Subject: whatever we do, let us do it quikly

"I have no problems with giving them th same oppertunity as the other rogues we took into the fort. Might be a bit unlikely that they will be won over without trading blades though: most of the rogues we have met only understand power of force. But whatever we be doin' lets do it fast before any o' em notice us."

So just as a reminder on what all is done with the return to Oleg's:
-2 or 3 hexes of exploration (depending on route)
-Svetlana's Ring (Side quest)
-Kobolds in the hills (side quest)

pretty good for an outting, plus the whole 2 dungeon completion!

I suggest we make our way abck to Oleg's but explore a couple forest hexes along the way. I am kinda hoping we run into the boar Tuskgutter along the way.

Hearing the offer for the shelter, Frodrick shook his head.
"Nay there Sootscale. We be needin to get outta' here and be on our way. We be scoutin' the area and mapping it out and we got a lot of work ahead of us."

(Upon hearing that Poro can help in the current hex)

"I suppose we could stay then and recover our wounds a bit before setting out."

(Later that night, after being asked why the party is here doing stuff with weapons about them)

"Well, honestly, I be here to die a warrior's death. But just so happens that I can do some good while I am at that - the Swordlords up north want to try settling this land and bringing a bit o' law to the region. So we be startin' the fledgling barony after ridding these lands of some of the greater dangers - mainly that Stag Lord and his band of thieves."

Subject: The blade of the sickle

Taking the small weapon in his hand, Frodrick examined the blade for a moment. The metal was a dark grey, the a dull surface. Along with the slight marble pattern that it made within itself - it was without a doubt a very particular and rare metal.

"This here be a cold iron sickle. Not good for trading or makin' into jewelry, but makes can be used in lieu of iron for weapons and armour - though it is harder to smith so unless you got lots of the ore and not a whole lot of iron to work with would see no reason why you would want to work with it."

Frodrick pursed his mouth into a pout to the one side of his corner of his face. "Though... the ore has a notable efficiency for killin' faries and their kind: Clan Redbrew had a huge problem in the second cycle of King Grenin Redbrew with a bunch o' gremlins. We had to flush em out and cold iron was standard issue for that hunt. Don't know how well any of us can use this here weapon due to it being designed for a hand the size o' a kobold, but we could very well run into some fey in the woods round here and this metal might work for some arrows or sumthin."

Frodrick walked before the cheiftain, and gestured to Kyrie as Sootscale asked about the statue. He was hoping she would catch his drift and procure the said item from her pack. He then turned to Sootscale to talk.

"We be here not to give nothin just so ya know there Sootscale. We be here to trade. We found in the mite den that you have a ring that the mites had taken from some humans - we want to trade the statue for that ring. If my hunch is right, it belonged to an aquaintance of ours and it was stolen by human bandits."

(Pressuming he agrees with the trade.)
Frodrick nodded. "It is good to see some folks are willing to be civilized in these here wild parts. Now onto other business. We heard that there is a certain individual who has seemingly usurped your role. Also heard he is threatening all 'o you with some death curse if you dont serve a deity. We be willing to help you with this case, but again: we ain't in a giving mood - we will expect some compenation."

"If we take on this task, we want all you scaley folk to stop cause trouble for the humans that wander 'round here. A posting has been put out to stop your trouble one way or another. Since you lot seem like you have no problems trading I would preffer to go the more diplomatic route than the other. We do something for you, you do somehting for us. We agreed?"

Frodrick was content with a fair trade from the kobold for the ugly statue. but first they needed to make sure this tree was rid of the blue infestation.

"Sounds fine to me Mikmek, but first we need to make sure the rest of them mite be dead. Lets head up this way and see where it leads us."

Frodrick raised an eyebrow. This kobold had taken crude torture and watched his companions die, yet he still wanted to continue with his mission. There was honor in all places, and Frodrick was bolstered by this kobold's words.

"What be this mission your on there? Since we are butchering mites down here, there would be no issue with knowing what you need too."

Looking to the kobold dangling from its restraints, Frodrick decided it would need his help getting to the surface. The battle was over, and so grabbing the bottle in his belt pouch, he placed it on the ground.

"This is the last o' the healing potions. Decide who amoungt you needs it. I'm getting the prisoner o' war outta here."

With his trusty axe in hand, Frodrick planned to destroy that which held the kobold to the wall. It was his plan to use his dwarven stoutness to move the creature with no hinderance to his speed.

Now that he was on the ground, Frodrick took the time to draw his axe and shield. He would then wait to see if any of the mites from the other room decided to attack.

Seeing Kyrie almost plummet into the chasm made the dwarf's heart skip a beat. How had he not noticed the feaux roots before? Cursing himself under his breath for not being more observant, he called out to Kyrie to reassure her. "Take your time lass! We don't need a farm girl falling into the chasm and breaking a leg!"

Turning again to the entrance where the mites were heard with the whispering and cry, Frodrick decided he would take a look - see what was what while the others made there way over.

Bringing up his shield to and lowering his body to be more stable, Frodrick took up a stance that demonstrated that he was not going anywhere.

He then glared at the ferocious vermin that had shown its ugly head from the darkness and muck. He did not like the looks of it. Almost all insects had some type of venom or acid about them, and this one was sure to do something along those lines if it got a good chomp on one of them. It needed to come down first.

Almost like a second form of sight, Frodrick started to see how it moved: its weaknessess and openings that came with it. He knew that he would be able to direct his comrades to better take it down.

"Never mind the wee ones! focus on that there bug! Mind the legs and mouth and go for the underbelly if ya can: it is less armored and easier to get at the thing's guts!"

Looking to Krii, Frodrick whispered "Keep close to me and follow my lead - they might decide casters be worse than boom sticks or shovels. I will make sure they dont get to ya and if they do they will have a tough time stoppin yer jibber-jabber."

The dwark then held his position, waiting to see if any dared to come at his ward.

Frodrick grimaced as he saw the wisp come into view. He felt offended by its words - as if it was showing off its vocabulary and acting superior in its intelligence.

It had wanted them all to kill each other before for its own satisfaction. Perhaps death was what it fed upon or took delight in. As it was, Frodrick and company could not take it on - but perhaps it would leave them alone if something else died.

It was a convenience that there were a few ugly pigmies near by that could be the sacrificial lambs.

Crawling forward again, Frodrick wanted to see if their heads were as soft as they seemed. Hopefully their brains wouldn't get blown into his eyes by this confounded wind.

Subject: There be Gremilns afoot

Frodrick knew nothing of these creatures aside from the fact that they were categorized as gremlins. And gremlins had a tendency in his people's lore to destroy and sabotage equipment. In the dwarven mines it could be a support beam. in the forging halls it could be a critical cable that held a cauldron of molten iron. In the hills, it could be a lifeline rope that stood between a man and his plummet into the sky.

It was at least partly evident that they had no idea that Frodrick and the others were here, but that could change. It would be a slow and tedious task, but Frodrick would have to make his way to them. If all went well, he would be able to throw them just enough off their anchored grass that they would be swept up in the winds and carried to their (hopeful) demise.

Inch by inch Frodrick made his way towards the potential and presently unaware threat.

The sight was horrifying, and Frodrick wished that he was in that tree hole at this point - or some other subterranean shelter. Never had he seen such a thing, and it was enough to make his once proud and stubborn knees buckle. Add to it the deafening wind and dagger-like rain and Frodrick felt like he was in the maelstrom of chaos itself with all the sensations and instincts hitting him.

Looking around, Frodrick saw that Zeran was throwing his arms up and screaming something, though it was hard to tell what exactly it was with the gusts rushing his words in another direction and the rain blasting Frodrick's helm. But it became evident what the boy was planning when he started ushering with his arms to start moving.

Rushing forward with his dwarven bulk, Frodrick threw his full body onto the boy, though his knees ached at exerting such force. As Frodrick pinned Zeran down he yelled into his ear as he contended over the wind. "We cant move boy! I ain't experienced such a thing as this here tunnel of wind, but I have heard o' em! We need to stay put or we get swept by the wind to our deaths!"

As another violent gale blasted through their natural shelter of the naturally formed trough, Frodrick pressed his weight down on Zeran. When it passed, the old dwarf rolled over, thinking the boy would not like a fat old stinky dwarf on him all night. With motions to show as such, he tried to scream out for everyone to fall down and group up.

"I won't speak for everyone, but how about instead of going back with something temporary, would you accept if I went with you? Having more allies would probably lead to a more likely turnaround than a drink."

The Dwarf shook his head. "We cant be helpin' every creature that pops its head outta the ground with a problem. Next thing you know: we will be needin' to help trolls and dragons. I say we let the thing go and go our own way. No sense in going to a kobold kingdom: they would just as easily use us for food or slaves if they had the oppertunity to do so."

"Now perhaps we could get some information from her and finish off them mites. 'The enemy o' my enemy' and all that. We finish off a pestalence that is already weak from fighting kobolds, and the kobolds settle down some. But to go to the Kobolds with aid seems to make no sense to me. We be in the greenbelt wilderness, and each has to take care of his own. Maybe once we get a foothold in the area we can be more neighborly, but as is my council is stay away from the lil' scallywags."

Frodrick stroked his beared as the kobold spoke. He had not met many in his life, but he did know of their race. They were by no means a paragon race in regards to scruples and or surface-dweller codes, they were hard working and usually kept their promises when they gave their word.

What also piqued Frodrick's interest was the mention of using the potion in battle. If their was one thing kobolds were renowned for it was cowardice - they were a weaker race that had managed to survive by quick reproduction cycles and laying traps as opposed to assaults.

"Ye say ye be needing that there potion fer fightin'. What de ye mean by that? I know enough 'bout kobolds to think that rather odd. Might it have to do with o' mites that are with yer own carcasses? The big blue heads?"

It seemed that fate had a cruel sense of humor. Here Frodrick had hoped to catch the bandits off guard - but here the exact opposite had happened. The old dwarf knew what to do instinctually as his companion made his ruckus in the night. Instantly his arms were grabbing his axe and his shield. He would have to get up and size up the situation, but he could already tell that the gunman was wounded.

"Jargon, defend!" Frodrick commanded as he pointed to Zeran. He only hoped she could see in the poor lighting of the night and the fire.

Frodrick nodded at Zeran’s statements. It seemed that time had taught the dwarf the lessons of patience and seeing through another’s eyes – what would have once kindled his anger was now taken in stride.
“I see yer point, and I didn’t mean we just charge on in like we ain’t got nothin’ to lose. I am just sayin’ we should bring the fight to them before they bring it to us: they know where we are housed and we know nothing about them. If we find a few bandits by themselves we might be able to learn more about where they are located.”

“Unless something big happens in the near future like our singer here learns to bring the stars down on our enemies, there ain’t a whole lot that we can hope for to change our lot for the better against that there Stag Lord. We be five beings against an army of bandits in turf they are a bit more familiar with: the odds are stacked against us unless the Sword Lords decide to send us an army of our own. By lookin’ at the farmers and trappers of this area, I ain’t seen no one that I could trust my back to in a real fight, so conscription by any means also is right out.”

“But I will admit: getting some of the other jobs posted might be a good thing for us. If anything else we can get some better quality weapons – and having our own general territory secured could be a bonus if it ever came to a fight in ‘our own lands’. Plus getting more familiar with the layout and its dangers of this area would not be a bad thing for us.”

“So the short end o’ it is that I can do without badgering the bandits for now, but I be getting a wee bit blustery at the mention of them getting more active!”

Subject: My Thoughts...

On Post a post at the post you newb rubes! is that Frodrick really is a bad ass. Old man-dwarf calls out a farmer for offending him, gives a second chance, and is still playing to the code of "Order of the Dragon".

I also like how I seem to have naturally aligned Frodrick with Lawful Nuetral in regards to killing. This is not to say that I had to write Frodrick into a specific alignment, but rather that a specific alignment perfectly reflected Frodrick's ideals and personality. It was very satisfying looking at this post after putting it up and noticing how Frodrick has an organic feel to him: he is not forced to into any particular role or alignment. This is not always the case with me.

Butterflies in my tummy from excitement. I want to post more about more stuff with Frodrick. I might just start writing a lame novella about him in this campaign for de lolz.

“We could have rid ourselves of the menace if you’d done aught but sit on your asses!”

Frodrick was rather surprised by the outburst of the farmers. True they had just given chase to what would be considered a cat-dog, and so might have been caught up in the thrill of the hunt, but to show such disrespect to strangers was beyond the dwarf’s comprehension. This place was full of bandits, thieves, and cut-throats; and for these folk to NOT presume that a group of well-armed folk could be among that type was a very dangerous assumption.

The dwarven knight decided a response was nessecary. “Ye ain’t seen a dwarf I presume, and if ye had, I be guessing ye ain’t spoke to one before. Callin’ or insinuatin’ that he be lazy or useless is like spitting in his face. I’ll let it slide this once, but place me or my fightin’ companions’ honor into question again and I might have to challenge you to a dual of fisticuffs.”

“Now as fer not taking the axe to a wounded beast: we have encountered beasties in this here Greenbelt, but in all cases the creatures started a fight with us. We ain’t the ones to just go about killing every critter that creeps into our line o’ sight. Either it’s gotta start a fight with us, or a reward has to be posted. In this case, neither had been brought to our attention.”

“So if ye be needin a hunt, bring it to Oleg’s attention. We might be able to get around to it, or perhaps one of the hunters/trappers could get this creature for you. But as it is, be of with ye!”
