Subject: Ixion - Sodgrove: Near the Kobold? Skirmish - EDIT

((take my description from the Q&A and add water. Stir. Wait five minutes. Serves 3-5

Ixion does have a number of daggers on his person, but they are all concealed unless someone wants to make a search check (frisk him). Only two weapons are visible before making such a check: the rapier belted to his hip and a dagger sheathed on the inside of his right boot. EDIT: for further clarification, the dagger is on his right boot's medial side))

Ixion nears the battle and sees what appear to be some kind of dragonkin... and they are being routed. Not wanting to miss out on any potential fun, he draws his rapier and charges the nearest one, hoping to score a few hits before the villagers finish them off.

"Sorry old man, mayhap you can tell your stories later..." Ixion leaves the burning building and runs in the direction of battle, hoping that he'll finally be able to do something. Finally! Except for the clash with the dwarf, this trip was about to become a waste of time.

Seeing no one fleeing the scene, Ixion sheathes his rapier and enjoys the spectacle of dancing flames and curious onlookers.
Amazing how everyone wants to see whats happening but no one wants to help extinguish the flames.

The thin man takes note of one in the crowd with more interest in the blaze than most. He had run from the Tankard and started asking if anyone had see anything or knew about what was inside the barn.

Ixion makes his way through the gathering crowd to the inquisitive man. "We didn't see anyone running away with a lit torch and jug of oil, if that's what you mean. Actually, we didn't see anything at all. Everyone was inside when the scream was heard; it's just an assumption that it came from inside there and is related to the fire at all."

After explaining the situation, Ixion turns back to face the fire and watch it destructive beauty.

...would you like to keep track of the sleight of hand results for all of Ixion's hidden weapons? I rolled them all at character creation, but he's already pulling them out and replacing them... and replacing the old rolls with new ones.

Ixion's shoulders sink slightly when discovers the source and probable reason fo the screaming. He casually makes his way over to the burning builing replacing the dagger somewhere up his sleeve and watching the rooftops and alleyways more than the conflagration at the center of most everyone else's attention.
((Sleight of Hand to hide the weapon))

Hopefully, this arsonist is stupid enough to stay and watch his work.
((Spot or search checks on possible hiding places that would also be good vantage points for viewing the blaze))

Ixion slowly stood up and picked up his pack, slinging it over his shoulder as he finished off the apple he'd been nibbling at for the last half hour.

A thud to his left grabbed his attention and he nearly loosed his dagger, recognizing Torigad just in time to stop the reflexive throw. "Stupid dwarf, you don't go making..." Ixion mumbled under his breath as he turned back to the door, but then his brain processed the new look Torigad had given his facial hair.
He did a double take so profound that he simply forgot there was one last table still between him and the door. Watching the dwarf charge out of the tavern, unable to take his eyes off the partially shaved dwarf out of pure disbelief, Ixion stepped into the table. He barely bruised his right thigh, but the impact threw his balance off horribly. He spun to the left and shifted his weight off the impeded leg, planning to simply tumble around the obstacle and be on his way. Everything would have gone smoothly had there not also been a chair...

Ixion emerges from the Broken Tankard a few seconds behind Torigad, dagger in one hand, rapier in the other, and a fresh bruise on his face.

The thin man returns Snowlilly's grin, "True, but last night neither of us were trying to bury a knife in the other. If our teaming up leads to blows, as journeying through the Stillness often does, I want to know that those I'm with aren't going to always overlook a stealthy approach."

Ixion's turns to the dwarf, "Not that battle cries and a reckless charge are similarly out of the question... sometimes that's what's called for. However, I like to plan and that kind of move throws strategy into the wind, don't you agree Master Dwarf?" As he finishes the question he flicks a dagger out of nowhere and uses it to skewer an apple off of the barmaids tray.

((Sleight of Hand keep observers from noticing where exactly the dagger came from. SoH again to place a copper piece on the maid's tray))

Ixion leans back in his chair and takes a bite out of the apple, still impaled on his knife.

After taking a leisurely bath, Ixion dresses and straps on his rapier. He slings his pack over one shoulder and heads downstairs, entering the main hall just in time to catch the last part of the Dwarf's suggestion.

"Oh, but where is the fun in that?" Ixion walks up to the table and slides into a chair, leaning his pack agaist one of the table's legs. "Hey, Barkeep, I'd like some breakfast here," he calls back over his shoulder before addressing the group, "You say you want to foray out into the wilds, during the Stillness no less. I'd prefer to find out what kind of people I'm signing up with before joining my survival with your skill... especially since I don't know anything about what you can or cannot do. I haven't even caught your name matter.

"Myself, I can hold my own in a fight. But I much prefer to study my opponent and exploit circumstances as they arise instead of just charging in with axe waving. What is your philosophy on tactics, dwarf?" He motions to the dwarf's large battle axe. "With weapons like that I assume you do not favor subtlety."

SODGROVE

Ixion's eyes snap open. Awake Surveilling the room, he quickly realizes he slept clear through to morning and a brief look of disappointment crosses his face.

Didn't really expect it to work anyway. She's probably been dealing with those same ploys for twice as long as I've been using them. Ixion, you're outmatched.

Standing up he stretches and pops his neck, trying to dislodge the last bit of sleep's haze from his mind. "Oh I need to wash up" he mumbles to himself as he heads for the door. He strolls downstairs and, after poking his head into the main hall to see if either the surly dwarf or the enchanting elf were awake, looks around for either of the two young boys or the Housekeeper to draw up a bath for him.

This is my first play-by-post game and I'm still not used to having to wait for the other characters to react to stuff i've done / am doing. Plus the text format has the added difficulty of not conveying body language and tone of voice very well and I'm afraid I'm going to cross a line with this guy and not know it until a day and a half later.

...I've created a monster. If Ixion is too abrasive for anyone, please tell me now before I post too many times with this guy. I've still got some room to tweak his personality, but another week or so and we'll all be stuck with this... uh, "arrogant (CENSORED)" as my fiancé put it.

I'm having fun playing someone so very much unlike myself, but I don't want to ruin the experience for anyone/everyone else just so I can play "I wonder what this'll be like."

SODGROVE

The thin man watched, a slightly puzzled look on his face, as the dwarf huffed off. Even for a dwarf that one's too easily riled.

"Don't mind that one. He didn't get his beauty sleep." Ixion downed the last of his wine before continuing. "Snowlilly. I'm Ixion, Ixion Po. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. My apologies for leaving you with the night so young, but I'm afraid this wine has gone to my head..." He paused momentarily, as if remembering something from long ago, and chuckled quietly as he finished, adopting a sing-song rhythm, "...now nothing to be done but off to bed."

Tossing a few coins onto the table, Ixion stood from his chair, and bowed to the elf maiden. "I take my leave of you, for now. However, if you'd prefer the evening not end so soon..." Grinning, he looked up at her from mid bow and right into her eyes, "I'm in room 3."

Ixion turned as soon as he finished the sentence and purposefully made his way straight to the stairs. That'd work on the barmaid... I wonder if it will in any way entice an elf?
Curiosity got the better of him as he rounded the corner in the stairs' landing. Had he not been walking so briskly he would have broken what was usually one of the easiest rules to follow: Never Look Back. The narrow stairwell saved him; he was already passed the corner when his will broke and all he got was a close inspection of the wall.

Ixion returned to his room, berating himself. You must exercise more control than this. Pretty girl and you fall to pieces... stupid man. If she does come up all you will do is talk. You can make no advances. That is your punishment for breaking.
He began to plan how he would explain away the obvious connotations of his last comment to Snowlilly. Just as the beginning of the conversation was taking form in his mind Ixion made the mistake of sitting on the bed. Exhaustion overtakes him and he's asleep before his head hits the mattress.

"Oh, of course, m'lady." Ixion's expression changed quickly in the second it took him to turn to the elven woman, his self-assured, almost cocky smile, replacing the sour look he'd given the dwarf. Nudging out the seat closest to his own, he continued, "This, ah, unsavory fellow... was just suggesting that we take to the wilds and, what was it? Reclaim the land from the evil that has overtaken it, or something like that.

"I don't know if you go in for that sort of thing, but it just occurred to me that having one of your beauty along to offset the dwarf and his 'evil-tainted lands' might make the whole thing worthwhile."

Did I read that properly? Torigad is extremely disheveled when Ixion first meets him?

I went back through and read the posts again and if I made Torigad more of a mess than you intended, Ixion's reaction was way too harsh.

SODROVE

Ixion dropped his gaze from Torigad to the dwarf's hand and shifted in his seat to put a little more space between himself and the filthy creature.

"Perhaps you should take advantage of this establishments amenities. They can bring a bath up to your room." Ixion suggested, bringing his gaze back to the stout one's eyes, a look of disgust on Ixion's face.

While the thin man's face openly showed disgust, his gray-blue eyes were empty by comparison. His raven hair, as always, was cut just short enough so as not to need fussing with and stayed off his forehead. The shape and length(barely long enough to avoid being called stubble) in which he mantains his mustache, goatee, and partial beard makes his cheeks look even more hollow than they actually are.

Ixion's attire is dark, lots of black and dark brown. Black leather breeches and boots below a dark brown, billowy shirt. Between the laces at his neck you can just make out the silvery links of chainmail. If he were out in the wilds, the dark brown hooded cape draped about his shoulders looks like it would provide decent protection against both wind and rain.

"I thank you for making this brief. We've both been on the road for a long time, so it would seem, and that kind of constant harsh environment can, in turn, make those traveling within it equally harsh.
"Your proposal is... intriguing and we should talk more of it in the morning when we are rested and refreshed." Ixion placed special stress on the last word, hinting not too subtly that his position this joint venture would be strongly influenced by the dwarf's appearance and smell the following morning.

Would it be possible to have, probably on the profile page, a list of the threads that a person is currently subscribed to?

I don't know if there's a limit to the number of subscriptions you can have at one time, but this could also be a possible solution for Gruggs wanting a list of games even if members that can post options aren't used. Subscribe to the relevant threads and there's the list.

If this has already been brought up I willingly submit to a smiting for not doing research before posting.

"Discuss... with me?" Ixion couldn't help but chuckle as he remebered how twitchy and aggitated the dwarf had seemed moments ago.
"Alright. A moments rest seems to have done you well. You appeared rather.... uncomfortable last I saw you. Although you seem quite serious now. Very, uh, Dwarf of you." Ixion tied, somewhat unsuccessfully to keep a straight face for his last comments. It's fairly easy to tell he's well past his first glass of wine.

The man idly nibbles at one of his remaining pork ribs while listening to the bearded one's proposition.

Ixion saunters into the mead hall and up to the bar, taking in his surroundings and starting mental notes on the people in the room... oblivious teenagers, old drunks, musicians that are either very accomplished bards or minor sorcerers employing more magic than skill, you never can tell with elves, and one very out of place dwarf.

If he were any more twitchy you'd think he'd had a bad fix.

He let his gaze linger on one of the barmaids a moment before addressing the bartender. "Well met. I need a glass of wine and something to eat, what do you have?"

Ixion turned around, leaning up against the bar and resting his elbows on the counter. He continued eying the barmaid for a moment before the dwarf's movement caught his attention. Maybe not a bad one, just too long since the last one, he thought as he watched dwarf hustle upstairs.

"Kebabs will be fine, thank you." Ixion said, shifting his focus back to the barkeep. "...On second thought, make it the pork ribs and have her deliver the wine." he added, indicating the maid he'd had his eye on.

The man pushed off the counter and half swaggered half danced over to a near-by table. Spinning just as he neared his destination, Ixion dropped into a chair, leaned back, and brought one foot to rest atop the table in one fluid motion.

One hand rested comfortably in his lap while the other began tapping in time with the music on the leg of his chair. Ixion crossed his foot over the one already propped on the table and waited patiently for his order.

Ixion makes a quick inspection of the room as he heads for the bed.
"This'll do."
The weary man slides his pack from his shoulders and drops it onto the mattress, then begins removing his rapier's scabbard from his waist. Moments later, with his weapon lying next to his backpack, Ixion turns his attention to the Housekeeper.
"This'll do nicely. No need to have them bring up the tub, not yet anyway. I'm much too hungry right now. I'll see what I feel like after getting a bite or two to eat. Thank you."

Following the Housekeeper out of the room, the man pauses to check the security of the door's lock.
"Ma'am," he calls over his shoulder, "I do value my privacy. While I understand you may like to perform some regular cleaning of the rooms, while I'm renting Number 3, here..." he taps the plaque on the door and turns, finally heading downstairs,
(Sleight of Hand to get a gold piece out of my pocket, using the tapping as a distraction)

"I don't ever want to find that those boys have gone into my room without my prior knowledge."
He continues, flashing a grin, "I know how curious young boys can get and there are some things that are best left alone. You understand."
(Sleight of Hand to produce the coin from "nowhere")

Holding the coin out for the old lady. "And sorry for the inconvenience, I'll try to compensate."

SODGROVE

A tall, thin man enters the Broken Tankard as the cheering dies down inside the main hall. Pulling back his hood, he reveals jet black hair, piercing gray eyes, and a slightly pale complexion.

He waves the servant boys off as they approach, "Not tonight boys, I'll tend to my own gear." And looking to the Housekeeper he adds, "...If that's acceptable. I know some establishments have rules about what can and what cannot be taken into the drinking hall. In either case, I would like a room for the night."

Ixion was tired. Normally he'd lavish the chance to find the loophole in the posted rules, the one thing they didn't think of, and point it out with a smirk on his face. But it had been a very long trek from East Rose, and he'd run out of provisions a day and a half ago. Better to just hand her the way out of this before it even starts, he thought.

"Yes, I think I'd prefer to see my room first and get settled before joining the merriment."
