a little cut & paste

EDIT: this post was originally a rant that didn't actually answer your question about how to make stuff with that shiny lab you're setting up. So without further ado...

the crunchy side of alchemy; a walkthrough.

say you want a flask of alchemist's fire. its listed price is 20gp, and its craft DC is 20.

so... you'd spend 6.67gp (1/3 of 20) on raw materials before making your first craft(alchemy) check.

Hopefully you got a 16 or better, or your chance at making a profit selling this thing just went down the drain, or evaporated, or whatever. In any case, a 15 or worse means half of your raw materials are ruined and now you have to spend 3.33gp to make up for that bad batch.

Say you got a result of 20 on that first roll. Woot. Take your result and multiply it with the craft DC... 400. Compare that with the price of the item in silver pieces (200, btw) to see how much progress you made this week.

Since 400>200, you're finished. In fact, you finished in half the time because of how much you exceeded your target number. If you had been trying to make an item whose price in sp had been 2000, you'd still have three more weeks of work at that rate of progress.

Ok, congrats on completing your first flask of alchemist's fire. Now off to market. It's price is 20g, so it'll sell for 10. You paid 6g 67s for it, so you'll net a profit of 3g 33s.

That number is familiar, isn't it? It's what you'd pay if you fail the craft check by 5 or more. So fail once and you break even, fail more than once and you're in the red for that item.

Of course this is all assuming strict adherence to the rules as written. It's always possible that Kaelyn could work out some special case something or other with you.

...

I'm not sure what's going on really. I'm still around (if a little busy).

I am alive

Hail and well met strangers, for surely I have been gone far too long.

Yes as Deucalion put it "Life" happened again. Ailing family, missing Family, frequent trips, Near death experiences and general "Ruh-Roh Shaggy's" all around have kept me from my beloved home away from home. That should all be sorting itself out now.

I however do know that I disappeared without warning and apologize, and understand if interest has wavered or been lost.

So, on that note, I'm making a roll Call, to see if I should continue this.

please let me know if you're still around or interested. I know I am, and have had ample time to work up many more plot twists and character opportunities and tailored storylines, but I need the players to implement them!

Bronwyn

Here! Here! Here! I am so glad your back.. There is so much Bronwyn has wanted to be doing in the way of making potions and scrolls. and whatever else she can make. Perhaps even having a few accidents that stink up the place.

Reporting for Duty

I'm looking forward to the hijinks we will undoubtedly land ourselves in.

Still here

Life has been very busy for me too of late, but I'm still here. It's been a great game so far, and I don't want it to flicker out and die if I can help it.

interest

So mayhaps no sibby or jozan.

If they don't show back up, I'm thinking maybe the trip out to the kobolds should be put on hold. Replacing it with bronwyn and talus either doing some scouting of the mine, or joining the caravan escort out west, depending on what you all think.

Sib-kun

Just hasn't been online lately; I'm fairly certain he still holds interest in his character. It's just because he thought he had nothing else to contribute that he hasn't posted in the game thread.

Don't worry

The bard is still here, and still somehow surviving.

I've just been entangled by essay-writing again. They seem to get kicks out of testing how many simultaneous assignments can be due at once before a student's spirit is broken. Nevertheless, I am here, having waded most of the way through this crunch.
