Illness struck. Honestly I expected to be killed, and fully accepted that it would occur in an amusing manner (drowning in muck or some such). I shall endeavor to have a post up in the morning, since I am now regaining the ability to focus on a screen.

If I do not make this self-set deadline, or if the mood takes you, I encourage you to take action against Steam's idleness.

It is only fair, after all idleness is inefficient.

Thought I'd point out that I have a spear. It is no lance, but I'm a peasant boy so

Note I detailed gripping it tight; spears arent exactly a sheathed weapon, so I'm already holding it/equiped.

Scoundrels and their stealing and such. Although, I don't think anyone would part with that coin (although it was never confirmed that they have them). Those are pricy; if they don't have them, then as outsiders they are further breaking the law, which means that legally we'd be doing an even better service (maybe) to Drannon, despite our own origins.

Well now, after an extended leave of illness I seem to have finally beaten the bug back down to wheresoever it reared its vile head.

Hopefully this means I can get all my posts up within the next few days. They are much overdo.

I apologize for the unexpected leave, especially to my GM's, and shall now begin to catch up.

Although, and don't take it personal, I think I may start with Paranoia... if I haven't ended up dead by now.

Whole household was ill and I was actively aiding them (cooking, fetching meds, etc.).

Unfortuneately, now I have it.

I've a fair amount plotted out here, so once my focus returns I'll get to work.

Hope you all are well,

Topic: Trail of the Rokash
Subject: Second....

Silence. Silence and scenery. That was all that was shared by the group that now sought the trail of the Rokash, and the scenery that had mystified Eadric on his journey here did nothing to comfort him from the silent tensions that existed between his travelling companions. It was an odd feeling, the silent discomfort he felt, and it mixed the nagging thought that they should be planning some sort of action. But Eadric didn't know what to prepare for, and didn't want to bring it up at risk of causing an arument between the Khord and the young woman that had spoken her mind.

After about an hour they approached a wagon, presumably the one Tal had left behind in search of his daughter. There were several men rummaging through it, though from a quick look it seemed Tal's horses were gone. The men saw the approaching group and one called out, “Hold there! We found this first so this here is ours.” They all seemed to grip weapons nervously.

Before Eadric even had time to think the man who rode beside him spoke up. “You may have found it, but it was never lost. This is sole possessions of a man who’s daughter was stolen by the Rokash. We have come looking for clues to aid us in our hunt for the girl. I would hope that the men of Drannon would remember their honor and not steal from the unfortunate.” Placing his hand on his sword he continued, “ In the name of the Emperor stand aside and let look for clues.”

No hesitation, just a cold determination to keep going. His companion certainly seemed to keep his cool. Gripping his spear tight, a thought occured to Eadric as he listened to the exchannge. Were these indeed men of Drannon? He tried to recall what little the merchants had explained of citizenship and its associated rights, all based upon possession of a coin. He tried to focus upon the appearence of the men and spot the item.

Eadric's conscience played a horrible dance in his head, he found the actions of these men shameful and wanted to do something about it, but at the same time there was a innocent girl lost to some beast. Unfortunately time was not something they could afford.

Topic: A Question of Game Mechanics
Subject: Depends on situation

I've merely quoted the books.

Ultimately it comes down to DM ruling, but it should, I think, represent the situation.

In my opinion, allowing this best helps a mage character, although the way it is written allows rouges to take advantage. So long as said rouge is okay with being a walking beacon for anyone with detect magic...

However it also depends on the nature of magic in the campagin, the interpretation of a cloak as either 'garment' or 'armour', etc.

Hope I'm being helpful.

Note: I normally make such items rare, thereby avioding this scenario.
Plus cloaks allow me something to use against my players... they dont trust them anymore

According to page 148 of the AD&D 23 DMG:

"The magical properties of a ring of protection are cumulative with all other magical items of protection except as follows:

1.The ring does not improve Armor Class if magical armor is worn, although it does add to saving throw die rolls.

2. Multiple rings of protection operating on the same person, or in the same area, do not combine protection. Only one such ring - the strongest- functions, so a pair of protection rings +2 provide only +2 protection."

From page 164 of the AD&D 2e DMG, regarding the Cloak of Protection:

"The device can be combined with other items or worn with leather armor. It cannot function in conjunction with any sort of magical armour, normal armour not made of leather, or with a sheild of any sort."

So in the short of it, where the cloak is not considered armor, the ring and cloak stack. However, do note the armor may not be magical or non-leather.

Happy to be of service.

Let see here.

A very fine 11 for Danamar,
An equal, though not as graceful 11 for Toraad
And a close 9 for Sir Cal

going 50-50 on the spike trap, and attributing Orion's handywork to his master

hmm... we'll all have to try harder next time

the wagon is there sure, but the horses are gone. I doubt the men plan on carrying the wagon anywhere themselves (thus the looting).

Eadric will very much be opposed to leaving the men to loot the wagon; this is Tal's livlihood at stake. He would also distrust them with returning the wagon, as per their original intent.

Though that bears the question, if not them then who?

Additionally, if their idea of fortune seeking is thoughtless looting, who is to say they would be trustworthy companions, regardless of the cause.

Bottom line, Eadric is very distrustful of their motivations.

Topic: Trail of the Rokash
Subject: Simple Preparations

No sooner had Eadric pledged his help than Gamard had returned to his display. And also as soon, another women stepped forward, but this time to challenge the Khord's plans. Eadric watched the exchange, trying to keep up but remaining speechless.

There was truth to both sides of the argument, he was sure. Stories of unprepared adventurers often ended in disaster - except for the cases of extremely lucky or blessed individuals. In turn, the young woman was also correct in that there was no time to wait if they planned to save the child; Eadric could only imagine what she was going through, if she still lived - no, she had to, they had to try and save her. The argument was indeed troubling, and in the end it seemed the Khord 'won', but Eadric was doubtful that a potential companion storming off in anger and a child still in danger was any real 'victory'.

Besides that another thought nagged at the young farm-boy's mind. The Khord was very intent on first acquiring resources the townsfolk could 'spare', and then on receiving a reward when they returned. During his travels within Drannon he had tried to understand their culture but often got stuck contemplating the coins that marked citizenship. He had learned that those without Citizenship often could not even attempt to purchase one, the cost far higher than the income of a simple farmer or labourer. Even if these folks around them were merchants, it didn't feel right. They made enough to survive; it wasn't right to ask for more than hospitality of these people.

When the Khord had returned to his drinking and the townspeople had all but dispersed, Eadric made a simple request of the Bartender.

"If you could spare some parchment, and the means to write, I would like to send word to my father."
(provided a positive response)
Nodding in appreciation, Eadric placed his last three gold coins on the counter. "My thanks, but I have one other request. My companion needs to be with our caravan by noonday. If you could ensure he is fed and on his way in my absence, I would be most grateful; he gets a tad forgetful after indulging in fine ales."

Taking the supplies, with another thanks to the bartender, Eadric moved back to his table in the inn. He took one sheet to try explain the situation to Kal, though knowing the fool would likely be offended that he was not coming along. Then he began the much harder task of writing to his father, explaining the situation, why he was delayed again, and trying (despite the desire) not to blame Kal for his actions. His path was his to define. His mentor had said that, and Eadric intended to follow the path of a hero to the people.

After writing the letters, Eadric returned the leftover parchment and writing supplies to the bar. He then returned to his room to get some rest, certain he had not drank enough to compromise his awakening; a benefit of a life on the farm was the ability to awaken, almost instinctively, with the rising of the sun. Come morning he would give the letters to the bartender to give to Kal and begin preparations for the journey. However, rest would likely be fleeting; there was a young girl to save!

Two-Handed (warhammers)
Heavy Armour
Restoration (potions eat inventory)

That is all an Orc needs.

Didn't bother with crafting, as a gameplay choice.
ALL equipment was earned through dungeon delving.
Main threats were mages, thus the restoration.
Close the gap, they crumble.

Heheheh, and beheading via warhammer has a dark amusment to it. Though admittedly the 'physics' behind it are...interesting.
Then again, I once swung at a mammoth just to watch it soar ~diagonally upward , reach an arch of sorts, and plummet immediately to the base of the adjacent mountain/hill.
