Which is two weeks late....

...But a month's cushion sounds like a great idea.

I'd love to see Loaded Dice up and rolling again (can't wait really, but patience is a virtue I need to practice for the paladin I'm drafting) and, hopefully the wait will allow for more regular updates

I threw up an update for Steam this afternoon. However, the recruitment popped up after.

Should I take this as getting the axe?

Understandable of course, what with my absence.

Let me know.

Nasty thing that.
Still dealing with the stubborn "you're not allowed to breath normally" part

I have some serious catching up to do I think; provided no DM took extreme anti-T_O measures

Saddest part I think is I that I missed my own 1-year mark at the Inn. Err... I mean... that I stalled Paranoia.... yes, that is it.... heheh... heheh...

I formally apologize to the crew, Poor ol' Khash got lost on 'is way back. I aim to correct that.

Steam stared at his singed hand as the sound of the Jackobot interfacing with the controls echoed down the corridor.

He had not seen the event coming, but had the feeling he should have. Somewhere between leaving the muck infested SWR sector and arriving at this door he had allowed himself to grow absent-minded; Friend Computer was obviously not impressed with this and decided he needed to 'wake up' from his walking daydream.

Attempting to close his hand caused a significant jolt of pain to run up his arm, but it was nothing he could not handle. Steam would endure any hardship and any punishment in the name of Friend Computer, and in the protection of every citizen.

The door slid open to reveal a parking garage, and the small Jackobot lead them to their destination. A modified transbot rigged to allow hovering (via factory fans) stood before them. Examining the fans from this distance, Steam thought they could use adjustment, as they were not originally ment for this purpose. But then, perhaps Friend Computer was allowing them to test a new prototype!

As they approached the transbot introduced itself, allowed them to board, and requested a pilot be identified. Without hesitation, Artie turned to Steam and told him to get to work, after all he was the acting equipment officer.

Moving towards the Hoverbot's controls, Steam was filled with a mixture of gleeful excitment, and anxious nerves.

"Greetings Alpha-19.87b Friendliness Hoverbot, I am Steam-R-LLR. I will be the acting pilot for this journey." Turning to his companions Steam noticed there were not any seats, but Steam was sure they would think of something. "Prepare to move out."

Friend Computer was generous in his honors this day; Steam had never gotten to fly a Hoverbot before....

Unbeknownst to Arv Hookridge, there was in fact a singular member of the Halfling Benevolent Association watching the crew of the Smuggler's Moon conduct their business. Despite the beating he had suffered for his 'failings', Tucker had managed drag himself to his feet. Now, hidden just a few yards from his target, a cold sweat had overtaken the young thief, his fear of being found out equal to his fear of returning empty handed.

It had not been hard finding them, although it was moreso a fluke than anything else. Indeed, Tucker would have missed them altogether in his ragged haste if not for the two bumbling half-wits who bailed on their duty due to the creepy, dark-skinned man who now stood with Shortcloak and his associates. The battered thief did have to admit though, the foreboding stature of the man, paired with the odd, foul-mouthed creature on his shoulder was unsettling. But that man didn't matter, nor any of the other non-halflings; this was an internal matter of the HBA, and Tucker did not want to pay the price.

As the dealings proceeded Tucker's mind struggled to stay alert. His body ached as remaining concealed and motionless took its toll, but he could not risk shifting too much, or breathing too loudly lest he be found out. Shortcloak in particular caused him the most panic, the indebted merchant was growing inpatient, and paranoid as the group stood in the alleyway, constantly surveying the alley for any who approached. Finally, Shortcloak's gaze had settled upon Tucker's hiding spot sending the thief's heart racing; luckily the group seemed to conclude their dealings and Shortcloak was eager enough to leave that he did not mention any suspicions he had of watchers.

Carefully Tucker tailed them from a distance, the towering height of Shortcloak's companions acting as a marker in the winding streets. Unfortunately for Tucker his tall 'flags' separated as they neared the docks, and, figuring Shortcloak would be attempting to get aboard a ship as soon as possible, gave up pursuit of the detouring Half-orc. He was wrong. Once upon the docks, Tucker watched as two men made their way toward a ship, The Smuggler's Moon .

Panic stirred in Tucker; Shortcloak had slipped his grasp, and his life was a good as forfeit if he did not take care of his mistake.

Kepit together Tuck, ye jus gotta kepit together.... maybe 'e'll get 'ere soon

Try as he might though, his self-reassurances were little comfort, as the weight of his desperation settled in. Tucker would just have to wait, hoping to see that Half-orc in the distance, and Shortcloak beside him.

I was planning on charging after you.

Then I remembered Eadric's temperment...

He'll rush to your aid, but will first attempt to shield Liriel. So, in other words, no itial combat for me.

Eadric had held his tongue during the exchange, not wanting to mess up Rodger's negotiation. However the young lad was not sure if it was the fact that the men had directly threatened them with violence twice, or Rodger's terms that had truely sealed the outcome.

Certainly the shifty nature of these travellers, who inserted some unlawful 'Right of Salvage' spoke volumes of their ill-intentions. However, Rodger's demand of the man's citizenship coin, with, considering their quest, no guareentee of return had been highly unreasonable, based on what the merchants had told Eadric; if these men resorted to looting wagons for wealth, the odds of them parting with such a vauable item, if they had one, was highly unlikely. Such an item was likely worth more than the cart and its contents. It was no wonder that the leader refused, but to directly threaten Liriel, who had not spoken a word, was inexcusable.

Despite Eadric's insight into how quickly their diplomacy was dissolving, nothing could have prepared him for Rodger's sudden scream and charge. Near dumbstruck with awe Eadric tried to manuever himself between Liriel and the potentially oncoming arrow, gripping his spear tight.

Within an alley running alongside the Dented helm Arv Hookridge was further annoyed by the incompetence of his men. It seemed that Shortcloak was still nearby, parading about the docks district with the unusual company of a tall seaman and a half-orc. His men had returned to report their progress though the city, but with no information of consequence except that they were stopped in an alley in the shadow of The Doxies Lap.

It was their reason for their quick departure that bothered Arv the most. Letting out an irritated sigh, Hookridge suddenly lashed out, sending one halfling stumbling against the alley wall while staring directly at the other with blue eyes burning with rage.

" I don't care if the man scares you. I do not care if he is as large as the seaman or the half-orc. I do not even care if he has a rabid monkey that does his talking for him." That last part actually bothered Hookridge, but it paid to maintain composure. "What I do care about is that Shortcloak is literally standing, idly, in that alley...." A backhand knocked the young halfling to the ground "And none of you are watching!"

He spat in disgust, looking at the two servants of the HBA, as if they had the mettle to truly make something of themselves. "You consider yourselves a part of the Eyes and Ears of our organization? You're a disgrace. Not only are you wasting my time, but you don't even know their destination!"

"They m'not ser, but I do"

Hookridge wheeled about to see the young halfling girl come racing up the street. "Oh?"

"Oh yes'ser. Me an' Winslow were keepin tabs on 'em a ways afore des twits took o'er. A young missus innercepted 'em lookin ta join crew o' some such. Ov'r 'erd dar Cap'n tell 'er the ship's name too. The Smuggler's Moon, ser."

While her speech lacked refinement, Hookridge was relieved to have someone competent about, yet a thought nagged at him. "Why did you not report back immediately?"

"Well'en Winslow an' I 'sided ta follow da young missus, as we tout she'd ben 'eaded ta da ship. Only, she didn't 'ead twards da docks. Winslow be keeping an eye on 'er, and 'ere I am, ser, Becks, reportin' in."

Hookridge's sick smile returned in full form. "Excellent." He said as his grin widened. Shortcloak was in his grasp now. "Send word, I want agents on the docks scouring for the ship. I want knives, crossbows; anything. No one cuts and runs from the HBA."

Becks nodded and was turning to leave when Hookridge said a final remark. "Oh, and do keep eyes on the girl. She may prove useful, in one way or another."

After saying a bunch of 'yessers', Becks was on her way again, leaving Hookridge with his two 'associates', who, while having regained their footing had lost none of their fear. Only now their fear was from a much closer source. Wrapping an arm around each of their shoulders, Hookridge walked them to the street. "You see lads, that is the job. You follow. You watch. You listen." He could see the beads of terror rolling done their faces as fear prevented their speech. "So, if you are lucky, you will find your creepy gentleman, and do your job. Information is key." He then shoved them out of the alley.

Where one of our group regularily plays a necromancer, and the rest of us enjoy traps, and/or unsuspecting events, this conversation has arisen very often.

In fact I think we had one night where every other 'break' in the game (ex. pizza arrival, someone went to the washroom, etc.) was spent arguing over what/who was truly dead.

Subject: TORAAD, Regaining Humor

A grim smile crossed the Dwarven Cleric's face as he heard the satisfying gasp of shock emitted by the terrified goblin, though it was quickly drowned out by many more. As the gasps faded away and the snapping of brambles and bones resounded from the Goblins charging over their fallen companions, Toraad knew it was time to strike.

Leaping into action, the Dwarven mercenary blind-sided the first goblin across the face with his warhammer, sending the creature stumbling backwards before following through with a bone-shattering blow to the chest. No sooner had it been dispatched than two more greenskins trampled over it's crumpled form. Buffeting one aside with his buckler he brought his hammer to bare down upon the other, knocking the life from it. Toraad continued in this manner, bringing about the demise of more of his lifelong enemies, before making the realization that they were making no effort to fight back; indeed, the goblins were fleeing in pure desperation.

Indeed, upon this realization the Dwarven Cleric stopped his assaut; there was no honor in this fight, and even Steel could respect that these enemies were not engaging in battle as a true foe should. In his pause, the terrified goblins buffeted him aside, and Toraad soon found himself back next to his tree, watching and waiting for the wave of green to pass. Though what occurred he would never have expected.

Several of the Goblins that had rushed past them were suddenly slashed to ribbons by some unseen force! As they stood seemingly frozen in amazement, there was a shimmering of colors in the air, as two odd looking Dragons materialized before their eyes, dispatching more goblins.

There was another shimmer of colors, as the Dragons shape shifted into the forms of Drog Kargar on their left and Seg Kargar to their far right side! Drog and Seg glared at their former companions momentarily, before shape shifting back into their Halfling Dragon forms. Toraad could only stare in shock; it seemed the wee ones needed no saving.

The Halfling Dragons then took off from the area, seizing and slaying additional goblins in their wake, until the cries of terror became but a distant din. The area was safe for now, but what of their companions.

An unknown amount of time past, but finally Cal spoke to Toraad “We need to check on Rex and Danamar and see what has happened to them. We'll come back for your javelins and when we do can you help me get my sword unstuck” As he pointed to the tree with a whimsical smile.

Toraad shook off his amazement and looked first to the trampled remnants of his Javelins, and the goblins that were pinned together about them. The Dwarf arched an eyebrow at the strange knight before letting out his first laugh in many days. "They be sticks lad" he chuckled as he collected his axes and pack "but, aye, we'd bes see 'bout the others."

Before they began the trek towards the clearing, Toraad couldn't help himself and gave a joking 'attempt' at freeing Cal's sword.

"Mayhaps noble Rextugenous will 'ave a tale 'o 'bout Knights pullin swords from trees"

Subject: Not drowningin the muck....

Steam dredged through the muck without complaint. It was a test to ensure the team had a composure capable of fighting off the Computer's enemies, the foolish traitors, the dirty communists, and the vile mutants; especially the vile mutants. If the troubleshooters couldn't handle themselves in the traitors natural environment, squalor and filth, then how could they expect the Computer to trust them? Indeed, this mission was an ingenious test of dedication before the actions against the enemies could even begin!

However, he found it interesting that the Hygiene Officer was not voicing plans for the removal of the muck, or insisting upon immediate cleanliness operations upon departure from this sector. Indeed, aside for the general alert that he had found the sector, Slipp had become reserved, much unlike his original personality. Similarly Artie's personality had shifted since being 'reminded' of his duties by Friend Computer. Both would warrant future watching.

Eventually, upon reaching the end of the corridor, a monitor arose from the muck and relayed a message from Friend Computer, although it seemed to either echo or skip in some horrid fashion. Steam tried to listen intently, but found it made his head spin worse than listening to Blowz roughly when Friend Computer asked them if something would be 'funfunfun'.

There was something about a robot, 'leading' them to equipment, and RND. That should mean they would receive their load out soon. There was something about another citizen, and to 'scort' him to ...something, a facility maybe?.... in Sector DDD, or perhaps it was Sector D. The echo was painful, but he started to sort it out in his mind.

"Understood, I have no questions." Artie murmurred, rubbing at his back while still crouched in the uncomfortable position, "Standing by for the bot's arrival, unless anyone else has questions."

It seemed Artie was prepared to proceed, but Steam also noticed he encouraged the squad to ask questions, despite having none of his own. Steam was certain that the first portion regarded equipment, and that it was straight forward. Provided Artie did indeed understand Friend Computer's further instructions, the implications that any would need to ask questions indicated he either did not understand everything, or he in fact did and was setting up a clever ploy. To question the logic and reasoning of Friend Computer was treason. To question regarding directions was to be inefficient in understanding the directions, and that could also lead to treason.

Understanding Artie's potential motives, Steam would not fall for this ploy; he had a rudimentary idea of the mission anyway. "Acknowledged Friend Computer. Ready to proceed."
