Topic: When the Silence Breaks...
Subject: Arianna Evensong

The Burning Treant Tavern, located out in the harbor district alongside the Carheain Lake, had been frequented by a particularly loud tenant the past three days, each day at dawn staking out a place in the common room, and staying until well after midnight, presenting his story each time there was a large turnover in the patrons.

Arianna entered the common room from down the stairs that led to the room she had shared with another traveler last night. She was ready for breakfast and some quiet time to decided what she was going to do next, The roughly dress Northern barbarian, who reminded her more of a grizzle bear than a man, just finished his speech, yet again. She had entered this inn late yesterday and had heard him repeat the same tale several times that night. Arianna had read the notice he was referring to at another shop where she stopped but moved on from not liking the prices. She believed he was sincere but she was not very interested in the quest he was seeking companions for. She turned away to place an order when she hear another voice with a familiar accent to the common tongue speak out in the common room.

“Tell me, man of the North, is this quest of yours related to what is posted on the notices about this town,”came the Dur’mani accented voice in common.

Arianna turned to locate where the voice was coming from. There she was a slender figure, unmistakably Dur’mami in shades of gray, who stood up to address the great bear of a man. Her hair was a striking red-gold while, Arianna’s was of deepest auburn with golden highlights and she wore shades of green to honor her goddess Candri. While Arianna was not a cleric, she still wore Candri’s holy symbol of a full-grown elm tree on a neck cord, Arianna had carved it herself with loving detain out of a branch of elm that had been snapped off in a windstorm. Pale skinned like most elves in that they were similar. Except Arianna’s creamy complexion was tanned by all the time she spent out in the open under the sun.

Arianna was good at noticing things, it was vital to her chosen path, and whether in field or forest or in cities her alertness to small details was crucial. Despite the sword at the woman’s side and the bow and quiver, Arianna did not believe she was a fighter, not with that musical instrument case and the cut of her clothes and her very pale skin. The woman’s skin was not that of a warrior or ranger that lived and worked out of doors a lot. Arianna also noticed how she spoke with her hands and body, a bard of some sort Arianna thought, certainly more bard than fighter.

Another added his voice in respinse to Gunther’s plea.

"I, for one, know the value of gifts and favours from ancestors and and ancestral gifts. I also know the difference between the two. Given any chance to redeem onself in the eyes of the ancestors is an opportunity not to be taken lightly. For one as short-lived as your yourself and your kind, Gunther, to recognize that is both interesting and impressive. I, Motolov Cogsnail, will pledge myself, and my axe -- both servants of Atlam the Mighty one -- to your cause. There was mention of registry, signing marks, and information? Are you the person to whom I speak to provide these things?

Well now Gunther had one companion who had sworn himself to the quest he sought to undertake, The Dwarf was built by nature to do such things as adventuring out in forbidding areas. Arianna hoped that the elven woman would not join up for her own sake.

Bronwyn senses were on high alert, adrenalin flowing in her veins. When Elendil stops t peer through some bushes she just freezes. While Bronwyn wished she could see what was going one, only getting bits and pieced through the leaves, she was not willing to risk trying to see more. She could understand some of what was going since she knew goblin but not what the orcs were saying except from the tone of their guttural voices They seemed to be barking commands at the goblins. She could here the voice of the prisoner as well.

The pounding she heard in her own ears was not just her bloods pulsing through her veins. She heard the drums begin pounding, one very near and others further out. Bronwyn was firmly convinced she should not be here. She could hear the sounds of them gathering together, weapons banging, armor clanking through the forest, they didn't make any attempt to hide their actions. That was a bad sign. Apparently Elendil made the same decision she grabbed Bronwyn's arm and pulled her back into deeper cover, but then she suddenly Elendil pulled Bronwyn down.

Bronwyn fell into a huddle she did not know what Elendil had seen anything but she complied hoping that they would crawl out of there. Instead Elendil took part of her cloak and threw it over Bronwyn. Keeping her hand jammed in her mouth and her wand tightly gripped in her hand, Bronwyn made like a rock. Only this rock shivered.

Bronwyn, the reluctant, lead by the unqualified, froze as Elendil peered out to survey what they had found. she was able to see a little of it but did not risk trying to see more. She had seen enough for her. Ti was time to depart and apparently Elendil had the same idea.

Elendil pulled Bronwyn into thicker cover but rather than them leaving Elendil pulled her down to the ground and covered her up with her cloak. Bronwyn made like a rock only rocks did not shiver as she did. She stuck her hand in her mouth hard and gripped her wand tightly but did not dare to move.

Inga sat back down when the Lt. Kenan told her to stay put while he took care of propping up Pearson. The Lt. used Pearson's pack and wedged it behind him, taking time to look at Inga for approval. Inga gave a nod and a smile. "Yes, SIr that is just fine."

Right now she wished she was a fully fledge doctor. That is what S. Sgt. Lee needed most of all and hospital facilities. But that was not what he had. He only had her, and her med kit and her knowledge. Inga did her best and hoped fervently that that was enough to keep him alive.

Inga would have like to rest her head but sitting up straight was the best she could do right now since bending over and compressing her ribs was painful. Pain was an excellent indicator of what not to do. She did pull her riffle up and held it ready.

Bronwyn followed Elendil as they moved through the forest, not daring to whisper and taking extra care to move as quietly as possible. When Elendil finally stopped. Bronwyn was thankful.

"Elendil," she whispers to the Ranger. "Remember we heard that they had a captive, but if there are a lot of them then the two of us are not enough to free whoever it is. Even if you find it is some poor wretch they have taken we wouldn't stand a chance against a large group of goblins."

Elendil made it clear then what she was planning. Bronwyn neither wanted to stay here or go. She wanted to leave the area completely. Elendil was adamant though and after tying up Buttercup securely Elendil started forward.

"I don't want to go but I can't stand not knowing what is going on." What she meant was she was afraid to be here by herself. "Just go slow and scout it out then let me know I might have a few spells that will work if the group is small if not let's leave."

Bronwyn reluctantly followed. Her fears from earlier again pressed her heart into her throat. She took her time carefully stepping one foot after the other while she listened for any noises that might indicate movement around her. Her pulses pounded hard, s loud in her ears, she was afraid that someone might hear them.

Bronwyn takes in a full breath once the goblin falls and then blows it out. She bends to check the fallen goblin to make sure he is quite dead and then moves forward cautiously and slowly, wand at the ready. The night is darker under the trees and what starlight and moonlight filters down to the ground is dappled with deeper shadows.

Hoping to join up again with the Ranger, Bronwyn frantically scans the area with her eyes and ears. She can't see far but she is now alert to every sound about her. She keeps her concentration on her Magic Missile spell. She does not dare call out and risk more goblins finding her before she found Elendil.

Brownwyn sudenly started as she heard a moise ahead of her. She stood reay with spell and wand and the steps came closer she was ready to let fly as soon as a goblin stepped out, which was fortunate for Elendil when she appeared in her mottled clothes a few paces from Bro=nwyn.

"Thank goodness it was you, however, I was about to fry you. Now lets get out of here quickly.

Bronwyn looked aghast as Elendil said there were more up the way with a possible captive and she was planning to take them on.

Bronwyn gasps lowly,"You must be kidding."

"My magic missle would work on the closest but I fear the further one is out of my range. I have two missiles per each cast I make," Silwen whispers.

"Riddle you can try throwing your dagger at the closest one perhaps between us we can bring him down but I do not know how tough they are. Archers can target the furthest. Billy and you can race out and attack the nearest after I cast my Magic Missiles."

Siliwen turns to Billy wondering if his code of battle would let her cast her Magic Missiles first before anyone declared battle.. Then again perhaps they should try to run in without her and she can target the creature afterwards. She will have to wait until Billy speaks his mind. She owed him that respect.

Hmm of course we could try trickery. Yes take the long shots attack the closest but yell at them that they have killed me with ther constant attacks against our party. That way they may not send their message on to teh Dark One.

IF I can find some cover to hide in and still use my magics to help you all I could do that.

Corporal Johannsen looked over worriedly when Cpl. Pearson began coughing. The grimace of pain was clearly evident as the spasm wracked his bruised, batter, and most likely broken body.

Inga had taped his ribs up as best she could with the Lieutenant's help but at best iit only would help him a bit. He needed medical attention, something more than she could provide here.

She checks how Kane is doing first and then moves over to Pearson to check him out. The one thing she hopes not to see is any blood around his mouth or nose.

"How are you doing Corporal Pearson?" Inga asks with her best bedside manner and she checks him out thoroughly, pulse, breath rate, temperature, dialation of his eyes. Pearson was currently stabilized and she would do her best to keep him that way.

"I want to get you into a reclining position and not on your back but I don't want you to do anything but lie there." Inga tells Pearson

Normally Inga could have gotten him up without help but not in her current condition, and if she had needed help she would not have asked their ranking offier. but her was the only one she had to ask. They were a team though and in this mess so she did not hesitate to ask for needed help.

"Lt. Keenan, Sir I need you assistance. I need something to prop Col. Pearson up on so he is not on his back like this and I need a hand getting him up into a reclining position."

"Ohhhhh OWwww Uuuuuh,"Geim moans and groans pitifully hoping his friends while come over to help him. He has spells left and he can dump them all for healing.

"Och, I hurt so bad." he wails raggedy. Then in a softer woice, "Get the others to help ye out I will heal all I can."

Geim plans to use his Cure Critcals on Elessarae and Malius, then Cure Moderate on Loda, and Thondrek, and whenever else he has on Draven and himself. He saves one for the winged creature still on the floor. However it is a fight to maintain concentration so he can cast Kharox's divine spells. He is hurt, but he has suffered worse before and so he toughs it out.

"Kharox, it would be mighty fine if you help my healing spells just a bit more that usual to help us out. Seeing as how we are in the midst of goblins and a lot of other nasties.

After spending all his healing Geim turns towards the strangely colored Khord in their midst, chained solidly to the cage they were all in.

"You say you're Chak, do ye?" he whispers, "I am Geimedahfer, Cleric of Kharox. Most call me Geim. I'd shake you hand, but you are a bit tied up for sure."

Bronwyn watches in horror as the goblin warrior threatens to kill her and heaves his spear right at her. She grips her wand and speaks the arcane word to trigger the wand to deliver yet another arcane bolt of energy. The sparkling speck if eldritch energy flew swiftly from the end of her wand at the terrifying goblin who threatened her life.

Bronwyn had been told that goblins were smallish creatures and cowardly as well, but they were not that small and their aspect was horrifying in the dark of the night with no one about to help her. She watched the spark fly and got ready to loose another if necessary.

Strangely enough some of her abject fear faded for the moment. Her world had narrowed down to this time and place, and this goblin before her. Bronwyn took a deep breath to steady her nerves. She had her trusty wand in hand gripped firmly and the foe in her sight. She would be damn if she let this goblin hill her without striking back.

Her forefathers had fought for the land her family owned, They had tamed it so they could make a life for themselves and their descendants. She was of that same sturdy stock. This was her patch of land. She had a right to be here and this green horror had no right to drive her from it.

Cerric rode quietly with the group. He had not spoken at all they had left the Ashbenford. His last conversation with Vatta, had driven her away. He hoped he would be able to mend the fence that had been raised between them he knew he had overstepped some boundary she had set about herself. He was also troubled by other events that he had not shared with the others because he was uncertain of when or where the reoccurring vision would force him to leave the party. He only knew with a certainty that he had to go.

However, Cerric had put it aside, not forgotten, but he would not waste what time he had wondering when the time would come. He hoped he would have time to mend the fence, so to speak with Vatta. Mend it and stay on the other side for now.

That was when he saw the sign with the name of the town. Cerric drew rein abruptly no really believing his eyes.

That was part of his vision, that was his sign to leave. His heart dropped for a moment as he realized what it meant. Brianna was riding off into the town as he sat still holding his horse form following the others.

"Lorae, he called out. "I must leave you here. I am sorry I will be unable to continue with you on you quest. I have been called for another task. I did not know when i would have to go until now. He points to the painted sign with the paladin's helm under the town's name."

He turns he horse and start back down the trail pausing a few paces from Vatta's mount. "I regret only that I must leave before I can apologize for causing you distress. I would not..........ever want to hurt you. Now, I must go. Perhaps when I have finished what I have been called to do I can return, if not, fare thee well, Vatta."

Cerric turns his horse to retrace the path they took into this town and turned westward to where his visions lead him. For the first time in a long while Cerric wished his life was his own to do with what he will. But he served his deity with head and soul and heart, though part of his heart was left behind.

Bronwyn wanted to drop far back the ranger so as to give Elendil a chance to move silently without Bronwyn blowin it for the elf ranger, but Bronwyn could not risk losing sight of Elendil in the dark shadows under the tree cover. She wished she knew the spell Darkvision but she had never considered that spell worth much in her line of work. In normal conditions it was almost useless one to learn. What other spells might she need before this madcap trek through the woods was over. She lists up slick and talks to her.

"Help me keep on the elf's trail."

Bronwyn then set the weasel down on the ground trusting Slick's senses more than her own. The weasel scurried off a few feet and waited for Bronwyn to move forward with the pony in tow. Everything she owned was on that pony for what she wore and a silvered dagger on her belt and two belt pouches the money inside her tunic and the potion pouch on a cord around her neck

"Fine then," grumbles Bronwyn, not totally mollified. "Just go slow I can hardly see a thing."

Bronwyn scowled at Elendil's remark of putting herself in the captives place. She didn't like thinking about some poor person held captive by goblins. Not that she liked goblins they were always a bother stealing foods, and goods from those less protected. However their farmlands situated as they were deep into civilized lands did not suffer as many raids as did the borderlands.

SHe couldn't keep the thoughts of the captive out of her head though she said nothing. No reason to give Elendil any idea that she had some qualms abut her earlier decision. not to get involved.

Bronwyn watched in silence while Elendil apparently disregarded everything she mentioned about how this was a very "bad" idea and the elven ranger went about preparing her pony;s feet and tying her jaw shut so buttercup could not whinny at the wrong time.

IN silence and in growing anger Bronwyn looked on, a mulish look came over her face and her stubborn jaw clenched tightly, as Elendil continued to do what she did without regarding Bronwyn's wishes in this matter. Her grandfather and grandmother knew that look well. Bronwyn didn't like being force to do something she did not want to, she got "mulish" as her grandfather put it.

When Elendil had finished with her preparations and told Bronwyn to follow her and step where she stepped. The look on her face grew even more mulish.

"No." Bronwyn whispers more forcefully.

THen d Bronwyn drops her voice for fear of being heard, "Didn't you hear anything I said? You can't expect me to go tearing off after goblins in strange forest we know nothing about in the dark when I can't see five feet in front of me and with a pony in tow. Bronwyn ignored the salient act of an almost full moon riding high in the night sky as that fact would not help her argument. If it would have she would have used it.

Slick, her familiar, sensed her mood and chittered nervously as she clung tightly to Bronwyn's long jerkin covering her traveling clothes a gray tunic splotchy tunic tunic over gray splotchy pants. Those gray clothes were not her choice either but she had gone along with it then because it made some sense then--but not this idiocy.

Slick, her familiar, nearly wrapped his slender weasel's body around her neck and clung hard to her shoulders, luckily her ankle knee-length jerkin covering her tunic and pants was of stout cloth of the Grandmothers weaving. That at least she did not let the Ranger dye with those strange splotches of color.

Bronwyn had places to go and things to accomplish. Chasing goblins back towards their camp, with who knows how many of the little buggers were there, was not one of them.

"No, I paid you to take me safely through this area and this could not be remotely considered a safe thing to do."

Strangely while she argued vehemently against Elendil's plans, one part of her well trained mind was going over spells that could be useful. Not that she would mention this to Elendil no use fueling the madness.

Bronwyn laid a hand on Elendil looking her in the eye and shaking her head as the Goblins leave to move down the trail, most likely to their camp. Only when they are well away from the place they were hiding does she dare whisper to Elendil. sharing her thoughts with the elven ranger.

“I don’t think we can do anything for that captive. There is only the two of us. Also, I am no fighter. Even following them is risky for just the two us because I am not good at sneaking around in the forest. I can see the keep but I wouldn’t hold out any luck of finding help there. They probably would;n''t help some unlucky traveler nobles are like that. But in truth, I don't think the goblins would be in this area so close to the keep, they are cowards at heart unless in overwhelming numbers."
