Further investagation of a cavern sounds good; chance to find loot, or answers.

Going back to the talk of the blast spell, my lay on hands heals exactly 2 hp, so we could save the cure light wounds for something that needs more attention.

As per the torches, Ody has made a good point regarding the debris and our use of it, and Angelic's in-game post regarding infravision provides us with a further notion of what our options are.

Adventure Ho!

Day Six
Saturday
Marrero 13, 101awd

Jaufre was confused by Tohmas' address. He couldn't recall ever hearing about the Wimachtendienk, nor of a divine healing rain dance; a matter which left him feeling off-put considering his efforts to find ways to heal his sister. As the shaman continued, Jaufre could see the sincerity in the man's eyes in the desire to heal is new-found companions, a trait the paladin could respect, but he found the sudden notion of mixing his blood into this ritual unsettling.

As such, when Tohmas came about to examine his wound Jaufre instinctively recoiled before thinking better of it. A moment passed where the shaman looked up from the wound to face him and Jaufre felt ashamed. He then nodded and let the shaman continue. When he had finished, Jaufre watched Tohmas move on to the next adventurer, though uneasiness still nagged at him.

It wasn't that he did not trust the man, he had no reason not to, and furthermore Crow trusted him. It was more so that Jaufre was still recovering from his shaken faith , and for Tohmas to so calmly ask for such a blessing from his was something to admire... and envy. It was the envy that made him feel ill. Perhaps this journey would be more than he thought it; a chance to help his sister, and himself.

Silently he closed his eyes and prayed to Cedrus, asking for forgiveness and for the Lord of Light's continued watch over his sister.

" Are you going to join?"

Jaufre had lost himself in internal prayer, and looked to Areldor when he spoke up, the illusionist throwing him a quizzical expression. Then he realized that Tohmas had already continued on with the ritual.

"I..." He hesitated and hated himself for it, finding himself almost refusing the aid. He'd not be in any condition to help anyone if he didn't at least try. Shaking his head to clear the thoughts from his mind Jaufre continued "...Yes... yes, I think I shall."

He sheathed his sword and offered his shield to Areldor to hold for him, to ease his movement. Each step shifted the open wound in his side, sending ripples of pain through him. Though as the ceremony progressed he felt relief, and by the end the pain was gone entirely.

The ritual complete however, Jaufre could only muster up a simple 'thank you' to Tohmas, as he still felt out of sorts. As he moved to regain his shield from Areldor, Jaufre looked back over his shoulder with a pang of guilt; he should have been more respectful than that to someone so selfless. He'd make it up to the man later.

Don't sweat it Hammer.

If it is okay with you I'd like to get my previously mentioned post up first (tonight at the latest I promise), now that festivities regarding Canada day and visting friends/family have died down.

Really sorry for the delay; on my way out the door and off to uni, post is at the top of my to-do list when I return home this afternoon.

Well, I can heal 2 Hp via my Lay on Hands according to the Castles and Crusades Handbook I have. The Cleric has a cure light wounds which does a d8. I think that is all we got.

Oops, I forgot the Druid has GoodBerry, which is 2d4 berries that restore 1 hp each...

So its all in the dice...

Day Six
Saturday
Marrero 13, 101 awd

It took a moment for Jaufre to realize he was no longer under siege; the end of the skeleton pirates occurring as quickly as they had arrived upon the adventurers. At his side stood the illusionist, now covered in bone dust and breathing heavily, and, to Jaufre's relief, without a scratch. Though as much as the paladin had spoken as a lone protectorate against the oncoming horde, he fully realized that he would not be standing here now if not for the quick actions of those who came to his aid against the southern flank.

Rebalancing his weight to relieve some of the pain, Jaufre looked to the man who had his back at more than one point during the fight.

"You have my thanks, friend." Extending his hand to Areldor, Jaufre could not prevent a flash of pain from crossing his face as the cut in his side shifted; something the paladin was quick to try to cover up with a grin. "The battle would surely have been different if not for the aid of such stout-hearted companions."

Surely it would have, and Jaufre would have to remember not to second guess his companions on this journey; the illusionist Areldor and the bard Elyra had clearly proven themselves capable of more than idle banter and entertainment. A quick glimpse about the rubble-battlefield revealed to him that indeed all the treasure seekers still stood, now amidst piles of dust and most in better shape than he; a relief on all accounts.

But despite the momentary relief of a battle ended, and a company intact, Jaufre still felt shaken. When first he called upon Cedrus this day he felt as though his call went unanswered. Though surely as he fought in the name of Cedrus, at the expense of blood, sweat, and fleeting hope, the God had chosen to smile upon him in battle. Still doubts plagued his mind; had he neglected his training-his faith, so much in his pursuit of a cure to his sister's ailment? Or was Guetis right that he lacked in a core sense of hope?

Perhaps events to come could help restore his faith to what it once was, but for now the ache of his fresh wound kept him grounded in the reality that danger lurked about them.

This is grand!

I'm getting rather beat up, but it wouldn't be a good fight without a little blood shed!

By Cedrus' Light we'll beat down these undead abominations.

So long as Jaufre survives this encounter, I've plenty to work with in the aftermath thus far... if not, well.. I've things for that too

I look forward to it!

Though I also just realized Thomas is hurting himself... which is rather concerning considering the circumstances.

Also, I hope my lack of an eye-patch bodes well for my companions; such as draw agro, as it were, from our armourless illusionist.

Ziklag, Areldor is a skeleton wrecking machine!

So far so good, lets see if we can keep it up.

Only really worried about Mylos, although if those eye-patches are a sufficient deterrent we should have time to get to him!

Although somewhat demoralized, Jaufre will continue to guard the southern flank of our eastern assault while we engage the first group of skeletons.

Day Six
Saturday
Marrero 13, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

"Skeleton Pirates!"

His own call of alarm shattered the strange calm of the demolished city as skeletal figures came into view, their numbers uncertain, but the emanating pulse of their unholy presence strong to Jaufre's senses. Something most foul was at work upon the island of Tagea!

In a reflexive motion Jaufre readied his sword and shield, though his former training made him realize they were not the most ideal equipment when faced with such creatures. Cursing his lack of anticipation of the potential dangers of his quest, Jaufre cast a glance over his shoulder to ensure his companions had indeed received his call to arms, all the while trying to count the inbound foes. Many seemed to be descending upon them; they were being boxed in on three sides.

Nervous banter replaced the flirtatious comments that had been consistently shared between the adventurous performers who had been travelling just before him, both seeming concerned about the sudden development.

To his left Jaufre heard similar shock at the threat, which he hoped would fade into resolve; the skeletons were closing ground, their attire and weapons were more discernible, yet also were their numbers. More walking bones of seamen approached from each side than Treasure Seekers present in the ruined city, the odds well against the newly formed companions. If they intended to live, they would need to act fast; but how?

Before he could speak again, a voice came from his left:

"We should take one group on, I say the right. Fight them before the rest hit, but we don’t have much time!"

The quick thinking of the fighter sparked murmurs amongst those still uncertain how to proceed; it seemed a course may be set, but Jaufre was certain it should not be one taken recklessly. The Paladin nodded to Willem before raising his voice:

"Move quickly and together toward their ranks! Those capable weaken their number at range, so our blades be not overwhelmed! I'll watch the approaching ranks and cover the rear;" He swallowed hard, knowing what he must try to do. "By the divine light of Cedrus these twisted forms of men shall be repelled!"

To stand stalwart against such threats was forged into his spirit by his training. With caution and vigilance Jaufre surveyed the approaching ranks as they carried out their plan, a prayer ready on his lips; he was ready to call upon the divine to aid him in the sheltering of his companions.

If we fail to carve a path through, they would collaspe in on us from the sides. Given the terrain fleeing once we engage is worse off than fleeing now, and increases the risk of losing an ally to the skeletal horde....

Amending my post to add in the developments...

We just need to ensure we band together; if we assault any particular flank, I'll likely cover the rear to ensure a chance of turning some foes away, which will leave the main frontal assault to Willhem and Vincent

Subject: What we've been given...

Hammer has described the terrain as rubble; no buildings, no structures, and no indications of a path or street.

We have an unknown quantity of enemies approaching from the East, West, and South. If we seek to flee we're driven north toward the water sound (which, Ody has noted is a concern).

We are more than 1000 yards (estimate from game post page 3) from the ship, so Dagger and his Stout Hearts are too far away (if they are not encountering problems of their own) to provide assitance.

Note:What I am going to propose in my post is something like falling back north (partially not a full out flee) in a regroup effort (as we're seperated). Attempt to diminish the amount of our attackers via the righteous fivine might of Cedrus (turn undead), and deal with the remaining pirates. Additionally via the turning rules, any turned undead that fail to flee and cower (say the terrain prevents their escape) can be assaulted while still afraid so long as the one who commited the turning (ie me) does not attack them.

Althougth we are all inexperienced, I am assuming limited knowledge as a Paladin of Cedrus that Turning the foes would be an appropriate course of action as out-right fleeing seems risky due to terrain. Aka, Skeletons, even of the Pirate variety, will suffer holy justice.

Also note:I would not presume Jaufre is fully aware of the "let-the-allies-handle-the-turned-foes" benefit of Turning, and as can be seen with his equipment (short sword and small wooden shield), he lacks in bone-crunching preparedness.

Further discussion of how we should proceed is appreciated (and looked forward to) as I tidy up the rest of my post.

Subject: Running Late

City of Heristat
Docks
Dawn on Monday
Marrero 8, 101awd

Long, tearful good-byes had delayed Jaufre's departure as the sun sought to initialize the day. That Cedrus smiled upon the dawn of his quest brought some comfort to the Paladin's wounded heart, for he dreaded the thought of leaving; three days had passed as if they were but an instance. Alas, the reality was that he must go, not only to keep his word but to save that which he dreaded leave behind.

He steeled his mind as he hurried to the docks, wishing to lock any doubts away so that he could focus on the matter of hand. Jaufre could not afford to let his passing grief rule rampant with his senses, not with so much at stake.

Hoping his new companions would share his resolve to ensure the journey prosperous, Jaufre rounded the final bend to the docks oblivious to what he would find.

“Jaufre, by the grace of Betula never did I think to see you here among this group”

"Crow...?" It surprised Jaufre to see an old friend amongst the strangers awaiting him at the dock, for it seemed almost a lifetime ago when last they met. He hadn't even realised tat Crow was associated with the expedition. "It has been far too long"

Crow's introduction left little room for modesty. He had not considered the effect his training with the Paladin's of Cedrus would have upon this meeting, for he certainly did not look the part; that too felt like some time ago. Still, the confidence with which Crow made their introductions comforted him; at least he'd have a friend in this endeavour.

Whether he could come to trust the rest of the group would be seen in the journey to come. Similar could be said of the crew, a peculiar lot, though seemingly stout of heart. It would surely be an adventure.

Day Six
Dawn
On Saturday
Marrero 13, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

The journey had been less than a week before they set to land, and Jaufre had been thankful that they had waited out the storms rather than press through them. Despite his own urgency in this quest, the adjustment to life at sea had his stomach in knots. As such he proved a quiet travel companion, for fear of more than words leaving his mouth.

When at last the adventurers had reached their first destination, Jaufre was initally happy to have firm soil beneath his boots, yet the sight before them took him aback. A city in ruins, for what appeared to have been a considerable time already; and yet no word had reached the mainland mere days away. Something was surely amiss. Taking a few moments to take in the scene in its entirety, Jaufre suddenly realized his companions were beginning to discuss how to proceed, for none had expected this.

"Even if we find nothing we may learn something, let us see to the city"

"Agreed." He spoke suddenly, though with a stern resolve. "Perhaps there are clues to what catastrophe has occurred here"
