No kidding.  It's bad enough to NPC Midge, but he's had so little life breathed into him, anyway, that it's not as big of a deal.  Arancon has been played the entire time, and is the party leader... I hated to reduce him to an NPC.

To get a player of Reralae's caliber is a boon I hadn't even dared to hope for.

Butterfly present,

And happy to be here

For the record, I may have to swap Arancon's gender, just because one of my limitations I've found is getting into the headspace of a male character. It's like trying to use a zip disk in a cd drive for me.

Easiest thing to do might be to just do the 'character was always this way' retcon, unless Olan would like an opportunity to have Aranwen claimed by something spooky and replaced by his counterpart in the same event (mirrors and shadows come to mind...) I imagine that doesn't fit in this flavour of spookiness though.

The only issues I see with a retcon are the facts that "Arancon" is a male name, and that he hooked up with Davena back at the Inn.

But then again, I don't guess that the latter is an issue.  It's not like we can't retcon Davena's sexuality so that the encounter still happened.

Ahead of you there, Olan; according to the name generator you have, 'Aran' is a first part that is used in both male and female names. So the easist thing to do is switching the second part.

If I go by second parts I see the generator using, Aranwen seems to be the most visibly similar to Arancon.

A'ight.  Does anyone object to a retcon of "Arancon" to "Aranwen"?  I imagine this might have changed some interactions in the past a bit... but meh.  If it works for you folks, it works for me.

No objections, here...

...the only thing it will influnce where Ch'dau is concerned is in the way Aranwen is addressed... Khatun as opposed to Khan and such.

Yup.

I'm tempted to do a big SQL update to the back end, with a "find/replace" of "Aranwen" for "Aranwen", just for reading continuity.  Like, if we're gonne retcon, let's really retcon.

Of course, you do get the he/his in the old posts still, and you can't just brute force replace those... so it may not be worth the effort.

Not to mention you might clobber some poor Aranwen in another game on here, if there was one

I've seen SQL databases. I know how easily they're clobbered!

FWIW

Captain Backup just performed a find/replace on the word document and, to this point in the game, there are 289 instances of Aranwen. Only 15 instances of Khan (two of which appeared in the word backhanded and two more not relating to Aranwen, at all).

I  you, Captain Backup!

I can restrict the find/replace to the three game threads.  I still think I'll do the name, just not the pronouns or whatnot.

If a staff member ever gets crazy industrous, they could manually edit those.

I'm gonna say with three votes for (and only two other players), and in the interest of making the new player as comfortable as possible, we'll go with the retcon.  I can't imagine somebody just making this a deal breaker objection.
