Topic: Tales from the Smuggler's Moon
Subject: Silver Screen - Eyes in the Alleys, Spies in the Streets

As the Brothers Hawkes vacated the scene of their drunken brawl, with their newest companion in tow, none noticed the pair of eyes watching them. Nor could they have, for as they proceeded away, and the streets before the ravaged tavern began to swell with drunken fools and guardsmen, the small form of the man who watched them slinked out of sight and back down around a corner to a grimy, nearly deserted alleyway. Braydyn Shortcloak, it seemed, had acquired some means of protection.

Yet despite these new found developments he smiled, not a happy smile, but one that was certainly noteworthy. Yes, this was smile few enjoyed seeing upon his face, but then it was usually linked to someone's suffering. Today it was filled with the satisfaction that the peon who had allowed things to progress this far had been unable to blink before he'd found him. Just ahead of him, within this largely abandoned alleyway stood two halflings garbbed in filthy clothes, portraying an image more of urchin, human children than agents of the Halfling Benevolent Association. Above them, suspended upside-down by a rope was a third halfling, though he was dressed much better, what with having payed Braydyn Shortcloak a visit in the Seacat's Folly just that morning.

"You two, proceed to alert the others. I want tabs kept on Shortcloak's whereabouts. Thanks to Tucker here," He vaguely gestured to the suspended fellow "the weasely merchant seems to think he can skip out on paying off his dues. In the company of outsiders no less."

When the pair still hadn't left his tone darkened. "Get Moving!"
The pair scrambled out of the alley.

Alone and helpless Tucker began to whimper.
"Please Arv, It's not my fault. I, I followed orders... honest!"

Arv Hookridge merely shook his head, a chuckle slipping through his grin as he produced brass knuckles from within his coat.

"Tucker, Tucker, Tucker. You don't get it, do you? Orm Redleaf is very displeased with how you handled things."

Without warning he struck the suspended halfling in the jaw.

"Rather than secure Shortcloak's wares as HBA property, you allowed him to travel across Freeport with them, losing a fair amount in the street, and the remainder to pirates who never meant to pay."

This time a backhand caught Tucker across the face, bloodying his nose. "Shortcloak will be taken care of, not to worry. But as it stands, you've cost us both the wares and the gold."

A quick flourish of his hand, and a dagger flew from Arv's sleeve to cut the rope, dropping Tucker to the cobblestones.

"Be thankful you're dealing with me and not Trask; if you want to redeem yourself in Redleaf's graces, I suggest you begin tracking down Shortcloak."

Stashing his brass knuckles back in his coat, Arv Hookridge stepped over the whimpering form of Tucker and proceeded down the alley, a sick smile still on his face. He loved his job.

Ahem. It can be interesting to look at our speech, what with the varying races, backgrounds, and accents. There's a drastic difference between Khash's speech, Braydyn's veiled attempt at sea-speak, and the villian(s) I'll be playing later.

and thank you Hammer, glad we are able to please.

aha,Revlan's attention had been shifting like crazy in that room (the ceiling, the sacks, the statues, Lana).

Indeed!

Or I may turn into the poor Cleric's nightmare of constant injuries (especially being the fighter).

Also, in case it was unclear, the stance Revlan is taking is meant to portray 'fighting defensivly', albeit he does not plan to stop shooting his face off.

Heheheh, being trouble is fun.

with shrubs and briars to hide the trap; there are only 5 javelins, but it is enough to do a little damage.

when I went back to check I realized rock to sand would not work here; had to improvise with what was available.

almost like I'm pushing my luck with Revlan. But, tis the character. I think you'll have to scare the recklessness out of him.

Also, I have to admit I love Shining Orb's response to the update. It's the thrill of the game!

...and hey, who said Revlan wasn't half-crazy? A short attention span can lead to all kinds of interesting things.

Subject: TORAAD, On the Spot Thinking

Toraad had finished sharpening his javelins and had moved on to ensuring the blades of his hand axes were sharp when the resounding screeches of the Goblins reached his position.

Briefly sharing an unknowing glance with Sir Cal, who had been making his own preparations, Toraad witnessed a portion of the greenskin horde headed their way.

The Dwarven Cleric cursed under his breath as he took in the terrain once again; what he wouldn't give to be in a stone tunnel, a funnel that forced the goblins to face well prepared Dwarven defences. Warping the Goblins' footing as stone turned to sand, and watching them trample over each other in an effort to attack; but that was neither here nor now. And there was no time for true preperations.

Quick thinking would have to do. Moving between two trees Toraad dragged his axes across the ground to open up the soil, then pointed to his Javelins for the Knight to help.

"Secure 'dem in da groun as best ye can." The Cleric-merc was improvising at this point, spinning to detach shrubs and briars from their roots to toss over the Knights handiwork; a small obstacle, one goblins would likely go through rather then around, especially when they were charging.

Patting the Knight on the shoulder and indicating to the tree to the left, Toraad gave a final word before securing his own position, dropping his axes and drawing his warhammer.

"Seems our friends 'ave stirred dem up. May ye God grant ye protection lad."

With a final look out towards the oncoming horde, Toraad began chanting the words of a Shield of Faith spell, gripping his warhammer hard with anticipation.

Topic: Once in a Lifetime
Subject: REVLAN, Goading 101

Revlan had quickly darted down the tunnels as they shifted left and right, but had, to his frustration, lost track of the four marks he'd tailed. The sound of his companions rushing behind him only motivated him to keep searching ahead.

Following the tunnels led him into a large cavern illuminated by an odd blue sparkling alone the ceiling. Shiny rocks perhaps? Maybe some sort of planty thing that grows underground?

Walking deeper into the room Revlan spotted the sack and stopped caring about the light source. However the men he had chased weren't there.

Then he noticed the statues.

While Revlan had to admit that the Sigie looking statue was pretty, the shape and proportions held no appeal in his eyes. The second statue however, which appeared to be Syl, was far more to Revlan's taste, though not through merit of the beauty of the subject. No, it was in the Sylvari statue that he recognized similar features, in terms of curvature and shape, to his dearest Lana back home. Although certainly she wasn't 'his'. Well, not yet. He just needed to impress her. Still, looking at the statue he couldn't help but try to envision Lana's figure.

A stupid grin found its way across Revlan's face despite the matter at hand, that is until the sound of footfalls brought forth some of his companions. The Cidal half-turned, pointing towards the sacks, and the statues. The grin was still on his face, and he couldn't help it.

Before anyone could speak however, 4 Wererats emerged from behind the statues, daring them to come closer, the sound of many squeaks echoing from across the room.

Revlan scrunched his nose in disgust at the sight of the thieving creatures. At least he was fairly certain that they were the men he followed. Maybe they ate the men? It didn't matter.

He started to move, pivoting to face his foes and waving his hands about to distract them.

"I take it you fur-faced freaks don't feel like talking" His hand grabbed his sword-hilt amongst the motion. "Hmmph, and here I tailed you to have some fun" Revlan had his longsword drawn by the end of his statement, and rose his buckler.

Remembering that night with the wolves, Revlan realized it would be best to let them come to him.

Eadric is fresh off a farm. He knows very little of the ways of the Khords, and therefore assumed (initally) that Gamard was merely a brave knight. Then you channeled divine energy.

Boom. Farm-boy's mind was blown.

... aha, well you get the idea. He's nervous and drawing quick conclusions.

Topic: Trail of the Rokash
Subject: Simple Roots

The warm stew and the days made bread of The Broken Rock Inn were all that Eadric could ask for upon entering Vala'Lia. In fact they were all he had truly desired in every town and hamlet he had passed through since his departure of Wilwarin some time before; a home-cooked meal. Indeed the young lad of eighteen summers missed home more than anything and still could not believe where he was, no matter how many times he thumbed the visitor's coin that hung around his neck or recalled the magnificent sight of the Standing Stones and the Winding Way; Drannon was a far trip from home.

Indeed this was the first time Eadric had left home, left the land of Ertain, and more specifically the small portion of it between Motley lake and the Moss River. He'd only ever seen farmland, vineyards and orchards before this journey; cites and castles had been nothing but fantasies, dreams brought by the tales of the passing merchant or the occasional vagabond bard. But now, by chance of his newly granted status, the world of his fantasies was being thrust upon him, and Eadric wasn't sure he'd be able to keep up.

His journey to this place in the Northern portion of Drannon had been a cascade of circumstances. It all began with a trade wagon bound for Targos with a bounty of fruits, wines, and wools. Unexpectedly the trip extended itself all the way to the captivating streets of Ethryn, and even more suddenly from the capital to the city of Dergeroth in preparation for a trading expedition into Drannon for a pair of wealthy merchant partners.

"A hero does these things Eadric. He answers the requests of the people, no matter how pompous."

Eadric let out a brief sigh as he sipped some of the wine he'd been served with his meal, then looked at it distastefully. Not but an hour before he had had to haul his best friend Kal up to the room they shared, the fool besotted with a stomach full of ale. It was Kal who had convinced him to agree to this portion of the journey. And the time before that. And before that when they left the Fenwin brothers to return to Wilwarin alone with the Targos wagon. It was almost overwhelming.

Sometimes Eadric wished he'd never been given the title of Hero of Wilwarin, but never did he regret the actions that had granted it to him. It was just the sudden emphasis on his abilities and responsibilities made his head spin. Eadric just hoped he could live up the expectations.

He had finished his bowl of stew and was about to request seconds from the barmaid when a scream resounded through the common-room. Instinctively Eadric stood, hand on sword hilt and alert for danger. He turned to see the barmaid, and then the ragged man who had stumbled in.

“Help me please!” he cried and collapsed to the floor.

Suddenly the townsfolk were at his aid finding out his distress, a missing daughter. Almost as sudden, the barkeep was turning to the travellers within the room to request for help, the strange word Rokash echoing among the mummers of the crowd. Was it a person? A place?

Eadric had little time to think before a one-eyed Khord - he knew few Khords in his brief travels, and fewer before - waltzed across the room and declared himself a Knight, AND a successful kidnapped child saviour who would rise to the challenge without thought. Eadric suddenly felt very small in the Knight's presence, the irony of which did nothing to comfort him. A young woman he hadn't noticed also stepped forward and volunteered to help, which was still more than Eadric's nerves would allow.

The Khord then requested an explanation of 'Rokash', which turned out to be some sort of aberration unheard of in the tales of Eadric's youth. There was a pause as the Knight seemed to mull over the barkeep's words, before approaching the raggad man, Tal and healing his wounds; more than just a Knight, but a Cleric too!

It was then the Gamard the Cleric-Knight, Saviour of Stolen Children had once again called for help.

"A hero does these things Eadric"

Kal's words rang through Eadric's head and he swallowed hard to attempt to dismiss his nerves. He looked at his armour and reached for his spear, both gifts from his mentor for his heroic deed. He hoped he was strong enough to answer this call, to prove himself deserving of his home's praises.

Beating the butt end of his spear upon the common-room floor, the occupants of the room turned to face him.

"I...." He swallowed hard again, and remembered the tales of his youth, his dreams and heroes. "I cannot stand idly by while a child is in danger. My spear is at your side."

Kal would be grinning ear to ear and laughing about this; he loved forcing Eadric into situations regarding his title, and Eadric had managed it on his own this time.

While Eadric may not have been certain that he was truly ready for this, he was certain that Kal was returning with the merchants in the morning, even if he had to knock the fool unconscious and pay them to take him as cargo.
