, never-the-less, prayed to Kharox, clearly speaking those ancient words of worship to Kharox. Then he put down his head he tried to focus on the drumbeat which had a rhythm and ignore the bangs and bashes on the cage from the clubs of the orcs. He tried anyway. Ir was a matter of focus and concentration and he gave it all he had, He knew eventually he would sleep because at sometime he would be so deprived that all that noise would make no difference.

“Come on you old Khord.” he told himself “Just think of it like your mother’s lullaby when she sang you to sleep.

Bronwyn was surprise when suddenly the lead gnoll falls with two arrows in her chest, Elendil had apparently started the fight without a word to her. With the wand at the ready she lifted it quickly and targeted the guard in that back of the cage. Her missile struck true but didnot down him. It almost fatal fascination the gnoll guard drew his bow and knocked an arrow and aimed it at Bronwyn. The two other gnolls carrying the cage dropped in unceremoniously and charged in the woods at Elendil with axes drawn Bronwyn feared for her . It happened before her eyes as she was seemingly frozen in place--it seemed like forever but was only a movement.

“Amaterrana I am a good person, protect me. Maiden, pure, I am a virgin protect me.”

The gnoll drew his bowstring back and then......his bow broke and smashed him in his face.

That broke the spell, that held Bronwyn frozen instead of being a deer startled in the light she took a(5 ft.) step towards Elendil and spoke the arcane words that sent three energy sparks flying at he gnolls attacking Elendil. She held Burning Hands Spell ready to cast if the gnoll with the broke bow came after her.

Tell me if I am right in thinking that this ring is vertical in the air at right angles to the bridge, that it is spanning it from side to side and like a big ring bisenting the middle of the bridge seperateing one end from the other. likt the Startgate sort of just hangingthere in the air and growing outward.

Or is it horizontal to the ground?

Yes, Yes there is something that is growing in brightness and size. I don't know what it is. The magic is unfamiliar to me. I just know it is not a good thing for anyone to touch it though I don't know how I know that. Please believe me. It is a huge ring of energy just about the middle of the bridge now.

Bronwyn Stared in disbelief When Elendidl said she waas going to go after the Gnolls, Gnolls were big and strong and more animal than person.

Elendil said there were only four but it might as well have been fourty or four hundred for all the difference it made to Bronwyn.

"I am not going to recuse someone with four Gnolls and who knows how many other goblins and orcs are about."

Elendil just looked at the smae human woman actually more girl than woman and nodded "Okay you stay here. I will fo what I can myself."

Bronwyn stood firm until she saw Elendil vanishing into the night-the her courage failed "Wait, you can't leave me here by myself. Bronwyn exclaims although lowly. She hurries forwrd tucking her robes in tightly to her body. She take out one wand and taps herself giving herself mage armor. then puts it away and takes out her wand of magic misiles.

"Don't leave me here with who knows how many goblins, orcs and gnolls running around." Bronwyn hurries to follow Elendil. "Elendil let me give you Cat's Grace before you do anything. It may help you." Bronwyn mind quickly tries to figure out what spells she has that could be used in a fight. Color Spray would be good if she could get them looking her way. she tucked the end of her robe into her belt and followed in Elendil's footsteps.
