"I will pay your fee, kind wizard, but please tell us what has delayed you?" I say. "Surely the weather does not stop one who can shield from the cold..."

“The cold might not stop someone who can shield the cold out. But warmth still feels good; especially a warm meal, and that can keep a man out of the storm. Am I right friend?”

“I st-tay because though heat may be of no issue, I would find the wind too hard for my frail body. T-the chance of mud slides, rock slides, and so forth is also n-not something I wish to encounter. I was holding out until t-today; but since you all might be so keen to be on your way, I could wait another day.

I take the stance that I had practiced with Ben and by myself. There is no way that I should let another attack in now.

I bring my longsword into reverse blade and keep my shield inbetween me and the wolf. Seeing how the wolf has been going for my legs, I bait it by intentionally leaving my leg out in front, well beyond the saftey of my shield. As it comes in to attack, I withdraw my leg back instanly, push the wolf's maw to the side with my shield and then use the momentum of this left turning motion to bring my reverse longsword down. As the attack is made, I get my footing ready to leap back a bit to give myself more room.

Now comes the time for a new form of baiting. Indeed, me and the wolf will now be reading each other, trying to fake each other out. only time will tell who can read who better... My hopes are that I will deal enough damage to the creature to make it turn heel and run. Most animals will not fight to the death; at least not for food.

The tides have turned, and what would have been an easy slaughter of the first wolf soon turned into a split up between our two factions. The horse is not one trained or bred for war, so it will be hard for me to handle it. I do the only thing that I can do: jump off and hope the landing is not so bad.

When I land, I struggle to stand up and get ready for the beast that was chasing after me; I reach for my sword, hoping to unsheath it in time to fight off the wolf.

Subject: The power of the mind

Seeing my companion and oldest friend get injured, I instantly think of what needs to be done. I recollect my thoughts on the power of the mind. "The greatest foe lies within" I recite to myself. To bring the mind under control is to have the advantage. So what happens when you conrol the minds of others?

Contemplating this, I focus my thoughts into a single form of energy. My vision is slightly hindered; this is the first time I have used such an intense mental power before. The viens in my eyes become visible, but instead of red they are a yellowish-white. And the burning... such intense pain for so simple a comand. If I hold onto it any longer I will surly cause damage to myself...

Getting into a defensive stance I point my fingers for reference and shoot the energy of the mental power at the wolf infront of us, targeting its very psyche!

After unleashing the power of my mind, I instantly go for the shield on my back and sling it on. The best offense is a good defence...

Topic: Champions versus Undead Contagion
Subject: The Journey Begins

Five figures of varying stature make their way to the old man who was raving about an undead menace. The first is a stout dwarf with a seemingly regal and noble aura about him. Though his trusted axe was with him, he had left his armor and other gear up in his room, for no adventuring was foreseen today with this mighty storm. He asked directly about the menace they would face: "What sort of dead be ye speaking of?"

But no sooner had he inquired of the exhausted man, when a Xeph: a psionicly inclined race, stepped up to aid the old traveler. He spoke with concepts that the dwarf would understand, “Don’t expect the man to speak sensibly without a drink and a warm meal, good dwarf".

This was true, for the man seemed to be in a bit of a rut. He was exhausted, both mentally and physically. He would soon enter shock no doubt, and with the rain the way it is hypothermia and pneumonia would soon follow. There was a good chance this poor old man would die unless he was taken care of.

The next to enter the party openly is a quick witted Halfling. A smug visage is about his face, and it is evident that at this point, more is going through his head instead of out his mouth. He offers his own services to the group.

With the party of three getting together, two more casually join the party. The first is a Dwarf, who aside from some gruff and sturdy bracers and a simple cloth tunic and rope belt; is essentially unarmed. No trade mark axe or hammer is about him, but any who look into his eyes can see years of experience and an uncanny insight are about him. Though he is without any steel or wooden weapons, it is evident he is more than capable of taking care of himself.

Finally, there is one who for the longest time is secluded in the depths of her own thoughts. Both human and elven blood run through her veins, and because of this; society has itself pushed her away. As she comes from her thoughts, and sees the group of males deciding what to do, she decides to join them. It would be expected that they would see her as an elf, for none belong to elven lineage. They would see her ears and decide right there what her heritage and proficiencies were: arrogant racist and only good with magic. Little did they know that they were going to get something a little different...

After the groups initial introductions, they have to make a decision: when will they leave? It is terribly cold out, and due to the regions geography, many dangers may be evaded if they wait until after the storm has passed. Furthermore, they may want to get more information out of this old man, and that would mean taking care of him until he was in a state that would allow him to explain more thoroughly what is happening and what lead up to the present state of Maplecrest.

However, it seemed that the situation is extremely dire in that town. And while they live and must deal with cold, sickness, fatigue, and hunger; the undead will not. If they delay, it might give their enemies more time to gather up and spread! It has been three days since the storm started, and it could go on for who knows how long!

A verdict must be reached, and action must be taken.

Subject: First posts

excellent first posts my party! lets keep this up!

Since this is your first time on a blog, and it is essentially my first campaign, we will have to figure somethings along the way. I am wanting a post every week or so. It should not take that long, but I am hoping that this will be enjoyable, not a chore xD.

So I will give a post, then I want your characters to respond to it. interation with each other is desired, so if one person makes a post, and then another wishes to interact with that persona, please do so. YEs, there will not be as much action in this campaign like we are used to when we were together, but that is sort of expected. Its about the role playing, action comes second.

Lady an dGentlmen; lend me your ears. I wish to tell you an impotant figure on the rules of rolling HP. Instead of rolling, take your max HP value for each hit die.

Faragon and Cyrus are the only to to have posted on this adventure, so before we continue, I would like some the others to make their posts.

jbfedaykin may take a while with his posts, as he does not have the books yet. I too might take some time, because my computer is dead again: the motherboard is (probably) fried. I do not have a back up at the moment, but in a few days time rivertothesea should be able to help me out with this... Bring me your eternal hard drive river2sea!

I would like it if you expanded a bit more on these first posts: these are the epic introductions to your amazing characters. Give me insight as to what they are thinking, feeling, and wanting. What has been done so far is not bad though... This is a request, not a demand. If you have no interest in stating more, then don't bother.

Anyways, if jbfedaykin does not get a post up in a bit, we might continue on without him until he gets his character together.

Subject: Champions versus Undead Contagion

Alright, so what type of characters / rules are there going to be in this campaign?

First things first: All those creatures that would normally be immune to critical strikes and shit (undead, constructs, etc.) Will now be resistant to them. What this means is that If you deal a critical hit (and you confirm it with a second roll) you will deal half of the alloted critical damage. So if you would normally deal 200% (x2) then you will do 150% (1.5) damage. Also; extra damage such as a rogues sneak attack will also be put under this rule. If you guys have not figured it out, there is probably going to be a lot of undead, so it would be unfair to have a rouge's benefit denied for a large portion of the game while essentially stacking the odds on the cleric.

XP will be rewarded loosely. I will give more to those who role play more. But I am thinking that 3-5 encounters should give the party a level up.

Character creation:
Make a level 5 character. Use any base class(es) that you can find in any of the official rules books. If you dont have any rule books, torrent them. There are some really nice 3.5 torrents out there to be found and used.

If you have not all ready known about this; I will make it clear now, we are playing D&D 3.5. Don't know/forget the rules? Torrent them. Starting gold will be 6000, and no more then 25% can be put into one single item.

Email me at [email protected], or post your character stats on the recruitment page or this page.

Thnx, and lets all have fun!!

The wind blows relentlessly outside the Lounging Turtle Inn. Delivering gales that can burst up to 110 km/hour. The cold rain chills flesh to the bone, and it feels like pins of needles are jabbing into the soft flesh, even if a cloak covers it. Lightning and Thunder light up the sky and make the very forest tremble, and along a mountainous highway, the isolated inn is full of passing travelers forced to stay indoors for fear of being blown away or sucumb to hypothermia.

It has been this way for some three days now. The patrons are enjoying the revenue that comes with travelers isolated by a storm and forced to pay for food and shelter; but at the same time, this storm threatens the very existence of that source of income. The fire wood is running low, and some of the patrons are starting to mumble that they will use the stools and chairs if it is needed.

Suddenly, the door bursts open as an old haggard man stumbles into the lobby. However, the majority of the people at the inn were more concerned about shutting the door then the condition of the gaunt figure. The billowing wind shatters mugs of ale as they plummet to the floor, and the fire threatens to go out. The door is shut after a lengthy struggle; and some turn to the man that had started the whole event.

Skinny and wrinkled in the face, the man's pale gray eyes speak volumes of his recent en devours. He is in shock, that can be confirmed even as he speaks; though it is more like crazy ramblings.

"The dead! The dead walk!" He starts. He looks for someone who will listen to him. This is where this man seems different from other senile delinquents; while most would simply continue to rant on, oblivious to whether or not people are listening; this one reads the reactions.

"I know it sounds crazy! But you must heed my warning! They will come from the valley if nothing is done!" He turns to the now silent lobby. "Heroes! The town of Maplecrest needs people seasoned in fighting to aid it! It is not lost yet! There are still some survivors! Barricaded in their homes! Who!? Who will save my family, my hometown!?"

Twilight
June 25
South of Gaellus, Corazon

I watch Owen's abducted cat as it catches a field mouse and consumes it. I have had some dinner already, so I do not feel the ping of hunger right now. But I wonder, will Owen's cat give him and me "presents"? Nothing like a dead mouse in the morning to get you up and going.

I turn to my sack, and look at the delve into the contents, pulling out my bedroll. I gather some grass and wood in the surrounding area, and prepare to light a safe fire (making sure that it is surrounded by rocks, area cleared, etc.). It will not hold out the entire night, but it may help us for a while.

I see no reason for us to hide our presence, but I do look to Owen to see if he has anything against this idea. If he agrees that one would be beneficial, I start it up. then I drift off to sleep, knowing that Owen has put up a spell to warn us of any impending danger.

Twilight
June 26
South of Gaellus, Corazon

I awaken the next morning with a bit of a stiff back. I do some stretching, and then start to do some exercises that Ben had taught me previously. As I do my swings, and work with my defensive stance, I think of something. A bit of a mischievous grin crosses my face :3. I creep up and swipe Ben's kite shield, and sling it around my left arm. I don on my leather armor, and with both equipped, I try the same defensive stance. Not bad. Not bad at all. I go for some shield bashes, and find that this technique is harder to accomplish. I do not have the arm strength or the training to proficiently do such a maneuver. I take instead to going back to that defensive position, and performing a few feints. This works far better.

After I finish the exercises and have worked up a sweat, I decide to eat some of my road provisions. I notice at this point Owen is studying his tome thoroughly, and his cat companion is consuming another mouse. I give Owen the shield.

"I think I will have to get myself a shield too now..." I state with the same grin I had when I got the idea of practicing with it :3.

After a quick breakfast, the two companions and familiar break camp and head to our destination. My anxiety is growing, as Jeremy's words of warning linger in the back of my mind.

I turn to Owen. “Did we make the right decision? Even though nothing has to happened to the escort, I feel that my duty has been fulfilled.” I listen to his reply, hoping that he feels like wise in this situation. Jeremy's own intentions were just as noble, and now that we are back at the city, his seem a lot more pressing in hindsight. “We need to get back to the group right away. I did give the mayor a plan, but that wont stop someone from doing something stupid.” I start searching the local area for an open stables house; we will need our own horses, they don't need to be the best, just fully rested and well fed. I will even put a payment that is worth more then the actual horses, and say that I will expect it back when I return with the creatures.

If I find a stables with the said requirements, I will purchase the horses and have them prepared for a journey to Surton. We need to get there ASAP.

Subject: judge not lest ye be judged

I have taken into account that the creature may desire humans now. Yet Jeremy has decided that I am unscrupulous in my plan. I do not blame him though... I do not want anyone to get hurt. Especially the children that we just met. But none the less, I do not want to go back on my word. This town can board up, use sheep as bait by injuring them and having them smell of blood, all sorts of precautions for the next two days.

We came on the decision of escorting the caravan to its destination. It was decided that WE would PROTECT them. Its not about pay, its not about the cargo, its about THEIR LIVES. Would Jeremy disregard their lives in order to save the larger group. He says (presumably more then he wrote) that even a single life would be woeful to have lost. well there is a better chance of the few drivers dying then a town full of folk that CAN work together if they so choose. We personally have experienced bandits not too long ago. What would have happened to Lady Emeritta had we not been along? I will not have that happen to this group as well.

I WILL be going on the cart. If Jeremy and two others (Damn it, even if the entire party decides to stay) I will go. I am now resolute in my stance.

"I too am protecting life Jeremy. I am just protecting that which has come to have been expected of me. But if you believe that you must stay here and keep post, then you should do it." What I do not say to him, however, is that I hope that he does. We have power, and to confide it to one body may not be the best idea. I just hope I am not the only one going with the cart...

Topic: The Day They Woke Up on the Wrong Side of Reality
Subject: Passion versus Empathy

After hearing some of the tales before hand, and seeing the events that have unfolded now, I too am worried. A Deamon Dog? The only two creatures that fit that description would either be the Hell Hound or the Winter Wolf... both have amazing supernatural powers, both were cunning in comparison to your average, both were very dangerous.
What got me stumped was that in any event, they were canines... pack animals. Yet we have only heard about (and at night, only heard ourselves) one animal.

If it were a winter wolf, it would surely have a pack of its own; they could easily find a pack and rid the alpha male of his place. Furthermore, though there are mountains in the surrounding area, they seem a bit too distant to be in the hunting territory of a wolf pack. This leads me to deduce that that the creature must be a Hell Hound... if it is indeed a powerful entity of any kind.

In either case, I turn to the mayor. "How long has this 'Deamon Dog' been around for?"
"And how many others beside this hunter have died from it or have mysteriously vanished?" (presuming none)(used in rhetoric to point flaws of agitating the beast)
"Then I suggest this: give a curfew, and do nothing for the time being. It is apparent this creature has no interest in us yet. It may have gained a taste for human flesh now that it has killed one, so i suggest that people travel in groups, and perhaps even congregate under one roof. When we get back from our escort, we will aid you."

I turn to head to the cart. I have made my decision. But then something strike me...
"And for the love of the gods, be sure to show the children that corpse! I heard some of them plotting to fight that monster. Sheltering them from the truth of death will only lead them to it! Be clear on the consequences of looking for this canine."

I then sit on the cart, hoping the other will follow suit. If it seems that I am going alone, I will discuss with the cart riders what they think... for I do not wish to separate from my friends again... I don't want to be alone in this world again. But at the same time, I believe that the towns folk are not in impending doom at the moment. So long as they appease the wolf-hound with the sheep that it desires, they will be safe. They have each other. If this transport gets attacked, they will be slaughtered, and it was assumed that they would be protected. (If needed, I would tell this standpoint to the rest of the party orally).

Subject: The noble guard is emerging...

Accompanying, guarding, protecting, guiding. Actions speak louder then words, and if one such as myself is continually speaking of having a noble inate nature, imagine how hard pressed I might feel to take up the sword and shield to bear the fruits of my nature.
Something inside me realizes what I am embarking on. Not as a whole with the others, for this journey is of the mind and soul, and far less that of the bodily domain. I am becoming that which I have always longed to be: a knight in shining armor.
I stand up with a new spring and zest in my step as I accept the document from Master Sakamoto. A smile spreads across my face for what I am getting out of this task.
"Thank you master Sakamoto, we will gladly aid this employer of yours." I look to my companions, making sure that there is no objections to this announcement. we had established that we needed money, and for a simple trip, we will get just that. There may be dangers ahead of us, but surely nothing more dangerous than facing the undead with few being prepared for combat. All of us had gone out to get supplies. I am sure we a more then ready to deal with whatever hardships the country side can give us.
And besides... we have each other. The five (or six) of us can do things together that others might find impossible to do.
Being lead by the small child, I give her a smile. Though I do not plan to have children myself, I have no passion of hatred against them. In fact, I have a soft spot in my heart for such treasures. I hope that she accepts the smile and gives one in turn. However, I do not expect this, for Asian culture tends to prohibit eye contact between people of different statures.

"Is everything all right?" I ask master Sakamoto. I am genuinely concerned, for religion is one of those things that affect me as such: often a sign of strife. Of course I do not wish to tell this to anyone verbally, but if religion is ever brought up in a conversation, I am usually very open on my feelings of the subject.
In any case, I am some-what curious of what the two had to say. Again, I do not wish to bring this up with my employer. If he wished for us to know what was happening, he would tell us, other wise, I should believe it to be personnel affairs and leave it alone.
If and when the food is laid out, I also request for chop-sticks like Galen-san. First off, it allows for good relations by following host customs, but it is also most-likely practical for the food stuffs that we are about to consume (Asian food that is).

I am in awe at how well we are being treated. How is it that this man is willing to give us so much, when we are common men who simply showed up at his front gate like beggars, seeking employment. Either he is truly virtuous, or this is sugar to attract some bees, Perhaps he wasn't us to do something... bad? He is making a good first impression... but these type of actions have always unsettled me since I was a young boy. People who treat me well (especially strangers) have always lead me to ask the question (if not aloud, in my head) “What do you want?”. Further more, he is rich, and the rich do not get the way they are by being kind... for the most part.

But I shake these ideas out of my head. I am not going to say it, so confirmation will never happen. Hope that he is a better man then most. After all, Lady Emerita was willing to help us, even sleep in the same company as us, and she had no obligations to. Expect the worst, hope for the best. That is the clause that my life has revolved around for many years.

“Master Sakamoto, I give you my humble thanks for holding this wonderful dinner on such sort notice. You have accepted uninvited strangers into your wonderful home.” I start out. “You seem to be a man of great generosity, and will gladly accept any assignment that you have to offer. But sadly, I must also inform you that Me and my accomplice over here” as I bring attention too Ben, “will be leaving in about a week. We have an employer who has a job for us. So if you could, do you have anything that would be extremely temporary and short? I simply do not want to go back on my word to these people, and I so I cannot dedicate too much time to your cause. However, if you are willing, I will gladly undertake more tasks at a later date when I return.”

I enjoy my bath with the others, taking to the public facility over a private one. Nothing I have never seen before, so who cares? The murky water soaks my skin, and I lay waste to the dirt and sweat that has accumulated over the last few days in my pores. By the end of the event, I am refreshed and satisfied, a pleasant smile is on my face. Since I do not have a comb myself, I simply use my fingers to help undo some of the knots. My facial hair may be a bit long at this point, and as I feel the scruffy beard, up, I decide that it will not do if I am accompanying nobility, and decide that before I set forth with the Lady, and Aeth, I will be once again clean shaven.

When we get to the tailor, I set out to find myself an entire new set of clothing. I throw away my running shoes, which were cheap anyways, for a set of short black leather boots which were both hard soled and water proof, excellent for traveling in.

My shirt and leggings are made of black linen. And the belt that I find is of black leather with a polished iron buckle, which makes it look similar to polished silver. I find some supple leather gloves on a rack, ranging from tan to white to black... I of course go to the black ones. Finally, in the back are the coats and cloaks. At first I am inclined to purchase a cloak, as the style has fascinated me for a long time. But as I am browsing through the articles of outer wear, my eyes widen. In one of the the darkest corners of the shop, I find a black leather trench coat hung up neatly. I ask the tailor about this coat, and she states that it was a fashion flop. No one seemed interested in the design. Sighing, she mumbles to herself that she should really get rid of it. I nearly slam her with my coins as I shove them into her face. I offer her a gold piece for the thing. Seeing that I am so interested in it, she tries to haggle with me a bit by increasing the price. By the end of it, we come to a peculiar cost value of 1 Gold noble, 2 silver nobles and 5 copper. As she takes my measurements, and is about to finalize the purchase. I state that I want all my clothing trimmed with purple. Raising an eye brow at me, a questionable expression is on placed on her face. I tell her its my favorite color, and I do not want to be running around in dead black clothing. She waves her hand and states that it will cost another couple of silver and some time, all of which I agree to. I am to come back that night before she closes to pick up my items.

At Ye Olde Weapon Smithy, I picked myself up a longsword. It was in good condition, though very simple in design. I measured it for its balance, and found it to be perfect. Grabbing a whetstone, I made my purchase and was done with that.

At the armorer, I found myself various kinds of leather armor. I asked the keeper if he had anything in black. He pointed to a currais in the back, and I gave a smirk.
“What are the chances of you getting some purple on this?” Another raised eyebrow, followed by the same verbal response. I agreed with a smile and waited for my friends to finish their rounds, though I was intrigued by the owner's daughter. She was a bit young for my taste (being about twenty), but she was pretty. She help her father out at the counter and with inventory, she even made a sale with Ben. I made sure not to stare at her, and when we all left I made sure to give her a warm wave good-bye.

At the general store, while everyone was buying a backpack, I just went out and got myself a black sack with a pull up string. I threw in a few other things and was done before you knew it.

I grabbed my items later on that day as the sun was setting, making sure to drag my friends along as escorts. And after getting my clothes, armor, and a wink from the armorer girl, we head back to the Cat's Cradle Inn to enjoy ourselves and our first night in civilization.

Remaining Gold: 27 gold, 6 copper

While eating the filling food at the Cats Cradle Inn, it catches my ear that Aeth and Lady Emerita will want two out of the six of us to act as guards on the way back. After swallowing the mouth full of food which I was presently chewing on, i decided to speak up. This, was however, after Ben had announced his own interest in guarding the two.

I look to Lady Emerita, the wonderful young lady who had essentially saved our lives, and respected us to the point of treating us as equals. She was most certainly a person to admire and look up to. If I could guard her well being, I would consider it a privilege. I would say that she is one of the few that has gained my respect, and she has done it within such a short time period.

"Lady Emerita." I whisper to the young lady as the other continue to consume their food and make casual conversation. "I wish to... well, redeem myself from my past performance. I believe that I have gotten better in combat and believe that I can now be considered qualified for the purposed escort mission Aeth has mentioned. I am begging you to allow me to join your party." I then await her answer. upon which I thank her and continue to finish my meal while making other plans for the next few days.

I think about this new city, and how different civilization might be from our own. I am a bit hesitant at first, for I do not really know where everything is, nor what dangers urban life might hold. Will I find myself in an alley way with cut throats, or perhaps break some unknown rule and have trouble with the guards? A whole bunch of problems could occur. I decide to initiate a proposal to my comrades.

"Gentlemen, we should do as Gamet said. We should all head down to the bath house and then to the tailor. Once we have accomplished these objectives, we should go shopping for supplies, but go in groups. I would suggest that we go in the following:

Galen and Ben
Ian and Owen
Jeremy and Raymond

This way, we have a sort of combat balance, in case the worst should arise. Alternatively, we could shop by our interests:

Ben, Ian, Raymond
Galen, Jeremy, Owen

This way we could get our materials more efficiently (presumably) and still be in rather safe groups. I suppose we could all go as one, but that would be rather inefficient, and we would cover less ground.

looked at skills again. shouldn't my use psionic device be +4, not +2? Synergy + ability mod.

also, update the equipment. I have done most of it on the post of To the Shoppe, but it will be easier to refer to on Q&A.

Subject: Aeth's Offer

I would be wanting to go off as a guard. I Think I have the most credibility (so to say), as I have actually talked with Lady Emerita and come to like her character. I would also be interested in learning more about the Gemini twins from her as well, since she seems to put it in a more neutral and understanding tone as opposed to obnoxious-zeal like or arrogant opposition. My training will also aid me in this respect, as I do have martial proficiency. Further more, they do not know that I am a "Caster", so they should have very little to have against me.
Note, this could also aid me in my growth on the path I would like to take, that is, become a guardian and humble servant of goodly people.
If anyone opposes these ideas, speak up, or forever hold your peace!
