Thank you! I should be able to have a post up later this evening, once I figure out what to do with the prisoner. Cannot kill him... he may end up tied up, or thrown into his companions.... or we may try the bartering plan. For which I volunteer to be the loud distraction. You guys like trees, right?

Topic: Another rant from a cat with too much time to think.
Subject: A Few Thoughts.

Loki and Vanadia hit some of my main thoughts.
But allow me to expand a bit further.

The sudden surge of technology and social networking has been able to link people around the globe. While this sounds great, there are significant drawbacks.
For example, Twitter has a character limit within their 'tweets' *shudders* similar to the limitations of text messaging that cause for a lot of fractured, broken, and modified text. Such as 'u' for 'you'.
With such regular practice at diminishing words to try to express meaning to many, often unknown, people the language as a whole begins to fall apart.

As a university student I'm often reduced to short-hand. Short-hand is great for notations and programming, but
notations in themselves are just a reference to the real words. When I go back to my notes I often re-write them to essentially unlock the meaning. The methods used to quickly jot down information are by no means a stable basis for a language.

It is one thing to need to evolve/develop as times change, but to become a shadow of itself is just sad.

...I think I'll leave it there.

I've been tied up with things IRL, but I should be around a bit more now. Ideally, I think we are waiting on Valadrin's scout report before we dive into things.

"More light!", the warden yelled and turned his gaze from the beguiler to the warriors. "Daldren, Irael, sir knight, we need multiple light sources to hopefully slow it down."

Heeding the words of his superior Irael sought a means for further illumination. Still frustrated that he his arcane studies had failed him in such a dire time, he realized that the sunrods in his pack would likely have an effect similar to the orbs he had conjured before. A quick scan of the common room brought his eyes upon the kitchen, and a plan began to formulate.

Turning to the stranger, he nodded, "The windows Sir, we'll worry about getting fi..." he was cut off then by Mendez' shriek. "Quickly we've no time to spare!" The cry of anguish that carried from the floor above had snapped his focus back into place. He looked to Daldren and motioned to the kitchen.

With haste Irael made his way across the common room, hoping the man would follow. Once inside he set to work, sparing only a quick glance to note any other doors or windows. He sought to awaken the great oven at the heart of the inn and harness its flames. Perhaps he could draw the creature's attention as well...

Subject: The show, and etc.

Show was an awesome time. For an opening band we got the Turbo A.C.'s. No Floggin Molly but they set the mood right for a punk concert. The Dropkick Murphys were just amazing, some songs in particular being real great for the crowd to join in with (Johnny I hardly knew ya, for example).

Seems there has been increased trouble? *looks at 'Enough'* I hope that everything can be resolved and that all the innmates can return to being happy.

Just dropping a line to say I'm alive and well (^_^ I survived the show and whatnot). Quite busy though, so I've gotta run.

Have a good day/night/time all!

Cheers!

Hearing that he had been hired relieved Matrim. It was hard to keep the wool over an insightful man's eyes, but Creek seemed willing to let it go. He had done his job well to not be perceived as a threat.

He nodded in acknowledgement that their business was concluded, and rose to shake hands with Creek. "You will not be disappointed."

Moving across the room he reached the door of the small cabin and a thought flushed into his mind. Perhaps it would be best to leave Creek with some insight. Turning to the scholar as he opened the door he spoke again.

"One question if you will: Many things are hidden, lost within the darkness. Are you certain you want to bring them into the light?"

He did not wait for an answer, but simply turned and left. No doubt Creek's suspicions were rekindled, but it was necessary to keep the man aware of his actions. This almost certainly meant that he would have a tail once he left. Wyrepynn. Let us hope he is not as foolish as perceived.

As per his orders he would not be returning home, but he had some friends and mentors to meet with to discuss certain elements of the trip and pick up some supplies. A series of good-byes, as it were. The first of these contacts was undoubtedly buried among the stacks of the Great Library.

Here is hoping the coming days find you all well.
I'll be in and out over the next couple days, with less frequency than usual.

Have a great bardic event I'm attending this evening (Dropkick Murphys concert). Otherwise I've one co-op assignment left until my mini-summer course is over; I gotta get it done and over with.

Again the best of wishes to you all if I do not encounter you during my brief visits to check for updates. Should be back to norm come Monday.

Cheers!

Subject: maybe it is contagious

heheh. well I'm sticking with my exposure-induced delirium until Bren at least gets some rest.... somewhere... he literally collapsed and was told to 'go to the castle' after arriving from the waste. aha.

Topic: The Last Blade Game
Subject: In a mad world.....

Bren stood to the side within the throne room, taking in the scene. Grandeur tarnished with the taint of the waste, the entire visage of the castle and its interior was a twisted shadow of the tales he once clung to for hope. The 'people' that shared the floor with him were nothing but contorted spectres, arguing amongst themselves and paying him no mind, or even a gaze. All save one.

Upon a seat before them all sat the grim image of this supposed king. He seemed to judge them, appraise them. Perhaps that was a glint at darker motives behind the words he had spoken - of great heroics and the dwindling hopes of humanity. His presence left Bren feeling estranged- truly, what manner of man would cling to a title under such conditions.

Thoughts whirred in Bren's tiring mind, a collection of perceptions and insights that fit haphazardly together. Doubts of their realism returned, as if the entire scene was a show, merely figments of his imagination brought to life by delirium. However, he remembered feeling the stones upon his hands... before he had collapsed... Perhaps then he still laid there, this venture to the castle the movement of his spirit to witness the final moments of these apparitions, as he himself died within their former home. But if that were the case, then the supposed Monarch's gaze would not have set upon him as it had.

After each of the others had spoken, their bickering concluded and silence returned, the 'king' seemed ready to speak further. Whatever he was about to say was lost however, as bitter laughter escaped Bren's coarse lips.

He moved then and walked past each of these figures, his sword still in his hand, bobbing up and down with each step. It was time to test their senses, to see if they could perceive him.

"You spirits and your bickering... know you anything of what you argue? Do you lost souls fail to grasp that each of you is driven by the same means?" He let out a hollow laugh before turning mid-step and addressing the robed woman whom the 'king' had referred to by name. "Survival. It is the only motivation that exists here. Even for one who speaks of such loyalty. " He scowled before releasing a dark chuckle, shaking his head in disbelief and turning to another figment. "Know you even the basics of survival? The carrion bird you hope to sustain yourselves with is riddled with disease." Again he let out a bark of laughter, even more bitter than before. "And to wander the waste is not to be done at random. Take it from a man who has known only its embrace."

Not caring about the reactions of these spectral 'heroes' he spun full-circle to lock gazes with the apparent master of this domain. He could feel himself slipping into the rashness of madness. If this was all in his mind, Bren was going to take control again. Coughing to clear his inflamed throat he spoke again.

"And you oh so-called king. Have you no honour? Do you plan to sit here while others toil for your purposes? What manner of treachery do you command to see the lives of others as only pawns to some means?" He scowled outright, ignoring any objections or words hissed by the others. "If you are truly real acknowledge me, oh King of the Damned, tell this wanderer your 'great plan' of salvation. By my master Asera, may you speak with integrity. I'll not see so many to their graves."

Regardless of his perception, Bren was certain he would receive some response. Though he desperately wished the dizziness would fade. If, in a world such as this, only the mad are sane...Bren was among them.

((OoC: yay delirium.... may need some adjustments))

Matrim merely nodded at the mention of a seat. Noticing the glean in Creek's eye however, he soon found himself sitting upon the armchair. The man was certainly insistent. What is more the man had besieged him with another slew of questions.

Frowning slightly as he composed the phrasing, Matrim had to wait for Creek to leave an opening.

"I am afraid I am not at liberty to discuss who the 'interested party' is good sir. I fear they do not wish to draw avert attention to themselves for showing their interest openly. Thus the lack of identifiable insignias or coat-of-arms.. Surely you have a fine understanding of the game of maneuvers and money played by the nobility. Whenever one acts it always seems as though two aim to counteract the first. As for their investment, you are looking upon it; My services are at your disposal if you will accept them. I ask not for payment, simply food, lodge, and repairs upon the journey."

He paused for a moment, judging Creek's expression at the consistently vague response.

"As for my work, I've plenty of experience in both individual and group emissary work as well as protection details in the regions outlaying Arvale and a bit beyond. I have learned from first-hand experience the value of well kept equipment, and my benefactors have seen it fit to ensure that I embark with so fine a set. Beyond that, rest assured my skills are finely tuned as well; I'd not be a hindrance upon the expedition."

It was obvious that Creek would not like complete secrecy, but Matrim could not afford openness. Not yet. If only he was not so insightful. He seems keen on knowing everything ahead of time. He recalled part of his orders... a prediction of sorts. There are some things better left unknown...

I agree with Pit, those last two panels set up a wonderful mood of 'bad things are nigh'.

Also, Amy's angry expressions were awesome!

EDIT! It seems the comic has been double-posted in the archive. Just something that will need attention later.

One would assume that in Leanderia's state of fight-or-flight response she would not be able to remember the exact route back (relying on scant images in her mind of significant landscape she rushed passed to go back on). We have to remember it was her first time really venturing into the area too. From what we understand the Prisoner has been active in the area, and, as Basyl has hinted, should co-operate if he wants to keep his life.

Otherwise Basyl is all for being a loud distraction to draw the attention of the bandits. The degree to which it is a violent one depends on a quick survey of the camp. He's got the speed to move about (and dodge and mobility to boot). While he keeps them busy someone, say Uryuu could go to free the family. Leanderia is in heavy, noisy, somewhat encumbering armor and should let another act in her place to free them. That being said she will definitely save us from the trouble to come.

Oh? Why hello there and welcome friend.
I hope you will enjoy your stay and find the inn a comfortable second home.

I see you have been properly equipped with towels, so I need not burden you with another. A few other notes while I am here:

>Feel free to ask about anything. We're a friendly bunch here.
>Look over the Pit F(r)iend's guide for Newbies (also in the Comings and Goings section) if you haven't already
>Do not feed the Grugg. It is simply something we'd rather you not risk.

If there is anything I've forgotten I am sure another innmate will be quick to add it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a bard to track down.... he must be here somewhere. See you around.

Basyl had missed all that Render had said up until the remark about fetching his own rope. Scowling he looked up from the prisoner and was about to speak again when Valandril appeared beside him, pulling the dagger from the man's chest

((Elven))”Please ask him the name of the elf.”

Basyl frowned, giving a passing glance to the elf before complying. He wasn't going to ask why... not yet anyway. Render returned shortly after with the rope, to which Basyl chuckled. "Perhaps next time I will get the rope, and you can sit on the brute". With Val and Render still nearby, Basyl took a brief moment to restore his boot dagger to its hidden position.

"I shall follow in the darkness," Basyl nodded to the figure in blue. He still knew little of this man, but he seemed keen to help - help Basyl was not going to pass up.

Swiftly he got to work fastening the man's wrists together. Even in the failing light it was as easy as rigging a sail on a clear day. Within moments he was finished, and set about hauling the man to his feet. Leanderia came over and assisted, but it was obvious she was anxious to leave.

With a last look about the camp Basyl spoke up. "Toss any excess supplies in the tree with mine. We can come back for them. I've a feeling we're going to need all the mobility we can get." With that he turned towards the direction Leanderia had emerged from. Drawing his blade he gripped the prisoner's bonds tightly and pushed him forward.

"Time for you to lead the way. An' no funny business"
